    It’s really good you don’t include a red light because it can mess with bearded dragons’ eyes. And I know sand is safe for older bearded dragons but for younger ones, it can cause complications digesting. Also, I heard that the heating pad can burn there feet. There’s probably proper instructions on how to use it in the instructions. I’ve saved my money up for about a few months and now I can get my beardie this tank! I’m so excited

    Just bought this at Pet Smart yesterday. What a great deal it was and it's such an amazing kit for anyone that has or wants a bearded dragon. Mine is currently 4 months old and in a much smaller Exo terra vertically aligned terrarium. But I'm setting this up for him today as he is growing fast and this 40 gallon tank provides more than enough room for your Bearded dragon to live very comfortably. I would recommend this to anyone with a bearded dragon !

    I bought this tank for my sulcatas and I have never been more satisfied with a product in my life! I obviously dont use the bearded dragon food but the rest of the items in the high quality cage I use. The glass is thick and high quality and wow! The lighting is so amazing. I hope more people buy this cage because its worth every penny. Great job zoomed! 😀

      Bongodapug Ree exactly! They will get impacted, and “can’o’worms 😬 no nutritional value and “mealworms” are difficult to digest. Small and medium Dubai roaches, hornworms and crickets are better options

    If I were to just have a tank, would it be good for a blue tongue skink? And if you can, can you make a blue tongue skink setup?

    • @ZooMed
      @ZooMed  4 роки тому +4

      Depending on your Skink's unique size and how their habitat is set up, one could potentially do well in a 40 gallon.

    I have a question. I heard that the UVB light has to cover at least half the tank, is this true or would the UVB lamp that comes with this kit be good?

    • @ZooMed
      @ZooMed  7 років тому +2

      Really depends on how your habitat is set up. If the lamp is set up correctly at the appropriate distance for your pet, and there is an area for your pet to find cover, it should be fine. See our website for more info:

      Any non-food item can cause impaction. The best way to avoid impaction is to make sure your pet is receiving the appropriate vitamins, nutrients, and nourishment for a healthy diet so they don't feel compelled to find it themselves in non-food items, like sand. Ultimately, substrate choice is what you are comfortable with for your pet. See our Care Sheet page for more info:

      Our 20 gallon starter kit is a good option, or if you're set on using the 40 gallon, placing a board or separator of some kind to shrink the space can work as well. Hope that helps.

    Never add sand for baby bearded dragon

    • @deathsonggaming
      @deathsonggaming 3 роки тому +1

      I wouldn’t add any loose substrate for babies. I wouldn’t use pure sand on an adult too. I’d only use sand for them if mixed in with something like eco earth, 50/50 mix or mostly eco earth. That way, impaction risk is reduced instead of pure sand.

    You know sand isn’t good for them why do you put it in?

    • @ZooMed
      @ZooMed  6 років тому +5

      There is a common misconception that sand or substrates are the primary cause of impaction in reptiles. In reality, impaction is a condition caused by poor husbandry in a reptile's diet and can be caused by any non-food item.
      If a pet is not receiving the appropriate vitamins, nutrients, or nourishment in their diet, they'll naturally attempt to find it in the items in their habitat. As long as your pet is well taken care of, substrates shouldn't be an issue.
      However, for hatchlings and younglings we do recommend Eco Carpet as they tend to be messy eaters.
      Hope that answers your question. :)

      Zoo Med Laboratories Is it possible to put any other reptiles with a bearded dragon?

    • @ZooMed
      @ZooMed  10 років тому +1

      Ryan Villella It's certainly possible, but a lot of research is needed to make sure they're compatible. You'll need animals from similar habitats. You'll need to research they're territorial behaviors, diets, and habitat space. Gauge size to make sure one doesn't out compete the other, and more. Several sites online can probably help you narrow down possible options. Hope that helps some. Take care.

      Thanks for contacting us.
      From lamp and habitat setup, to simply a difference in how you're gauging your temps, there are a lot of factors that could be causing the temperature differentiation.
      Here are some things to consider when gauging and setting up your basking spot:
      - Lamp type and placement, and how close it is to your basking spot (make sure it's the appropriate distance from your pet).
      - What other heating devices are being used; do you need more/less?
      - Air-circulation and local temps of where the habitat is set up.
      - Where your basking spot is; is it over something that is more/less conductive to heat?
      - Is your method of measuring the heat different? Thermometer closer to heat source? Different kind of thermometer?
      Ultimately, it's up to you to assess what you can change to make your pet's habitat better, and adjust accordingly. Hopefully these suggestions will help you in some way. If you're looking for additional or alternative heating devices, check out our website:
      www.zoomed.com
      Hope that helps. Take care.

    • @ZooMed
      @ZooMed  3 роки тому

      As with most animals that attempt to eat non-food items, it can stem from either inexperience (like hatchlings and some younglings), or desperation (like from some form of malnourishment).
      If you are keeping an adult Bearded Dragon that is healthy and receiving the appropriate nourishment and diet they require, you shouldn't have to worry about keeping them on a substrate. Hope that helps some. Take care.

      Sand, or any non-food item, only becomes a problem when your pet isn't receiving the appropriate vitamins, nutrients, or nourishment it needs for a healthy lifestyle to the point that they attempt to find it themselves.
      However, if your pet is a hatchling or youngling, we recommend starting them on our Eco Carpet and upgrading them to a substrate as they get bigger and more accustomed to eating (hatchlings are messy eaters). Check out our Care Sheet page for more info: links.zoomed.com/caresheets

I’m just wondering since my dome dual lamp has two settings for each of the bulbs it came with do I have to keep both lights on or could I turn the brightest one off during the night

    • @ZooMed
      @ZooMed  3 роки тому +1

      For your pet's health, you'll want to try your best to recreate the natural day/night cycle of the sun, so turning off bright lights at night is recommended.
      However, you'll also want to make sure that your pet is still receiving appropriate temperatures for their night cycle. A drop in temperature is natural for nighttime, just make sure it isn't too drastic of a drop.
      Hope that answers your question.

      We're not as familiar with the specifics of that bulb, but as long as it is the appropriate wattage and the bulb doesn't protrude past the dome of the lamp (thus avoiding touching a part of your pet's terrarium) there shouldn't be a issue. • @ZooMed

      At that age, both should work fine, just consider the potential for growth.
      The size of their habitat is ultimately up to you. Every Bearded Dragon is different, as long as they are small enough in comparison to their habitat to comfortably maneuver their habitat with little trouble they should be fine.
      Consider how you plan to set up the terrarium and act from there. We personally have a variety of beardies happily living in both sized tanks. Hope that helps some. Take care. :)

      Jose G When raising temperatures in a habitat, there are a few things you can do. First, take into account the local temperatures of the room you are keeping the habitat in and make sure it isn't conflicting with any other temperature control like air conditioning. You can increase the wattage of the existing heat bulbs (make sure you have the appropriate watt fixtures), or you can add additional heat sources like Under Tank Heaters, Heat Cables, or more Heat bulbs/heat emitters. +Luis A (TakuaMe) To be honest, you shouldn't resort to a kit to sort you out. You had and still have plenty of time to find things out, so make the most of it and get what you really want before going down the easy route and getting a kit. If you buy things separately, you are going to have more understanding on what exactly you have and why you need it which will help you and your pet out in the long scheme of things. Plus you get more freedom - you can choose a different style of terrarium/vivarium to what you prefer.
      Kits do have a time and place, but I don't think that this should be it ;)
