I put an order in for a 2023 a few months ago and its supposed to arrive at the end of March/early April. Not sure why BMW decided to change things that simply ... did not need to be changed.
@@AllenBMWDurham I think it’s just the better choice as there’s really no other difference and a new 2023 will run you $60k+ when you can get a used 2022 for at least $10k cheaper barely any mileage

Excellent review. My only real dislike is the removal of the side shifter. I’m not crazy about that little lever. As a bmw driver I’ve always enjoyed that shifter ( pseudo manual to auto).
Thank you for watching! Honestly I love everything about my 2023 M240i and I loved everything about my 2022 as well, the shifter would be nice if I could shift from there but in reality I would gladly replace it all with a 6 speed lol
@@AllenBMWDurham Allan why did BMW remove the dual shifter? I was very surprised when I saw the new lineup of BMWs in the display floor of the dealership I take my car
I really don’t get why they removed the storage to the left of the steering wheel. Beemers have had that forever. I will miss that. Also I don’t get for the life of me why we can’t’ get ventilated seats in a $60K car. I live in south Florida and miss it. Agree 100% about adaptive button. I have had an M340 with it for 3 years and its useless. I will not miss that. Does it have augmented reality in BMW Nav? I always loved idrive 7 but when you got back to it after shopping idrive 8 it looks down right archaic.
Thank you for watching! I honestly wish they didn't remove the storage too, I had a use for it! lol Ventilated seats are an option for 5/X5 and up, just like soft close doors etc. iDrive8 in 2 series and 3 series does not have AR nav. X1, X7, 7, iX have it and likely MY24 X5/X6
Just took delivery of my M240 xdrive 2 weeks ago here in the UK. Here’s a couple of differences. M Sports seats are standard as is leather. Bolster adjustment comes with the memory seats. Privacy glass is also standard. I didn’t upgrade the wheels from 19” (792) to 19” (893) because I felt I was being ripped off. They wanted $1300usd/$1700candian to just give me the same size alloy wheel but just a different style with Michelin tyres instead of Pirelli PZero’s. wtf Is that about? That said I love this car. A great daily driver and a head turner in Thundernight metallic. Thanks for the upload. 👍👌🏴🇬🇧
Thank you for watching and congratulations on your M240i! We don't have the M Sport seats at all in Canada, the 19" 893M wheels should also come with the over fenders if thats a thing in your market. The PZero's are good, Michelin's a little stickier
Hi Allen thanks for this video I was wondering does this vehicle come with Lane Keep Assist? The standard features says it has Lane Deviation Warning. What's the difference? I love the Lane Keep Assist on my Honda that automatically keeps me centered in the lane. It's great for long road trips. Please advise and thanks again for your informative videos.
The car has Lane Departure warning so if you depart from your lane at speeds above 70km/h the steering wheel will vibrate and with steering intervention it will bring you back to your lane
Hey Allen, what tires are you using during the winter? I know those wheels come with the Michelin PS's and they're a definite summer tire. Would love suggestions as I ordered my car with the ZTK package as well and I deal with all four seasons where I live. Thanks so much! Any input would be appreciated :)
Thank you for watching! I went the budget route and got non-runflat winters mounted on my stock wheels from a local tire shop to save money. If you can afford it, it would be best to have a dedicated winter wheel set. I can't afford it lol
What is the fuel consumption , i saw 14.5 liters/ 100 km? Also could you make a comparison for Harman Kardon with idrive8 vs old one. The spec is the same 464w but i heard the one in Idrive8 (Lci) sounds better?thanks

You need to connect to android auto and have the instrument cluster set to the map view. Go on android auto and select google maps, select a destination and hit go. Once you begin navigating, google maps will appear in the instrument cluster. iPhone does Apple maps for apple carplay
Why did you sell the 2022? I have the same spec 2022 you sold, I would never make the swap. I got one of the last 2022 made in june, although I had ordered in January with an immediate allocation.

Sensatec is virtually unbreakable and lasts into the next millennia. My moms sensatec ‘11 328i still looks like new. If you’re gonna be one of those guys who is gonna treat your car like shit and neglect it, I wouldn’t buy the leather. You gotta maintain it if you wanna have a nice finish. I’ve already seen ‘22 models that look like sh!t and greasy because the owners didn’t properly clean them
I also find sensatec more comfortable. The only benefit to leather is saying you have real leather, and that iconic smell it has when it’s clean. Leather naturally has certain creases in it and it gives the seat more character. If you just want a daily to beat on, don’t option the leather
I have a ‘23 m240i. Not crazy about the touch screen. As an android user do you have any issues with gps drift when using Google maps or waze? I have an iPhone via Apple CarPlay and am experiencing this constantly where my pinpointed location is off by several hundred metres. I tried bringing up with my dealer but got brushed off but it appears to be a big issue in online forums. Hoping for a fix from BMW.
With Android for the most part pretty good, other issues with Spotify from time to time but i've only experience GPS drift once and that was in my 2022, I like how iDrive8 looks but it doesn't look like what you would typically find in a car
I own a 2022 M240i, so I know the car quite well. Altogether, lots of savings for BMW (Gear knob, USB, illumination, even bag hangers...). Idrive 8 looks less intuitive vs ID7; design is painfully complicated still delivering less info. What a pity...
Thank you for watching! I am enjoying iDrive8 and in terms of how it operates it is better than iDrive7 and graphically looks great but there was nothing wrong with iDrive7. However, I'm more in tune with how the car drives and it still drives amazing so I will likely get another one when my lease ends towards the end of the year, unless UA-cam affords me M2
from 2022 to 2023 you gained some ambient light on the dash or ///M colours on the dash if you have ///M illuminated highlighters, however the light in the door water bottle area has been removed
does the "new" 240i still have the "old" key or does it have the brand new key, which also is given with i7 and g87 (and all the other newer cars). Just was curious, got the g30 now and just ordered the new 240i. I would love the new key tbh.
The G42 M240i comes with the "old" key, not the one that is now with the iX, X1, 7er, X7 LCI. Honestly, I prefer the "old" key since the new key has difficulty putting a key ring on the key lol
@@AllenBMWDurham Thanks for your reply! Yes, i love that old key aswell, i just like new gimmicky stuff. I mean in the end its just a key, and i ordered the comfort access anyway.
Great video! I just bought my 2023 M240i just after Christmas, and I 'am loving it! This is my first BMW and it is not disappointing. I wish the car did have IDrive7 instead just for the simple fact of the shifter. Other than that I like the IDrive8. I have a question though? Did you put the M badges on the fender or is that a package option? I live in the US so thinking maybe because your in Canada its normal and something we didn't get here.
Thank you for watching! The M badges come on all M Performance models in Canada. Honestly, I wouldn't mind if they weren't there but I'm not opposed to them being there either
A great car in a splendid colour. We're getting our BMW 3-series re-painted since we never liked the stock grey. I pick bronze, my wife wants dark green. Maybe we'll compromise on purple?
The new shifter is okay but you just lose the option to shift from the shifter if you ever did but I think the percentage of us who actually did was minimal to none so here is the new shifter
The M340i is slightly more utilitarian with the extra doors and size, however it is just ever so slightly slower than the M240i just based on weight. The M340i also has a few more luxury features such as ambient lighting on the dash, welcome light carpet, power trunk, more paint and leather options but ultimately best bang for your buck in terms of performance per dollar, the M240i is the sweet spot if 2 doors will work for you, plus I love the design way more compared to the 3 series even though I don't dislike the 3 series design
@@AllenBMWDurham thanks so much - very helpful. Is the m340i any more comfortable in terms of suspension on day-to-day driving (esp for front passenger) or they both drive similar and stiff? P.S. I used to own 2021 330i and now looking for something more “special”
It sounds like the 2022 is better. I’m planning on buying one next year but I didn’t know what year to get. Why do you like the 2023 over the 2022? Thank you for the video.
The 2022 does become unique because iDrive7 but since both cars drive exactly the same all the details become quite minor and I do like how iDrive 8 looks graphically
Yes, I do like the look of IDrive 8. I guess my M2 will have it. You are right, the car drives so nice that the changes are minor, really .I love that you got the 50th anniversary roundels.
@@AllenBMWDurham i didn't think it would bother me much, but after using a loaner 2023 the lack of the shifter felt really odd. like it's just missing a place to rest your hand every once in a while. the screen is arguably a nice upgrade, but everything else was better in 2022 imo.
Exactly, I'm only knit picking as I've noticed minor changes, but all in all the car is still excellent to drive and those are all small details that if you didn't already have a 22 you would never know or care
I just hate the newer big ah screens they put in😒 They make sense in the SUVs & 7 maybe even 8 series but in the smaller sportier cars I just hate it, seems like they were trying to be super fancy like Mercedes but the id7 screen just fit so perfect
The reality is, if you never had the 2022 and just go the 2023 it would be the same enjoyable experience and the car still drives phenomenally but since I'm someone who has had both I made this video to consider the differences.
@@AllenBMWDurham yeh it’s pretty unusual circumstances. But things like removing USB for rear passengers is hugely disappointing. Doesn’t bother you of course but it’s a shame to see BMW removing features while car prices are also increasing.
I prefer a gauge cluster over a screen. The screen isn’t even shaded with any type of hold. So often is this thing reflecting the sun into your eyes? What a shame the gauge cluster is one year only in the new body style. (2022)
the moment you upgraded the year to downgrade .. huge gap of nothing between the screens is sh!te too.. then the dash area below that looks proper sketchy ...
Man I thought bmw knew like the rest of the car companies out there…real buttons for heating and cooling! I feel like they just went backwards. That is a serious dealbreaker. The shifter is another issue, exactly like u said, if in manual mode and turning it’s much easier with the shifter but now it’s gone, strike 2
Get a manual m2 if you want a shifter. Also shifting in tight corners is a noob move because it upsets the balance of the car. I don’t see a reason why you would want to do that unless your entry was too slow (skill issue).
You keep trying to convince yourself that you like the 2023 model over the 22. You brought several things that suck on the 23 and just say it’s alright no big deal to each one of them lol
Thank you for watching! Haha, I love my 2023, and all those small things missing don't change the experience of owning a car of this caliber but I'm just pointing them out from a perspective of someone who has lived with both, wish the missing items were still there but don't really care that they're gone either
Very informative video👍🏻 I had a test drive recently in a 2023 M240i Xdrive with the intention of placing an order…….but after noticing the hard, scratchy black plastic interior door panels I’ve decided to look at an alternative. It be is not OK to have such cheap nasty plastic trim in a £55,000 car. No other BMW model has such cheap trim!
Thank you for watching! The car drives amazing and I never touch the door panels so I could careless if they were hard or soft or fur or leather or whatever lol no other BMW model has as low options as a 2 because its at the bottom of the hierarchy of cars
very slightly, but many people who like iDrive 8 will say that outweighs the removal of some things, however if you don't like iDrive8 lol 22 is the clear winner
It kinda feels like they made it worse for no reason. So many small useful things removed and for what? Cause screw the customer? 2022 owners big happy right now cause that new big stupid slapped on screen ruins the interior aesthetic. I don't see why anyone on earth would want to upgrade to essentially an inferior version. Huge drop of the ball BMW. Not to mention the loss of physical buttons. Nobody wants dog through infotainment menus to turn on and off simple functions.

What about the ambient lighting? Is it any different
from 2022 to 2023 you gained some ambient light on the dash or ///M colours on the dash if you have ///M illuminated highlighters, however the light in the door water bottle area has been removed
does the "new" 240i still have the "old" key or does it have the brand new key, which also is given with i7 and g87 (and all the other newer cars).
Hey Allen. Thanks for the awesome video. Is there an actual 2023 m240i model, or just a 2023 production year model?
Thank you for watching! Its just the model year I'm referring to
What’s with the “recharging” ?……this isn’t a hybrid is it?
Thank you for watching! The car has an alternator that recharges the battery, not every car that has one tells you
@@AllenBMWDurham almost every car has an alternator that recharges the battery.
This one was while braking ? Like regenerative braking of some sort ?
It’s standard in all markets aside fro the US. I am so happy about that. There are already too many M badges.
It’s not even a manual why do you need a shifter lmao
@@HaloDude557 personal preference! I don't care for the toggle switch
A great car in a splendid colour. We're getting our BMW 3-series re-painted since we never liked the stock grey. I pick bronze, my wife wants dark green. Maybe we'll compromise on purple?
Do it and send me pics!
Both you and your wife have a good taste
I can’t believe they took the shifter out!!
The new shifter is okay but you just lose the option to shift from the shifter if you ever did but I think the percentage of us who actually did was minimal to none so here is the new shifter
@@AllenBMWDurham I like to keep my hand there, it’s just comfortable.
Hi! How would you say this compares to the m340i?
Thank you for watching! Glad the insight was helpful!
Great review
Thank you for watching!
Is the 2023 model fitted with a mild hybrid system?
Thank you for watching! No it is not, unless you get the diesel model which isn't available in my market
Good job. 2022s seem to be harder to find. Not sure that big screen is what we need in a sports car.
Interesting about the differences. Sometimes they should just leave things as is..lol. But I get it.
2022 gets the slight edge
Agreed
I hate idrive 8. I grabbed a 2023 m440 especially for this reason
I like iDrive7 and iDrive8, but I'm even good with iDrive6 lol
Looks like They also got rid of the M seatbelt for 2023?
Yeah it was an option in M Sport Pro Package in 2022
atleast in germany its still available
THANK YOU good job 👍🏻 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻😉
Thank you for watching!
2022>>>
agree
@@AllenBMWDurham i didn't think it would bother me much, but after using a loaner 2023 the lack of the shifter felt really odd. like it's just missing a place to rest your hand every once in a while. the screen is arguably a nice upgrade, but everything else was better in 2022 imo.
I wish there was an option to turn off auto start / stop PERMANENTLY.🤬
Thank you for watching! I'm in sport so much its pretty much off all the time anyway, and I honestly don't mind it when its on either
I hate it... if you figure out how to turn it off....please
@@exquicorp You can coding it off , but please do not forget ; may coding will avoid warranty in your counrty
2022 all the way...but at the end of the day, all the important mechanical elements are the same.
Exactly, I'm only knit picking as I've noticed minor changes, but all in all the car is still excellent to drive and those are all small details that if you didn't already have a 22 you would never know or care
Just want to point out that is an m240i xDrive, not an m240i. 😉
You right but in Canada there is no such car as a non xDrive M240i so we don't have to say the whole thing to differentiate here
I just hate the newer big ah screens they put in😒 They make sense in the SUVs & 7 maybe even 8 series but in the smaller sportier cars I just hate it, seems like they were trying to be super fancy like Mercedes but the id7 screen just fit so perfect
while the debate between iDrive 7 and iDrive 8 ensues, I personally prefer iDrive 6 lol
I don’t like any of the 2023, that’s just me. I’m more of the classic BMW with bc all the buttons
I'd love to go to an E92 M3 lol
My wife and I said that the shadowline deck lid looked like a sad mustache.
haha, I unfortunately can't even grow a moustache so this is all the moustache I got
Seems you talk more about what BMW has removed! So many areas of cost reduction. Disappointing
@@TheUrbanSplash yeah I understand where you are coming from
I prefer a gauge cluster over a screen. The screen isn’t even shaded with any type of hold. So often is this thing reflecting the sun into your eyes? What a shame the gauge cluster is one year only in the new body style. (2022)
Thank you for watching! To my surprise, I've had 0 issue with screen glare or anything of the sort
the moment you upgraded the year to downgrade .. huge gap of nothing between the screens is sh!te too.. then the dash area below that looks proper sketchy ...
Thank you for watching! Your comment made me laugh
I'd rather have the 2022 gauge cluster. Call me old fashioned.
they are both good
Man I thought bmw knew like the rest of the car companies out there…real buttons for heating and cooling! I feel like they just went backwards. That is a serious dealbreaker. The shifter is another issue, exactly like u said, if in manual mode and turning it’s much easier with the shifter but now it’s gone, strike 2
The car still drives amazing so those are all minor details to me but it definitely makes the 2022 unique as the one year with iDrive7
A lot of cost cutting in the 2023s. SMH
thank you for watching
2022 > 2023 to avoid the subscription system in the future. Not a lot of people know this.
iDrive7 also has a subscription service....
@@AllenBMWDurham It's the physical buttons.
Very informative video👍🏻
I had a test drive recently in a 2023 M240i Xdrive with the intention of placing an order…….but after noticing the hard, scratchy black plastic interior door panels I’ve decided to look at an alternative.
The old dash is way better in my view. The new dashes are a big failure.
I like both, if you gave me either I'd be okay
I cancelled my order when I finally saw that giant screen in my face. It's just so awful looking, like aesthetics is not a thing at BMW anymore.
The screen has been fine so far, the drive is what its all about
so basically get a 22 with 23 screen
If you like iDrive8 just get the 23 lol
@Allen BMWDurham I kinda wish didn't see this video that they removed stufd
@@thegarbear05 sorry bro lol
That is a downgrade for sure!
very slightly, but many people who like iDrive 8 will say that outweighs the removal of some things, however if you don't like iDrive8 lol 22 is the clear winner
Climate control buttons are a deal breaker! Stop putting everything in the touchscreen!!!
Why the same model only a year apart? You got deep pockets lad?
my work employee program is only 1 year at a time, I'd love to keep one car for 4 years, but 1 years makes for more youtube content atleast
Thank you for watching! After living with it for a while its not bad at all, its great, however nothing wrong with iDrive7 either
Looks like less for more to me.
thank you for watching
