11:13 Fitting the sprues is not an issue here, two years ago they had the exact same knight box, but it also came with the newer sprues! So they 100% can fit them in the box!
they changed them out for the full armiger sprues. the 2022 knight box stuck you with 2 of each, while in the new one, you can have any combination. Which isn't to say the new one is better; it's not.
If you ignore the fact that every single Armiger got an extra sprue in this new box to be buildable as every version, then sure. Maybe learn to read before writing.
Man, I really appreciate your videos. You come across as authentically happy and enjoying the hobby and what you're doing. It's rare these days and I'm a fan. ❤
Regarding the Tau box: The current combat patrol already has a commander with no unit to lead, and now you get a second one in the christmas box. Crisis suits are a pretty important part of every tau army, they are expensive and there has been no way to get them discounted in quite a while (at least if you don't count the 80 second window you had to buy the bearding patrol). I just don't feel like I should double up on all the models in the Christmas box for a mediocre discount, just in case they may show up again, bundled with any of the models I actually still need.
I bought the original CP at the launch of 10th when I was contemplating crossing the Rubicon from KillTeam to big 40k... But it has sat unbuilt and unpainted because the cost of building an army of sweet sweet Mecha just has me not wanting to bother.
yeah its pretty annoying they didnt throw crisis suits in the battleforce or even some stealth suits as the 5th unit. luckily i started back when they had the good start collecting so i need me some commanders haha
I want to get the Knight box. Or at least, I _wanted_ to until GW revealed it'd be nearly 200 fucking euros. For 4 armigers and a gutted Questoris?! I was willing to pay 180 for it, accounting for the sprues missing it was still good value, and a second Questoris could very easily fix whatever the one in the box was missing while also expanding the army. But for 200? I might as well buy them all separately, as that's just outright better value! Edit: Having done some research online, when the Imperial Knight first released it cost 85 quid. This was without all the upgrade sprues that we now have, and perfectly matches the one in the battleforce. Armigers are £57.50 per pair, so £115. Altogether, it's £190. So the box is literally a _-5.26%_ discount.
Not sure about your maths. Questoris is £110, Armigers are £57.50 a box. That's £225. This box is £150, maybe less at a FLGS. It's cheaper to buy this box than assemble the contents new from any FLGS.
@@laurencepenfold you are NOT getting the full Knight in the christmas box. It's missing 2 sprues or 40% of the plastic you get in a full retail kit. So proportionately, it's only worth £66. Which means the box only has £181 value at a laughable 17% discount. Is it a discount, technically. In the same way getting paid to get reamed is a job.
Regarding the T'au Box: It's barely 600 points, depending on what kind of Commander you build it might be 10 points more or less. Other than that, it's probably one of the better deals if you get it at steep a discount from your friendly game store, since the Broadsides especially are stupidly expensive on their own. And depending on what kind of army you are building, especially if it's Retaliation Cadre, you might want 2-3 of all of those models in the box, because they're all just pretty good for their points cost.
By my math it's 535 points (90 + 95 + 160 + 190). It's about the best deal you're going to get for Tau at a little over 2 points per dollar but it's still not great and you're probably going to end up with an extra crisis commander down the line.
Not quite. The Chainbreaker Lance one released two years ago didn't have the options to build all of the Armigers as Helverins or Warglaves. You were limited to two of each. But then you did get all the Knight sprues. So with this box you've traded up a couple of big knight weapon sprues for 4 small armiger weapon sprues. (2 extra of the Helverin and Warglave sprues.) Really not sure that's a better deal tbh.
Their combat patrol is awful after the downgrade, and for these I think a few Gundam boxes are better quality and a lot cheaper. Iirc correctly, the Tau box was very few points.
Technically you could use as salamanders Inner circle become blade guard Knights become assault termies. Chaplain is chaplain. And then you can just say your dark angels if you want to play lion and salamanders if your not. Both armies are green so most won't notice a difference.
I plan to take the dark angels box and kit bash them into grey knights for my grey knight army. Turn the 10 death wing knights into paladins. The 6 inner circle companions into a grey knight kill team. Then turn the lion into kaldor draigo.
Jay I love your videos man! Your general positivity and excitement around the hobby is such a breath of fresh air and it really makes me excited to do my own hobbying
The Tau box could drop the Ghostkeel/Commander for crisis suits/Farsight, getting max options with the CP box. The Necron box doesnt synergize well. A Monolith is the better option over the C'tann or drop the warriors for a combo of lokhust heavies, hexmarks, or immortals/deathmarks. GW combined the least sellable and played units in the Sisters codex, no centerpeice is wild! Maybe itll sell with your logic Jay, haha. The Knights box isnt as bad as people think. You get all the options for the Armigers unlike the last one. Idk why people are pressed about the knight, the Paladin is solid. The DA box is perfect! If I had the extra funds Id be trying my hardest to get it. Good luck to those trying to get it haha
I know the thing that people have been focusing on is that the knight box feels bad because they aren't full kits but the Necron box is supposed to be fore "Hypercrypt Legion" detachments but basically none of the units in the box see play in that detachment.
Still getting the knights box, its great for me specifically(owning no knights at all and I own both a resin and fdm printer so I can print missing items)
Necron Warriors are just Flayed Ones or Deathmarks waiting to happen. Leftover death mark guns from the immortal box or random sharp bits for claw/knife hands and some green stuff skin and your surplus warriors are useful now. I wonder if I could make Triarch Preatorians out of warriors + leftover bits.
I'm brand new to T'au (only have their old Combat Patrol and a Broadside) so this Holiday box seems perfect for me to build up my army, I wish it had Crisis Suits though
Sadly the Tau box is just over 500 points, Tau points are kinda weird, but you're getting the ghostkeel for free. I'm tempted for the Dark Angels one, even though I don't otherwise have any intent on starting space marines.
If the Tau box had come with three regular crisis suits instead of a commander, and a rebalance to the riptide to up it to 250 points with stats to justify it, then it'd be a good box. Hell you could probably get two of them and make it work. But as-is the points are too low and you won't need that many commanders since they already come in the combat patrol.
Ye so I'm actually buying the Tau one. For now I collected ad-mech and I got kinda feed up with the infantry spam you had to do in this army so instead I want to try Tau. Xmas box with combat patrol and a stealth suit kit makes in to pretty good 1k army :3
Your point about getting exactly what you want is super good to point out. I don't play, I just like collecting stuff to paint so boxes like this are just not for me at all
12:52 I found a solution for this! Every squad is a Killteam. I play guard and there's a lot, so it makes sense, but when each guardsman has a role it prevents them from being another guardsman. Plus it fills out my kill teams! Even, and sometimes especially weird ones like blooded or whatever (as long as they have a kinda guard statline) I can get weird with, "why are these guard in particular so violent/organized/stealthy or whatever else that team brings.
My FLGS buys/sells so much GW product that they get at least 50 of any major launch box, 20% discount due to their volume of purchases, and they're only getting single digit boxes for some of these boxes which is insane
I feel like the battle boxes are more about just getting alot of plastic for the Christmas season opposed to getting a great deal. Yes 100 bucks is nice discount but not if you aren’t getting only models you want/need
Man, the 40K boxes don’t really pull me in as you said. The AoS stuff, Maggotkin and Sigmar definitely make me tempted to dip my toe in. But for £150. I’ll give it a miss
@@knightsljx Right, the Titus mini doesn't actually exist after all Maybe shit on companies with things they actually do like their insane price hiking instead of coming up with bullshit
I guess my biggest gripe with a lot of these boxes is how they always have models that are 'one ofs' Like Broadsides you can always have more, yeah Ghostkeep you probably dont want more than one, but the DA Box, well I already have a Lionel so why do I need another? I imagine its the same for the Void Dragon in the Necron box. As getting started boxes, yeah, but for catering to older collectors they would do better having models that you can have more than one of. I would get the DA box, but all the savings go down the drain when Im getting a model I cannot use. So yeah, sisters box looks good. But yeah, as DA, I can always do with more Knights and more ICCs, because more 1st company more good, but Lionel makes it a poop
I was excited to get none of the battleforces this year after going crazy and getting two of the Votann boxes last year. As a Necron collector, I own and have fully built and painted all of the kits in that battleforce and they really need to stop loading warriors into bundle boxes. 💀
That Hypercrypt picture made me do a double take and check the official GW site. Models out of unit coherency feels more noticeable than empty background space.

The necron Christmas box is terrible but the void-dragon as a model is just fantastic. It’s also really funny on the table. I’ve 1v2 knights with him and won.

That's not a lot of points, its 520 or so points... but yeah the Ghostkeel is a great model. And yes you need 2-3 Ghostkeels and if you have a broadside you need 2-3 more minimum. But in general the Tau box is terrible, it's trash.
