Tip for making an "ironic" movie: don't. Make an extremely serious, ambitious, self important movie that fails ridiculously and insist it's your masterpiece. People want to laugh at you, not with you.
Also, to paraphrase Yoda, there is no "try to fail", there is only "fail". Failure will come naturally. Fuck, everyone fails. It's part of learning. Masterpieces are made after many, many failures. So try like hell to succeed. Something incredible will result either way.

I don't think Lewis Schoenbrun himself was trying to make a cynical, intentionally-bad, Sharknado-style cinematic shitpost-- the dude just comes off as way too clueless and sincere in the commentary. I think he's just a _genuine idiot_ who made an awful home
movie with his boomer friends and had no idea it sucked, and then the distributor-- the same ones behind fucking Shark Exorcist-- saw what they had to work with and marketed it the same way they do the rest of their awful tripe.
Absolutely. People always fall back on the "it's supposed to be bad" argument when people start criticizing their work, it's obvious that he thought working with a genuinely good movie and had to switch up when it was panned.

The people that made this new exactly what they were doing. The use of the stock clips at the end puts the last nail in the coffin on this. It's very clear they knew they were making a total piece of garbage, and they continued production with this concept in mind. What a masterpiece lmao. Watch this with friends and alcohol and have a great time.

It doesn’t take a budget to show passion or even hard work to make a movie or any project you genuinely love. On the movie ‘Who K!lled Captain Alex,’ in Africa they literally went without electricity for weeks at a time. The Director even stated he had never been to a theater before. But he genuinely enjoyed making it the movie and it shows! He dedicated it to us all which is beautiful if you ask me. That is making a movie with no movie but passion shinning through looks like
In defense of this: I believe it turned out exactly how the creator wanted it to. An incomprehensible mess. And I love that.

I feel like the Director is making excuses for not having a good idea. There are good movies with micro budgets, like the following, clark’s, the Blair witch Project, Eraserhead, paranormal activity etc. the most important you need is a great story and well written characters.

HOO BOY THIS TOOK A LONG TIME TO MAKE!
So a couple things:
I have chosen to get rid of the SFTW intro BECAUSE I looked at my analytics and about 20% of people were leaving before the video had even started. Also no one on mobile can use the skip button.
The reason this took so long was because the script was about 10 pages, and I keep discovering new editing tricks to make things look better. I definitely think it was worth the extra time though.

Actually, that's a lie, because at least my product would be like a short film or one image which had consistent realism, rather than having like a really detailed cage with like a low detail rat slapped in. It would all just be low detail cartoon.

I'd bet they could've contacted locations to see if they could film there. Like the lab could've been filmed at an actual high school with a science lab on the weekend and it probably would've looked better. And I'd bet it would've saved them money that could've gone to getting better stock footage and equipment
