Old Big Mek reviews the 2024 Holiday Battleforce for the Sisters of Battle (Adepta Sororitas), the Penitent Crusader Host, and gives you all the details on it and how to build out an army from there.

When my friends have been looking to get into Warhammer 40K and are considering the Sisters of Battle, each time I have gleefully looked forward to playing my Orks against them. Somewhere along the way, I picked up some unassembled metal models from the army. Many people within the hobby are surprised that metal sisters were ever produced by GW. Most didn't know they have been around that long.

The best thing about this box is that it contains two Trukks and two Killa Kanz!

Heya OBM. I feel kinda mixed about the part of each of these vids where you go over the products that build out the box into an army.
On one hand, it's pretty cool to think of these boxes as part of a whole, staying grounded about the real cost and scope of an army at assorted points levels. And outside of maybe eBay Miniature Rescues, I can't think of another channel that goes in-depth on how available and accessible the models are in the market. It's an uncommon acknowledgment of the practical element of hobbying - regular hobbyists don't get boxes in the mail from GW, and we have to source our kits and bits from somewhere.
On the other hand, a lot of 40K boxes come and go, even ones that have stuck around a little longer than others, and I can feel the tug of "better get all 5 boxes at once or you won't be able to get the ones that make the force 'complete'" that I know just leads me personally to overwhelm and then more boxes living in the ol' Munitorum Closet of Good Intentions.
I don't really have an answer for it. I guess someone who's done their first army or two and is thinking about a second hopefully knows their own limitations and can be responsible for staring at dozens of gray models with a steely gaze and then start eating that elephant a slice at a time. But I foresee a good chunk of people who drop 8 bones on an army they have no experience with will end up putting up a listing on eBay with 1 assembled squad that has 1 painted model, plus a bunch of open boxes that are fully on the sprue.

@robtibbetts890 this is a great conversation! I definitely keep these limitations in mind when giving my advice. I try to stick to boxes that will be available easily for the foreseeable future, like updated Combat Patrols, and discuss boxes that are discounted in the moment. I airways try to be realistic about availability and cost. The premise of the advice is for people who absolutely want this to be their army to give them a road map to follow on building it out to maximize their hobby per dollar. It is definitely not a sales pitch for everyone to buy every kit on FOMO. Honestly, this hobby is very expensive and only getting worse, so having a backlog of things to build/paint for those lean times isn't the worst idea.

Sisters as my secondary army, these are limited box deals. You need immolators moreso than Rhinos. I have 1 of each, Penitent does good and uses more Rhinos like 2-3. Triumph in most but not all cases is a massive piece to add in. Vahl is the top leader rn for the army. Seraphim are good and Zephyrim ideally are Army of Faith or Hallowed Martyrs in my opinion. The Jump Pack canoness tho is great but only comes into the Army of Faith Box rn. It’s a mixed bag with some of the boxes.

I think GW has done okay here. Each time they’ve released an army box they’ve been dumped on. But I bought the previous combat patrol, army of faith, imperial agents and now this Battleforce and I have a nice varied army. Just going to change one of the rhinos into a normal one for my blood angels as I think two is enough

I have the old combat patrol, was considering getting this box. But the car decided it needs over £1k in repairs. Might grab the ordo hereticus box and this if i can still find them next month, hereticus is 108 and malleus is 101 quid still, though hereticus is the better box i think.

@@DaRedWunzGoFasta Thanks, it happens when they get holder, it'll be 15 years old next year, so pretty good going generally. Second hand prices combined with the need for a bigger car for my wheelchair being needed means replacement would be far higher than the repair cost. The biggest part of the cost is the immobiliser has gone on the fritz and that apparently requires taking the dash out and sending to a Ford dealer to give fixed, other than that the rest is the usual wear/tear items (a tyre, suspension bushes, a spring, etc).
We both have a huge pile of kits in our piles of fun/shame/despair, so we won't be without models to build either way. Especially as I keep having a habit of going 'ooh, shiny!' at things when they get new releases... who doesn't love dinosaur riding reptiles?

It funny to think that they advertise these as battleforces, but they are just a small portion of a legal army in the actual game. Like spearhead and combat patrol these should be like an army on their own. But who can blame GW for selling it like this when they sell like hot cakes. I hope everyone wanting to buy one will be able to do so.

Looks like GW put poorly selling models together from their less popular detachment. I dont know many Sisters players who run the Penitent detachment. It doesnt look fun and not the best models either. Maybe good for those starting Sisters or at least getting to a 1k-2k point army faster with a discount. The priest really bums me out! Idk why they didnt include a centerpiece like the other battleforces got. They could've easily made the points value better for the box. Imo this box can be skipped. Get the combat patrol whether its your first or second box. Maybe find the codex release box from earlier in the year or perhaps that Agents box. Rhinos are also dirt cheap online too.
