I saw an article a few years ago about a woman who sued Microsoft because her son's Xbox wouldn't play the WiiU version of Breath of the Wild she'd gotten him for Christmas. It got dismissed pretty quickly and I'm surprised she even got a lawyer in the first place.
The fact the PS4 can tell when you try to play PS3 games or use PS3 controllers is incredibly sad. It's Sony saying, "Yeah we know what you want, but screw you."
Sony: "Look at how _powerful_ the PS4 is!" Me: "It's such a _wuss_ that it refuses to even _try_ to play a PS3 game." Yes, I know that it would need either a PS3 emulator or a PS3 chip-set to do that. That's _not_ the point.
Here's a funny thing: certain 360 games (oftentimes, earlier games in the system's library) have a similar message to what all OG Xbox games would do. This stopped being done later in the system's life, probably because the 360 was struggling in disc space compared to the PS3.
@@NessRandom1 Don't try to tell me that you genuinely don't think they could have made ps3 disc based games compatible with the Ps4 if they really wanted to?
@@phlhoran12396 Not without redesigning the PS4 entirely, the PS3 used a type of CPU that is unique and hadn't been used in any hardware before (or since). Not only did this make the PS3 a nightmare to develop for during its lifetime, it made it impossible for them to incorporate compatibility with the PS4 (although they did initially attempt it). Nowadays we have the processing power to emulate PS3 games but back when PS4 launched, the only devices capable of it had high-end desktop processors. This means that the only way they could've enabled PS3 compatibility would be if they shipped PS3 hardware within the PS4 itself and ran using PS3 firmware. At that point the console would've cost significantly more and Sony at the time was targeting a price-tag lower than the Xbox One as they thought Microsoft would ride the success from the 360 so needed a compelling offering.
The PS5 definitely has the power to emulate PS3 games but the base model PS4 would likely struggle with it. It takes a decent PC to emulate PS3 games due to some issues with the PS3, including using single-thread processing at a high clock speed, rather than quad-core which was contemporary at the time. I know that most, if not all Dreamcast games have a CD track with either a generic "Don't play this in a CD player" message in it or a custom message delivered by characters from the game. (Skies of Arcadia did this, I think.) I only know of one PS1 game that did something similar, and that of course was Castlevania: Symphony of the Night with Alucard delivering the famous "As you can see, this is a PlayStation Black disc" message. I'm actually pretty surprised that Xbox games did something similar with a short DVD video telling you "Hey! This is an Xbox game, not a movie!" Would've been nice if PS2 games did that too, but since the PS2 didn't require you to buy a remote with a dongle to unlock DVD playback, they probably figured that wasn't necessary as most of us used our PS2 as our main DVD player.
@@buzzard3983 No, it didn't. Many SEGA CD titles used Redbook Audio for their entire soundtrack, so they'd be playable as audio CDs anyway. The ones that didn't were usually FMV games that used the disc for video.
@@LeonSheeter That's a bit off-topic, but yes. In fact, several PS1 titles stored their soundtrack in Redbook format. Some PS1 games also used XA or "eXtended Architecture" audio which was basically a compressed form of audio that allowed games to have more CD quality music than uncompressed Redbook audio could at the cost of not being able to play the soundtrack in a CD player. (You can still convert XA audio to another format like MP3 easily though.) And it wasn't just audio either, XA also allowed encoded video for FMVs in games and allowed general computer data to be streamed in addition to music if you were creative enough, and a few PS1 games could stream music and game data without needing a loading screen. I think The Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver was one of those games.

9:47 The game was loaded into memory on the PS4 to that point and did not need to read the disc. Once you tried to select a race it needed to load that data into the memory and tried to read the disc, which it could not. This is the same when I used to play racing games like Jet Moto. I would let the track load and then switch in a music CD and it would play a song off the music CD. The song track played depended on the games programming. After the race you would need to put the game disc back in.

Ok so, its not safe to put ps1 games in modern consoles because THEY USE CD's NOT DVD"S a cd's metal/recording layer is on the outside of the disc and while putting it in a dvd reader will most likely just scratch off that layer, BUT over time it will damage the dvd player.
The reason the ps4/ grand trismo didt crash when you unpluged the hard drive/ disk drive is because it was running of the ram thats why when you tried to open a new screen it crashed

Back in 2018, Microsoft installed a 4K UHD disc driver in the XB1 S it was supposed to play both Blu-ray and 4K UHD Blu-ray movies, but I'm surprised how the PS4 Slim doesn't play 4K UHD Blu-ray discs because both consoles were released the same year I can't believe it only plays Blu-ray movies
This video is great and loads of fun, thank you.
legendary thank you Jacob
12:55 I actually thought that's how you buy in game purchases as a kid 💀
man i watched you like forever ago scince you used that lofi-ey music sending good vibes
After the race you would need to put the game disc back in.
the PS1 disc probably doenst read because of the way PS1 discs are burned, the DRM and all that jazz.
Xbox still reading a bunch of the first Xbox games
I didnt know anybody else used the duck profile picture on ps4... ive only seen like 5 people use it other than me in the last 3 years
PS5 discs aren’t Blu-ray’s they’re uhd Blu-ray’s which the ps4 cannot identify
PS1/DC discs have the data on Track 1, but Track 2 and onwards are music
The twist in the middle of the medium is rough. Didn't see that coming
lol when he pulled the hard drive, it reminded me of when mine slowly died in my ps4 slim lol 😂. Another time was when I had an external hdd for my slim, and when it started going, while in game it reminded me of the old days of when you’d take a disk out of a console while playing haha,
I used to watch you all the time
I liked my own comment
At 3:26 it does come with a stand BUT its EXTREMELY SMALL and I actually bought a ps5 slim (not digital) but i would assume its about the same, anyways, i had the same thought so i searched through the box (even though it doesnt tell you) but there is a VERY TINY stand inside it
Ah I love Big chungus. It was my favorite game on the PhonyGround 4. Can never go wrong with it.
The legendary series may return 🤔
4:54 Sponsor skip :D
Big Chungus 💀🤣 I love it bro keep it up ❤
I hate how this guy does clickbaie
There is actually a splash screen for Xbox 360 games, but I only tried it on PC so idk if it works on PS4.
Ok so, its not safe to put ps1 games in modern consoles because THEY USE CD's NOT DVD"S a cd's metal/recording layer is on the outside of the disc and while putting it in a dvd reader will most likely just scratch off that layer, BUT over time it will damage the dvd player.
Thanks for including my favorite PS4 exclusive, Big Chungus. Pity the game was scratched.
I WANT A PS5 REMASTER!!!!
I think it would be neat to see a Japanese version of a PS4 game or some other country PS4 game in the US made PS4
The reason the ps4/ grand trismo didt crash when you unpluged the hard drive/ disk drive is because it was running of the ram thats why when you tried to open a new screen it crashed
Hey Jacob, I’m planning to buy a Wii. Do you think it’s still worth it in 2023? I’m afraid when it finally breaks my data is gone forever, but all I wanna play on it is Wii Sports and other physical games.
Xbox Series X can play CDs making it the truly superior platform. Also please get a 3D Blu-ray next time.
