  • My first attempt at doing a relatively oxygen-free transfer of gelatin into a keg of Kolsch.

I actually do this same exact thing but straight into the fermenter (I use a modified Fermonster as well). I like having the clearest beer possible in the keg so I can move it around without stirring up sediment if needed. Cheers and enjoy the long weekend!

Thanks for confirming this wasn't a crazy idea!

One thing I hate about gelatin- That foul barnyard smell when heated

I didn't notice that with this stuff but I have that in the memories of my childhood for sure. :)

Doesn't the water sort of defeat the purpose because it's part oxygen?

I suppose it partially does, but it's probably still less severe than opening the keg since it's in solution. I had that same thought when I was doing flavoring on a strawberry wheat beer with freeze-dried powder and took the approach of quickly dumping it in the purged keg. Difference is you can't just throw gelatin powder in so this is definitely a "least worst" approach as opposed to anything that's 100% pure.
