That ebay seller wasn't completely honest. "I was playing it one day and it just stopped working." They didn't mention they lost half the screws and attacked the APU cooler with a screwdriver lol
@@HearMeLearn More likely, it had a legitimate overheating problem at first so the owner took it to somebody that claimed they could fix it. I doubt heat alone would kill it. Pretty much every modern CPU/GPU/APU/whatever will turn itself off to expressly prevent damage caused by heat. Heck, most chips these days are perfectly fine running 80-90c all day, every day. From what the seller describes it sounds like it just died. I'm guessing he took it apart after that so while not putting thermal paste certainly didn't help anything, it probably wasn't the cause of the overall failure.
OMG, what a nailbiter! I was on the edge of my seat thinking you were going to over-shoot it, but nope, the perfect amount of thermal paste as always. I'm sorry for doubting you.

Hey steve, love your videos! I started watching your channel recently and have been inspired to learn how to fix up old electronics. :) I just ordered my first broken game boy sp and can't wait until it comes in.
I loved the reference saying "Better than factory"! Love seeing support between same-category channels instead of stepping on each other to gain more audience. You know, like video game youtubers tend to do.
Good video, I've been distracted by this unpopulated M.2 slot most of it, but I managed to see the most important parts of them all : saving this speaker and the perfect amount of thermal paste that ascended twice !
Wow, funnily enough I bought an exact copy of your Taco Bell Xbox last year, same symptoms. Mine wasn't previously opened by the previous owner, however. The ebay listing noted it just stopped turning on one day.. Put it on my project shelf after not being able to properly diagnose it after checking all the same things you did. Just strange coincidence that your taco bell xbox had the same thing that happened to mine! Thanks for the tips on what needs to be transferred, definitely going to do that and revive mine
I love how this video took a turn for the better. With that being said, could you actually install a chime that says “the perfect amount of thermal paste” on TronicsFix Edition Consoles 😁?
I always wonder why some systems are easier to break down. I've had my base ps4 since launch and it's still chugging along. Even survived having my little sister spill water all over it while I was playing a game.
wow... I really couldn't believe the speaker did what it used to do! man, that was pretty cool. I had to rewind a bit and turn up my speakers to hear the chime and I was like, "Holy crap!" i looked over to my left at my lady and i was like, "did you...?" she was asleep lol the, no thermal paste...? dang... so many times you have done the unthinkable and pulled it off. you are what it's all about. Something interesting, looking up ISD comes up with a product line called chipcorder, is a all in one audio record/playback IC. could this mean if we found a compatible IC we could have custom Xbox one start chimes?
How can someone NOT put thermal paste on an APU/CPU/GPU when removing the old one. Even those guys who blasphemously mix new thermal paste with the old at least know that there needs to be something there also that guy who "repaired" the Xbox needs to be nowhere near any DIY tools or repair shop he mangled a heatsink by scraping thermal paste off it with what was probably a screw driver or a tweezer or something then he didn't bother replacing it and didn't even fully clean off the old one which fried the whole Xbox MOBO

@tronicsfix Technical question: i've seen that you sometimes solder onto contacts without stripping the wire first, applying your soldering iron directly to the sheating. Is this a common tactic? Or do you need a special type of wire? Thanks for reading and thanks for the great content!

I think they decided to not put any inside because it still wasn't working... But that scraped heatsink was awful
From what i saw on my laptop as we as a qhd and 4k screen the apu had a black spot as if it was burned or blown
The reason why the original board didn't work is you forgot to add the perfect amount of hot sauce on the board.
