I met Matt Smith once, on the set of an episode, and he was SO NICE! He was really busy but he gave up his time for the three of us. He even stopped a business call. That's why he will always be my favourite Doctor.
What episode do u think he was filming
I'm pretty sure it was a Christmas special as were not allowed to take a picture because he had a new outfit.
oh my, Matt sounds like such a sweetheart
not in a weird way though I mean, he's just such a kind soul
Frank Pinson I know his cousin.
This is like ranking your family. It's almost indecent.
4. Mother
3. Brother
2.father
1. Sister
August Inman where is Jodie Whittaker as the 13th Doctor?
Charlotte Taylor she’s too new
@@charlottetaylor8764 even if she had three seasons she'd be at the bottom of this list, for once in doctor who, the writing is bad, and the lead star can't act
@@stewartmair3995 Jodie's acting seems fine to me. I'd say it was as good as any of the other Doctors. I'm not at all clear on why you would say otherwise and at this point I would need you to make an actual case for why you hold that opinion. Maybe name some specific scenes where her acting isn't good, maybe explain what is wrong with it and how it could be improved? Not being snarky, not being contrarian, I just don't see the problem.
Capaldi - he was like an unpredictable mad scientist who was also very funny and lovable...but also scary and very much feared by his enemies.
...Which is a good way to explain DOCTOR WHO to a friend who's never seen it before.
Yes! I loved the somewhat introspective, somewhat angsty and somewhat eccentric atmosphere of his era. It felt very doctor who to me.
Matt Smith’s Doctor is my favorite because while he has a child like wonder and humor he hinted at a darkness inside of him, like when he says “good men don’t need rules, and today is not the day to find out why I have so many,”
I like when he said (and I know I'm messing it up) "If I only told the truth you would never have to trust me." Someone please give me the exact quote.
"YoUvE sWaLlOwEd A pLaNeT"
I think David tennant by far see he was quite good looking young and I love how him and rose actually had something going on and he loved her it was the first time the doctor loved someone and she loved him
Love him, his Doctor felt complete, alien and human. Don't know, my favorite moment is the Ring of Akhaten
@@MarvelousLXVII "If I always told you (Amy) the truth, I wouldn't need you to trust me" - seeing that a second time with its new meaning will always get me.
Capaldi was an amazing doctor in my opinion, and his final moments were by far one of the most impactful scenes in the entire series, to me at least.
Capaldi's Doctor was for me an (if not 'the'l) accomplish version of the Doctor. Unfortunately he got stuck with crappy flat Clara..
@@SchultzDorinda Flat? She has titties and booty.
Are u joking he was shit he’s not a shit actor but didn’t suite the job you obviously haven’t watched the 9th 10th and 11th they were the best
@@ladysilento6028 no, just no. I would rather Capaldi than Eccleston, and Chris is my 4th favourite.
Alexandra Smith everyone has their own opinions, respect them instead of calling him ‘shit’ :)
Eccleston and Billy Piper were wonderful together
I wish he did at least two series
the 9th and rose had a fantastic chemistry sadly that went to shit when rose was with 10 became nothing more than a soppy romantic opra shit rose could have been a good companion without that
animelovers000 what about bad wolf
you havent seen them all ,mate!
yeah I agree
reason is chris had a bad relationship and clashed with someone high up so he left
I think that "I don't want to go" is the best ending for the most humane, most emotional, suffering Doctor. David managed to create something so beautiful that I can't help but wish he'd stayed.
The weird thing was he wasn't even supposed to say anything. Then he ad-libbed "I don't want to go" and it stayed.
It really confused me, he acted as if the regeneration was nothing when he became the doctor but quickly started to care at the end?
Most human? I think you're talking about me
@@caleb7551 nah, I wasn't talking about youtube fakes, thank you.
@@tantalumsophist731 -_-
How can you put 12th doctor so low... His character development was just top, especially in his second and third series...
I agree, that some episodes were meh, but I'd go for about fifth place...
This was 3 years ago
Manel2007 3 years ago was 2017, the end of his era anyway

Honestly feel Christopher eclestons Doctor was underrated 🤷🏽♀️
Always has and always will be my favourite

Little_Pixie_ easily the most overlooked
Osian Coleman - that really depends ! if u are talking new who I'd agree but overall Colin Baker is always ignored .
but let me tell u a secret - he's one of the best Doctors ever .
He was good and I was said when he quit but David does and always will have a special place in my heart
8th doctor :im the only doctor who can ride a motorcycle
11th doctor:hold my screwdriver
10th: Ride a Vespa scooter with Elvis hair :))

Matt Smith was my first Doctor, and I'll always love him because of that. He and David Tennant will always be at the top of my list, they just brought such depth and life to the character that I haven't felt since. I adore them 😭
I think he was the best maybe for m the same reasons
I love the eleventh doctor because he is so cool and there is Amy and Rory and most of all River Song (or Melody Pond)
@D D Day esq Ah gotcha! Who is at the top of your list then??
Tom baker was great and can never be beaten and no he wasn’t my first doctor
@@Michael-ou4lq He was my first and my favorite.
Surprisingly, twelve is my favorite. Capaldi’s sort of speeches and bitterness actually resonate with me in a way because that’s how you’d be after a war in some ways. It hurt to see 11 go, he’s my close second favorite, but by GOD did capaldi deliver and I loved it.
Random Homestuck/ Hiveswap/ Undertale fan I agree in 12 > 11, though that’s a really tough choice. Love them both.
Demetri Romano agreed, and it was a toughy for me, too. Capaldi just comes out on top in a way ig.
Capaldi was amazing, the twelfth doctors characterization was amazing, the conflict and resolution in his episodes were often problematic
I agree 👍
Stephen Moffat is often rubbish at endings, but he does THE BEST character writing. Always grateful for that.
@@ThreadBomb could say the same about most of RTD's era.
Christopher Eccleston and David Tennent will always be my favorite

YES
Agreed.
YES, I LOVE THEM BOTH SO MUCH
Throw in Tom Baker and it's the trinity. Baker was always my dad's favorite so I was introduced through him. Always show him love lol
David Tenttant has to be my favorite, and his regeneration just killed me. I was really upset to see him go, but Matt Smith does put up a good fight for second on my list. I miss you, 10!
Here here
Personally I think the 11th doctor is way too overated, I almost left the show cuz of him. I was hoping that Matt would atleast fill most of David's huge shoe but boy that didn't work out. Literally out of all 13 doctors, 11 would probably be the third worst.
Capaldi's doctor came around and made me smile. Capaldi was able to fill almost all of David's shoe! I like how similar yet different 10&12 are.
10 is happy and energetic outside yet on the inside he is sad, depressed, and kinda dark
12 is grumpy and mean on the outside while on the inside he is kind and forgiving
1)Tennant
2) Capaldi
3) Mcgann
4) T Baker
5) Pertwee
6) Whittaker
7) Troughton
8) Eccleston
9) Davison
10) Hartnell
11) McCoy
12) Matt Smith
13) C Baker
As much as I like Jodie's portrayal, I DO NOT like the majority of her episodes, especially Fugitive Of The Judoon and The Timeless Children.
Anyways Allonsy!❤️❤️
@@tristansteinbomer3256 12th doctors absolute dog shit
@@ladysilento6028 maybe to you but not for me
The reason the show has lasted so long is that everyone gets to have a favorite Dr .
@D D Day esq
Yes I am fearing that . The show got almost cringe worthy political recently it has lost much of its escapism appeal.
Also, David Tennant will and will always be my favorite Doctor
Same. The perfect blend of playful, delighted, stern, and dangerous, but each at the right time. And played masterfully and written wonderfully. Eleven and Twelve really did suffer form Moffett's idiocy, I feel. Smith is a fantastic actor, but I felt like the character kind of swerved all over the emotional map, often at the wrong times, and it was difficult to take his bravado and self-proclaimed badassery seriously. With Ten, when the dark side came out, it was carefully measured and well-earned.
I said the same thing till I saw Tom Baker's doctor. Now David Tennant takes close second
Bobby Feet i disagree I think that Moffat is an underrated producer because idc what anyone says I loved smiths doctor and Capaldi’s I love Smith a bit more because I loved his send off and my favourite speech from him is in the episode the rings of Akhatan as he tells the parasite 🦠 his story it brings me to tears every time I hear it x
Me too. That perfect mix of quiet sadness, anger, and silliness
Tennant and smith
I met Tom in 1975 just after his first few programmes were aired. It was at Banstead Fayre and he spoke to me. I was 8 and my mum took me to see him. One of my most treasured possessions is a signed and dedicated picture for my 50th birthday of Tom holding a sweet dish full of glowing jelly babies, the very last thing my mum bought for me. She died before my birthday so it is especially poignant and I'll treasure it forever.
An jealous,I too grew up watching him as my doctor and when he regenerated was so gutted I walked away from doctor who's followed after.
Thats really nice! Sorry you lost your mum; I havent and I hate thinking about it, but it must be hundreds of times worse for you
Also sorry for your mum and believe me I can partly understand you because 4 years ago I've lost my dad
you are very clever for your age - you know how to use UA-cam. I congratulate you!
@@Rubog it's not really that hard with a sprinkle of interest. my grandma is quite clever too, but her problem is she hates internet and refuses to learn.
I've heard it said that your favorite Doctor is the first one you ever watched. And that's why lots of people love Baker, Tennant and Eccleston.
Not really the case for me, my first was Eccleston back in 2012, but my favorite is Davison
Nor me. McCoy was the incumbent when I started watching. Got him at 9/13 on my list.
The fourth doctor for me!
I started with Eccelston but love Tennent. Capaldi is fairly close with Tennent, for me. His war speech was amazing and i watch it all the time.
I agree. Tom Baker was my entry into the Dr. Who Universe. Here in the US it was shown on Public Television so episodes were only of one era mostly. Christopher Eccleston is my favorite of the modern era.
I became a Whovian because of Matt Smith, but he turns out to be my second favorite after I watched David Tennant's brilliant run as the Tenth Doctor. Both men really made Doctor Who into a fantastic series.
Capaldi has been way underrated as the Doctor. Going to miss his portrayal.
Me to !!
Im also going to miss all the classic Dr Who monsters that Capaldi asked to have brought back.
But still, we still have the original classic Cybermen to com , yet :)
My Favorite is Peter Davison!
The Spastic Tiger I completely agree!
Actually the story with the Ice Warriors had a pretty amazing ending.
I had always wondered how the Ice Warriors turned up on Peladon.
We had to wait 40 years to find the answer to that one.
I will say that this season has been a rather low season of good stories.
But wonderful to have Missy turning up constantly.
God I love that woman...She is wonderful !!
Worst Dr Who character of all time for me, has to be Noodle.
Matt Lucas is one dreadful actor & totally wooden in portrayals of his character.
A character that needs to be killed off & very quickly...Once & for all !!
Its Noodle who have slowed this season down.
He's totally brilliant !!
And a fellow Whovian !!
He deserves a BAFTA, but is destined not to get one, because so many teeny boppers dont think he's sexy enough.
They certainly are not fellow Whovians !! :(
Mat Smith by far was my favorite, he was like a mixture of all my already favorites. Eccleston's bada**ness, Tennant's Craziness, Baker's Quirkiness, and McCoy's Goofiness all wrapped up into one bada** package. I will always love the 11th Doctor
Same
This is UA-cam, you don’t have to censor the words.
Bow ties , fish fingers custard , Stetson’s rounded glasses 👓 and fez’s are cool x

Yes.
Troughton is the best, mainly based on this one piece of dialogue:
“Jamie I have a plan”
“What is it?”
“Bung a rock at it”
Legendary
WE COULD NEVER HAVE DEFEATED THAT INCARNATION
Yes, his Doctor is amazing.
I love his ending where he talks about his apperence
JD03 Brilliant. That made me laugh, thanks 😁
"Doctor, Come on. Will you? The whole place is going to Blow Up"
"Oh, It's quite Alright, Jamie. The planet is quite Safe. there's just going to be a localized volcanic eruption; it''ll only affect the island."
"Maybe so, but we happen to be on the island."
"Oh, my Word!!!"
I am 48 so Tom Baker and Leela/Sarah Jane Smith always has my vote.
Tom Baker and Sarah Jane Smith, absolutely. I also liked both incarnations of Romana -- but Leela? I never thought she and The Doctor gelled, really. It came as no surprise to later find out they couldn't stand each other....
Gotta go with Leela/Romana I. Nobody would match Tom's wit better than Mary Tamm..
My 2 favorites are of course David Tennant and Matt Smith.
If I have to choose:
My personal 1st favorite is David Tennant. And that leaves Matt Smith in close second.
Agree !
I soooo agree
Yes
I agree
Matt Smith is objectively better than Tenth.
His love story with Rose destroyed the character.
Christopher Eccleston and David Tennant will always be my Doctor Who.
Eccleston deserved at least three seasons...the comics are still very good
Christopher Eccleston was and always will be my Doctor but with Jodie Whittaker here now I think she may be my second.
@@scottmantooth8785 Comics?
@@scottmantooth8785 I. had. no. idea.
lot's of them...possibly hundreds as of this writing... not just one Doctor but stories involving each one in adventures that did not make the screen... you should be able to find many in trade paperback collections or possibly at a local comics store or online shops... it's a bit over whelming when you see just how many there are ...many of the story arcs came out at the same time so collecting all of them can be expensive... some of the more interesting crossover stories might be of interest...one in particular from a few years ago has the TARDIS encountering the Next Gen Enterprise... where the Cybermen and the Borg have joined forces.... no spoilers here but i will say that the Doctor and Guinan are aware of each other and that him being in that universe is wrong and most troublesome... another very good but unrelated Star Trek crossover is called the Spectrum War an involves the Green Lantern...a very, very good story arc
always loved Tom Baker but I'd give him a tie with David Tennant - they were both the genuine article
I will forever love Tom Baker. But when the show came back, it was so different to classic Who, it may as well be 2 seperate shows, so yes I agree, Tom was the best of the old, David best of the new, and I have watched ALL of them now (or as many of 1 and 2 that are still around) so I can offer an opinion, unlike these children who have only seen new who.
@@brendanirwin1986 Yeah, I agree. I almost rank the older shows higher because of the absolute restrictions place on them due to budget, fighting the BBC stoggy old men, etc. The new Who spends millions per episodes and can pretty do what they want as far as content as long as its PG.
My personal favorite is Matt Smith. I found the show through him and I loved his interactions with his companions especially Amy. Tennant though was amazing and lacks nothing. It’s just one of those thing where you just like a certain thing better.
The tenth doctor was actually clever and used his mind to fight aliens. And David tennant did a amazing job
All Doctor's use their mind to fight aliens. That's his whole thing.
That’s literally their thing like ☝🏽 said
You realise who Tennant's role model was?
MystericalBEAST Is that you saying that you've only every seen The Tenth Doctor? Because you just described all of them
David Tennant for me is by far the best. His time with Rose in the THAT tardis with each episode introduced with THAT title scene was when the show was at its peak. The plots were brilliant, the writing was excellent, there was a perfect ratio of infamous and well known monsters to knew and unseen ones, and for me the best companions all travelled with the tenth doctor. This show will never be the same again.
Love and monsters? seriously.. but Tennants second season was shit, but this 1st and 3rd were class.
2nd season is my 2nd worst of the modern era tbh. Terrible and boring episodes. Fear her, the idiot's lantern, love and monsters... BORING. My fav is definetly Matt.
Couldn't agree more!
Danielmusicvl Ok maybe not love and monsters, however I personally quite like fear her. Just my personal opinion about that era, growing up with Tennant I thought that the writing and plots of MOST of the episodes were superb, I liked his relationship with rose but that is separate to how highly I think of the tennant era in general. Matt smith is definitely my second favourite and I am still a huge fan of the era of which he spent time with Amy and rory in the TARDIS
@@thenotoriouspotatopeeler8005 you know this is exactly why I love whovians, you're all so respectful and willing to share your thoughts politely. I love David too. Just a matter of opinions!
Sylvester McCoy was so underrated, wish he got more love 😔
I absolutely do not agree on the 12th doctor. He should be in top 3 if not on the 1st place. His style, dialogue, charachter development, performance and basically everything was on point and absolutely fantastic! Yes, Capaldi's run had some weak episodes, which is normal, to be fair, but overall he is one of the best incarnations to date.

Tom Baker was my first Doctor. I used to watch him on PBS back in the 80's

I totally agree that the whole “I don’t want to go” was on the nose, even if I loved that the actors get to say their last lines. I really love Matt’s, though: “I will always remember when the Doctor was me.”
It sounds far more gracious.
Carrie Spencer I also preferred Matt's lines over Tennant's. Matt and Tom's final scenes sounded truer to the Doctor's character.
Carrie Spencer Hell Yeah! ", we're all different people; all through our lives, and that's okay, that's good, you've gotta keep moving, so long as you remember all the people that you used to be."
Also it is emotionally manipulative. Because he did... He left because he didn't feel like it anymore.
Herman Falck How I much preferred it when the Doctor didn't know he was going to regenerate " Is this death ?"
That is what you call "progression".
I've actually grown to find the 12th doctor episodes more rewatchable than the 10ths and I find myself going back to Capaldi a lot.
Tennant is perfect, but Matt Smith handed in some incredible performances, especially in his final season
David and Matt are my favourite doctors

After Capaldi's last season my ranking of him went from the middle to near top and I appreciated his first two seasons so much more
Capaldi Is an amazing actor! He gave everything, his doctor is the most complex and multilayered, I just love him
Capaldi had easily the best moment in the entire series - The Zygon speech.
I will always love the 9th Doctor because without him, DW wouldn't be an international phenomenon today.
Without Eccleston's brilliant portrayal of The Doctor, I don't think I would've watched DW.
He is important, people.
Best: Every Doctor because they each brought something unique to the character and made it their own somehow.

When Eccleston left and Tennant came in, I left. I thought Eccleston was awesome, the whole tone of the show changed with Tennant, kind of back to "familiarity." (nothing against Tennant - he made Jessica Jones worth the watch)
Electr4 Note eccleston deserves to be where he was. He brought back doctor who and i think 4th is a good spot for him
My Doctor too! It's so bittersweet that he only had the one season.
Tom Baker will always be my Doctor. I watched when the only place you could see the show was PBS. Will always love him.
Yes he had it all. That voice for a start
Tom Baker was The Doctor when Doctor Who became known on PBS in the United States, and ran for many years. To many of us "older" folks, Tom Baker was and always will be the baseline against which every other Doctor is compared (and comes up short). He had a perfect blend of silliness and seriousness. He had a commanding presence, both physically and intellectually, and yet seemed so friendly and trustworthy.
Stacey Bailey Anyone who loves the 4th Doctor should watch his interview with John Culshaw (who interviews him while Culshaw plays the 4th Doctor!) It's absolutely hilarious and you get to hear double that magnificent voice of his 💕
I think Doctor Who has always been available on the BBC, since it is a British programme
RumpelForeskin Yes, but for people in the US, that wasn't an option back then.. Even now for those of us without cable, PBS is the main point of introduction with a lot of British programming
Tbh? Capaldi has a special place in my heart, maybe more so than Smith (but not Tennant). I definitely agree that there were points in his run that Moffat was less than kind to his reputation. He was a touch gimmicky but not in ways that fit and leaned a little too heavy into the socially awkward bits, but I think that having him change in the ways he did was refreshing. The good outweighs the bad. He came from Smith, who was young and kind, forgetting about so much, to Capaldi, who was like an embodiment of everything he had seen and done, even before New Who. Capaldi is also a brilliant actor. His monologues carry so much weight, which is why he was so good in Heaven Sent & Hell Bent. His relationship with Missy and Clara and how those relationships changed with him were done so perfectly. Capaldi convinced me, time and time again, that the Doctor had changed /because/ of the people around him. He was incredible.
Capaldi deserves to be in the top five
Capaldi deserved way higher, he was really cool and deep

The sunglasses were kinda dumb but I actually liked the guitar playing. I thought it was hilarious that he needed cue cards to give out human emotional responses that he was not feeling because he was... well, alien and an immortal who watched stars be born and lived and died. That he could live 2 billion years in a loop and pound his fists into a wall and not go insane.

Capaldi is "wow!"
Tennant's "I don't want to go" is the anti "alons-y" -- it was a natural.
Not to mention that from the Doctor's point of view, that was going to be his last regeneration- meaning not wanting to go and regenerate for the last time is a pretty justifiable reaction.
Allons*
OH MY GOSH ALONS-Y MEANS LET'S GO
The french Geronimo
Makuta Miras - you could also add that, unlike other doctors, Tennant had an earlier near-regeneration and knew what the process was like. That made him different and even perhaps fearful. I wonder if the fact that he was alone made him emote more than he would have (see his near-regeneration for example).
I more or less agreed up until you said Capaldi was number 8. Sure his first 2 seasons weren't perfect, but you had to understand what was going on. He wasn't just "gloomy" and lack empathy. He was the first in a line of new regeneration cycles, so in many ways, he was literally trying to figure out how to be a person, but as an alien, he had to learn to understand his own feelings towards humanity. He was the only Doctor to not always be the same. He wasn't always "too alieny" that got less and less as time went on. Sure, an entire season based around "what kind of man am I?" was a bit too many episodes to execute that idea, but as soon as he's shouting "I know what kind of man I am... an idiot!" he started to show his full colors. Season 9 he was more happy and showed much more compassion, and he had sun glasses and rocked guitar, so much character and personality was starting to be born, and by the end of the season he was donning the ol' Pertwee red suit and got the coolest sonic we've seen thus far. It was sad we only got to see one season of Capaldi in his prime, but it was enough to assure me he is the absolute greatest Doctor and had more character progression and growth to him than any other. I'm not a huge Moffat fan but by season 10 you see that he was building toward this progression where the Doctor has grown from bitter to acting like a silly cynical loving superhero grandad, doesn't matter the cost, if some one is in trouble he WILL save them. Really reanalyze his character, his arcs, his growth, and take in again just how much season 10 shined and how amazing he was. Sure, I'm aware I won't convince you he's the best, you've made your opinions clear but really just think about it, hopefully you'll agree he's better than some of the others.
i agree... he was the greatest doctor imo also... you hit on some great points...

Your Doctor is like your Bond or your Tarzan...it's who you grew up with playing the part so is who you see when you visualise the character.
For me, that's Pertwee.
I mean, Pertwee is a legend for a reason...
My top three are Troughton, Hartnell, and Capaldi, except that it's hard to say because I genuinely love all of them (yes, including C. Baker. You simply haven't lived if you haven't experienced some Six (and Eight!) audio stories, and books/comics. The EU is so fun!). These "best to worst" lists always make me sad, and then even sadder when it's always Six at the bottom ;;
Christopher Eccleston deserves more seasons. He was in my opinion top 3, brilliant actor.
I agree I would have loved to seen at least one more season with him, I think he was way under rated, but from what Ive read he was the one that choose to leave.
I’m afraid we’ll never get more of him. Ecelston will never come back.
He was my personal favourite
Eccleston had a row with some of the creators and thats why he only had 1 season, and he was ultimately waisted near the end out of spite. its also why he didn't come back as a main part for day of the doctor.
Wasted? How much did he drink? 😂
Tom Baker will always be THE Doctor for me! Grew up watching Dr. Who and at the age of 10 had the luck of having lunch with him at a Dr. Who convention. Wonderful, humble and fascinating man. I love ALL of Dr. Who, but Tom Baker will always be my Dr. Thanks so much for the video. I really enjoyed it!1

I think the “I don’t want to go” line was perfect, he has just finally found himself, he isn’t the last of the time lords as he has the master and the fact that he’s most human out of them all is another reason, not only that but when you think about it we’ve seen the doctor say that he might as well die because regenerating is becoming a different person. Tennant had the best run in my opinion even though we had some bad episodes like love and monsters we had masterpieces like Midnight, not only that we had The family of blood which in my opinion is the second best episode after blink. I do love all doctors except Jodie, she’s a brilliant actor but she doesn’t fit the role she tries to be too much like Tennant and hasn’t had the chance to stand out
@AshBrooks ''that he's the most human out of them all'' is precisely what makes him so utterly unwatchable IMO. Why bother writing an Alien character if you're just going to ''humanise'' them?
@@mortdewerewolfe691 If the Doctor doesn't have human characteristics, there's no point in watching it, after all he would never care about saving the earth every time, him being human even though he's an alien makes this show a masterpiece.
How could you put 12 (Capaldi) so far down on the list?? Even in his final series, he carried that show with real gravitas! So poetic and just really really profound. He should be in the top five for sure.
Yesh, too bad 13 destroyed everything
I don’t see the problem? Why is it so bad that he’s below other doctors which are equally as great?
@@wackywaa1458 13?
Yea he literally carried dr who on his shoulders since the writing was terrible
I think that the tenth Doctor was one of the more aware ones about the regeneration process. Take, for example, this quote about him regenerating, "It feels like dying. Everything I am dies. Some new man goes sauntering away. And I'm dead." And of course his famous (and tear shedding last words) "I don't want to go." I think that David really was conveying that each regeneration is difficult for him in different ways. From what I've seen, no other incarnation of The Doctor really talks about it.
that was the problem with his regeneration to me it was far too emotional, he was complaining about it like a whining little child where as all other doctors had accepted their regeneration
Most of the doctors were the doctor for thousands of years, hell, 11 was the doctor for like 100k years, and guess how long 10 was the doctor? 3. 3 years. That's the whole point of the rage after wilf knocked 3 times, he COULD'VE done "so much more" but his journey was cut far too short, he made friends, really felt human for once, and was gone in the blink of an eye compared to the rest of the doctors.
animelovers000 Wrong. Wrong. Wrong. If he was so reluctant to regenerate, there's no way he saves Wilf. He complains before, realizes he's complaining, and immediately says he lives too long. He tells Wilf it's an honor. And then goes and does it. He says goodbye because his friends deserve a goodbye. Thanks Sarah Jane. But then it's beautiful that he wants to stay. He's not afraid, he's not whining, he wants to stay with friends and have more time. After running for so long, it's remarkable and BRAVE to admit. Of course it shocks him. He's more human than ever.
NicksAPrick I agree. Although it's hundreds if years. He states he's 900 something.
If we take his comments throughout his tenure into account, 10th Doctor was only around for about 6 years. That's super short compared to a lot of other doctors. For example Moffat more sensibly aged Smith and Capaldi's Doctors by hundreds of years inbetween season breaks and so on. It was a good move but brings 10's tiny tenure into a greater contrast. The Doctor lived for 900 years in his first 10 bodies and then reaches over 2000 years old in just the next two bodies lol.
9th - Hard exterior, soft interior
10th - Soft exterior, soft interior
11th - Soft exterior, hard interior
12th - Hard exterior, hard interior
domlo66 spot on
Have not seen 11 and 12 doctors yet (watching currently) but i agree with 9 and 10
That's why I loved 11 so much, so much more to him than meets the eye
Clearly you didn't see past Series 8 if you think 12 was just hard. His entire portrayal in "The Doctor Falls" brought me to absolute tears.
Yes 2,4 and 11 are my faves. Possibly because they are similar characters
Tom Baker is the bar by which all Doctors are measured
I loved the 12th doctor, he’s my favourite doctor tbh, JUST MY OPINION!!!
Twelve was my favourite doctor, he was brilliant.
I'm very offended that you don't acknowledge Matt Smith more than Capaldi
But hes great!
@@hushchild688 I preferred the more serious nature of capaldis doctor. Smith was okay but was a little too silly.
@@klonoalunar He was quite silly, but he's also serious, so yknow
@@hushchild688 not as serious and powerful as capaldi. His speech for example. Even his death speech too
1. David Tennant
2. Matt Smith
3. Christopher Eccleston
For me
1. Matt Smith ( he was my first doctor so yeah)
2. David Tennant
3. Christopher Eccleston
@@nova278 and in time order
@@nova278
And for me
1. Colin Baker (not my first doctor so yeah)
2. Tom Baker
3. Jon Pertwee
Yeah, that's right, I said it: I like Colin Baker best!
Agreeing wholly
@BerserkerXeno where is your picture from pls
i think the tenth doctor is the best in my opinion, he had great adventures, a storyline you could understand, and really good acting.
My four favorite doctors:
4: Christopher Eccleston 9th doctor
3: Sylvester Mccoy 7th doctor(kind of underrated)
2: Tom baker 4th Doctor
1: David Tennant 10th doctor
Tom baker will always be my favorite. That was the doctor i grew up with.
The bulk of fans who claim Tennant or Smith are the best Doctors do so because they haven't seen much of Tom Baker's Doctor.
Jelly babies
Tom Baker is definitely top of the classic era Doctors. I feel it might be best not to directly compare Doctors from the two eras, as the show became so different. T Baker and Pertwee are best from classic era (tho I'm sadly not very familiar with the earlier ones - Troughton seems good). For the modern era top 3, I would rank Capaldi, Smith, then Eccleston. Tennant is too normal and hamsterish for me, plus romance is a no-no.
I also grew up with Tom Baker & loved him to bits, gutted when he finished in 1981. Vaguely remember Jo n P who I quite liked. But when David T came along there was only one winner I'm afraid. He trumps everyone.
I always hate the new doctor at first (for replacing The Doctor!) and then love him by the end. I truly enjoyed Matt Smith but agree Tom Baker is #1.
samnyc2 well now you can't say you like him now you must say you like her lmao
Agreed. I never watched the old series, I started right away with Eccleston. My first reaction was "what? already? after one season?". Then "wait, this clown gets to play the role for several seasons?". But after a few episodes, I've grown to love David Tennant. His first performances were a little too frantic for my taste, but once they turned him down to half speed, he's brilliant! Can't wait for the next doctor to blow away my initial reaction =)
Marcin B can I just tom baker is the best one then the others in any order.
Caves of Androzari?! I’ll leave it there.
Well, looking back, I'd say that Capaldi's earned his way further up the list since this video was made!
11 Doctor(Matt Smith)was an awesome version of the Doctor
im guessing most people moaning about tom baker being 1 have never even seen an episode he was in
Well, I'll admit I haven't, so I'll save you the moan, but I have read the book based on the Genesis of the Daleks, if that counts... And I still think 10 and 11 should have come joint first...
Also, I wish 7 was higher on the list - he was very likable and a natural comedian, and he made the best out of what he had. But I agree with guy in that Eccelston should definitely be admired for what he did. He is one of my favourite doctors, and I was sad to see him go!
I started watching Dr who in 1980 in was 8 years old. I watched it on public broadcasting station in the states. So growing up watching the old who. Tom Baker is exactly where he needs to be on that list. Love David but Tom was the epitome of what the Dr should be.
Darren Smith Ikr? the 4th Doctor HAS to be my number one fave next to Capaldi and Smith. His episodes are just so fun to watch!
Baker was my introduction as well- on PBS. It was on at 11:30 on Saturday nights. I was 7- I used to stay up and watch in on the B&W TV in the basement so I didn't wake anyone.
Darren Smith THATS THE POINT cause it wasn't worth watching.
Did you know:
The BBC considered ending doctor who after David Tennants run because he was so popular that they thought the show couldn’t last without him.
Matt Smith: I'm about to end this man's whole career.
@@suiway no, just no
@@suiway Nah,David is better.
I've personally always had a soft spot for Matt Smith because he was the doctor that was around when I was younger. Still, my favourite is definitely David Tennant, especially combined with companions like Donna and Martha. 10 has so much charisma and a childish quirkiness that I love just a tiny little bit more than 11's humour. Very close though
Capaldi needs to be higher
I cant believe Pertwee is only at 6
Yeah, he was probably my favourite. Most of his stories were great, and I loved the rivalry and relationship between him and the Master. Made for a great season. Too bad Delgado died.
Colin 1983 I agree, in my opinion he was the best by far. Think it got worse over the later years and it's just a matter of time before it's killed off for good when they have a female as the doctor.
For me I thought Pertwee was a memorable Doctor (although Baker will always be my favorite)
But I just couldn't stand Jo, She was IMHO a genuine airhead too much of the time.
I can't believe Pertwee isn't last.
well he is not lol. Are you by any chance aged between late teens to twenties?
Matt Smith but my most favorite person throughout the whole series was Alex Kingston as river, she’s my wife 💍
As I'm a 'certain age', I would say my favourite would be a toss up between Tom Baker and Jon Pertwee. Tom's Doctor largely had the better storylines, but the great thing about Pertwee was that you could really believe he was ageless.
After Tom Baker, the series deffo went downhill and didn't recover till Christopher Ecclestone, who should be further up this list.
I disagree with what you say about Hartnell. Yes he could be cold, arogrant and grumpy! But at other times he can be kind too. This is along with his line flubs make him the third worst doctor? Is unfair. Back in the Hartnell era they filmed things as live so doing alot of takes was not somthing done alot if at all. I hate how people don't give his era the chance it desreves. If you don't like ok fine.
+, the hartnell era is awesome because at this time (essentially in the first 2 seasons) the show had a educational purpose so we could see the doctor at times like the french revolution and see him talk with Robespierre, this has never been made this way and this good later in the show.
Edit: Excuse my english mate
Hartnell was amazing. I loved him as the doctor, including all of the things the person who made this list counted as bad against him. To me those were all good parts of him and the reason I loved him so much.
Meg's travel vlogs I agree
agree with what you disagree about
Ten is the king of references 😂
Plus very unfair to William hartnell. He was VERY sick at the time which is why he fluffed however he should be one of the best ones
agreed
I caught a Hartnell episode last week. It was pretty deep for the 1960s. And William gave a great performance...better than most. Gonna catch more this week.
One of the great WhatCulture videos!
David Tennant is my Doctor and the reason I started watching the show, I’m forever grateful for that.
Capaldi would've been higher if it wasn't for bloody Steven Moffat
Smaug The Dragon
If it wasn't for the bloody idiot who made this video...
Smaug The Dragon Nah Capaldi is just a rubbish actor
Epic of ways
Yeah... well. Someone hasn't seen In the Loop or even every DW episode since 2014...
Epic of ways, Capaldi is an AMAZING actor. Even so his so his stories ain't that good (shame on you, Moffat), he is my favorite Doctor from nuWho. I just love his personality.
I really like his scripts. He's had some great moments and overall episodes.
I met Colin Baker at a convention in the early 1980s. He spoke openly with fans, talking to us in the hallways and in restaurants wanting input on his doctor. We did the best we could to encourage him, he is a dear, dear man, but it was obvious to us he had no control over the Doctor's development and that made him very uneasy. His era should have turned out much, much better.
1.Tom Baker and David Tennant
2.Matt Smith
3.Peter Capaldi
They’re my favourite
Spot on. Exactly the same top 4.
@@chriszone50 agreed
The first doctor (or rather the actor who played him) had memory problems, bless! That was the reason he retired.
Must admit my fav. doctor is also Tom Baker!
Muddy Witch
Tom Baker was my 1st Doctor and I really liked the character. I'd watch Doctor Who every week on PBS. But saying Baker is the best Doctor is almost automatic. It's like saying Sean Connery is the best Bond even though there's Daniel Craig as an updated, better at violence version. In any case, neither Connery or Baker will ever go below #2. I do think Peter Capaldi should be #3 (minus the sonic sunglasses and electric guitar... hes risen above some questionable writing.) Capaldi's given some fantastic performances. Heaven Sent alone...
Christopher Eccleston?
I agree with the Tom Baker bit.
Muddy Witch my favourite is the second doctor
He didn’t retire he died
Matt Smith is the goat for me. The perfect mix of alien eccentricity and a human imperfection and raw emotion. Most of the performances when I think of new who are Matt Smith. From his first episode “hello, I’m the doctor” to the speech he gave the weeping angels to the pandorica episodes. He’s utterly fantastic, and without taking anything away from other great actors and doctors, he’s my hands down favourite.
I never understood the hype about Matt Smith. He was okay if a little annoying at times. I think I could've watched him had the stories been decent but when Moffat took over the series started to decline in quality. Matt Smith definitely isn't the worst Doctor though and he had the difficult task of coming straight after the actual best Doctor ;)
Tenant didn't want to leave, but he came back
He did it
Two words. "Heaven Sent".
agreed, two more THAT SPEECH!
Matt Smith was my first doctor & he will always be my favorite one!
Same
Me three he was my childhood Doctor
Matt Smith feels too underrated to me, but his stories were really good which helped a lot, in contrast to that of Capaldi's, which, apart from the time loop episode, were forgettable.
Nah bro David Tennant all the wayyyyyyyyyy
Same
I loved Capaldi, but I also came to Dr. Who in my late 30s instead of my childhood or teens. I've since gone back and watched all of the modern Who and as much of the classic who as I could get my hands on, but I still identify with Capaldi most. Every single one had something different to love, though.
they say you'll always remember your first the most. for me it was matt smith of the new who. tom baker on the classic who.
It's weird to think only 4 years ago people were still complaining about Moffat.. God I wish he was still running it now
I always considered Tom Baker my doctor. Nice to see him at the top of the list.
Tom's interpretation of the Doctor was outstanding. You can't take that away from him.
Pfft, even though it was just a silly one-off comedy bit, my vote would probably be for Rowan Atkinson in Curse of the Fatal Death. SO good on every level.
Brad Leclerc Agreed. How Atkinson hasn't actually played the Doctor in the series proper is beyond me.
Brad Leclerc Jonathan Pryce was great as The Master too 😉
