Picking mine up shortly from Worcester BMW!!! 18 months old with M Sport Pro, Tech Pack high, comfort, sunroof and the full LCD screen etc. Cannot wait and heading straight out to brecon for a drive.
Hi Pete, I had one for a few hours and as an M2 Comp owner my thoughts as follows; 1. On a typical B road in perfect conditions the M240i would keep an M2C honest (ie there would be nothing in it). If those perfect conditions change, say a little damp or more bumpy the M240i will be ahead and the M2C driver getting slightly sweaty! 2. The interior, whilst not to my taste (the dials) makes the M2C feel like an older generation 3. The quality of materials on the touch points is higher 4. The grip inspires confidence (potentially over confidence) 5. The looks are, different but in typical BMW fashion will probably grow in acceptance. So why didn’t / haven’t I made the change? It’s the sensory experience of the M2C. There is an edge to it which keeps you fully awake. You can get in that M240i and drive at real pace with limited time behind the wheel such is the quality of the systems supporting the driver, take those liberties in an M2C and you’ll likely be in a hedge! As you say I can’t imagine what the new M2 will be like! Now just one problem, after driving the M240i I was in a used 981 GT4 the following week - whilst that’s a tale for another time it really brings home the difference between a very fast coupe and a sports car in terms of sensory experience! All the best Pete tho next time tease Joe Achilles about the tyres😂. All the best, Kevin.
I agree!. Coming from an m340i I couldnt feel It so sporty car as the m2c. The m240i should be a bit more agile but again as Kevin stated is a different experience. I noticed some m2c owners trading their cars for the new m240i. It has all to do on how they drive and what they are looking for. Let’s see how will be the new m2. But for the price I would be cross shopping other brands o as well.

Bargain of the century in terms of the performance and creature comforts for the money. The fact that BMW could have just produced a hot fwd M240i but didn't is to be applauded. I like the 2 series coupé and the M240i will definitely be on my list of cars to look at when the lease on the i30N comes to an end. Great review Ped.
Loved the review! Great that you had a chance to put some miles on it and experience how versatile and comfortable it is for a road trip. I agree it’s well-priced vs the competition, the way it drives and sounds and the interior quality are all fantastic. Following a demo a month ago have ordered one. I can’t imagine how quick M2 will be but tbh it’s likely to be a bit too hardcore for me (not to mention expensive!) Styling… well it’s one of those cars which looks so much better in the metal than in photos!
@@stevehs4287 It’s definitely on another level, I’m still amazed! The car looks amazing “in the flesh”, much better than on photos. Same goes for the sound. It already sounds good on video, but in real life it’s even better (inside and outside). Starting this B58 is an experience on its own. My M135i almost sounded like a hybrid after driving the M240i (maybe I’m exaggerating a bit here lol). Unfortunately I couldn’t really test the handling because I didn’t have enough time to go to a proper road… One big difference is the gearbox. It’s much smoother and sharper than the Aisin (which is already not bad). I could definitely notice the difference in gearshift speed. The gearshifts on the M135i are fast, but with the ZF it’s practically instantaneous. If you are interested in one, the best is to find a way to test-drive one and feel it. It makes a huge difference. Oh, and don’t bother testing a 340i or a 440i, it won’t feel the same. I test-drove a 440i back in February and I was underwhelmed. Same 0-60 as a Ferrari FF for half the price of a 10yo FF. Similar real-world 0-60 as a base 911 for about half the price, but this is AWD. Much quieter cabin than a 911, too. I like the looks. The rear end isn't its greatest feature, but it's not offensive, IMO. And the 992 911 also has a rear end that many consider awkward. Personally, I also rather like this dark purple colour. Great straight-six engine. Very practical for its format. It's no more intended to be a family car than a 911, but still it's more practical. Also, as so many claim the 911 has too much cabin noise for daily use, this would make a better daily performance car. As for this versus the upcoming new full monty M2 and even more hardcore variants: this is already more than powerful enough for the road. So, if not interested in the track, look no further; this is the one. And, FWIW, I fully-optioned one of these for 52-53K. First off great video and I always love when both you and Mrs G are in the video. It’s cool to get her input to. 2nd I’d have to say the 240i is a looker. But the 240i is more like that girl who’s easy on the eyes but not everyone’s first choice. But once she’s with someone then everyone wants her.(hope that makes sense) I think this car looks way better then the m3 or m4. The rear end isn’t terrible in my opinion but definitely not the best. 3rd I think the color is cool. Maybe not my first choice. Definitely reminds me of the crazy colors old and now newer muscle cars get. All around Sir Pete this is a bmw I’d consider getting if I didn’t have my z28 camaro, which I finally got back from the shop! She’s running strong! Just have to do a full detail and add my sticker!
For 95% of people looking for a fast, comfortable, entertaining, practical sports car, this is it.....the other 5% would probably be looking at the M2.
I’ve seen plenty of reviews on the performance but would be interested to know what the predicted range was on eco pro/ what mpg you achieved on the trip ? Thanks for the video 👍
I have a North American model, but I am averaging 24.5 mpg on Shell 93 Octane with about 40% of driving spent in Sport + and the rest in comfort. Hope that helps ya!
Thank you for a great video and review. This maybe the one to tempt me away from a cycle of 3 and 4 series. They have developed a car to appeal to a market. Much credit to BMW marketing to have courage to develop a small fast compact coupe.
Starting to come around to the looks although triangular front grills and wide set stubby tail lights still jar (Maybe an LCI fix in a couple of years?!) - blue , black or thunder night to soften the looks for me until then. Can’t imagine a better combination of size, engine performance, exhaust note and chassis though - Shame I need the practicality of 4 seats currently. Another great video Pete/Mrs Pete
I like it alot , more aggressive looking than the old one which I have . Ped what exhaust would you put on and would you change your mini for one as a daily ?
Great review. Think I'd put up with it's backside for the performance! Might set my sights on a used one in a couple of years time. Keep the wonderful B58 that my M140i has. Thanks Pete 👍
Great video thanks! The damn thing has had a facelift already 😱 The option packs are now all different, and it gets the new 3 series mega-screen dash with OS8 (as it’s based on that) I sent my order in last night. First auto for me 🤓 Do you think BMW will get an M140i.2 on their press fleet?
I'm still waiting for mine. I ordered it 8 months ago. Mid August, I hope. I can't wait. You would not believe what I'm trading in for the 240 so I won't tell you. Loved the dogs, as well. Thank you. Dana Rushton - Australia
Great, balanced review Ped... I'm seriously thinking of swapping my Golf R, 7.5 for one of these. I've not seen a bad review yet... I also much prefer the subtle dash in this earlier version compared to the 2023/24 massive landscape ipad-type affair. Looks like a great all-rounder.
Got a F22 version and love that , can’t wait to get my hands on this version , think it looks and sounds awesome especially in that bling purple. Cracking review and video as usual PP 👌
With hindsight I think I may have seen you out and about. Was on the road down to CASS and you pulled into a gateway. Very nearly turned round and was going to ask whoever was driving what they thought, as this is on my radar for next car. Was coming back from the circuit having watched some of the Spring Sprint.
Great video! Really like the filming and editing! As for the car, I mean in my personal opinion it's pretty horrid visualy..a huge dissappointment.. But it's a great piece of engineering no doubt and I can imagine it's great fun to drive!
Been looking at one of these as a second car to have a bit of fun with but £50k is crazy. Other than that it ticks all the boxes for me. Nice review and glad Mrs PP enjoyed it.
Car prices as a whole are on the rise - a Golf R starts from £40k now . I think in the current market the M240i is a bit of a bargain for what you get .
@@stevehs4287 The issue is by the time you work out the monthly payments on it, what else could you get for not much more? But you are right cars generally are getting properly expensive now. Two years ago I bought a 6 month old BMW 6GT for £30k, I am now getting offers for more than that to buy it back!
Always had a soft spot for a BMW coupe, owned various 3 Series ones for 13 years! I think the 2 Series may have taken over from the old 3 series. Enjoyed the video 👍
Great car, really like the new styling front and back. I test drove the 230 2 wheel drive, didn't want to bring it back to the dealer. I'll probably pull the trigger and buy one not sure if I can afford the 240 but I'll see what happens
I think the back is an improvement, especially when the lights are on. Side by side it looks a generation newer. My reservations with the car is the sculptured area in front of the lights and I would have preferred the grill to be more boxy on the outer edge, but they're saving that for the M2.
@@siviter interesting, but the last model had the classic signature looks everyone recognizes when they see a BMW badge! This new one has a JDM appearance now, and would be unrecognizable without a badge on each end of the car imo!
@@germanengineering204 yes I suppose so, but every BMW is different from one another now. I'm not really into the Russian doll effect like Mercedes and Audi do.
I think im getting to the age where i need a large fast saloon car as my old Colt Ralliart hot hatch is literally giving me arthritis LOL , great for track days or street circuits but on long journeys my arms are stuck in the steering position for 3 days after so yeah new car time me thinks lol
Great review. Just bought this in the same colour.....18 months lead-time however sigh! I currently have the M235i Gran Coupe which is pretty horrible after the M140i, so I cant wait to drive a car that is rear wheel biased and sounds pretty good as a 6 should! My 18 year old will just have to have his legs shortened for his time in the back!
I’m not a Beemer lover, but they do produce some stunning looking and performing cars of course. Shame the colour isn’t deeper still, looked a bit too purple for me. The back end, reminds me a bit of an Alfa Guilia 🤔
I would get the 240M non-Xdrive if they offer it. I had the old 235M 2-wheel drive; it was great. You lose the fun with X-drive. Too bad no more manual transmission.
Great car. We have one. Just keeps on giving. Only problem I have with your otherwise good review is reference to 4WD. It’s AWD which is quite different.
Excellent vid Ped!! Love the family aspect with the boss and the children!! 😉 Seriously nice to see a wider opinion!! 🙂 Really was thinking about buying this car… but as you say possibly a brilliant 2nd car… for us crazy boys… damn.. just bought a mini electric L3 for the wife as our second car… which frankly is absolutely fantastic.. our main car though is a Bmw g21 touring 330d xdrive which is brilliant too and manages to fit most of the family for long road trips.. so I suppose better just be happy with what we’ve got!! 😉 I am happy but love your content too!! 😊 Best regards
Had to read up on what "manual mode" was because for a brief instant I hoped it was actually manual. If the M series I considered had the grill from this car I wouldn't have ended up with a Clubman (and yes I get strange looks when I tell people I passed on that car because I hated the grill so much).
Great review for a great car. BMW still build the best sports coupes as shown in this video with beautiful engines and handling to match. It would be my choice over the 440i and better value.

Don’t I know it 😜😂😂
I bought my new M240 in March 2024 in thundernight. Apart from a sunroof it has everything and I have had so many compliments on it. The performance is great and it looks much better than the M2 and was £16k cheaper. Well happy tbh.
Nice, I'm getting mine this month. What MPG do you get in the real world? Stated figures never seem to be accurate
@@rs22296 hi mate. I’m getting 30 mpg which is mixed type traffic. If you doing all motorway miles it will be nearer 40. You’ll love the car.
@@Acanofbeer Thanks for the reply, 30mpg mixed is pretty good, I get about 41 from a 420d at the moment, so sacrificing 10mpg for a proper engine seems well worth it
@@rs22296 definitely. I drive it in comfort mode nearly all the time. What colour and spec did u order?
@@Acanofbeer I found a brand new one that was already built so didn't get to factory order, its Black Sapphire with the extended gloss black contents, only add ons are comfort pack and H/K audio. I don't think there's much else i need to be honest
Indeed 👍
Problem is the M2 looks horrendous, I went for the 240i just for the looks
Also those who want a manual are in that 5%
That is some car, sound great drive well for any trip and has the turn of speed to get you into major trouble, great review!!
Thanks 👍
cheers for the video. i ordered one 2 weeks ago. cant wait!
Congrats 👍
I have said many times before, BMW and Audi have some cracking everyday cars. 👍
That put a smile on your face! Love it. I'd have one.
Sure did 👍
I was torn between this or an m2 comp. Just put a deposit for an m2 but it might have been the m240i had the wait times been much shorter.
@@desuprpikle can you convert to UK mpg!?
@@desuprpikle
Thanks Dusty , much appreciated 👍

@@stevehs4287 that's just incredible from such a powerful car. Wow!
Thank you for a great video and review.
This maybe the one to tempt me away from a cycle of 3 and 4 series.
They have developed a car to appeal to a market.
Much credit to BMW marketing to have courage to develop a small fast compact coupe.
👍
Starting to come around to the looks although triangular front grills and wide set stubby tail lights still jar (Maybe an LCI fix in a couple of years?!) - blue , black or thunder night to soften the looks for me until then. Can’t imagine a better combination of size, engine performance, exhaust note and chassis though - Shame I need the practicality of 4 seats currently. Another great video Pete/Mrs Pete
I like it alot , more aggressive looking than the old one which I have . Ped what exhaust would you put on and would you change your mini for one as a daily ?
Not sure what the options are 😬😂
Great review. Think I'd put up with it's backside for the performance! Might set my sights on a used one in a couple of years time. Keep the wonderful B58 that my M140i has. Thanks Pete 👍
Love the car and the colour. If i have any gripes at all its fake diffusers. They go to the lengths of putting a fake in why not make it do something
Great video thanks!
The damn thing has had a facelift already 😱
The option packs are now all different, and it gets the new 3 series mega-screen dash with OS8 (as it’s based on that)
I sent my order in last night. First auto for me 🤓
Do you think BMW will get an M140i.2 on their press fleet?
I'm still waiting for mine. I ordered it 8 months ago. Mid August, I hope. I can't wait. You would not believe what I'm trading in for the 240 so I won't tell you. Loved the dogs, as well. Thank you. Dana Rushton - Australia
😜👍
Great, balanced review Ped... I'm seriously thinking of swapping my Golf R, 7.5 for one of these. I've not seen a bad review yet... I also much prefer the subtle dash in this earlier version compared to the 2023/24 massive landscape ipad-type affair. Looks like a great all-rounder.
Thanks 🙏🏻
For some reason teh rear reminds me a bit of a holden monaro. Will it grow on me. i'll wait to see it in person.
3.7 seconds, that is amazing. Still want an M2 though.
😂😂😂
I now have seen the car so much I can't remember why I didn't like the rear end. I love the whole car. Think I will buy one.
What’s it like on fuel ?
Very nice, I’ve got a 220i on order for June delivery - maybe not a powerful as the 240 but should be fun nonetheless.
It sure will be 👍
can you do a video on the vbox set up please. Who is it for, why you might want to have one, etc, thanks
Yep. That’s a great idea 👍
Love mine, but when I really want to have fun, I go to my Boxster GTS!
Excellent all round review guys 👏 Also Ped, you genuinely look ten years younger and very "fit", that hard work is really paying off 🙌
No mention of pilot 4s's ?
Thanks mate. That is very kind of you to say. Finally that makes me your age 😜😂
Got a F22 version and love that , can’t wait to get my hands on this version , think it looks and sounds awesome especially in that bling purple. Cracking review and video as usual PP 👌
Thanks Dave 👊
With hindsight I think I may have seen you out and about. Was on the road down to CASS and you pulled into a gateway. Very nearly turned round and was going to ask whoever was driving what they thought, as this is on my radar for next car. Was coming back from the circuit having watched some of the Spring Sprint.
Yep. That would have been me 😜😂
Quick question please Pete.. m240i or TTrs ?? Eagerly waiting your advice. Thanks.
Blimey. Both great cars but TTRS for me 👍
Great video! Really like the filming and editing! As for the car, I mean in my personal opinion it's pretty horrid visualy..a huge dissappointment.. But it's a great piece of engineering no doubt and I can imagine it's great fun to drive!
Thanks. Glad you enjoyed it 👍
just got mine today and must say im glad i cancelled the merc a45s order! motech performance hear i come!
Say hi to Mike for me 👍
Wonderful car. Wonderful video.
Thanks 🙏🏻
Is the m240i rwd worth it? Here in chile the 2024 only comes in rwd.
I need this with manual transmission.
Thanks 👍
Great car, really like the new styling front and back. I test drove the 230 2 wheel drive, didn't want to bring it back to the dealer. I'll probably pull the trigger and buy one not sure if I can afford the 240 but I'll see what happens
Also the one that test drove was in thunder night, that's a perfect color for that car
Did you end up purchasing one? The 230inis actually a couple hundred pounds lighter than the m240i
Great engine and gearbox plus four wheel drive equals great performance love that colour but not the styling the rear just looks odd.
Yep 👍
I love mine. 2022 model, in Thunder night.
I love the rear. 👍👍
I enjoyed watching the Video Review. I actually like the style and design particularly the Interior. The Model Is more designed for a couple
I think the back is an improvement, especially when the lights are on. Side by side it looks a generation newer. My reservations with the car is the sculptured area in front of the lights and I would have preferred the grill to be more boxy on the outer edge, but they're saving that for the M2.
Improvement over what?
@@germanengineering204 the outgoing model.
@@siviter Would of been nice if they used the new M3 taillights instead!
Hi I am looking to buy a new m240i or a 6 month old Audi S5 coupe vorsprung which one would you go for can not make my mind up
Great video 😎
Thanks 😁
I think im getting to the age where i need a large fast saloon car as my old Colt Ralliart hot hatch is literally giving me arthritis LOL , great for track days or street circuits but on long journeys my arms are stuck in the steering position for 3 days after so yeah new car time me thinks lol
Morning pal, back playing catch up, just got back from that Worksop run, which ya know about lol wink fist bump! Love this colour, wow.
Loved the Purple People Eater👍
👍
Great review. Just bought this in the same colour.....18 months lead-time however sigh! I currently have the M235i Gran Coupe which is pretty horrible after the M140i, so I cant wait to drive a car that is rear wheel biased and sounds pretty good as a 6 should! My 18 year old will just have to have his legs shortened for his time in the back!
18 months to get one built? That’s insane. Have they reduced that time now?
What was the average mpg in eco mode ?
Evening All! Hope everyone has a lovely weekend and those F1 fans enjoy the sprint and GP.
Can’t wait for the F1 👍
@@PetrolPed If quali is anything to go by it should be a fantastic weekend.
Hi Francois hope you have a great weekend as well! I’ll get to drive my z28 camaro this weekend so it will be a good one!
I’m not a Beemer lover, but they do produce some stunning looking and performing cars of course.
Shame the colour isn’t deeper still, looked a bit too purple for me.
The back end, reminds me a bit of an Alfa Guilia 🤔
Can’t beat a bit of Deep Purple 🎸
@@PetrolPed 🤦🏼♂️ #cheesy
I would get the 240M non-Xdrive if they offer it. I had the old 235M 2-wheel drive; it was great. You lose the fun with X-drive. Too bad no more manual transmission.
You should show the under floor boot space on BMWs, since they usually have a huge space.
Great car. We have one. Just keeps on giving. Only problem I have with your otherwise good review is reference to 4WD. It’s AWD which is quite different.
A touch pedantic but glad you enjoyed the vid 😂👍
Always like to get Mrs PP on if I can 😜👍
What a car 💜💜
And you guys make it even better 😳
@@PetrolPed 😮😮
Had to read up on what "manual mode" was because for a brief instant I hoped it was actually manual. If the M series I considered had the grill from this car I wouldn't have ended up with a Clubman (and yes I get strange looks when I tell people I passed on that car because I hated the grill so much).
👍
Awesome vlog ped keep them coming 👍👍
Hi Pete nice video can you tell me what breed are the dogs many thanks.
Hi Keith. They are Miniature Schnauzers :-)
Whats the car tax for that..coming back to the UK this year n asking
Great review for a great car. BMW still build the best sports coupes as shown in this video with beautiful engines and handling to match. It would be my choice over the 440i and better value.
You or Mrs Petrol Ped should have given us an example of her 10-rated car. That’d have given us a tangible comparison.
It does sound good Pete ! Colour not my style but that being said it’s quick mate 👍🏻🍻🇨🇦
Came for the M240, stayed for the schnauzers. Love your dogs!

Wow love it.... having played with our Cooper S in sport mode today.... I like it 😃 , give it to Evolve and get an Eventuri intake 😉
Thanks for the informative video I would like to ask about your opinion to get m240 or m440 if I don’t care about rear seats
Or budget 😜 M440 for sure. Mega car 👍
I love it!!!
Why does the UK get cooler seats with fixed headrest
