The thing about each power mod, its multiplied by other power mods. If Intake manifold gives you 8% power increase... then say you add a header that gives you another 8%. But put together they will be more than 16%. Because each power mod is made more efficient by the others. Its like getting a catback without a header. The catback cant flow maximum because the stock header restricts it. Likewise a header cant flow maximum if a stock exhaust restricts it. They both make each other more efficient when combined, giving each part a higher individual power output. if i put the same intake on my car, which already has an exhaust system on it, i may see higher than 8% increase, because he can only get so much air in the combustion chamber when he cannot clear that air as fast via exhaust flow. Personally i think for that reason exhaust should come before intake, so you maximize the flow of spent gases before you maximize the flow of incoming gases... in my mind you would cause inefficient burning of fuel, restricting power and gas mileage, and fouling spark plugs over time

An 8% gain in power is actually very good when you think about it. Other than doing head work, increasing compression, or forced induction, no other mod would give you that.
He already has a Megasquirt in it so I assume it's been tuned or tunes itself enough to actually be receptive to these mods, hence how he was able to just ditch his MAF sensor without much explanation. On a stock ECU it's a toss up whether you gain anything or not, 8% would be a miracle.

Personally i think for that reason exhaust should come before intake, so you maximize the flow of spent gases before you maximize the flow of incoming gases... in my mind you would cause inefficient burning of fuel, restricting power and gas mileage, and fouling spark plugs over time
UA-camrs: this mod will only take 3 to 5 minutes max
7:06 Me: 24 hrs later
Me: 3 days and several cut fingers later
Yeah because most UA-camrs live in California or Florida and don't even know what rust is
Me trying to get 18 year old corroded bushings out of my old shifter assembly so i can install a short shifter.
yeah no shit.. air intake you need to go to ecu to adjust for more air intake.... you won't try unless you need clear air..
Know that feeling all to well
This man is an extremely knowledgeable car mechanic and a welder. Props
Dude this video was perfect. I knew NOTHING about cars and now I'm learning about all the engine parts and how-to's with this channel
I would love to see dyno graphs as you’ve added parts over laid onto each other. Maybe peak numbers aren’t changing a whole lot. But maybe mid range could have bigger noticeable gains
Yes please!
I’m so glad that I’m watching this while
It’s happening not 7 years later, feels like watching a reality show.
Yay, we finally got the before HP #s at the start! That's what I was really wanting to see if there was any difference at the back of my mind.

"Pretty impressed on how this can work for as long as they do when they look so bad" - Me looking in the mirror in the morning.
Make an episode on just porting things, like throttle body, heads, intake.
Won't show any gains in this so no point really.
The intake manifold is sickkkk🤩🤩
the looks alone might be worth it
@@Donut yeah..sice it's getting a tubo on it for sure 😄
@@Donut what's needed for a maf delete?
@@Donut careful when you guys boost it, if you have to change alternators like most of us.
My Kia Alternator 12v post touches the bottom of the first runner when I need to install/remove my belt.
Sounds stupid but its something you have to remember in oh shit moments
I don't own a car but I'm learning so much. Favourite donut day of the week
This series (Money pit) has really captured my attention lately...probably because I'm currently trying to put up my car and can't wait to drive again, but it's fun and rather informative too 😅
I feel like the conclusion of this series should be an engine swap, the ultimate moneypit upgrade
"Follow along on a journey of taking off 25 year old miata parts!"
Me: *looks teary eyed at my 66 AMC Rambler* yeah, me too Zach
laughs in 66 mustang coupe😞 that’s been with 7 other people
You know you're a real car peep when you put your parts on the top of the garbage/recycle can. Love it
Clicked within a minute. Love this show so much
“Don’t worry, we’ll add a turbo later” every episode
Money pit still probably one of the best ones so far and Zach is good at explaining stuff.
"It's all too easy to get wrapped up in the numbers you make and it's honestly not about that." Yep, sounds like something somebody making 120hp would say... lol
This sound like it came from an insecure truck guy 😂 not even tryna hate just read this thought that and saw the pic
Lmao. Spot on. This is exactly what someone who did all that work and spent all that money to gain 3 hp would say. Which is statically within the realm of air temp changes. The other 5 hp is from the megasquirt remapping.
Well it literally isn’t about that right now. If he had already turbo’d the car you’d see huge gains. It’s so he can have more bhp when he does turbo
Hey and my civic sport agree.
@@arthurerby2466 nah, just poking fun. That Comanche is just one of the 5 vehicles I have. I own 2 cars as well so I'm not necessarily just a "truck guy". Also that Comanche probably makes about the same hp as that Miata. 🤣🤣🤣
Always quality videos coming from Donut. I was never one for cars and what was under the hood, but after I started watching HiLow, I was hooked. You guys at Donut have been making it enjoyable for me to educate myself on all things in the motor world. From Up To Speed to Money Pit, I've been able to learn so much and its thanks to you guys. Keep up the good work, and I cant wait to see the turbo install 🤙 #MoPowaBabeh
Get the NB miata IAC valve. It's integrated and doesn't require external piping/hosing. The skunk manifold makes a way bigger difference when turbod.
You know it's a good series when you are wishing you were behind a few weeks, so you had more episodes to watch.
next episode: putting a 5000 hp Proline Racing engine in a Miata. is it worth it?
No
An 8% gain in power is actually very good when you think about it.

Also I noticed the harbor freight garage chair, quality
And Pittsburgh jack
To be totally honest this series has given me respect for Miata drivers. The platform seems to be a blast to drive and fun to mod
who remembers when they told us the price, the pro's and cons, and special take note things about the specific mod?
These moneypit vids are the highlight of my week.
Hearing that the Miata is 25 years old makes me remember my 626 that I wrote off 2 weeks ago. Brakes failed completely. It was my baby took absolute care of it. It was 23 years old too

Properly functional and home built looks better than store bought to me any day. Good job.
car: 2500$, Power: 100HP
Mods: >5000$, Power: 119HP
That's true love right there.
It's not even about making power anymore.
never was. just working on your car and what’s inside is what really matters 😏
So how long is “it’s temporary” for y’all, cause I know darn well it can be a minute for me
I've been running "temporary" breather hoses in my Subaru for 6 months now... just a bunch of random cut hoses i found in my garage....
If it works it is no longer temporary it has become permanent
@@pickcameron those suckers are permanent now haha
A good temporary fix just gets promoted to permanent fix status over time 🤠
Nothing is more permanent than a temporary solution :D
"The first thing is always first." So true.
I've never seen anyone spend so much money to make so little power before. I feel like this is actually an achievement in a weird way haha.
Love how the miata is evolving, a dollar at a time , instead of the more powah baby way...
rich "gibby" your tuner saved me! He is an amazing tuner and saved my wrx from disaster because of a previous owners in experience. Thanks gibby!!!! from utah

Me, seeing myself in the mirror every morning
me too
I love how the Miata still makes less horsepower than the R1 in the driveway!😂
Looks like an R6 to me, so 120 they are the same now 👍 on max power. Power 2 weight is another story 😆
Everytime money pit post their video...suddenly a smile appear on my face...that’s how much money pit mean to me.
Zach: the more air we can get into our engine, the more power we can make...
The Donut community as a whole: TURBO IT ALREADY! 🤣
At this point, I've learned that its cheaper to swap.
What are you gonna swap in for cheaper than a turbo kit?
Fiiisho a turbo motor
swap in a rotary motor in thare that wuld be epic lots of POWER low weight ok the rotary dosent have much torque but the miata isnt heavy its the engine mazda shuld have put in thare in the first place 😆👌
@@gethinjones8992 no, Mazda was gonna go v6. The whole thing with turbos is for torque and rotary swapping is hella expensive
@@yeah9817 ECU, suspension geometry, custom parts, etc. Yeah a turbo motor would be cheaper but the costs of custom parts aint
It would be nice if you showed more of the test drive part. Watching the car improving and your first impressions on the added powa would be all that's missing. Love the show!!
"this thing needs a battery so bad it's annoying" I felt that😭
Lmao Randomly the show becomes a farting contest 🤣🤣
I love how no matter what you do, bolting on power is basically impossible since the engineers do such a great job squeaking everything out of the design. Still fun to do though.
7:40 turns out Zach got most of the airflow from this process
underrated comment
Love the money pit. Can wait to see zach haze eddy some more.
I like how the end of the video is always a justification of why it's not about the number but we all know it is.
I absolutely LOVVVVVEEEE DONUT MEADIA they taught me so much and I’m still learning bc I really love cars and want to learn more about the engines but shout out to all the guys that run this channel but I was so dead when he said “ And I’m on my last nut” I lost it but I’m surprised he ain’t try to cover it up or make a funny joke out of it 😭😭😭😭😭❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
