    Great vid and thanks!
I've owned a 2003 Ranger since new and do all repairs. My one piece of advice.
A week before you plan on doing this R&R, spray the bolts down with Liquid Wrench (or similar) every two days beforehand and drive over some bumpy roads.
Makes things ALOT easier to pop the nuts & blots when the time comes.

I appreciate the information being conveyed, but also how it's presented in a straighforward, clearly spoken manner, with no attempt at comedy or the presenter trying to make himself the centre of attention. So refreshing.

You're the type of mechanic I'd want to work on my truck. So many people just use raw metal to rip the hubcaps off and scratch the hell out off the mags. I appreciate your technique with the taped tool.

I like that you tape the screwdriver blade to prevent damage to the wheel. My OEM lug wrench has rubber on the tip for this purpose.

Thanks for the video guys. I replaced front and rear shocks on my 2008 3.0L Ford Ranger today. Great tip to double up on wrenches to remove the top nut! Mine both snapped off about 3/4 of the way up due to rust swelling. Bottom nuts on the driver side snapped off immediately, but had to ratchet off the passenger side fully. A few taps with a 4lb hammer to the bottom of the shock freed everything well after bolt removal. I cleaned the mount points with brakleen after dismount. The driver shock exploded on me after dismount, but could have been due to twisting during removal. Just a reminder to never point the shock ends towards your face during analysis post-dismount! I also had to Jack up the lower control arm to get the angle right to mount the low-end of the shock. I'm in Canada where rust is a reality of life, so the lower nut on the top part of the shock was 17-18mm, depending on rust swelling (and needed to be hammered on!).

As a point of information, if you have struts and not shocks (struts have springs around them) you cannot access the large nut at the top of the shock to hold it when removing the top nut. It is very difficult to remove this nut since the entire shock will turn and they are usually rusted. Vice Grips sometimes work but it is very difficult.. This is my suggestion: Don't spend hours trying to get this nut off. Get a reciprocating saw with a metal cutting blade and just cut the stud off below the nut. This takes 5-10 minutes and saves much agony and time. You could do it with a hacksaw but it will take a little longer. Work smarter not harder.

All pretty EASY with a brand new lower control arm with PRE loosened shock nuts. For average people this is a hell of a lot HARDER, especially if your truck has over 200k miles running on original shocks.

From my understanding it is possible from the shock contacting the frame from the bushings being worn out

The trouble I had, was there were two different types of shocks. One for coil spring type suspension, and a different one for the torsion bar suspension. I ended up with the wrong pair, and had to go back to get the proper ones.

For 1998 to 2010 upper shock mounting nut should be 30 to 41 ft-lbs. Lower shock mounting nut should be 15 to 21 ft-lbs. For the 2011 year the numbers are 35 ft-lbs for the upper and 18 ft-lbs for the lower.

Be nice if you keep the common sense easy steps out of your vids. If you can't take a tire off, don't work on autos.
