George fcc or anytone 6666 ?

    • @390WagonMaster
      @390WagonMaster  8 місяців тому +1

I do not own a 6666, however I'm told by people I know that the 6666 has a noisy receiver, that said the 6666 has way more frequency coverage and more RF power that the George. The George is locked so no Xtra channels, clarifier is locked and less than 1/2 the RF output. That being said, the extras that the 6666 has is no good if you have to fight a noisy receiver.
IDk... I can not give you a honest answer without ME actually comparing them side by side.
      Tough decision my friend.
Hey ANYTONE... send me a radio for review... Hihi as the Hammy Hams say.
      Happy new year.

My AT-6666 has better Rx than my Lincoln 2+ does, (do i love the lincoln 2+) it just seems the quad 6 doesn't pick up as much hash and noise as the president does, now does it compare to my cobra 2000 as far as rx noise and hash? No, ,not really, it's really hard to beat the original cobra side mic 148 gtl /2000gtl, president madison /grey faced grant 3 button or grant XL radios receiver they are pretty much the best rx that uniden made for cobra and president back in the day, my only real gripes with the at-6666 is the power/ volume knob is placed stupidly too close to the mic jack & radios the heat sink gets hot fast if i run the radio at 3/4 to full output even though it's still stock power out of the box, no " power tweak" mods just the the 11 meter conversion was done adding a fan helps with the heat issue if you want to run the radio on the higher end of power output

Excellent review 390, a physical side by side comparison, note the RF section on the President is contained from the rest of the circuit board and the RF section on the Bearcat is wide open.
Iam pretty sure the only way to alter its functionality, one would probably need the master manufactures programming software to get anywhere with the Rig, outside of that, your not going to get anywhere with it, but with all the features at hand, there pretty much isn't a reason to screw with it.😏👍🎙⚡️

Awesome advancement on 980SSB. The 980 is a very nice array of features, and all the lil resistor pots for every lil thing is a nice break from menu kingdomination.
How many peeps took the SSB plunge, and may have moved on but some stay loyal. WX and SSB is a rare combo.
The recieve on President's are always hot stuff, rf gain turned down a bit works wonders, and kicking up s meter reading a bit can make them nice squelch-off tape hiss receivers.
    The 980 had a 4 step rf gain 😥
The loudest pop when squelch threshold is exceeded
And no channel buttons on the mic with the 6 pin plug 😢
Cool truckstop inventory, and the true programmable scan is lux.
Adding the no-cal needed swr meter
    was great work!
These "FCC" division rigs are destined for true truckstop distribution, by being fully legal radios, with so much in one box.
    Good review!

The 980 has been around for about 15 years now, and they are showing up at hamfests for cheap. I got one for $10 a few years ago.
This will force Bearcat to discontinue the current 980 and sell a rebadged version of the President or risk losing the market.
Although by comparison it's pricey, the export George 2 offers all of the features of the FCC model along with the most desirable mods right out of the box.

Great comparison and review, Mike. The 980 has a cordless Bluetooth microphone accessory; does the President or will the accessory work with it?
Does the radio have to be on for the USB port to function?
Considering that the 980 has been around for about 15 years and there are so few mods for it I think that the hobbyists will purchase the European spec radios.
One good thing from this is that you can save the money that you were planning to spend on a "peak and tune" because there's nothing to peak and tune! The FCC has dreamt of tamper-proof radios since 1959, and the technology has been here since the 980.
I suppose that it will take sales away from the 980, because it's the same size, same ergonomics, but more features, so if you're going to be replacing your old 980 the George is the way to go. Use AM for channel 19, SSB to play ham radio, and FM with the privacy options for family and/or business communication.

I'm not usually in favor of the chrome finish and glossy black, maybe it just reminds me of the nightmare Uniden 980SSB and President Grant II, but it turns out that I like the way it looks in person. President did a good job on backlighting controls that need it, and the display is way better than other radios in its class. I'm taking my time reviewing this one, but 1). You're correct. Having the NRC already in the radio there isn't a spectacular reason to go spend $50 on a Digi-Mic --- unless you like the weight and feel of it. 2). I haven't heard a receiver that sounded so good in a legal CB for decades. For the last 25 years (at least) and even with an external speaker, audio was still higher pitched and not as pleasant to listen too as my ham rigs, so we can put that one to bed. I'm multi-tasking, reviewing the George and Radioddity QT-60 and Alinco DX-10, but when anything BUT the George is on the bench, it's the one I'm listening to, and I gave up hoping a CB would sound this good well over a decade ago. The George has several ways to program a channel. If you're a sidebander, it wouldn't hurt to have ch.16LSB in one of those slots. Back in the 23ch. days CH16 was the one we all used for SSB (sometimes 17), but there is a movement to resurrect 16LSB and it's a blast. I have one of those cheap ML-30 amplified loops (not even shaped like a loop. I just put one of those curved question mark-like screws (some call them a cup holder) on the wall, hung the thin wire from it, so it sags like a weird looking egg. Then I plugged the 5v power into it and connected it to my ole Midland 13-880b, which stays "on" 24/7. If you're flipping by 16 it may sound empty, but I've had a half dozen QSOs on 16, just by picking up my microphone and calling CQ. Sorry to sway away from the topic, and I'm looking forward to your follow-up videos - Woody

I think this looks like a "good" radio but it's not what I would want, especialy for mobile. I'd LOVE to see them come out with a simple layout SSB capable radio for mobile use. Something like a Walker but with SSB. Just give me basic controls with SSB so I can reach up and change the channel and not worry about inadvertently pushing one of ten buttons if I hit a bump in the road while I am adjusting the radio. Give me knobs for Channel, Volume, Squelch, Mode, Mic Gain, and Clarifier (maybe RF gain too); a few slide switches for ANL, NB, High Cut; and NOTHING ELSE. NO FLUFF FEATURES, NO EXTRAS.... just a simple radio that works. President, please make a nice, simple, functional SSB capable radio for mobile use. I like the McKinley but it uses too many multi-function buttons.... again bad for mobile, especially in a commercial truck. Great video, thanks for the info.

I'm ok with all things being CB, just wondering if anyone has a comparison to the Lincoln II+ (v.4)? The Lincoln (in my install) has a pretty high noise floor. If this is no better or not that much difference....maybe not worth the change?

I currently do not own a Lincoln II+ so I can't say for sure if the George is better on RX. However I sold a few back in 2019 ( I was a dealer) and the Lincolns I had on my bench were terrible on receive, like you said high noise floor. I also didn't like the receive audio. I think the George FCC is decent on RX and TX is pretty good. The George is not a powerhouse and modulation is limited as with all the new radios. (President) however it sounds good over the air and when used with the DIGIMIKE I get lots of unsolicited compliments on the audio. I wish I could say one way or another.
If you do get a George FCC please tell me what you think of its receiver. Cheers
