did this this past weekend. It worked fantastically!! thank you sir, you are a god amongst men. I can't wait to see the clarity on the IPA i just did. Checking it friday which will be 5 days after adding it. I have not used gelatin for fear of infection. Now I know i don't have to. Biofine FTW.
Been doing this for ages, if you use a luer lock syringe they are threaded on the end and you can screw the tube on. It's really secure. If you use a bigger syringe you can suck some gas out of the fermenter / keg and then that way you force all of the liquid out without air contamination.
You have done it again. Excellent video, so easy to implement. I sight a lot of your information on my channel. Oxygen is the biggest enemy to all of us brewing big IPAs. Please keep up the great work. Cheers from Tacoma, WA -DT
Thanks Gash! This works great in the fermenter too, even if not pressurized I can’t imagine a whole lot of o2 gets in if I’m quick about removing the bung, injecting the Biofine, and putting the bung right back
Thanks mate. I've used Biofine for years now. Works great. I've found a lot of vegetarians who love to drink beer !! Gelatin doesn't work for them 🙂 Love your channel, you've kept me sane through Covid. Cheers bud.
Great video sometimes the simple ideas are the best ones 10 ml syringe and bit of silicon hose the best and cheapest option thanks for sharing. Cheers 🍻
Mostly just the need to mix it in, I like to do it after cold crash and then mixing it in will stir stuff up again, but yeah you can for sure. Another reason is its much easier to store kegs, like here i have 4 in a fridge, but if i was to keep the fermenters full for another 4 or 5 days then its a bigger problem and blocks my pipeline. Cheers!
Hi Gash, I've just watched the video, great idea. I was going to try it but the links to ebay for the tubing are both dead. Can you give me any info on the sizes of the tubing. Cheers!
ebay.us/hGTtcV it would be the same as that, I just need to remember sizes I think I bought 2x4, 3x5 and 5x8. I dont which I used, I think the small one was too small, I bought a metre of each so havent had to buy any again lol Maybe I mention it in the video?
Looks great! I just wondering can I ferment a light cola with this method by adding the brown sugar to the solution? My goal is to keep the original co2 during the whole process in the cola even when fermenting it to the delicious ale! My hole family will get that dark gold then! I hope I could change the light cola to be taste as nitrogen beer without even using the N2 during the whole process!
Thanks did this based on your video. on storage, the manufacturer says " Store in cool, dry conditions above 5°C and do not allow the product to freeze during transport or storage.", Wonder what's worst, below five or above 20? Do you find that without fining in the fermenter you get some hop crap clogging your connectors in the keg transfer?
Most breweries and people I know store it in the fridge and haven't had a problem. Make sure to shake it up before use. I don't use it to clear out hops its more a yeast and by products to drop out, cold crash does the hops fine. A good cold crash and don't be draining to the yeast cake.
Thank you so much for sharing this! I am planning to use Biofine clear to decrease the amount of sediment in my bottles. Will there be enough yeast remaining in suspension to successfully bottle condition the beer? Do you have any experience about it?
You mention at ~5:50 that you purged the keg with sodium metabisulphite. I've been purging by pushing Starsan from keg to keg but I'm looking for an alternative due to its oxidative properties. Can you re use your sodium metabisulphite solution over and over again or do you need to make it up fresh each time? How much do you use? Cheers!
No you can't keep it, it's not good to store in kegs, no chemicals are really. You could reuse the water by adding some more I guess, but I wouldnt store it in a keg. SMB is cheap and you dont need much, if you control the amount you use the, like dont go crazy, the water will be fine to throw on the garden or something, it dissipates fairly quick Cheers!.
May have been asked but if no beer is in the keg yet, why not add it directly to the keg with the lid off then purge the keg? Thar is how I fo gelitin and wondered if I was missing something. Is this only if the beer is in the keg already?
thanks for the vid! Question: why do you fine in the keg rather than fine in the fermenter? I’m thinking i’d like to use your technique in my fermzilla so i can leave the sediment behind when i keg.

Great video thanks! 2 questions. When keg conditioning one should add biofine to the beer after it’s done carbonating yea? And 2nd do we not have to worry about sanitation as much at this step? Thanks!
That is correct, although I am doing a study or experiment right now where you add the biofine at yeast pitch... but wont have the results for another week or so... So maybe in the future you'll be able to add it to the keg with the sugar as you carbonate! Once alcohol is in the beer sanitation isn't as important, of course you want everything to be clean. I would happily keg a beer in an un-sanitised keg if the keg was clean. Cheers!
I would have thought it would have been better to add after filling the keg rather than before, that way it drops everything down? I use floating dip tubes
Quick question to all the people in here and the Channel owner , how Come on the gas post on the keg there is no short stainless tube say to a 1/4 way down then keg to carbonate faster like on a sodastream machine maybe even with a carb stone attached to the tube or is this all ready a thing ?
The old story of having the gas pipe in the beer to carbonate faster is a bit of furphy, it doesn't make much difference at all. A carb stone does though, I guess it's the fact it's extra cost but mainly a touch harder cleaning and sanitising. Another great reason is to keep the end out of beer level so there's next to no chance of getting beer up your gas line which is a complete pain when it happens, usually means replacing the line or regulator/parts or dismantling your set up. Cheers!
I brew lagers under pressure and I have been filtering beer from the fermzilla to the keg, it comes out clear but when it gets cold I get chill haze so I have been using gelatin in the keg, then wait 3 days, preferably a week and it clears right out, I also use floating dip tubes as well, sometimes it is a bit stubborn and won't clear out, is Biofine better than gelatine?

Yep you'll find the amount that works for you, and some different brands I find I need a touch more. Cheers!
Great non expensive method, something I’ll be copying 🍻
Cheers Pat!
Brilliant. Aussie homebrewers are the best.

Yeah I did start with luer years ago, run out now, but the last batch of syringes I bought I didn't want luer lock so I adapted
Hi there, Why not add 10mls after cleaning the keg, with non-rinse sanitiser, then purge O2?
You have done it again. Excellent video, so easy to implement. I sight a lot of your information on my channel. Oxygen is the biggest enemy to all of us brewing big IPAs. Please keep up the great work. Cheers from Tacoma, WA -DT

Great point!
Been doing that for the last 6 month with great results. I was advised 1ml per litre. I’ll reduce to 15 for my 23l batches and see.
Thanks 🙏
Yeah 15 will be plenty cheers!

Definitely gonna be doing that! Great video again mate!

Good stuff, just rigged up my own one with a 50ml meat injector I had lying around, works a treat.
Used this method tonight. Thanks for the good idea!

wow! Great and simple. I will try this for sure!!

What's your reasoning for clarifying in the keg instead of the fermenter before transferring?

Just that I much prefer to totally purge the keg by filling and emptying using CO2 then by guessing via some purges. Cheers!
Great tip!

@@88Nikoli I serve from the same keg. You could rekeg if you're careful and if you are planning to move the keg around a lot. Cheers

Doesn't matter which way as long as it's mixed in. And just putting it in the filled keg I've found isn't enough, still needs a mix to work best.
@@HomeBrewNetwork What about putting it in the keg before you fill it?
@@crankcasy Its doesnt matter, either way, just make sure its mixed in. Cheers!

will this work if i make a Metabisulhite solution with water for kegging time?
It will work for anything you want to add, but I'd just use SMB to completely flush the keg before filling. Cheers!

Anyone know where I can pick this up in the UK or an equal equivalent? been using gelatine for a while now but this looks much much better and easier.
