- How often should the DNA Appliance and Homeoblock get Adjusted and How Long do you wear it?
The retainer-like device is worn at night for 9 to 18 months during a typical course of treatment. The medical technology owned by Vivos Therapeutics works by stimulating the jaw and facial profile to grow wider, taller and more forward. Usually treatment stops mouth breathing and snoring and TMJ pain. Many people who wake up with headaches and jaw pain will get relief from this treatment. The DNA is currently one of the most effective appliances for TMJ pain.
DNA Appliances vs Sleep Apnea Surgeries
Surgery for sleep apnea obviously caries more risk whereas the Vivos appliance addresses the root cause of upper airway problems. There are 3 very popular surgeries for sleep apnea:
Tongue advancement surgery. This procedure basically uses your lower jaw bone to lift your hyoid bone and tongue upwards. It does work, but no telling how long it will take for the tongue to break free
UPPP or UP3 apnea surgery
Soft palate pillar implants. polyvinyl rods that stiffen the soft palate to prevent collapse.
Try the DNA appliance first and you most likely will not need these. Also these surgeries often need to be repeated every 5-10 years and they do not fully address the real problem causing sleep apnea.
Results of Treatment with the DNA Appliance
better airflow through the nasal spaces and mouth
improved bite function and fit of the teeth
improved tongue space and posture
reduced teeth clenching
fewer headaches in the morning
more balanced facial symmetry
better posture

Teeth Clenching is a Symptom Sleep Apnea
Did you know that 77% of people who clench their teeth at night have sleep apnea or UARS? Lack of deep sleep causes thyroid problems, heart disease and premature aging? Unlike CPAP and night guards, Vivos orthodontic therapy does not involve wearing appliances forever. The root cause of the problem will be corrected and you can go on with your life without a need to wear an oral device at night forever. The Vivos is an adult orthodontic expander that increases the size of the mouth and jaws.
Hi Dr Adams, I'm really hoping you can answer this question - how do you decide which side to put the Homeoblock biteblock when building a device?
My face is lower and more developed on the right side, and higher and less developed on the left. My mandible swings out to the left. I have a Homeoblock with the biteblock on the right, but it’s really irritating my face, neck and back muscles and causing a lot of tension. I feel that having the block on the right is causing this side to move even lower, and I’m convinced the block should be on the less developed left side to help it catch up with the right. But I’m assured it should be on the right, because this is the lower side and developing it further will lift it.
If you have any info on this it would really help me out, thank you so much! :)
I have a video titled how to correct a facial asymmetry on this UA-cam channel. Check it out and I think it will answer your question. We actually use a bite block that has a different amount of material on both sides. I do not like putting material on one side and none on the other. That usually causes jaw muscle tension. The height of the bite should be set so the jaw muscles are in a neutral relaxed position.
Thanks so much for the response. Unfortunately my Homeoblock has already been made so I don't currently have the option to have material on both sides. In the video at 9:03, you say sometimes you put more material on the lower side to try and lever this side up (which is what I have - block on the lower side). But surely having more material on the lower side would lower it further, rather than raise it?
What do you think is better between a homeoblock or DNA? I heard DNA causes tooth tipping and doesn’t promote new bone growth. Is this true?
What achieves better results in terms of bringing the face forward and eliminating postural issues and tongue position? I was thinking initially to get an MSE expander but they recommended lower jaw surgery which I will absolutely not get.
So my final 2 considerations are these appliances and I’d Ike to know which one is better off long term?
Cheers
Honestly they work the same. It’s the design and the treatment protocols of the doctor that makes the difference. Currently we are using Homeoblock appliances. MSE only expands the upper jaw wider. Sometimes we use it after tye Homeoblock, but most of the time we don’t need it. The Homeoblock and DNA are 3D growth appliances and can often do the entire case without other appliances or braces afterwards
@@SereneOrthodontics that is absolutely amazing advice, thank you very much! I really appreciate it! There’s only one person in Sydney who does it… and he uses both appliances but I was worried about how they differ in order to make the right choice! Thank you! 😊😊
what do u tjink of all the shade agga is getting by this news channel? arent teeth borne expanders similar? why do a lot of people talk about lose teeth and loss off bone???
Here’s what I think: marylandholisticdentist.com/agga-anterior-growth-appliance/
Dr Adams. I hope you see my comment. I’ve lost my homeoblock turnkey, and my dentist is very tough to get a hold of. Where can I find a replacement? Im tempted to use a thumbtack
any little piece of metal you can fit in there should work. sorry for the delay.
Would a homeoblock be necessary strictly just for the fact of teeth grinding? Or would something else be beneficial? My dentist is testing me for it right now but I don't have any issues other than "possible" teeth grinding. I sleep with my mouth closed, don't snore, don't have headaches or jaw pain. I even had invisalign a while back and all seems good.
Thanks for the question. Do you clench your teeth at night or during the day or both? Night time clenching is an airway problem with your tongue getting into your throat when it should be suctioned onto your palate. Daytime is an unrestful or unbalanced bite. Bottom line - if you clench your teeth you will benefit from a well designed Homeoblock because the root cause of all clenching problems is not having enough space in the jaws and not enough balance. Good luck and thanks for watching.
I don't clench during the day. Hard to tell if I have been at night besides the wear.
Thank you@@SereneOrthodontics
do yall have free consultation
yes. We do not charge for consultations. Sorry for the delay
I am told to get my 4 teeths extracted can I pls send you my teeth photos for a second opinion ?
Absolutely. Please send to garyadamsdds@gmail.com And whatever you do, don’t pull any adult teeth. Also send photos including how your back teeth fit when you bite on them.
Do you recommend wearing the device 10 hours straight?
It’s probably better but 2 blocks of time works too.
Can you have a bottom crown while getting this treatment?
We usually can maintain the fit of the appliance if a crown is done
