- Finally installed animation nodes in Blender and I love it so far.
Download animation nodes here: animation-nodes.com
This guy has great tutorials: • #1 - Animation Nodes i... - Фільми й анімація
One day we’ll get an explanation for why this Hollywood director wants to smash ponies
Because ponies are EEEEVIIILLL......
@@thedude8457 I think it's the other kind of smash.. you know, the sexy kind.
I have my theories based on one particular fad of 2013-ish, but I'll keep my speculations to myself.
@@TheLetterTen, dude weak.
Childhood trauma
Honestly this is the funniest-and most wholesome-thing on the internet. "Big Hollywood director" making free Blender tutorials on UA-cam.
Love it so much. Also Animation Nodes have been haunting my nightmares, so thanks for the advice to not fear them!
They’re a director!? I had no idea!
Love how you're always learning new stuff and sharing
That is the Sandberg way
Thank you for sharing this! Working on my first animated short film rn and this might be a lifesaver!
Monkey on the westbound lane. The title of my next album.
Can you imagine being the traffic helicopter that had to report that. LOL
I have to say, I find Blender in general pretty intimidating and pretty non-intuitive. The last CG program I used allowed you to change transparency by sliding a control labeled "transparency." I can't even remember the hoops I have to jump through to get Blender to do that. I was working on an effect for an upcoming project for a month before it became apparent it was easier just to do it with a model. My hat's off to anyone who can figure out how to do CG effects well.
@@xanzuls The problem being that it won't actually be easier to use than it was before, and maybe future versions should consider adding a slider labeled "transparency" and similar other tweaks, like making light able to pass through glass by default, instead of something you have to wire a new circuit board to do.
I thought this was a new YMS video for a second there because of the title
Probably where my brain got it from. Figured I might as well upload shorter videos done for Twitter here too.
Same here 😅
Calling himself ponysmasher wouldn't be too far off for YMS too lol
@@entensushi Are you allowed to be this funny?
@@ponysmasher yeah, upload twitter shorts here too (:
A bit late but I only just found this. Thanks for the shout out and link to my tutorials 😊 I honestly haven't done much in animation nodes lately but this is another great example of how it can get you results quickly thanks to the power of simple loops 👍
I wasn't paying attention when I clicked this video and I thought "Hey, this blender tutorial guy sounds like David F Sandberg." Then I realised.
ponysmasher has rejected humanity and embraced monke

Nodes always look intimidating but they can be really powerful. Cool stuff!
It's always a wonderful thing when directors and creators take the time to learn how the other mechanics of a movie function, and possibly incorporate that into their workflow. Everybody wins.
Thanks for sharing. I was unaware of animation nodes. I'm totally going to check these out! My current animations haven't been overly complicated, just spaceships following a path. My most complicated animation is a spaceship with a bunch of robot tentacles moving around like Medusa's hair. I wanted them to animate so they looked like all 50 tentacles were moving differently. I used soft body physics to make them realistically move following one end like moving a rope with one end tied to a wall. I did the blinking Christmas tree light trick where I animate 4 empties and then parent the ends of the 50 tentacles to the empties in a random pattern. Our brains can't see the pattern because there's too many things to look at and the adjacent tentacles move differently. Blender is an amazing tool for filmmakers!
You're one of my favorite filmmaker's out there. Love learning from you!
Bruh... You taught me more in 2 minutes than all the animation nodes Tutorials I’ve been watching lately
been binging ur channel lately, youve become a big inspiration to me. definitely love ur films and the heart and soul you poor into filmaking.
You make things look so easy, and I love that!
it's awesome you're learning and working in Blender. I just finished the #blender52 challenge last year and holy crap I've really come to dig this software! Keep up the awesome work and thanks for sharing the knowledge
Animation nodes is like any node system.
If you take your time reading node per node what it does, it suddenly doesn't seem that complex anymore. It just takes a long ass time to learn all the nodes. Hahaha
i almost forgot this guy was a Hollywood director.
Thanks for this! I didn't even know something like this existed for blender!
Two vids in a single day. Christmas isn't for another 19 days, sir.
love your videos!
This. Is. AWESOME!
I can't believe how much progress can one person achieve in a decade or so :)
Dude this is sweet. Helps a lot
Hey! Now we know what this tutorial was for
it finally works
David F Sandberg, you give the best quickies (and your beard is so cute)
Huge fan, David.
I loved Lights Out and Shazam
Me encantan éstos vídeos y poder aprender algo de alguien que ya lo ha experimentado.
I miss your short films😭 love ur work from India🌞.
I think I've said it before but I love your videos!!!
That outro is amazing
This is very helpful thank you for sharing 👌
Thank You so much 💝
Pony quickies episode 2. The outro was lit tho 🤣
SHAZAM⚡
Unbelievable that Hollywood director is sharing his secrets on a UA-cam channel. Really appreciate the effort you put in here to inspire others.
I immediately went thinking about how can you make this thing more complicated but also more truthful and versatile if the toolset has tracing capabilities... But probably that's my problem, and a one-off detail for the shot doesn't really need this much effort.
This man is all I want to be
My brain turns inwards as soon as I see the node tree!
Saw this on your twitter account!
ty
Blender Gaaang!
nice ! could you maybe do a quick tutorial on how to make that setup ?
lovely outro haha weird asf but lovely
Interesting content, thank you. I wanted to know also on what tutorial I can learn to transform a face from a footage into Blender. Just like you did on lights out? I'm looking for this kind of trick on youtube but I can't find anything in that way. Thank you very much.

David: don't fear animation nodes
Me: *stares at nodes*
Animation nodes: tf you want?
I really want to get into like after effects, fusion, blender, effects and animation just to learn how special effects are done and can be done for my future films. Where can I start? What should I learn first? Any tutorials or youtube how to channels to learn? I kinda just work off of my sub $1000 laptop atm so nothing complicated plz. 🙃
Don't fear the reaper.
can't wait for you to actually smash a pony in 3D animation
Have you checked the geometry node as well? It's getting insanely good.
will the cars teleporting back to the other end of the bridge not cause motion blur artefacts whizzing across the screen when you finally render with a path tracer?
Correct me if I'm wrong, but if the teleport happens between two keyframes then there should be no in-betweens and thus no motion blur
How did you learn blender? Was it self taught or did you learn from elsewhere?
I'm getting started off by self teaching. Whilst I can do some basic things, other things scare me just by looking at them and I have no idea how or where to learn that
What would you recommend as beginner tutorials for Blender? How did you begin to learn it?
I love it, but I dnt know if it will continue to be developed in future. I mean wt if I study a lot and learn it and in the next versions there be no AN. wt do u think?
Man how did you casted shadows on door in shadowed and made them silhouette!!!!!
I watch and think, yeah i could do this too then, then see the node tree and thing, "Nup, f*ck that!"
This looks a lot like the mackinac bridge.
Please make more videos about animation nodes
Wow that is really cool your a awesome film maker I live in Garden Grove California I would like to meet you one day I am 47 and film making is my passion what tips could you give me?
All cars move by same speed, will be easy to adjust that with animation node?
How many other Hollywood directors are making blender tutorials?
I really want to be able to do 3D animation. But my brain can't handle the nodes.
didnt know that animation nodes has a dedicated website (description)
*Edit* : Ohhhhwww, got it, since i always used the "Animation + Extra nodes" thing, the only animation nodes aint that interesting to me.
0:21 - 1:22 the setup abilities
Please tell from where we can learn nice blender
I saw the video then I saw channel's name. Pretty surprising
Helping people conquer their own fears since 2000 forever! Thanks!
Where do you go for blender learning? Do you sub to any video learning sites like CG Cookie?
I mostly just search for tutorials here on UA-cam on whatever part I’m trying to learn.
@@ponysmasher Roger that. Thank you for continuing to share your thoughts and knowledge here!
Ist's not complicated... Yeah cool! ...then he shows the node tree...WHAAA!
I saw switch and compare (greaterthan) in geometry nodes update. Can animation nodes do things geometry nodes cant?
lol I fear blender
You use Blender? I use Blender!
the interconnected nodes always scare me :(
where to start??
do the cars have variable velocity?
Not in my setup here but you could certainly do it more advanced if you wanted to.
but I try it and its crash in render in 2.8 so what should I do ?
What about being afraid of blender all together? haha looks real complicated
For me, Blender has actually been the simplest and most intuitive 3D software I've used. Except maybe SketchUp; but I still have no idea how to make complex geometry in that, so maybe not. There's so many great tutorials out there for Blender too. Blenderguru has the now iconic doughnut tutorial, or his more recent chair tutorial which get you started on all the basics.
Some stuff is pretty complicated, or confusing, but there's ALWAYS a tutorial on how to do it.
He's right. As long as you persevere and keep making stuff, you will eventually become comfortable with it and it will seem very easy and intuitive. I can second that blender is simple and intuitive, at least after the 2.8 update
good vid
David: Don't be afraid of nodes.
Me: Okay, I won't. Thanks for the encouragement.
David: *shows node setup*
Me: ಠ_ಠ

How do I become a director apprentice to you??? I want to shadow you!
insane a holywood director uses free software hahahah so dope
Well that software is not just for amateurs anymore.
