So glad they remastered and re-released D64. It revived my interest in not only 5th-gen console Doom but old-school Doom, in general. I'm playing a PC Doom mod combo that features all maps from UD and D2 but with D64 map textures, N64/PSX-esque lighting, Brutal Doom 64 V2.666's gameplay and monsters, a visor HUD for extra immersion, and ofc Hodges' PSX OST (25th anniv. edition). My favorite so far. It's like the PSX and N64 ports combined _and_ pumped with more horror.
Yeah, I thought about getting them recently, but having no multiplayer what so ever killed it for me. I'll stick to playing doom on PC, I prefer it that way anyways. I had hoped, but not expected, that Doom 64 would add multiplayer. With it being a modern port and what not.
Seeing how they have Final Doom (TNT/Plutonia) on the Switch, I wonder how long it'll be before a Master Levels console port gets greenlit. Heck, I still ahve my PC disc of Maximum Doom; 1600 WADs that vary from "actually kind of alright" to "I used the map editor for the first time", put 'em all on there! Considering how far Doom WAD mapmaking has come since then, you gotta see where it all started.

IIRC the reason the game ended up being so dark was because the monitors the devs at midway used were using a different color space, so it showed up fine on their monitors. they didn't realize how dark it was until they showed it to other midway staff on different tvs
I'm surprised Derek hasn't done a Punching Weight vid on Weird things running Doom. There's Doom on a pregnancy test, an LCD billboard, oscilloscope, ATM, car nav screen, and even one that's played by pressing keys on a piano. Doom's been open source since 1999. Get to it, man!

11:02-12:34 as of August 8, 2024, the Unity ports of Doom I + II have recently been delisted from digital storefronts (now that they're selling folks a newly bundled version of these games, courtesy of Nightdive). The Unity ports are still accessible to anyone who already bought them (and the new release is given to users for free).
Another thing worth noting is that Kaiser and his group made sure to make it as accurate as possible, even with the texture filtering that Nintendo 64 uses since they've literally straight up picked up Nintendo 64 and the original game for the research.

I had no idea Doom 1 & 2 were available in Doom Eternal until this! I also found that you can straight up find the WADs for them in the directory for the game under "classicwads", so you can play them on a sourceport like GZDoom or Zandronum. :O In other words, people who are new to Doom (as I'm sure there's a surprising amount with this game's release) can play classic Doom mods without having to buy Doom 1 & 2 separately!
Oh thank god, I wasn't the only moron to run into that soft lock.
Hopefully they fix the softlock.
HOLY CRAP YOU ALSO SOFTLOCKED YOURSELF! I was playing on the hardest mode and that room was brutal, so I had the amazing idea of booking it, picking the red card and jumping out like a cool action hero, and I thought i had picked it up, saved the game, got to the door, had no key, couldn't go back, had to pistol start, big dumb, much idiot.
This is officially my favorite channel ever.
2:51 I got to play DOOM64 thanks to the modding community in my PC and I LOVED IT SO MUCH
"If you want more Uncle Derek talking about Doom, let me know-" Yes, always and forever. You can't talk Doom too much.
Stay consistent & keep on uploading unique content & you'll grow quick on UA-cam! i believe in you fam
Another thing worth noting is that Kaiser and his group made sure to make it as accurate as possible, even with the texture filtering that Nintendo 64 uses since they've literally straight up picked up Nintendo 64 and the original game for the research.
im waiting for the day where it's not derek but they still say "hi im derek it's me derek"
I'd love to hear your thoughts on all these Switch ports of last gen versions of games like NiNoKuni for example. Not a cheap video to make but it'd be fun to see what you uncover there.
Great video guys! Can't wait for the doom 3 ports video!
9:57 yeah.. i found that out the hard way.. I can't believe no one caught that when testing the map. I also couldn't find anything online about it. I ended up leaving that area to try and find some health before grabbing the key.. I was pissed.
I feel like you and Clint from LGR could make some amazing things happen together.
my favorite thing about this unique is the unique content.
Nightdive really put their whole ass into projects. You love to see it.
as far as I know, the addons seem to no longer require a Bethesda login
Very happy to have these considering the announced LRG release for Doom 1-3
we need a punching weight episode about doom 3 ports, nice work
Doom 3 matches the Doom bible, which is about as cannon as it gets.
They should pay Tom Hall if they ever make another Doom game, to write it. Fantastic writer 😊
I'm one of those freaks that plays Doom with free mouse look turned on, so the new ports don't go anything for me, I have owned all the doom games on steam forever, but now, i stick to gzdoom, if it had mouse free look, i wouldn't look back, nice vid, been following for a while, greetings from Ecuador!
I do not know why, but you singing the praise of the Doom 64 Ports just reminds me of Nostalgia Critic reviewing both Sonic Shows(with the modern og doom ports being sonic adventure and the modern doom 64 Ports being sonic sat am)
I like to think the pause after typing "joinho..." was intentional.
yeah i remember you now. we used to talk a lot years back. i watch all your videos. i love your content. i hope you and your family and friends are safe
One of the coolest preorders I've gotten.
Hell yes
It's only 5 bucks. I bought it on my switch regardless of buying the ps4 version.
Did you know Nightdive also handled the Blood rerelease, which also uses the Kex engine?
Kex is a miracle engine, and it’s amazing what the Nightdive team has been able to do with it with these remasters.
Derek, My wife Melissa thinks she saw you or someone who looks like you back in November at Northgate Mall she said to me "Hey It's Derek! it's him Derek!"
Hahaha that could’ve been me! We were there for black friday.
@@StopSkeletonsFromFighting As were we. We were looking for baby clothes.
Doom 1 and 2 are the most played Games on my Switch.
Got also Doom 64 now... Got it on PC with Doom Eternal but... To be able to play Doom in Bed, Sofa or some other Place is unbeateble
Uncle Derek, DEFINITELY talk about Doom again after this. You're the closest thing to a "Doomtuber" that I know of, and the videos that you make about the series are some of my favorite SSFF videos! I can't get enough!
>Bethesda rushed the Doom 25th anniversary ports out the door
Oh, you mean like the Doom Eternal OST? :^)
Dont think you've talked about Doom 2016's switch port yet. Hope to see what your thoughts are on that port and its history when we eventually get Eternal on the switch down the line.
To be honest, I can't even imagine playing some of those later levels with joycon controllers on anything harder than "hurt me plenty". Which I realize that's probably what most people do anyway but replay value is nice. I imagine having motion control aiming would be a must.
Honestly the best sponsorship you could do for Honey is to come up with your own codes and only distribute them through honey
