TIP: I just went through this procedure and couldn’t get it to work - it was perplexing, but then I discovered the one little step that wasn’t emphasized enough, and that is when you are putting it back together and installing the little bent clip thingy, you MUST plunge the unit together and THEN insert the clip. If you don’t plunge the unit together and just insert the clip into the hole, it won’t engage into its little track and won’t function.
I have the reverse problem where it doesnt close a all. When you push it down, it springs back up straight away without locking. Any idea if this process will also fix this issue?
Perfect thankyou
Problem sorted, many many thanks
Did this today on my son’s TWO basins. One plug was stuck so I went to the other bathroom to try to see how the plug worked, punched it down and, yes, that one stuck, too! Watched another video which helped but wen I reassembled the mechanism, it was a lottery whether the thing engaged and stayed latched. Got both working more by luck than judgement. Knowing that the pin runs in that groove helped. Incidentally, I lubed the mech with spray-on lithium grease. 👍🏼
Thank you... Just thank you for this video... It saved me from my stupidity.
Just what I was looking for. Great video 😀
Thank you for the detailed video! Still having a an issue.. so I cleaned the gulk off the V shape area for the pin to move freely and added WD40 but sometimes it still gets stuck on the push in part and I have to push extra hard to make it pop out, any fix for that?
Having this exact issue with this exact mechanism now in many sinks in my house, this has given me the information to remove and refurbish the devices, thank you
Companies seem to have changed the brass click clacker or entirely removing it for plastic versions. This was a brilliant clear video and I was very easily able to disable, clean and re assemble the mechanism which worked first time. 👍 The only point I would make is that when you release the screw, the spring will force out the lower part, straight into your iPad if you’re watching this tutorial 🤣
Thank you James!
Me salvaste de comprar uno nuevo, muchas gracias.
Brilliant video. Without this I would have had zero idea about how to fix my faulty pop-up bathplug. Instead I followed the simple instructions and fixed it in ten minutes. Thank you very much! 👍
Thank you so much. Such a simple mechanism but it was giving me so much trouble. Excellent explanation!
Thank you this worked in left than 5 minutes before that o exhausted all efforts almost threw it out. Thanks!
Brilliant video - just rescued me after I took it apart & couldn't get it back together! Thanks.
5 star. so well explained
Thanks for posting this video - my stopper is working again! In case it helps others, I disassembled the parts and cleaned the brass parts in hot vinegar as I didn't have any sandpaper to hand. This cleaned off the limescale easily. Then I dried it, put on a little grease and it's great now.
This video did help me a lot today. Thank you!!
Some of the greatest value I've gotten from youtube has come from years old videos made by people who aren't professional content creators and are just showing little helpful things. This video is a prime example of that. I was just able to solve a problem that absolutely perplexed me. Thank you.
Pocos enseñan a reparar sin tener que comprar piezas de recambio con más gasto. Excelente.
Great video. One minute our waste was sticking closed, then it wouldn't stay closed. I cleaned everything up and found the small retaining spring on the end needed it's start edge to be pressing sideways on the rod with the bent over ends, then it worked properly.
😊😊😅
hi James, thank you for this informative video. I have a brand new stopper but it would only go down and not up. It came with the bath tub that I bought. I followed your instructions and found that the pin does not have a "kink". The manufacturer sent me a new stopper but I am just wondering where can I buy just a "kinky" pin to fix it. Thanks in advance for inputs.
Fantastic! Agree with @xsbmmr completely. You saved the day as I was able to fix the plug so my wife could resume her daily soak in the bath. You don't know how much that means....!
Thank you very much!!! Saved me 6$
Just came across this when I needed it most. Extremely helpful, clear and, thank God, nobody with their hat on backwards waving their arms and saying "wasupp guys" before getting on with the instruction. This is a lesson on how to make a DIY video. I followed the instructions and the click clack now works like a charm. Thanks a bunch mate.
I am stuck, I cannot get the whole barrel out just the part with the notches for the hook. The hook is still attached to the part still in the drain. The spring is out too. Can anyone help?
Very very helpgill thx brother, Bob Belgium
were so back
2024 and still saving lives 😄 thank you @jameswwchong ! I have a bathroom basin again 😅
Thanks !
Perfect. Could work everything out except how to replace the tiny silver bar. All done so, excellent video!
Thank you very much for saving my day. Easy to follow and invaluable information. Many thanks.
... mind you, a new one is only a few dollars...
… made me wonder why you’re even on this video in the first place
I followed this video and was able to fix my brand new push up drain. Thank you!
Thanks so much, I thought I've irreversibly broke mine but thanks to your video I fixed it in 2 mins
Great, no nonsense, easy to follow video
Thank you so much, helped me when I thought would have to buy new ones
Thank you! My son actually pulled this mechanism apart (twice now) and this video has helped me fix our bath tub!
Excellent video no messing about and great instruction. Thanks
You saved me thank you. Do you have a buy me a coffee link??
Thanks for this tutorial.
Nice Video. Thanks. My Problem is that when the clog is up (Open) the sealing rubber lips still barely touch the rim of the clog. So my wster cannot drain properly. Is there some kind of height adjustments I can configure?
A fantastic and concise example of what a tutorial should be. And it worked! My Pop-Up stopper now works properly for the first time in years. I only would suggest more detail in the process of re-hooking up that damn little clip. But patience and multiple re-watches led to success. Well done!
So helpful thank you so much god bless
The only proper explanation. Thank you.
Thank you, I repaired mine and it works like new!!!
Very helpful job sorted
Couldn't find a replacement cylinder anywhere online. This video on how to repair was SO needed! Thank you SO much for posting, and for being clear and well spoken. Great tutorial!
