very kind of you to say the previous person didnt make anything worse, they were likely inspired by someone like you that is talented enough to make repairs look easy. I think an important aspect of your channel is to inspire people to learn to fix things. Although dunking on the previous owner might be what many people think to do, it could discourage people who were reached by your enthusiasm and tried to learn to fix something
When he confirmed the jumped fuse worked my first thought was “I hope he messaged the guy and let him know he was on the right track” Things like this can be discouraging, especially when you feel like you’ve spent tons of time and aren’t getting anywhere, nice to know you’re going in the right direction
This is one of the reasons I love to watch Steve, he is never negative about anything. He just see's problems that need fixing (with the perfect amount of thermal paste).
@Tronicsfix genuinely thinking of you bud. I know that's a cliché and people say it all the time but I've had to deal with similar recently (not me, a family member) so I can imagine what we went through is 100x worse for you. I'm sure you'll get through this tough time though and be back to your old self in no time. You also know where I am if you ever need someone impartial to just listen and talk bud
@@Tronicsfix Good to hear that, keep recovering well! I had similar thing (if not the same) 10y ago and I felt pretty bad for 2-3 days every 2 weeks, but as you wrote in your last yt post, chance of cure and remission is pretty high for this one, so you should be fine. :)
Genuinely thinking of you too. Weird, I’m a random mother of two from Norway, but your videos are my escape from my reality…😂❤ Been rewatching all your vids the last days. I guess we’re a whole bunch of people genuinely wanting the best for you Steve 🙌🏻 Best wishes!!!
I didn't know you got cancer, hope you'll get well soon... Tronicsfix is the only tech fix channel that able to present entertaining content of repairing electronics compared to other (after Ben heck)
Hi Steve! Just wanted to say thanks for showing me how to dismantle a PS4 Pro some years ago when mine became desperate for a deep clean. I was willing to dive straight in, but I've learned it's best to go into these things with half an idea before jumping in with fingers of sausages and fists of ham. Tomorrow I will be deep cleaning my 99th and 100th (!) PS4 model, a number of which I probably wouldn't be at if your video hadn't given me that boost of confidence to dismantle it properly! So thanks for all the entertainment and advocacy for O/O repair! Oh, and helping me pad my wallet out a bit more... 👍🏻
You got a jigsaw puzzle, and made a PS4 Slim out of it. Nice work. Teardown vids are good for new starters, but reassembly in correct order and position is so important.
Watched so many of your videos and it sparked my interest into this as a hobby, since then I’ve opened up a switch joycon I’ve had broken for years and found the right bumper button broken off. With the knowledge of your videos and a ifixit kit I successfully!!!!!!! Swapped the mother board (lmao) from a device with bad battery and stick drift. Then I changed my fans and thermal paste on my gaming laptop! Then yesterday I changed the charging port on and dsi XL and it works!!
I had a slim since November 2016. Gave it to my son 2 years ago and noticed it didnt have the same speed it once had. Watched your video on taking them apart, gave it a MASSIVE cleaning from all the built up dust. The original thermal paste was hardly even there. I got the 2nd most expensive kind at bestbuy and added about the same amount as you do. Put it back together (of course with a few extra screws left over) and it runs as good as it did when I bought it. Nicely cleaned, quiet, and smooth.
Its not much, but just wanted to say thanks for making these awesome vids! I know you're going through some stuff...just know we're all behind you! Thanks again and cant wait too see the next vid!
So nothing to do with lightning. They had a disc stuck, tried using the manual eject with a screwdriver that was too big and then continue to use the console until the fuse blew.
Steve obviously you know what you have done. The best channel consistently producing educational but noob friendly content. Steve...you bridge the gap.
Should do more drones like the Mini 3, 4 pro. I’m worried about crashing mine. Even something as simple as breaking an arm would be a GREAT repair video. I seen the other videos you done on the lot of drones.
i can honestly say this guy did better than 100% of the console repair chain store repairs ive seen on this channel. he just needs to work on his shipping and handling.
Doing tech support I had a guy bring me his laptop power brick after his power line got hit by lightning. The brick exploded like a massive firecracker was put in it! His wireless router wall wart popped open too, it was wild. The laptop survived though! He lost just about all electronics that were plugged in.
I heard of a car that was......from the power grid (EV). No visible damage because it was hit a mile away. The dealer couldn't fix it. GM bought it from the owner. GM gave reports to the owner. They never did fix it. But yeah sometimes struck by lightning doesn't mean directly. But if it was, it wouldn't have been that easy to fix. So I too have my doubts.
@@awilliams1701 A lightning strike normally means that it got an overcharge through the wall power outlet, which normally kills the fuse in the PSU and doesn't move on to the rest of the motherboard. It's not very likely that the damage to this console was caused by a lightning strike, but the original owner might have thought it did, because he didn't understand the original fault (the bad drive motor), but found the blown fuse.
10:37 I haven't seen any videos recently but the zoom in was a good touch/idea. Maybe next you could include up close b roll for other hard to see stuff?
Learning from you, and buying the equipment. I think I'm ready to start restoring old consoles. I know I will still have to fail a lot of times before I get good at it. But because of your videos (and other channels) I'm finally willing to give it a go.
Hey Steve! Thanks to you I was able to replace the fan in my ps4! As well as the thermal paste and thermal pads! It no longer overheats or sounds like an airplane 😂 Thank you for everything you do as well as influence us to repair and create less e-waste!
Thinking of you Steve and all the best my friend. You can beat this. I know I had 4 rounds of chemo last year and a stem cell transplant for ny Myeloma (blood cancer). All the best.
I loved this video Steve! Specifically how focused and serious you were throughout the video. Some of the videos you joke around a lot, but this is to the point and informative. Bravo! Thank you
Saw an older person the other day at Home Depot that for some reason had a PS5 with the covers taken off in their cart. Looking for parts or tools? Future TronicsFix content 😂!
Something about the "perfect amount of thermal paste" being used and not spreading it evenly, is driving me bananas... You are however, inspiring me to go back to what I used to do as a kid, open every electronic that has an issue or stopped working and fix it or break it more!
You forgot to put new thermal pads on a few chips on the APU side and on the memory chips on the clamp side. They're very important, because they're known to overheat without them. You should place them.
I am very surprised that both the laser and the harddrive survived the mishandling during shipping. The laser was exposed to every other part dinging against it and the harddrive got a few strikes aswell.
My Grandfather would have loved this video -- he was the master of "temporary" repairs just to get something working. Why waste money on replacement parts when you can improvise for much cheaper? 😂
Love the content & repairs. Was just wondering what the best way to contact you is since I have several consoles needing repair & would like to discuss it further. Thanks & keep up the good work!
Dang. Was hoping you would have at least tried to manually spin the old motor to see if it was actually frozen or seized and was the true cause of the issue, but I don't doubt your expertise. Another great job.
Another Magical Repair Steve as a matter of interest what was your hot air gun temperature & air flow % when replacing the fuse as I'm having trouble when it comes to these micro fuses lol 😆
Viewer is me everytime I want to fix something. Sadly where I live you can't trust to take your electronics to a repair shop without probably they telling you it can't be fixed while taking some parts of it for themselves or just screwing everything up worse than I do.
Been on a kick lately, bought like 7 OG Xbox, 3 ps1's a wii u... xbox 360 s mod kits, the whole shuhbang waiting for my 10k resistor to finish the mod, currently cleaning one of the xbox's out and going over the dvd drive, which im also waiting on my grease to get here. 😆 but it's keeping me busy and is super fun. Now all i want to do is figure out how to spray paint one of the ps1 slims with like crash or abe on it, but having a hard time figuring out how.. stencil and spray paint is so far my best idea. Idk maybe you have a better idea steve?
What’s your opinion on replacing thermal pads? It looked like most were missing. I’d be very worried about overheating the chips missing thermal pads but maybe I’m just crazy.
you do it every time you take the cooler off. it isnt always needed from a temp standpoint, but removing the cooler tends to tear them, then they dont go back on so well and probly wont cool great either. they're cheap enough to add to the already cheap thermal paste purchase
Everytime I tear down one I fit new (better quality) ones by default at rebuild, but then I charge people a few quid, so it sounds like they're getting more for their money. (plus you can guarantee one or two will tear, or get lost)
would love to see more videos about ps5 slim and the smaller heat sink and what noise levels and temperature it results in compared to original fat ps5
I know it seems like a shot in the dark but, would you be interested in trying to fix a guitar amp? It is a boss katana and they pretty much said they don’t do repairs on them but, seeing as you are not bad with a soldering iron, can maybe read schematics to fix stuff, maybe this thing is right up your alley.. would be cool to see it done because I haven’t seen any videos of anyone actually fixing one.
I'm now to the channel and been watching a lot of videos lately. Can anyone explain to me the "perfect amount of thermal paste"? I assume it became a regular channel thing over something funny or important xD
Excellent video. As always, you make it look easy. I've got a PS4 slim that will not take an update. One of the wires with the button snap style connector had the connection point come loose from the board (I think it has to do with bluetooth?) I am hoping that is the issue. But I need better tools before I can attempt the repair.
It's no surprise the person couldn't fix it. They can't properly mail it. Before someone thinks of taking a ps4 apart to fix it there should be a website with some questions you need to answer. One could be, "would you put loose screws in a box and mail it to someone?". If you answer yes, a thing pops up that says your not bright enough to attempt a fix
It'd be nice to see what happened to all the screws and parts you didn't use from that ps4 Did you "build" them into se parts ps4 or do they go to a bin? I'd totally forget where they go or what they're for lol
