I have the same taster. I installed a flat Li Ion cell from a phone that died, it's a 2.4Ah cell. Combined with a boost converter and an ON-OFF switch, it can take months if not years before needing to charge that battery (depending on usage)

This radio has hugely popular in Europe in the early part of the Seventies. There it was sold as the Pony CB-78, manufactured by Kanda Tsushin Kogyo Co. LTD. in Tokyo, Japan. This Midland 13-862B was undoubtedly also manufactured by that same Japanese company, as Midland did not manufacture CB radio's themselves. All Midland CB transceivers were re-branded Japanese radios from various Japanese manufacturers. This Midland 13-862B has exactly the same innards as the Pony CB-78, and the same plastic molded case with the huge speaker. Only the front bezel is done differently for the Midland, with the somewhat strange looking "view from the top" approach. The Pony CB-78 had the more traditional looking front-facing controls and displays. This radio uses a Sanyo LD-3001 thin-film hybrid module as the audio/modulator driver. Almost all Pony transceivers had that. The hybrid circuit is extremely simple with only two transistors and a few resistors. The only reason the manufacturer did that is so that they were able to say that the radio uses "ICs" (it actually said so proudly on the box), so that was purely a marketing gimmick. Problem is, after so many years these hybrid modules often fail. I just repaired a Pony CB-75 base station (same as the Fanon Fanfare 700 in the US) that had this hybrid fail. They can still be bought at eBay though (which I did), but they are not cheap.

NO FRIGGIN WAY, I just bought one of those and received it yesterday. I ordered it to measure some inductors I made for a one tube regenerative receiver Iam building, so far it's very inaccurate for inductance measures. I have a coil with a known value of 300mh I put the coil leads on terminals 1 and 2 and it shows me a measurement of 0.020mh WTF??? Maybe it works ok with transistors, but inductance coils, forget it. I'll stick to a piece of paper and a ✏️.🤣👍

Super cool! I use the same 12v set up with Anderson power poles for everything. What I did which is more expensive but simpler was but rechargeable lithium ion 9v batteries. At some point in going to build this circuit anyways. Looks like a fun project. Thank you for sharing.

Very nice! The 78xx series voltage regulators are great! You can put a 1Nxxxx rectifier between the middle lead to ground and increase the output by .7 volts. The cathode goes to ground. Want to increase the voltage more? Then put one or more in series. Each will add .7 volts to the output. Want even more? Then put a zener diode between the center connector and ground. But the cathode goes to the 78xx I.C. That will boost your output voltage to the zener, plus the value of the 78xx voltage regulator. Just keep in mind that your input voltage must be high enough to support the circuit. You can’t get something for nothing.😊

Very nice! As an extra safety precaution put a 1N400x diode across the 7809. The cathode of the diode (side with the band) goes to the input side and the anode goes to the output side. That will save you from a spark or inrush current taking out the voltage regulator. They are then pretty well impossible to destroy. I buy 2.5 amp 2,000 volt rectifiers very cheap in bulk and keep a nice bunch for such occasions. Btw, I received my teaching degree in Industrial Arts, electronics from Southeast Missouri State University in 1978. I’m an old fart! But my Elmer never finished high school! He knows more about electronics than I will ever know! Degrees are just a piece of paper.

9 VDC is awesome But 5 VDC is even cooler for USB powered stuff. I have noticed lately that I have had to build a lot of 5VDC stuff. I wanted to charge my phones and radios in the trailer so I built some to hard wire built-in permanent stuff.
