The problem with this kit is no FILTER. Filter is sold separately.
Just bought one, it HAD a filter (a very nice, large one....sits outside the tank and tubes run into the tank, you can use the spray bar or the diffuser - both included). It included a heat lamp and UVB light in one housing -- like a dual black housing and the two bulbs are screw in, one is the heat lamp - very bright, and the UVB light is a fluorescent screw-in. did not come with the feeding tweezers you see in the video above. also, the kit does not come with a heater...but i bought a heater for 12 dollars because the guy at the Pet store looked up the original 26 dollar heater and found a competitor with it for 12.65, gave me the 12.65 deal on the heater. also , get yourself a thermometer/temp gauge for 3.50 ...... also, get a bunch of rocks (not the turtle type) that are just fish rocks..you'll get a 25 lb. bag of rock for cheap without having to pay an arm and a leg for the larger turtle rocks , which are a rip-off. also, get some add'l fake plastic coverage plants (it comes with one plant with a suction cup). Also, this kit comes with the medium TURTLE DOCK, which is fine for the 40 gallon tank which you are going to fill half way full. I hope this helps with anyone that is going to buy this...... cost of the entire 40-gallon kit (minus the heater, temp gauge, rock) is 143 usd. later turtle lovers!!!
@Veronica Tom Gotcha, yea, the filter was a nice touch because of it's quality. It's still running strong. I did buy new clear tubes because the other ones got really filled with algae or some other substance which is really hard to clean. New tubes were cheap and i bought two sets , one for future use. If anyone knows how to keep that gunk from forming in the tubes, let me know. Tank is not fully cleaned out all the time so as to promote beneficial bacteria , but if it gets a bit cloudy, then it's fully cleaned . It does get a rock-bottom cleaning from time to time and I'd say the full cleaning is about one in every 4 months.
@Veronica Tom no problem. as far as the tubes, they took a long while to develop the "schmag" but the "schmag" returned quickly after new tubes were put in, which tells me I didn't clean the filter out like I needed to. Get extra charcoal bags from Zoo-Med for your exact size filter (size is on the box so DON'T throw it away, at least for now until you order them (charcoal replacement bags) - it's (the model #) on the physical unit but hard to see once you've installed everything). I usually just cut out the model number off the box and take a picture of it or put it in a file. You can order them very cheaply for two in a package. The "media" components in the filter collect helpful bacteria but could use a cleaning every now and again but just lightly under water only (They are the light colored obscure looking pieces). Also: I would get a water heater than has the digital display built right into it in red that can be set with an outside toggle switch, they are really handy. Initially, I used two water heaters , one on each side (longways) in the tank. That keeps things nice and toasty for the turtles and fish. Legend: "schmag" = foreign matter or crap that will collect in the tubes if you're not a good cleaner of filter and tank.

Why does the 20 gallon turtle kit have a filter and a splash proof halogen bulb but the 40 gallon kit doesnt have these
The items included were decided to be the best combo for a starter kit of their respective size, while still remaining a reasonable price.
With a larger enclosure, more options are available, so the best filter for your unique habitat may vary depending on how the water section is set up and what you're keeping. Hope that helps.

The 20 gallon tank kits are far too small for most turtles,but That kit is complete almost you have to buy so Mutch more to get a good home for your turtle!

+Shade pyro bat It depends on their diet. If Repti Calcium provides vitamins that are missing from their normal diet, than yes. Repti Calcium shouldn't be used in water though.

Depends on how close it is to your pet and the temperatures your pet is receiving. Always monitor and adjust the temperatures in your pet's habitat for the best results.

Hi, Kyle. It's difficult to say for sure if there is a problem without knowing his setup or history. Just like people, animals can be hesitant when being introduced to new food. Give him enough time, and I'm sure he'll come around.
If he's showing other signs of possible sickness, like lack of activity, not defecating, or other noticeable irregularities, I would suggest taking him to a reptile vet or specialist for a hands on diagnosis. Hope everything is alright. Take care.

Depends on the species you are keeping and the natural temps of the area you are keeping the habitat. Always adjust your pet's habitat to best suit their needs.

is it okay to feed a baby turtle adult turtle food?
The main differences between the juvenile and adult formulas are the smaller pellet size so it is easier for them to eat, and the higher protein count for gorwing turtles.

With our starter kits, we try our best to provide a large range of the basics for starting a habitat while still keeping it reasonably priced.
As for the filter specifically, being a bigger tank means more options for the water feature, and instead of try to limit what someone may plan for the habitat, it was decided to have the filter sold separately.

Christos Siokos That dock is suitable for turtles that are 6-8 inches in diameter. If the turtle becomes too large for the dock, the habitat and dock will probably need to be upgraded. While some turtles can grow to 12" or larger, many will never get larger than 4-6" (Male RES for example do not grow larger than about 6".)

The Turtle Clean 50 might be overkill for an aquarium of that size. I would recommend the Turtle Clean 318 or Turtle Clean 15, or maybe the Paludarium Filter 20.

I wouldn't recommend it because they can grow up to 12 inches and it's best to follow the ten gallon per inch of turtle rule

As 'I like to eat cake' said, a 20 gallon tank will most likely not function well for an adult Red-Eared Slider, but it could work great for RES hatchlings.

The only prohibition Singapore has, as with some countries, is the keeping of certain reptiles as pets. There is no prohibition on products.
