As an avid Destiny player myself, your disdain for this series but addiction that drags you back every expansion perfectly encapsulates how I feel about it too
@@baalhighpriestsaban2106 as much as I loved Taken King, I think a lot of our love for it comes from the new content after the mediocre D1 Year 1. I never played Destiny 1 or 2... but my IQ is 3 digits, so I understand those "people" that like this game, need to waste their parent's $$$ money on something. meh, I was gonna troll, but YT IS SO SAD, ALONG WITH THE GAMING and MOVIE INDUSTRY... my heart is just not in it.
I’m SO glad you mentioned how complicated this game would be to a new player. Wife and I gave it a good week before we put it down. We were COMPLETELY overwhelmed. The UI isn’t new player friendly in the least.
Trying to introduce new people into destiny is extremely difficult, especially story wise. Oh yeah that stuff happened, buts it’s gone now so you’ll need to watch lore videos. The current story? Well you’ll need to go back a couple seasons, you had to be there. These new features? Yeah they were added a while ago and aren’t explained at all anymore, gotta look up the tutorial for them. Oh the content itself? Well the game you bought a while ago is gone so if you’re getting back into it you’ll need to buy it all over again.
The UI is super noob friendly. Its simple, crosshair, super, 3 class abilities, 3 weapons and their ammo type and energy showing. You also have the tabs with what you want as well as prompts to tell you what x button would do.
Ngl destiny was easy to get into maybe it's because of the red war campaign, but the game was so enjoyable it just hooked me and my friend and we hated destiny
Everyone’s getting their pants in a knot over UI difficulty. I’m sorry to have misinformed everyone on what I meant. UI isn’t exactly what I meant. What I meant to explain was the menu system as far as quest tracking, what to do first and where and generally learning what certain things are. God it’s been a while so it’s hard to explain. Basically, we had trouble trying to figure out some menu complications.
@@ErickhetfieldI tried to make a stir up post to maybe get it on bungies radar that we don’t like the monetization and how unacceptable the experience for crossplatform players as well as new players is. Sorry to hear that the past two years kicked your ass, extremely relatable in my case. Love your content, always had, and even though I don't play Destiny 2 (only played the beta and during the demo basically) I always enjoy listening to your analysis, as it gives me context to what's going on in the universe that is interesting without actually having to play it. Hope you feel better dude, keep working on yourself and your health, most important thing in my opinion, it's the one thing you got that will improve everything around you outside of the online world. Cheers dude!
As a 4 year destiny 2 addict, whenever i try to get my friends into the game they hit two massive walls: 1) the $200 paywall just to be able to play the game 2) "how do I get that?" -you had to be there. A new player has no reason to keep playing if they're immediately put at a disadvantage for being new, and even if they do get over that hurdle they then have to piece together fragments of story and gameplay activities to understand the story and how to play the game.
Exactly 💯 which is bulshit, because im sure its I their interest to keep this IP alive. Their current model only works to squeeze as much money possible from people who are already hooked on it. Whole it might be very rewarding in the short term, that's how you loose your fans in the long run. No fans no, money.
I love Destiny but could never recommend it... new light experience is awful, especially since they made the game free along with their confusing content model.
the second part is extremely unfair for crucible if you even remotely care about PvP. Because unlike the point commonly brought up "new stuff better, old stuff become trash" there's certain guns that don't get that treatment and are evergreen(always good or have been for a long time). But you can't get those guns that are still overpowered because you "had to be there" at a time where nearly nobody cared about the game. I don't know if those 1st and 2nd dlc/season guns are still broken (they were still OP when beyond light came out) because i haven't touched the game since then.
This game is another example of why good voice actors deserve more respect than the industry usually gives them. They’re important part, like good writing and fun game mechanics.
To be fair, I can't imagine Activision didn't have any involvement with the decision to bring on Hollywood voices for characters. Activision's whole M.O with Destiny was making it as marketable as possible, so why not throw in some recognizable talent to help sell it? I'm just glad Lance is deeply committed to sticking with Destiny for as long as Bungie keeps Zavala around
@@zTxMeta Noticeable talent is never as good as skilled talent, unless they happen to be good at voice work too. Voice work skill and good live action skill are different enough to notice. I love destiny, but it is absolutely the single hardest game to recommend to friends. Its unbelievably cruel for new players to jump into. Side note, your Destiny videos have always been my favourite ! Great script, and wonderful editing made this a joy to watch
I hate how we can't even experience the original campaign because it's not even in the game anymore and May never come back. Now the only way to experience it is a f****** UA-cam playthrough. This could have been avoided if bungee just decided to make a new game
It's also terrible for returning players. For example, I left after shadowkeep (like many people did) and now I found out I'd have to spend at least 160€ to catch up with the upcoming expansion. Among the reasons I left, the lack of interest in the game and general dismay at it's future along with University. I'd like to go back, I really do. But maybe once D3 comes out, if I have any time for games by then, or if/when D2 gets a Legendary edition with everything in it. The value itself is a problem, but the bigger problem is that I cannot play 160€ worth of content by the time new content comes out and some of the one I purchased is innevitably vaulted. Returning players are having problems...well...returning. There's no way anyone can get a friend and say "Hey, wanna spend 200€ upfront to play this game?".
I hated the first couple of DLC's for D2, playing through everything until forsaken after playing D1 was just a kick in the nuts, especially jumping from Xbox to PC. *But*, even I find it easier to suggest someone base D2 rather than what's out now. Seeing the effort that went into base D2 to not leave people out of the loop on the story. Them recently saying they're not sunsetting stuff anymore was just hilariously ironic. Too goddamned late, Bungie.
@@bananasaur5209 how are you spending that much money if you left after shadowkeep? Beyond light + wq + 30th pack is 100 dollars I thought? Plus a season would be 10 extra
My problem with Destiny's story is the exact same as MCU's. The narrative format exists in a perpetual paradox: the story needs to be simple so people can keep up; but the simple story doesn't justify the massive scope.
yeah like there is a shit ton of fantastic lore but you have to read it, the cutscene with zavala after savathun becomes a guardian, he literally does not believe that the traveler left the fallen before it came to humans and how that idea is posed as like an old myth by eris. it just doesnt make any sense
There is a key thing here I think you are missing: The relationship of the Darkness and us was established in Season of Arrivals. There is a reason why Zavala wasn't stoic and adamantly against the whole darkness powers, as we already had that arc happen in Arrivals, a season that had the entirety of its story removed. The problem with the game is even though they have stopped sunsetting of expansions, the seasons are still a pinnacle part of the narrative moving forward. Moments like that are missed and seem very confusing when you play them and dont have the full context or understanding of the story in the universe. Instead its very disconnected and awfully told to new players and only makes sense if, as you said with forsaken, you were there.
As someone who just came back after last playing Forsaken I feel this post in my soul. What the hell is going on? Why the bad guy a Disney Pixar Robot? Where did all the planets go and the content I paid for? What is a HELM? Are The Vex still in the game? I’m so lost and all my gear is useless 😞
It’s a minor point, but I’m glad that you brought up the game’s use of “The Light” and “Darkness” when referencing the two paracausal forces in the game’s universe. There are so many more unique names referenced in the lore that I wish were used such as “The Sky” and “The Deep” respectively. Light and Dark just feel too on the nose for me.
@@biscuitboi9478 because as this very campaign explores, the forces of Light and Dark are both neutral forces, despite appearances. They're means to an end and the only agenda tied to each force depends on the beings that use them.
“Fight, run, fight, run. The pattern is always the same for you. Don’t you ever get tired of it?” That felt like a passive aggressive admission from the writers that the gameplay loop has been repetitive for much of Destiny’s history.
hey if you want a really horrible game you could be playing warframe..and this is a person who has like 300 hours in that game (gave up on it like 2 years ago tho) and i think its a whole lot worse than destiny honestly. Tho i suppose there pretty different cus warframe is more just straight up an mmo with shooting trappings but all the gameplay comes down to mods and stuff and not much or any gameplay skill stuff. That game dosent even have an endgame lol.
I hopped on to Destiny 2 when it went Free to Play, these were my thoughts: 1 - Gunplay was really smooth and fun 2 - Intro mission was bombastic and enjoyable, great set pieces 3 - I'm at the tower, how the hell do I find the story? Where is it? (It turns out it was buried in an obscure corner of the map) 4 - It's been about a week since I started playing, I am bored out of my mind. Everything is so confusing, I'm going to put the game down and I'll probably never pick it up again.
@@Griffith74 They deleted it. I'm not kidding, the base game and anywhere from three to six entire DLCs (depending on whether you count Black Armory/Season of the Forge, Joker's Wild/Season of the Drifter, and Penumbra/Season of Opulence as expansions or just seasons) got deleted when the last two expansions came out, and the vast majority of the game's story in general is in the Seasons... which they delete whenever a new expansion comes out. There's a timeline you can access from a button in the Director that looks for all the world like menu dressing, but all you get is like... maybe two sentences covering the absolute broad strokes of what happened in each season/expansion.
@@Griffith74 It's not about space, funny enough. It's about making sure they can support the game because maintaining it with all the content would have resulted in an unreasonable amount of bloat. Except for the bits where the performance boost from deleting all that stuff disappeared six months into Beyond Light's year, the game is suffering a reward processing bug (induced by content bloat lmao) that has been progressively getting worse since Witch Queen-all six raids are affected by it, as are a number of quests (if you find you can't progress an activity for seemingly no reason, go back and collect all the Glimmer the enemies dropped; that's this bug at work)-and of course that all of this is necessary because Bungie decided to run a game for seven years on an engine that can only handle two, which is the other biggest reason I have such a bone to pick with the DCV. You know, after the whole "deleting content people paid for" thing.

It's just refreshing to see someone so mixed on something in a sea of other people who analyze art saying that something can only be the best or worst thing ever. Keep up the good work IHE!
As someone who just started to play destiny 2, it felt really alienating to try and play with my friends, as they all had the old DLCs, and I felt forced to get them just to be included. The game is not inviting to new players, and it’s impossible to piece together the story without the DLCs or watching a several hour video on the destiny lore. After finally getting all the DLCs I thought that I could finally be included in the community of the game, but then there were the season passes, something I also felt I needed to have to be included. The only gameplay that is really available for new players is the super grindy, unfun, quests. I think that the old DLCs should be free, if not at least super cheap.
The FOMO they've been doing has been outright disgusting. And charging even more for less content. $40 expansions like Beyond Light and The Witch Queen have way less content than Forsaken and cost the same. Then you spend $40 on seasons every year. And now they're also selling dungeons for insane prices standalone instead of putting them in the expansions or season passes you're already paying $80 per year for. And now with Lightfall they're charging $50 for expansions and I doubt it has anything extra for that $10 increase
The worst part is there's no way to get caught up in the game even if you own the DLCs because they keep vaulting content... Additionally frustrating I find is taking a break and coming back to the game.. I can't catch up on what I've missed and all the items I grinded for endlessly are completely useless now..

"You had to be there at the right time" really is how I feel about Destiny as a whole. I tried Destiny 2 a few years back and couldn't get into it. I feel like I missed my chance to enjoy the franchise since I missed the first one.
16:03 Completely agree with this as new/returning player who didn't get to experience some of the earlier stories like Forsaken. Crow is a pretty big main character in the game now. It'd be nice for new players to learn how he came to be and actually have fun with it instead of just watching a video of someone else play. My hope is that they'll bring back the old expansions and allow the stories to be replayable since they've decided to stop vaulting content.
Ive played for thousands of hours. This video has summed up frustrations i didnt know how to express. If the witch queen expansion wasnt so fun i think I wouldve quit long ago. Its almost more infuriating that the campaign was so good and the raid was so fun to explore and play.

as someone who had to deal with the "ghorn or kick" era of density I feel the exact same way for LFG. it's either a very positive experience or a "my way or the high way" scenario. Hey, I've ran alot of carries and teaching runs for raids for a number of players and it's a shame that people feel this way, look out for "sherpa runs" to learn the mechanics for the raid. The lfg discord has a great sherpa channel to get you up and running with how the raids work :)
@@Joshy... well I'm also glad that I have a very active clan made up of hundreds of active players to do raids with so I'm more fortunate then say someone who only does lfg
I hate it when they add an ennemy who actively fights you and didn't tell you anything only to, when it loses and dies, tell you that they were actually trying to help you... This is so dumb. Destiny 2 lore is a mess anyways.
first off savathun is a queen of deception. You cant trust anything she was saying or doing. no one knew she was ressurected. From the guardians perspective, she stole the light and was using it to manipulate the traveler, pulling it to mars in that web she weaved, to lock it away and bring about darkness to us. Turns out, she used uldren sov as an experiment, saw how he got "chosen", did the whole "Devotion=bravery" thing as a last gamble after masquerading as Osiris for years in the tower, became a light bearer, lost her memories, we got her her memories back due to the time dilations/psychic shit going on in mars, and she used that knowledge with her new found powers to fulfill her original plan, which was to hide the traveler from the witness to prevent it from taking it over and plunging the universe in permanent darkness, because she simply got tired of the dark, and her worm, and all the things that entailed. Either way, we may have had the same end goal of stopping the witness, but she was trying to do it by locking away the traveler, so we had to stop her. Its not that she was trying to help us. She was just trying to stop the witness, in her own way, but the end doesnt justify the means, so we saved the traveler and are going about this another way. Eramis tried to destroy the traveler to, for different reasons, it still wouldve had the same goal of stopping the witness indirectly. Most of destiny 2 lore is a complete mess, but dont look past the one actual narrative they were able to flesh out because of it.
I managed to drop it for a bit, came back in for beyond light near the end and paud £40, this was about 2 months before £80 witch queen expansion, I think at that point I knew bungie didn't give a shit about the consumer and so dropped it again
Dropped it after Shadowkeep. I had other things that could distract me from the addiction and like a drug addict in remission I successfully became 100% sober. The one thing I miss is the gameplay, for no shooter in the market is, in my opinion, as mechanically good as Destiny's.
@@bananasaur5209 feels like one of those rehab talks lmao, but I was 100% addicted, I'd keep buying expansions and silver as a little treat and I felt I was too invested to leave and if I just waited a bit longer I'd be rewarded with more juicy content - but it's all drip fed to you while they delete the stuff you already paid for and make it obsolete as you're too busy waiting in anticipation for the new stuff, the most unfriendly consumer business model I've ever had the displeasure of being a part of - its a shame because it's such a good game too - "free to play" with an £80 a year pseudo subscription model, constant microtransaction advertising and drip fed content only accessible to those paying £80 a year for expansions? Disgusting - raids are cool though
@@Nonzeromist67 It also pisses me off that they offer exotics if you buy DLC, bundles, or even fucking prime gaming. I hate that. It feels too easy. Getting exotics in D1 was a pain and annoying but the feeling of getting one was never replicated in D2. D1 had more of that funny brain juice that makes you happy.
The best I can explain how I feel about the game is this: I checked out a couple of weeks ago just to check it out, and to be honest, it was pretty fun for a while. But then I hit the Witch Queen free mission (I think, I'm not sure) and once that was done, a question hit my mind: "What, exactly, am I supposed to do now?" Like it's a game with great and well implemented shooting, but is designed with the idea you WILL get addicted in mind. And I'm just not a fan of that.
I think people might assume "that's just the free part, once I buy in it'll get better" but it doesn't. Whatever you played free... it's just more of that. Unfortunately for the fans it's the same story, an expansion drops, it's kinda good and they assume the seasons to follow will be the real exciting stuff, but they're more of the same and then they get hyped for the next expansion...
That expansion where you open up bunkers killed me. Played the game at least 2-3 hours per day. Got to that seasonal event where you open up bunkers. Was excited for the last one, that was billed as this huge culimination event that would progress the story. Thought they would have done something special with it. Servers opens up, and I run down into the last bunker. Find out I have enough ... of whatever the material was called to open it up. This time around, there are no enemies around, just a lackluster cutscene and thats it. Was done with the final part of the campaign 15 mins after servers opened up. Said to myself "oh, thats it?" and looked what was going to be the next major story. Turns out it was going to be some olympic shit that boiled down to "Do tons of bounties to see which class can do the most bounties!". Turned the game of, uninstalled it and haven't touched it since. Turn in once in a while to videos to see if things have gotten better, and realise, nope it hasnt.
The small bit you mentioned about raiding at the end really speaks to me. I’m a hardcore player and my group of friends who are also hardcore love raiding. Any new players or solo players that don’t raid often or haven’t ever before have very similar stories that you had. Raiding is entirely dependent on your luck of the draw with who you pair up with on LFG or your own friend group. Groups that are negative make raiding miserable. Raids are the best experience in the game if you ever get a solid group of people together for it.
I never did King’s Fall when I played D1, but last night during the opening day I decided to hell with it I’m going in fresh with other randoms from Destiny LFG and the group was super chill and willing to learn. We only just beat the War Priest and we considered that to be raid complete lol because we had gotten what we wanted out of the raid at that point and we all agreed we weren’t going to be able to get further given fatigue. A lot of fun :)
Yeah honestly, unless you know how to find a good LFG group you are more than likely to find a bad bunch of losers who want the raid finished as fast as possible, had to do 30+ dsc runs to get eyes of tomorrow and while most were fine there were a couple of bastard teams that i just got sick of and left.
Hence why I’m so optimistic for the in-game lfg system with Lightfall. If done right, it should offer new raiders a far easier path into raiding, especially since they said you’ll be able to filter between people looking to carry new players and the standard KWTD raids
My friends told me to try Destiny 2 since it became free, and so I did. I installed the free game and asked "Should I buy any of the expansions? Do I get locked out of content otherwise?" One friend laughed sheepishly and told me "Try the base game for a week and then ask again." I tried it for a week, realized that I effectively had what you could compare to the old Smash Bros Brawl demos of older titles, and decided that if I wanted to truly invest my time and effort in Destiny, it would take a small fortune of time, effort, and money. Had I gotten into the game upon its initial release, I would be more willing to throw money this game's way, but as it stands and will continue to stand I will never drop a red cent on it. I remember being so confused when the game went "By the way, Cayde-6 left you a present in the old Earth ruins" and I found a gun from someone whom older players knew, but I was so behind that I felt an infinite bout of whiplash. When you said "You just had to be there" should be the subtitle for Destiny 2, I wholeheartedly agreed.
One thing I'd like to mention: "Newcomer" vs. "Veteran" dialogue. Some character interactions can have differing dialog depending on what stuff you've done in the game beforehand. In Beyond Light, if you're playing on an account carried over from D1, then one of Eramis's lieutenants will comment on you being the one who killed Oryx. When you first see the pyramid in Shadowkeep, your ghost will normally comment "What is that thing? I don't recognize it Guardian." But if you met with the queen during Forsaken, he'll instead say "No, that should not be here." in a very fearful tone. Not very many lines are changed throughout the game, but they usually cut out the overbearing expository bits since you should already know what they're talking about. Nice touch, just thought I should bring it up. (Great video BTW! Can tell this took a lot of time to make!)
@@BREAKocean they actually have two more expansions and intend to keep running the game into the future, with nothing currently in the game being removed except for seasonal content which only applies to the year it is released.
I hate those dialogue things because they have no consistency. I played consoles and switched to pc so my guys act clueless. Ghost sees taken splotches and asks what they are, but Zavala talks about how you have, basically, single-handedly killed gods (Taken King). They half-assed the whole thing and it makes it really irritate me to hear them say any of it because they can't keep it straight and should've just avoided it. They set it up like thousands of guardians are traversing the universe but literally ALL major events pivot around only you. All dialogue of all these events are centered on you. Where's the time? You're essentially immortal but Amanda isn't. She hasn't aged in these dozen galactic threats you've taken care of personally. They've gotten so used to patchwork writing and rewrites, that it doesn't even matter (to them or the playerbase) what is canon or accurate anymore.
Hey, I know this is going to probably be lost in the sea of comments but with your final words I hope you know that a good amount of your fanbase always appreciates the work you put into your videos. I was actually at work when I saw this pop into my sub feed and found myself really happy to hear you talk about this game again, even if I have only minimal experience with the game, you covered so much gripe I had before things got so bloated. Hopefully those editors you want to hire do lighten the load, and I hope you don't stress too much about these videos. Long ones like these are great in my opinion. Keep up the amazing work, can't wait for the next video!
As a hardcore destiny player who does all the content. This review opened my eyes as I realized that I really let so much bad things slide with this series
Having played enough MMOs for literally years of my life, I can vividly recognise the red flags brought up in this video as being true for said MMOs I've played. It's sad, really. The amount of work by the teams behind these types of titles that gets either discarded or reused endlessly, the writing..all to eventually fizzle out and be forgotten or left behind a wall. You won't be able to replay these titles some time in the future because they're online games depending on servers.. You can own a physical copy of a game, but the game as a service will cease to be. I'm just sad..
Fortunately Bungie has said they won't vault any more expansions (just seasonal content, annually as they've been doing) but that's true that once the game shuts down it'll all be gone, so far there isn't an end in sight though
Same here man. I've been looking for that "one MMO to rule them all" for more than a decade at this point. To add to your points, one of the worst parts about Destiny imo is that it's *not* an MMO or at least, it chooses not to learn from MMOs. good MMOs rarely have actual *playable* content locked behind a paywalls because the case where you want to play something with a friend but your friend doesn't own some required full-priced dlc is super unfortunate. Another way MMOs are more player-friendly in that they generally employ some sort of power-level rescaling so that most players can enjoy most of the content because again, the event that you're a returning player who just wants to get a taste of the new content but can't do any of that because newer enemies straight up just one-hit you and are completely immune to your attacks is also super unfortunate. Even super obscure and practically dead MMO shooters like Defiance have/had these things.
@@biskitpagla no such thing as a good MMO, only the combined delusion of "gamers" tricked into supporting "live service games" that are poorly designed mechanically, all in the name of pumping out mindless, repetitive combat. WoW was shit. GW 1 and 2 were shit. Rift was shit. Black Desert was shit. FFXIV was shit with a great soundtrack. Destiny is a bad looter shooter, an already tired brain numbing genre, with an MMO shell designed to suck money out of you by playing on your ego and FOMO.
@@cheeseandrice3Please, don't tell me you actually believe it. They've said the same thing right after beyond light, and then they've vaulted forsaken. They've been promising things for years, yet they lie or underdeliver every single time

He loves the lore, the community, the gameplay and everything about it. I cosplay and he asked me to make him a “rat man” cosplay(I do like his design and the costume is fun to work on at least). There is something cathartic about hearing someone else who knows just as much as my partner passionately rant and critique and point our everything wrong with this game. I love your Destiny videos Alex. I’ll watch them all over again(I listen to them when working on the costume lol) Thank you IHE. You helped saved my relationship.
I can spend an hour talking about how garbage the designs are of the enemies and I haven't played the game for years, it is truly an incredibly bog-standard shooter series
That is a genuinely cool concept to me that the way your backstory is structured and the history of the Traveler frame the guardians as being the foot soldiers for an unfeeling machine only trying to save itself, essentially framing you as the villain. The Light taking your memories to where you are unquestioning is kind of unsettling with the darkness brining ones back makes me think the story is pushing for this focus on balance rather than good vs evil because both sides come across as being puppets for a force that we can’t comprehend.
I also think people are a little rough on the traveler and the light though, it’s nature is to give and we always want more There might be a lesson in there about not overly relying on the charity of others. It showed up and gave us hundreds of years of heaven on earth, then a way to survive when a force showed up that we now know should have come knocking sooner or later anyways. It’s never asked anything of us and still allows us to use it’s power even as we experiment with the power of its enemy. To what degree it owes us anything now, I’m unsure. Yes we’ve defended it several times but it seems like it can just do that itself if need be as seen in the red war and season of arrivals
@@BeeTheBee yes it does, anyone brought back to life by the light have their old lives erased. They have no recollection of who they were before they were Risen. The Witch Queen Campaign even makes a point of this that we were tricked into using the altar of reflection so Savathun could recover her memories.

I always feel like destiny’s writers create a “Newsworthy Scenario” then write the story backwards from that point. Like in vanilla D2 it was “guardians lose their light”, forsaken was “Cayde 6 is killed”, beyond light was “guardians wield the darkness” which works sometimes but kinda makes some story points sour sometimes cause they wanna back-peddle like how in forsaken we finally kill Uldren Sov only for him to comeback? Or like how in Vanilla D2 we lost our light for like 5 minutes only to get it back
Those five minutes where the ingame respawn system was "disabled" were the most interesting five minutes of the entire story, for me. Everything past that was wholly unmemorable.
I see you’ve returned to this channel. Welcome back, I hope you had a nice break from doing this kind of content. I’m glad you’re back and I hope you find more joy in making this content.
As someone who played over 300 hrs around 2021 "U just had to be there" is my exact description. I watched the vaulted first campaign and immediately noticed several things missing now like simple relevant exposition, believable golden age sci-fi instead of lazy soft magic, real item rarity, shared world designs, and characters appearing in missions. My veteran friends seemed to promote it judging it by a state it was no longer in
ihe becomes ILE when the witch queen part starts, its actually surprising seeing you talk well of this franchise. beyond light was a step in the right direction, and it cemented my reason to love the game as I got used to stasis titan (stop sleeping on cryoclasm) the campaign sadly was so much wasted potential and i totally agree with your points. thankfully witch queen was just what i wanted to see from their team. they're really killing it lately. its incredible how much the game has changed positively these past years. try this out on pc with cryoclasm ihe, do a slide, and while your sliding press toggle sprint on the slide animation and jump, only works with some weapon types, so stay away from guns like sidearms and handcannons for this to work consistently. the momentum passes from the slide into the jump and makes stasis feel like the best movement for titan.
Holy shit, I’m so glad you’re back. Literally my favourite UA-camr (and it’s not even close). Missed you so much. Gonna love this video, I can already tell :)
Didn't expect Debra Wilson to make an appearance in this game. I got to meet her when she coached our acting class during a trip to LA, and I have only good things to say about her. She's absolutely insane and loving. We learned so much from her, and she helped us so much to become better actors.
How the hell is Bungie expecting to attract new players when the original campaign and first few expansions are gone? And I can't believe existing players put up with this abusive relationship of vaulting old content.
well you'll be glad to here thar bungie is now essentially down vaulting. they stopped vaulting weapons awhile back, and now they no longer plan to vault dlc content.
@@superior_nobody07 Doesn’t change the fact they still entirely removed a lot of content, new players won’t get remotely the same experience as day 1 players did and now the game’s story/lore or whatever will make absolutely no sense to them unless they watch hours of lore videos
@@superior_nobody07 That's something, but unfortunately Bungie isn't interested in bringing back the deleted expansions. I'll only give the game a chance once they return.
This was such an entertaining watch. I’ve been with Destiny since day 1 and I really enjoyed listening to you talking about the latest expansions. I think having a more casual approach to the game is the best way to play at the moment. The game has such a fantastic foundation, but it desperately needs a rework in a lot of its core gameplay pillars. I know this is completely random, but have you played “Outer Wilds”? If not, please please please give that game look. 👀
Your destiny 1 videos with that other guy was a big part of my earlyish childhood. Sucks to see destiny so different now. Destiny 1 had a vibe that I can't explain
@@bananasaur5209 I find returning at the end of every season every 3 or 4 months has been working well for me, you get to experience the seasonal stories at your own pace and play as much as you want till it gets boring again, which at that point you can take another break, this does mean I miss stuff like the dawning etc. but idc. I am lucky to have found a clan with people who are willing to teach me raid stuff and are very patient when things go wrong. Even just yesterday we spent 7 hours going through the Kings Fall raid where I had to relearn evry mechanic
As someone who's incredibly dedicated to this game, this video really does encapsulate my feelings about it. I absolutely adore it when it's at it's best, and hope they can keep it up over the next expansions, which I know for a fact I'll play regardless at this point.
And you’re the reason bungie keeps pumping out garbage, because you’ve decided you’re buying their garbage no matter how bad it stinks. Have some respect for yourself kid.
I feel the same way, I agree with almost everything he said even being a big fan of the game since d1. But I have to admit it seems like a lot of good things are coming in light fall, content and quality of life. Only time will tell
How about instead of endless expansions they just make a new game so they will never have to vote content again. Also so they can use a new engine since this one is absolutely dogshit since even bungee has admitted it
These 2 hours were way way better than the many hours I've spent doing daily gunsmith bounties! The insane planning involved in "maximize your gameplay" and "keeping track of it all being a game in and of itself" is so true. The challenge this game offers is actually whether you can optimize the time spent in the truly fun mechanics (which is the shooting). The carrot which is the amazing gunplay keeps us addicts coming back. Its ridiculous.
This video is absolutely cathartic to watch. I've been thinking literally the exact same things about this game for years and it seems like nobody wanted to acknowledge any of it. Thank you for making this
It's really sad to see a company that once represented the pinnacle of game design become the pinnacle of a good profit model. There's no denying they know how to make a good game, but they chose to go down the most exploitatively, money grubbing path imaginable
Honestly it's not surprising to me though. Modern Bungie is a shadow, no Marty, no Staten, most of the guys who really made the studio something special are out the door.
@@steve7745 absolutely false, many of the old “Bungie Halo” employees are still there, even if many left when they left Halo. This includes the literal co-founder lol Salvatori and the rest of the music team is still there, Barrett is still there, Parson is still there, even the damn Luke Smith was there during the Halo Days. Bungie has like 1000 employees, do you actually think that ALL of them came in when they started Destiny? Lol Not to mention, that according to an IGN article (that was even mentioned by Parson), the “”old guard”” of Bungie was the most toxic part of the studio, at least story-wise, and one of the main reason why the story of Destiny was awful for years... And you can check these informations by simply looking at their LinkedIn or social profiles. Also Martin was kind of an asshole to work with... wonder why he’s not working anymore? Yeah...

Gotta admit, I didn't expect the old joke about "They call it a 10 year game because that's how long it'll be until it's a real game" to be so accurate to what Destiny would actually end up being.
I always knew the 10 year game line was bullshit. When the sequel came out I argued with people about it and they said "that was always part of the 10 year plan." Yeah dude. That isn't the same as a 10 year game. Every company wants to make sequels.
@@kyle857 Entirely false. It was under contractual obligation that they made Destiny 2, it was never Bungies choice, and despite some fans asking for a Destiny 3, they have been very firm that they have no intention to make Destiny 3, and want Destiny 2 to be a platform for the foreseeable future.
I really like the way your voice has shifted over the years of being on UA-cam. It now has a nice, laid-back and down to earth tone to it that I can't help but appreciate, especially in contrast with your first Destiny video, where you (seemingly) tried your hardest to make your voice distinct and energized with hatred towards this fomo drug of a franchise. I personally quit Destiny when the Witch Queen launched (truly quit it, not the fake "oh I'm uninstalling only to reinstall it tomorrow" quit, like, erased my entire vault, deleted my characters and removed the DLC from my account kinda quit) and I've never felt better, but I still watched this video just to hear your thoughts on it. Great stuff!
I don't think anyone has ever articulated my feelings about Destiny better than this video right here. Thank you for finally putting into words what I've been thinking for years now haha
Hi Alex. Glad you're alive. Three feedback notes for you. One: Incredible video and scope of content. It was great to finally learn about this franchise moving forward in some cool way since your first D2 video (sidenote: I have no history with Destiny for many of the issues you've mentioned.). Your longform vids are my favorite btw, but please don't feel forced to make such long content. Two: It's so nice to see IHE content again, but slight gripe: this felt more like an "I LOVE The Witch Queen" video than a hate one. XD Three: It's always heartwrenching for me to hear when a content creator I like is pushing themselves too hard. Assuming you haven't done so already, consider starting a patreon like all your other contemporaries. Plenty of people, myself included, would donate to feel like they are part of the IHE community. Consider talking to your creator friends about how to construct it and be realistic with how you want to reward people for tuning in if at all. Could be a good way to find some talented people to hire for whatever niche you're itching to scratch.
I never played destiny and this video has bascially educated me on years of experiences in 2 hours, nothing is too long when its in depth and I loved every second of it!
Something really frustrating to me is that an interesting story was locked behind lore tabs on Trials gear. One Guardian goes off the rails when she sees that other guardians are using stasis and she ends up murdering them and their ghosts, like final for real deaths. She goes on a tear across the galaxy and her fireteam hunts her down at the behest of Ikora. Most recently she is caught and imprisoned, but instead of punishing her, with the Witness now here, Ikora releases her to the care of her old fireteam in an "all hands" move. This would have been great storytelling and super interesting to see, and it's frustrating that at this point in the storyline the Vanguard is basically pointless as they don't seem to care about what we do at all. They aren't even a slight roadblock for us, we don't get cast out due to our actions, they're just like "oh well okay I guess do whatever you think is best." They're the leaders of the city, why aren't they leading?
Because Destiny has so much POTENTIAL, even in small stories like these, I mean I’m going to sound hypocritical but if they made that into a small DLC for like $10-15? Where you have to help them? I’d pay for that, that would be so fun. But again it’s because they don’t want to utilize the potential their world has and squander these moments over nothing more pathetic than greed.
Hey Ihe, I just remembered your channel out of nowhere. When I originally started watching your vids, you really inspired me to think more critically about entertainment. And definitely shaped my sense of humor, anyway I hope you're well 😊.
I remember seeing the art and daydreaming about what kind of science fantasy with medieval futuristic wonders the game would lead to. Actually playing it made me jot down ideas for a science fantasy with medieval futurism that I'd actually WANT to experience.
Seems like the base game was ruined by execs demanding a redesign 2 months before release and that destroyed the story and made the main story writer leave the studio.
As soon as I get back into Destiny I see IHE return with a two hour Destiny review. I never been this happy over a coincidence my entire life. Gald to have you back dude.
Woooh you're back! Been loving listenting to Sardonicast as much as ever recently, but to get a 2 hour Destiny review is a real treat I didn't expect. What an awesome surprise to see in my subscription box! Time to get out the metaphorical popcorn and enjoy some IHE. Hope you're doing well Alex!
I really appreciate these somewhat-annual review videos. Gives me a decent vertical slice of what the state of the game is and saves me from having to spend any more money or time on each expansion. Especially with it being such a constant now instead of something once every few months
While I've often disagreed with some of your takes on the destiny franchise, your videos are so well put together and each and every time you talk about the series I can see where you're coming from and respect it. This video was certainly no exception, and I'm actually surprised at the generally lighter tone this video had over your previous ones, despite you going back to your "I HATE [insert thing here]" title structure, which made me expect another video with mostly biting criticism. I wasn't expecting the long stretches of time where you were describing moments from the lore, story, and the missions from the witch queen that you really enjoyed, and this time around you definitely engaged with more of the game than you have for previous videos, which made for a nice fuller picture of the game. I 100% agreed with your criticisms of beyond light's repetitive and grindy structure, as well as the lack of care being put into the core playlists, and how absolutely abhorrent the current pricing model is for the game, along with the abundance of microtransactions. I'm someone who spends a lot of money in this game because I feel like I'm getting my money's worth for the sheer amount of time I spend in this franchise. But seeing it laid out from the context of a lapsed player who's not as invested in the game as I am made me realize just how serious this issue is getting. Thankfully, the Lightfall reveal did actually cover some things that you mentioned in this video, such as an in-game LFG, as well as no more sunsetting. Which is great and all, but you definitely drove home the point of live service games feeling impossible to critique since they're constantly being updated and improved. So anything you mention, even in this very video, could be addressed "eventually." But at the end of the day, those fixes coming in the future doesn't magically make it feel better now, and it won't retroactively make the bad experience people had better. Anyway, this was a great watch. I consume so much destiny content, it's nice to have a more critical look at the game every once in a while, to help me see the perspective of others who aren't as mindlessly addicted to the game as I. You were so thorough in your critique, it doubled as a fantastic video essay, not just a review. I'd like to see more game reviews and critiques from you some time that aren't just Destiny sometime too. Hearing you talk about things that you actually enjoy is pretty nice, even if it kinda goes against your branding. I think it'd be interesting to hear your thoughts on a game that you actually FULLY enjoy, not like the love/hate relationship you have with Destiny.
The sad thing about live-service game development which I don't think a lot of people realize yet: their will almost always be a delayed period between the initial complaints and criticisms from the community and the response and reworking by the devs. It is physically impossible to implement structural overhauls in the amount of time the more impatient members of the community want. But sadly that delay can create the image that the "devs don't listen"
@@J-manli All the more reason why it's important to get it as close to right as you can the first time. That's why I hate most "live service" games: it gives the executives at these publishers (not necessarily the devs themselves) an excuse to push out half-assed, half-baked products to meet a quarterly deadline under the premise of "we'll fix it later". It's lazy, it's anti-consumer, and it's downright disrespectful to the developers' artistic and creative vision, because no dev wants their game to go out unpolished and unfinished. I'm not saying minor bugs won't happen in games or that mistakes in development won't be missed. It happens, it's inevitable, but you can clearly tell the difference between a missed check and publishers really not giving a shit about a competent, finished product, e.g. Cyberpunk 2077 or Fallout 76.
@@TheAcidicMolotov It's genuinely sad that's what Destiny 2 has come to. I put a lot of time and a solid chunk money into it over the last 3 years and the only thing that kept me there was social experiences with friends and sunken cost fallacy. I've put down the game for now but to me it's sad to see people just sit and watch Bungie get away with these extremely consumer-unfriendly practices. I never shilled for Bungie but I believed that "it would get better" (E.G. preordering deluxe editions etc.) and while it did show hope with things like Witch Queen, it doesn't change that fact that my time outside of major content drops was spent in a skinner box of repetition and bland reward, and that I'll never get that time I spent back. Sorry for the rant.
The random guy at the cosmodrone is for the new tutorial mission if you're just now joining the game. It's basically the same mission from Destiny 1 but when it should end at the ship instead you meet that guy and go on a completely different and long repetitive mission to find his fireteam. If you were a player before this point he has no explanation as to why he is there and is just a random dude lol
5:35 I just wanted to say that describing the numerous pinnacles and bounties you have to do every week as "chores" is a fucking excellent way of putting it. God it fucking drags sometimes.
you really don't have to though. I basically only ever grind pinnacles for day 1 raids(which is once or twice a year) and never grind bounties, but I regularly do GMs as soon as they come out every season.
Everytime I want to come back to Destiny, I see a video like this and instantly come to my senses. I just want a fun, sci fi romp but the extra headaches that you have to deal with just make it not worth the hassle
I love the video, but one thing to anyone who doesnt know because they dont play: At 1:23:06 he says "The deep crypt raid" The raid is called "Deep Stone Crypt", and thats the Beyond Light raid in the Clovis Bray space station (One of the few very good things in beyond light), the "Vow of the Disciple" Is the Witch queen raid, he confused the two, which is understandable, but i thought id post this correction.
For me the main thing that keeps me playing is the gunplay. Obviously there are lots of systems to keep you playing and incentivize grind, but playing the game is entertaining enough that i'm happy to slog around doing bounties, seasonal challenges and moseying around with whatever activity I feel like doing on any given week. I really like D2, as someone who has been playing since D1.
Don’t play destiny, and also wasn’t too invested in your previous destiny videos as they leaned more into the “angry rant” persona your channel typically leans into, but this was a fantastic video essay. I very much appreciated this, excited for more content of this vein even if it is a different tone than what you usually perform with.
“the potential is all there as long as they stick the landing” this video is so depressing coming back to after playing lightfall man. you got so many things right but they somehow managed to miss the mark on almost everything
As an outsider who tried it once, I got it to play with some friends and started with the very short story mode, once I got to a point where I was comfortable I asked to join my friends and almost immediately I realized how much I was "missing out" on. They almost immediately made prevalent that all the DLCs are pretty much the same and are just like the regular story mode which then incentivize me NOT to buy it I then deleted destiny 2 Absolutely no regrets
this game's art designers are wasted talent. 90% of this game is being carried by just environmental design and art style. the "story" and the gameplay are worse than mediocre mundane nonsense
Hey IHE, I really look forward to these videos every year. You got me interested in destiny ever since your forsaken video came out, and as a result I gave the game a try when it was free on battlenet. It has had an immeasurable amount of impact on my life ever since. I met some of my best friends through the game and have had so much fun playing it since I've started, I even sherpa raids for my team of friends and it all started thanks to your amazing videos :D. I'm glad you're still playing the game. Cant wait for the next video on lightfall. Thank you!
I enjoy playing the game but my biggest issue is the cost, the content vaulting and how the free 2 play version has that big asterisk. The big cost is self explanatory. For a supposed social game they really do a great job locking content behind paywall after paywall. They should just accept they're basically almost an MMO and tweak their system imo. The content vaulting is annoying and while they've said they are going to try their hardest to avoid vaulting any other old expacs it is annoying how wacky the new player experience is. I started in Season of the Splicer. Since I had a lot of free time at the time I was able to binge old Byf videos and get context but anybody else would have been lost, confused and indifferent towards the plot and characters. Then that same seasonal content is eventually vaulted making how stuff got to be in new expacs more confusing. Lastly, the free 2 play asterisk lol. It made me a bit angry when I tried getting a new player into the game. The free version is just a shitty demo that doesn't let you do most of the stuff that Id call great content or a hook. The console versions as far as I'm aware still need a membership too.
I appreciate your time and dedication making this video, it was a brilliant watch beginning to end! I am a Destiny hopper, sometimes i want to scratch that itch, other times i dont play for a year. Its a game that I could best describe as chaos incarnate and it always gets harder to play each time, not necessarily in difficulty but more because there is so many things changed each time its hard to keep up.
I'm glad people like you review this game, sometimes I just get carried away and don't see the bigger picture and go with the flow no matter what. I will still love this game no matter what, but taking stuff less serious and for what it is, is a much better approach.
I never thought that the perpetual limbo my feelings exist in for destiny 2 could be put into words as crystal clearly as you did with this video. This was my first experience I've had with your channel it is not the last. Thank you and take your time.
Beloved IHE, I hope the winter has treated thee well. I miss your smooth British voice ringing in my ears with every passing second since the release of the Lightfall expansion. I shall await your review with baited breath for as long as it takes. From Your Bag King, Brian
I think the part where you talk about Zavala not being as apprehensive towards the darkness as you'd expect is a good example of external lore hurting ongoing narrative. There was a small lore bit added on Destiny 2's twitter where it highlights Zavala's lose in trust for the traveler over time. This is further compounded later in small little niche story bits but it would have been nice to have an actual cutscene in game that helped highlight this.
There were cutscenes. It was the season immediately after the Witch Queen expansion came out. You had dialogue galore about it. All removed now, of course, but it was there.
As an avid Destiny player myself, your disdain for this series but addiction that drags you back every expansion perfectly encapsulates how I feel about it too

@@RetroAdzz thanks for the timestamp. I'm not interested in Destiny at all but wanted to know what the other stuff was.
As a 4 year destiny 2 addict, whenever i try to get my friends into the game they hit two massive walls:
1) the $200 paywall just to be able to play the game
2) "how do I get that?" -you had to be there.
Or God forbid they see a piece of equipment from an earlier expansion only to find out it's simply outclassed to the point of being worthless.
I will absolutely never recommend this shit of piece game.
the second part is extremely unfair for crucible if you even remotely care about PvP.
Agreed. Although I think warframe is even tougher on newbies

@@Tylericous "until the next major expansion" there is the problem. That its timed AT ALL.
There is a key thing here I think you are missing:
The relationship of the Darkness and us was established in Season of Arrivals.

2 - Intro mission was bombastic and enjoyable, great set pieces
3 - I'm at the tower, how the hell do I find the story? Where is it? (It turns out it was buried in an obscure corner of the map)
4 - It's been about a week since I started playing, I am bored out of my mind. Everything is so confusing, I'm going to put the game down and I'll probably never pick it up again.

And now they're also selling dungeons for insane prices standalone instead of putting them in the expansions or season passes you're already paying $80 per year for. first off savathun is a queen of deception.
Yeah but even if she did idk if xavala would’ve let it happen anyways.

The best I can explain how I feel about the game is this: I checked out a couple of weeks ago just to check it out, and to be honest, it was pretty fun for a while. But then I hit the Witch Queen free mission (I think, I'm not sure) and once that was done, a question hit my mind:
"What, exactly, am I supposed to do now?" Like it's a game with great and well implemented shooting, but is designed with the idea you WILL get addicted in mind. And I'm just not a fan of that.
I think people might assume "that's just the free part, once I buy in it'll get better" but it doesn't. Whatever you played free... it's just more of that.

They did that ALOT with base D2. Wish they hadn't cut it out so much.

Hell yeah
You put it really well, I always enjoy the IHE Destiny videos!
As a hardcore destiny player who does all the content. This review opened my eyes as I realized that I really let so much bad things slide with this series
is that not true with all things we love ?
Source : 3k hours in d2
That’s why I dig ESO
They've been promising things for years, yet they lie or underdeliver every single time
My boyfriend is obsessed with this game. He plays it every night with his friends whenever I come home from work (he works from home most days).
This so wholesome
Cringe
duality of man
I can spend an hour talking about how garbage the designs are of the enemies and I haven't played the game for years, it is truly an incredibly bog-standard shooter series
None of this is real, please touch grass.
Awesome IHE is back.
We need more hatred
more everything
and more IHE
That is a genuinely cool concept to me that the way your backstory is structured and the history of the Traveler frame the guardians as being the foot soldiers for an unfeeling machine only trying to save itself, essentially framing you as the villain. The Light taking your memories to where you are unquestioning is kind of unsettling with the darkness brining ones back makes me think the story is pushing for this focus on balance rather than good vs evil because both sides come across as being puppets for a force that we can’t comprehend.
Read the graviton forfeit loretab, you'll like it :)
The light doesn't take memories
I also think people are a little rough on the traveler and the light though, it’s nature is to give and we always want more
There might be a lesson in there about not overly relying on the charity of others.
Quite literally what the Witness is trying to do
It's a shame you are not making videos anymore. The Search for the Worst was great stuff !
Good luck with whatever you are doing now!
He does a weekly podcast with a brother and a friend. It's extremely funny and consistent - every week for years. If you need more Alex then he's great on there, it's called Jarcast
@@bajscast
RedLetterMedia's Rich Evans and Jack Packard used to have a gaming channel called "previously recorded", and sometimes they would invite Jay and inevitably talk a lot about movies ... that was fun, but it was not the same as an episode of BOTW or HITB.
Talking about movies without showing scenes is rather pointless.
_
@@ricksimon9867 Still couldn't hurt to give it a shot. They aren't talking about exclusively movies on there! And Previously Recorded isn't a thing anymore so they can focus entirely on BOTW and HITB, Jack's over at the Escapist now with Yahtzee Croshaw himself
This was an excellent come back. I would just like to add that for me myself, I don't mind very unregular uploads when content this outstanding comes from the time taken. In the mean time I just watch Jar Media. I love Jar and it keeps me occupied and then when you do finally drop again I'm super excited. Please do more content this long and exceptional. Loved you since 2016. Thanks sm for this great video I'll be returning to it. (I'd love more videos analysing media, Expecially something you love maybe.)
Or like how in Vanilla D2 we lost our light for like 5 minutes only to get it back
Uldren didn’t really come back though.
Those five minutes where the ingame respawn system was "disabled" were the most interesting five minutes of the entire story, for me. Everything past that was wholly unmemorable.
Uldren being revived as Crow is anything but back-peddling. It was a massive step forward
I always hated that destiny 2 detail. I was hooked on destiny 2... until I got my light back. How long did it even took? A single mission???
@@yol_n like 1.5 if you’re feeling generous lmao. Red War was a shitshow.
As someone who marathons IHE’s destiny vids whenever I can, this is certainly a pleasant surprise.
I'm so glad he continued on with it. Seriously my favorite videos of his.
That's great to hear! Loved her in Wolfenstein 2. Great performance. Apparently she's good in Star Wars.
How the hell is Bungie expecting to attract new players when the original campaign and first few expansions are gone? And I can't believe existing players put up with this abusive relationship of vaulting old content.
That's the thing... They aren't expecting new players
You'd be surprised! I have seen a LOT of longtime players actually defend both the vaulting of weapons and content.
well you'll be glad to here thar bungie is now essentially down vaulting. they stopped vaulting weapons awhile back, and now they no longer plan to vault dlc content.
Yes outer wilds is fucking great anyone should play it
But the game isn't designed for a casual approach. That's the problem. They can't figure out the middle point between hardcore and casual.
Oh shit gehab lol I found your channel from a D1 beta video

Honestly it's not surprising to me though. Modern Bungie is a shadow, no Marty, no Staten, most of the guys who really made the studio something special are out the door.

Bungie has like 1000 employees, do you actually think that ALL of them came in when they started Destiny? Lol
Not to mention, that according to an IGN article (that was even mentioned by Parson), the “”old guard”” of Bungie was the most toxic part of the studio, at least story-wise, and one of the main reason why the story of Destiny was awful for years...

Halo too. Sad future for games
Destiny is a great game
@@kyle857 Entirely false. It was under contractual obligation that they made Destiny 2, it was never Bungies choice, and despite some fans asking for a Destiny 3, they have been very firm that they have no intention to make Destiny 3, and want Destiny 2 to be a platform for the foreseeable future.
@@kyle857 destiny 2 still isn't a real game lmao. It's a decent campaign with a bunch of irrelevant stupid DLCs.
I didn't quit that hard, but I uninstalled it in Shadowkeep and never installed it again.
I don't think anyone has ever articulated my feelings about Destiny better than this video right here. Thank you for finally putting into words what I've been thinking for years now haha
Can’t wait for the lightfall review.
XD
Three: It's always heartwrenching for me to hear when a content creator I like is pushing themselves too hard.
I’ve never heard of that mini story. That’s so fucking cool, and something you could only really see in Destiny’s universe.
Hey Ihe, I just remembered your channel out of nowhere. When I originally started watching your vids, you really inspired me to think more critically about entertainment. And definitely shaped my sense of humor, anyway I hope you're well 😊.
Glad to see you're back; you've been very much missed, man.
Great to see you back, Alex!
Fun fact - have never played any Destiny games but i still enjoy watching your destiny videos.
I'm pretty sure the best way to experience Destiny is to not play the games.
It's very repetitive but the multiplayer is fun.
I just noticed the whole "moth chasing light" thing they had going on, really compliments the story and world design
This game has content spread out so thin you forget how bad the game is💀
Imagining what Destiny could be through the rich and beautifully crafted concept art is a much more rewarding exercise than actually experiencing it.
I think a lot of games have this cool concept art, but not much of it comes to the actual game. It's a shame.
Wonderful to see you again IHE. Hope you're feeling good these days
This is too long and i didn't read it
Is what i would say if i really didn't read it
Game doesnt get better bc we have fans shill for mediocrity. This will always be games. Idiots fine with just grinding strikes
Never played Destiny, don't know anything about it, but I will watch this video back to back dammit! Good to have you back :D
Good news, light level is more than likely disappearing in Lightfall.
Everytime I want to come back to Destiny, I see a video like this and instantly come to my senses. I just want a fun, sci fi romp but the extra headaches that you have to deal with just make it not worth the hassle
Haven't seen this man's content in ages, was a pleasant surprise when I saw his channel in my sub box
I love the video, but one thing to anyone who doesnt know because they dont play:
At 1:23:06 he says "The deep crypt raid" The raid is called "Deep Stone Crypt", and thats the Beyond Light raid in the Clovis Bray space station (One of the few very good things in beyond light), the "Vow of the Disciple" Is the Witch queen raid, he confused the two, which is understandable, but i thought id post this correction.
“the potential is all there as long as they stick the landing”
this video is so depressing coming back to after playing lightfall man. you got so many things right but they somehow managed to miss the mark on almost everything
As an outsider who tried it once, I got it to play with some friends and started with the very short story mode, once I got to a point where I was comfortable I asked to join my friends and almost immediately I realized how much I was "missing out" on. They almost immediately made prevalent that all the DLCs are pretty much the same and are just like the regular story mode which then incentivize me NOT to buy it
I then deleted destiny 2
Absolutely no regrets
this game's art designers are wasted talent.
They have ended content vaulting. :)
Yes, you still need Playstation Plus just to even play basic strikes. I hate sony.
Now he hates making videos
HE'S ALIVE 😱
He does hate everything, not sure how you didn't see this coming
I'm glad people like you review this game, sometimes I just get carried away and don't see the bigger picture and go with the flow no matter what. I will still love this game no matter what, but taking stuff less serious and for what it is, is a much better approach.
A lot of work must have gone into this, and thinking you’d never do this again, I thank you from the bottom of my heart for putting this video out.
I never thought that the perpetual limbo my feelings exist in for destiny 2 could be put into words as crystal clearly as you did with this video. This was my first experience I've had with your channel it is not the last. Thank you and take your time.
Beloved IHE,
I hope the winter has treated thee well. I miss your smooth British voice ringing in my ears with every passing second since the release of the Lightfall expansion. I shall await your review with baited breath for as long as it takes.
From Your Bag King,
Brian
I think the part where you talk about Zavala not being as apprehensive towards the darkness as you'd expect is a good example of external lore hurting ongoing narrative. There was a small lore bit added on Destiny 2's twitter where it highlights Zavala's lose in trust for the traveler over time. This is further compounded later in small little niche story bits but it would have been nice to have an actual cutscene in game that helped highlight this.
There were cutscenes. It was the season immediately after the Witch Queen expansion came out. You had dialogue galore about it. All removed now, of course, but it was there.
@@PlusOne2Crit Season of the Risen wasn't removed though.
