This type of DIY content, with all the detail and insight you provide, is what made me a huge fan of your early days at Hoonigan. Super pumped that you have this channel to upload this type of content to. Keep it up!

Yes, 100% agree. I still have fun watching Hoonigan but they've completely left content like this behind. Dan's build series were the main thing I watched Hoonigan for 2-3 years ago. This kind of content rivals channels like mighty car mods for detailed, informative, and personal videos. Thanks for all you do Dan!

  • @Nasonix2

Because of the 10:1 compression ratio make sure you're very conservative on the spark timing if all you have is 91octane. You'll be good with the e85 but the 91pump will need a very conservative spark table for the NB2's compression ratio.
That intercooler looks perfect size for your goals though. The whole kit looks great 👍
Miatas are awesome. Probably the most fun car there is lmao especially for under $1M. XD
Definitely go to a Dyno tuner that's known for miatas. Hopefully someone that knows ahead of time that earlier NA's have lower c/r than NB2's do. :)
Good call on the haltech elite also. That extra knock detection features will go a long way. Haltech elite is such a superior ECU than the megasquirts are. The 4D tuning tables are amazing. You can legitimately have a map that works year round on flexfuel blends with that ecu. Whereas megasquirt just doesn't have enough feature support to do it without changing the tune a bit every season

Solid video, my only additional advice for some is you can do a turbo kit in stages. It helps break up the workload, financial burden of buying it all at once and makes it easy to iron out problems.
You can absolutely put a standalone on the car when it's bone stock. Get it on, running and tuned bone stock. With a good base map on a popular platform you'll learn a lot about street tuning.
Next you can do the fuel system, if your NA tune is good just changing injector data should be 98% the same tune. It will be way overkill for a NA application but big modern injectors will idle perfectly.
Throwing the turbo on after all this is so simple and 70% of the tuning is already done.

Awesome build man, my only advice would be go get another daily. I did the project as a daily for a while but once i started modifying it HEAVILY it became something small every week i had to work on or take care of, the car cannot have any downtime because it was my daily whereas if you have a 2nd car youll never have to deal with that.
Also performance parts are expensive and usually dont last as many miles as standard parts. Tires, bushings, mounts, etc. , if you get another car you can just run oem budget parts and theyll generally last longer because you arent beating on the car. Just a good investment all around bro think on it!

I had a 700+HP B18A1 Integra and I used stage 3 ACT clutches. They were so hard to drive, it was either in or out. I was replacing clutches with each tire replacement because you had to rev it up to about 2,000RPM and hold it there as you let out on the clutch. What didn't help was the fact it was drive by wire so it was really responsive. I was driving a really pissed off horse.
