Just as an update on my eBay case with this: eBay approved my case, sent me a label to ship it back which I did and today (2/5/2024) provided me a full refund of the item and shipping costs.
For better or for worse, eBay seems to be very....buyer friendly. Good effort of this one but even I was doubting it right from the jump. You're good but this looked like the seller was testing land mines with it.
You know they're scamming you when they take their sweet time shipping it out, claiming the post office is closed, and you already paid $90 for the shipping.
I'm happy to hear that you opened up a claim with Ebay because this seller needs to be removed from selling anymore items. That listing was a joke and the shipping was not any better. Hope you get all your money back.
@@Tronicsfix But do you get the shipping costs also refunded, or only the 40$ for the item? This would be a massive scam if you only get 40$ and they keep lets say 80$ of the 90$ shipping fee you've paid.
@@Tronicsfix Why not blast his ebay name in description? And how to start claim with ebay. I didnt even know that option existed. Amazon returns and refunds are so much smoother.
Former eBay seller here. eBay doesn't take a cut of shipping paid. So a common tactic (that I didn't use mind you) is to put a cheap price on the item but charge $$$ on shipping. So say your item is normally sells for ~$100 and would cost $20 for good shipping. Instead of eBay taking a chunk out of that $100, you list it for $20 and offset the $80 to shipping. You still only spend $20 in shipping and just pocket the $80 extra.
@@Donut0389 You must have stopped selling on eBay 20 years ago, your shipping scam hasn't worked for a long time. The bit you left out is if the customer complained, you'd refund the item price but not shipping, hence all the $1 + $99 shipping items. eBay charges fees on the total price the customer pays. Listing a low price with high shipping only makes you show up first in the listing, and eBay tends to take a dim view of excessive shipping fees.
@@Matt..007 That's interesting to note. I didn't know that (but never tried it). I wonder if people still think that could be done. For some reason, within the past year or 2, eBay sellers don't know how to pack stuff right. I had a seller just throw DVD'S in a box and send it with no packing at all. Had another seller just toss a CD in a padded envelope that looked like it had been used before, and the padding was almost non-existent. Finally, I had a seller that just put a valuable xbox 360 game in a plain envelope, no padding at all! Needless to say, all arrived damaged. Of course, when I contacted them about it, they blamed the USPS.
I bought a 5:1 surround sound system (Sony) and it arrived in an enormous box packed with someone's bed pillow but it arrived with speaker leads missing and a broken remote. I had spoke to the seller before I bought it and he assured me everything was there but it wasn't and speaker leads are ridiculously expensive for some reason so I asked to return the item. I was sent a label for a parcel up to 2KG and this lot weighs in excess of 15KG so I contacted the seller and he said "I'll send you a label", 3 weeks later no label and no contact so I started an ebay dispute for a refund. Ebay refunded me after 5 days and I have my money back and a surround sound. Strange that some people just don't seem to care either way, not a good selling technique IMO🤣🤣🤣🤣
Found the eBay listing. To be fair to the seller, they’re new to eBay so you completely took a chance with it by buying a bunch of system pieces. They also only used one photo and had an extremely poor description of what they were selling.
I just got my PS5 Slim and using a PC monitor that isn’t 8K, and doesn’t have speakers but still display just fine. I’m also working on getting PSP 3000 parts for a build I’m going to do for myself
i feel like $40 for a parts only PS5 in rough shape is still a pretty good deal. (seen people spend well over $100 for donor party only PS5s) but if they sold it as a Working product that' just needs a little repair and it showed up like that then yeah that's a pretty bad deal especially with nearly a $100 shipping cost. idk how the shipping costs work entirely on said site but i know some people will over charge shipping so they can pocket the excess while making the base cost cheaper and more appealing. i think that counts as a type of fraud right?
I wouldn't say fraud, but dishonest. That's definitely what they were doing was putting a high shipping price and hiding it under a lower buy price. In that case (especially how it was shipped), they should have just charged $130 (original buy price + the $90 they put for shipping) and just did free shipping. Same price and at least the bad shipping job he could have at least argued he did free shipping so it wasn't going to be great (still wouldn't have been a good excuse, but would have at least made more sense and come across slightly less dishonest).
That's exactly what some will do. I've seen people charging $15 to ship a Gameboy USPS standard and it'll just have a single round of bubble wrap in the standard $3 USPS box. I bought a GBA SP screen from someone outside of ebay (on his own site) for $5 and the shipping was $3 and it came in a standard USPS shipping bag in its own strong cardboard jewelry shipping box. Sellers think they'll get more money by hiding the fees inside of shipping. But eBay takes out of shipping because of folks trying to scam the system.
The worst part is you probably would've had a decent shot at something working if the scammer actually shipped it properly. That's probably how so many things rotted and fell off.
this is why whenever I buy something from someone on ebay, I always look at the reviews the seller has, the amount of reviews, look at the negative reviews if they have any, and how long they have been on the site for as well as other items the seller is selling to get a general idea as to whether or not it's worth buying from that person or to look for another seller
1. As an eBay seller myself, I am completely ashamed that another seller would do this 2. I guess the old saying is true. If it seems too good to be true, it probably isn't 3. At least you have the views to make your money back 😆. Keep up the great work. Love your vids
Most eBay sellers are either total amateurs, based out of China, or major corporations. There are very few small businesses on eBay anymore since eBay has been going out of their way to scare them off. So much easier just throwing the stuff away then trying to sell on eBay. Plus Facebook Marketplace is pretty good when things go right.
Only you could take on this and make it look easy, This board looked like a donor board from a trainee tech but instead of repairing it threw it on concrete constantly. Shocking I would of gave up when i opened the box. Great video as usual your so patient. Hope you get a full refund

I bought a ps5 for 60€ that had a problem with artifacts on the screen. The seller told me that it was always on vertical position. I put it in horizontal position and played with all of those artifacts, but for 60€ it didn’t bother me at all. And after 2 months it was perfect. It repaired for it self and it was the best buy i made so far.
I figured southbridge would be an easy fix for you. The chip can be pricey depending on where you get it from. But you could also try one of your donor boards to transfer the chip. Could have been worth a shot after all the work to fix the board.
Kudos for atleast taking a stand, as it would really hurt and elevate bad sellers to keep doing this to normal buyers, if you just looked the other way, as your motivation clearly are for the content and not the repair job in itself..
If it wasn’t for the 90$ shipping i wouldn’t think it was that big of a deal. 40$ and you’d atleast walk away with a few donor parts. But with the 90$ ridiculous shipping? Yeah that’s not a charge id be willing to eat.
I was gifted a PS5 from my work. I've kept it on firmware 5.10, since getting it a year ago. I'm trying to wait patiently for the jailbreak to catch up. I can't imagine what series of events would bring someone to treat a PS5 like this.
I hope you get money back. That kind of stuff happens sometimes. They needed quick money at that point of time, which they got. At least we saw soldering which is also very nice ;). Thank you.

Weirdest repair I ever had to do was an Xbox One, sold for parts or not working, the chief flaw listed being that it wouldn't go online. Upon cracking the case open, and removing the WiFi board, I found the problem: The last guy who worked on it didn't bother plugging the WiFi board into the motherboard. D'oh! Took no more cost nor effort than opening it up and plugging part of it back in. I think I paid maybe $90 back about 6-7 years ago, when OG Xbox Ones were still selling at a premium new.
I have an original PS4 I took apart years ago as practice and never put back together. Every single piece is there. I build custom gaming PCs and do some console cleaning/refurbishment. Maybe I'll send it for you to male a video on. Figured I better add mine has not been stored like that and would never ship like that 😅
10:40 -- How does someone manage to get liquid in the HDMI port? Liquid never comes within 15 feet of my video game consoles, TV, or laptop. Given where the ports are located, even an accidental spilled drink would not affect them.
He shouldnt get his money back. He took full responsibility the moment he tried to repair it. If the seller would have seen this video he could have used that against the Bayer. If he wanted his money back he should have left it the way it was not attempt a repair.
Id be willing to bet the corrosion on the hdmi port was caused by their makeshift flux. Also i wonder if this wasnt a donor board or something, there was so many missing components
Reminds me of my uno eBay experience selling a high end motherboard that I packaged extremely well and the buyer jacked it up trying to install it and claimed they received it that way. They didn't even message me, just opened a claim 4 days after they received it. I made a very detailed rebuttal with a ton of pictures including the condition during packing and prior to. Needless to say the guy never responded and eBay closed the case several days later. Just shows what can happen buying/selling used electronics.
For some of these projects without schematics people should take high resolution pictures of the boards one of a fully functional board and the other one with suspect parts and then compare them in Photoshop turn one semi-transparent and overlay them

They need to add the ability to block bad sellers that way you don't accidentally buy from them again
you can, but it takes a third party extension
You sir tryed to perform a the impossible most would had just tossed out. Respect my friend good video
Can't believe you paid $90 for shipping.. damn!
Strange that some people just don't seem to care either way, not a good selling technique IMO🤣🤣🤣🤣
soldering xp acquired. (honestly impressive you even tried. hope the refund came through!)
I admire all the work that u went to replacing so many components on that motherboard all for it to still be faulty
When I see something currently worth $500 for lest than 10% of its value, I just look at it like it is the plague. No thanks! Excellent video though!
Found the eBay listing. To be fair to the seller, they’re new to eBay so you completely took a chance with it by buying a bunch of system pieces. They also only used one photo and had an extremely poor description of what they were selling.
after 4:26 minutes: I have hope 🙏
after 12:44 minutes: Its a cruel world 😭😂
Work like this is good for the repairs community. Good luck fella. Love your vids.
Still an awesome video What would have been the next step to fix?
southbridge replacement
Replace the Southbridge and hope that fixes it but after a week of bouncing around in a box with lots of sharp metal I wouldn't be holding my breath
Replace Southbridge. With the condition of this board though there could be other things wrong.
(seen people spend well over $100 for donor party only PS5s)
but if they sold it as a Working product that' just needs a little repair and it showed up like that then yeah that's a pretty bad deal especially with nearly a $100 shipping cost.
idk how the shipping costs work entirely on said site but i know some people will over charge shipping so they can pocket the excess while making the base cost cheaper and more appealing. i think that counts as a type of fraud right?
China does it all the time, wish, temu etc
Yeah.. it seems to me like there's $40 worth of donor parts there?
Oh... the shipping! 😅
Ship it to Thecod3er for round 2 lol
The way this was shipped by seller basically sums up their entire life.
Was the seller Temu
eBay, big brain.
@@VadelGame Making a joke, big brain.
No it was Ikea, self assembly required
Lol
I tried watching TV. Shut it off and put in Netflix. Then shut that off and now I'm here and I'm invested lol
But it’s 40 bucks. Why not lol. You can Frankenstein it
Plus 90 for shipping
this is why whenever I buy something from someone on ebay, I always look at the reviews the seller has, the amount of reviews, look at the negative reviews if they have any, and how long they have been on the site for as well as other items the seller is selling to get a general idea as to whether or not it's worth buying from that person or to look for another seller
You bought a donor board for $40..No wonder some of the componets were missing..
it wasn't really about the state of the board it was more about how it was shipped for the cost of 90$
This is one of the coolest things ive ever seen. You are amazing! ❤ Love this content!
This seller definitely stole this PS5 took it apart, scrap parts and put the rest inside the box what a scumbag of a seller
Plus Facebook Marketplace is pretty good when things go right.
unbelievable how some people can sell stuff like that. All in all it was great content and a good watch. cheers!
Love your optimism to fix garbage. I was also hoping you'd be able to fix it, that would have been awesome 😍
Great Video. Would have loved to see a South bridge replacement.
Tronics - you do such beautiful work. Shame you couldn't fix it.
Only you could take on this and make it look easy, This board looked like a donor board from a trainee tech but instead of repairing it threw it on concrete constantly. Shocking I would of gave up when i opened the box. Great video as usual your so patient. Hope you get a full refund
I once have brought Nintendo switch from eBay for repair it came in huge box without any padding or bubble wrap around so the docking station, controllers and tablet with charger were rattling inside banging on each other and by some miracle everything was still in tact...
Respect for that crazy work with all the tiny parts. I hope you get your money back or the other parts are be okay. But with this video you will get the money back I think.
Bro your work ethic is second to none
You did your best to fix this nightmare destroyed PS5.I like to see your videos.
Basically they sent you a box of used doner ps5 parts they didn't need anymore.
I love your sad stories or failure videos because its honest and hard homie like work, so yeah ,Kudos.
well it's parts of a ps5🤣🤣🤣
Being the awesome guy you are..I know you’re gonna package it well when you return it lol. I can’t say the same for myself though. How I got it is how I return it 😂
Hope you’re doing well. Praying for healing.
Found this channel not long ago and watched a bunch of videos. Forgot the name of the channel though but just searched for "perfect amount of thermal paste" 😂 now im subscribing.
A valiant effort, my dude. Keep them coming!
Was worth a try. I enjoyed this a lot as it creates a mystery if the PS5 is actually working or not after putting in a lot of effort. :D
It was worth the watch, editing and uploading for entertainment
Sellers like the one you bought from on eBay need to be held accountable! Some people make me sick!
If it wasn’t for the 90$ shipping i wouldn’t think it was that big of a deal. 40$ and you’d atleast walk away with a few donor parts. But with the 90$ ridiculous shipping? Yeah that’s not a charge id be willing to eat.
Enjoy the info about the purchase/buyer. Good video. Thanks
They shipped all of that loose in a box... I'm surprised you received it at all and it didn't fall apart in transit.
Sad that it was unrepairable. Not surprised by the amount of missing components and warped board. Don't know how this can end up in such rough shape!
Thank you.
So close!!! Great work 💪😎
I don't know if you would be interested, but I have a xbox series x, that doesn't display anymore,it looks like some the pins on part of the hdmi is pulled off,it never been dropped, other than the hdmi port it's in prefect shape, it's never been opened or tampered with,it includes everything except batteries for the controller
That was a damn good attempt, most people would have just written that off from initially looking at it.
Crazy fix , with so much going wrong. Love the Jazz music though
Good deal Steve, the PSU alone is worth 40 bucks. The rest is bonus
Broken bonus for the rest of the 100$
I have an original PS4 I took apart years ago as practice and never put back together. Every single piece is there. I build custom gaming PCs and do some console cleaning/refurbishment. Maybe I'll send it for you to male a video on. Figured I better add mine has not been stored like that and would never ship like that 😅
I would have been livid. Your message was very professional mine not so much.
Steve even attempting a repair on this was a noble feat
10:40 -- How does someone manage to get liquid in the HDMI port?
Liquid never comes within 15 feet of my video game consoles, TV, or laptop. Given where the ports are located, even an accidental spilled drink would not affect them.
I would just send a claim to Ebay support for full refund. If they refuse, try it with your credit card company to stop transaction.
Glad you're getting your money back, because the seller wasn't honest at all. Hate people like this.
He shouldnt get his money back. He took full responsibility the moment he tried to repair it. If the seller would have seen this video he could have used that against the Bayer. If he wanted his money back he should have left it the way it was not attempt a repair.
@@aoronqui1Except the item was not received as described.
@@mechadeka well exactly! He tried to repair it. He should not have done anything to it except take pictures and contact ebay.
Id be willing to bet the corrosion on the hdmi port was caused by their makeshift flux. Also i wonder if this wasnt a donor board or something, there was so many missing components
So now that you sent it back. The seller became a customer and got a partial repair and diagnose for FREE 😂. I love your videos by the way.
It was probably used as a donor board :o
What you did fixing it with another donor board was impressive haha.. Hope you get your money back.
