Love Goo Goo Dolls! This is my all-time favorite of theirs...Thanks a ton! You guys nailed it. The slow haunting bass combined with the melodic strumming guitar, Amber as you pointed out so well, along with his voice, all just fits perfectly together.
Awesome!!! Apparently a girl i went to high school with married the lead singer. Not positive. But I grew up in Toronto and Goo Goo Dolls were from just across the border in Buffalo, NY.
They used this song and Creed's Higher as backgrounds as they edited NHL Playoff highlights in like '97 '98, and slowmotion, regular speeds, all fit sooo good the the tunes!! Wish I could find these edits ✌🏽
My daughter and I have seen the Goo Goo Dolls 4 times. Name brings her to tears every time. It reminds her of her dad who passed away when she was 18. He had a troubled life and she loved him in spite of it all. For a song of enduring love - listen to "Come to Me". You might just cry!
If you watch the movie, 'City of Angels', a romance-drama with Nicholas Cage and Meg Ryan, you will hear the Goo Goo Dolls big presence on the soundtrack. Great movie too.
You need to look up Pearl Jam Last Kiss... Its not one they wrote and its not on their biggest selling albums. But it is a song they would do live at concerts and they had to release it in the end...
Just brilliant lyrics in this song. I was in my 30's when this came out. You are really starting to try to figure things out. The line "And don't it make you sad to know that life Is more than who we are?" Just bashed me over the head the first time I heard the song. kind of an epiphany moment!!!
Dear robsquad I recently watched your reaction to Manfred Mann's Blinded By The Light .. One of my favorite songs .. But you didn't listen to the album cut which is longer and you missed an iconic guitar solo in an iconic song .. Maybe you should revisit it .. Also please check out Cars Cotton Fields you'll luv it
This song is representative of that melancholy 90's sound. "Scars are souvenirs you never lose." "Don't it make you sad to know that life is more than who we are?" A Gen X coming of age song. Takes me back to the year I graduated college.
my first band ever played this song... even as a bunch of teens we always got a killer reception for it... can't deny its a rockin song...... plus Twister had a deadly soundtrack
One of the songs that encaptures the 90s. It just has this FEELING that sums up this decade. Female Friday, another song like this Stay by Lisa Loeb. This song is so beautiful and simple. Please check out Gin Blossoms next.
If you like Lisa Loeb then you're in for a treat. I saw her name mentioned in a Facebook post from the Rob Squad about their new series on this channel called Rob Squad and the Creators. So, stay tuned!
Sorry I think autocorrect mixed what you wanted to write. The ACTUAL lyric line is "Scars are souvenirs you never lose. The past is never far." Yes, it is a profound statement.)

"A tired song keeps playing on a tired radio" is one of the best single lines in any song. And I am an unapologetic music snob who listens to a TON of music🙋♂️🏆
This is the song that put the band on the map. From 1995's "A Boy Named Goo" album. "Slide" and "Iris" are from 1998's "Dizzy Up the Girl" -- which also includes "Black Balloon" that is mentioned in the comments a few times (and rightly so). Both albums are pretty incredible, top to bottom. Just a great band.
I have loved this song since I first heard in 1995!!! Their whole Dizzy Up the Girl album is awesome from the first song to the last one … and they put on one heck of a great show
This song is from a very specific time in my life that I remember very fondly. The Goo Goo Dolls, Gin Blossoms, Matchbox 20 and others take me down memory lane. 😊
I always say Johnny's voice is like a woolen blanket: warm, comforting, and a little scratchy. Such a lovely sound. This is also one of the songs I could listen to forever on repeat without getting tired of it. Something about the alternate tuning just gets to me.
This means much more to us…we were in our 20’s when this song came out and now in our late 40’s-early 50’s…means so much more because we’ve lived our lives out … girlfriends, boyfriends, marriage, divorce, kids, etc…
This is the song that made them famous. They had been playing music for like 10 years at that point started thinking they weren’t gonna make it. The night radio DJ at KROQ in LA loved the song and would play it. Finally people started requesting it during the day and it blew up.
The lyrics to this song are just beautiful- And now we’re grown-up orphans who never knew there names We don’t belong to no one, that’s a shame And scars are souvenirs you never lose The past is never far I think about you all the time But I don’t need the same Just gorgeous.
They stayed at the Marriott Hotel I was bartending, 1995 in Scottsdale AZ. I got them drunk as hell and partied with them all night. They gave me 4 tickets to their show and I didn't even ask. Very down to Earth guys and one of my favorite memories in my life.
Pretty sure they were co-headliners at the time. The Goos were definitely at least as big as MB20. Though, in fairness, I might be biased, as my first two albums of my own were Dizzy Up The Girl and Mad Season, lol.
They did this song live acoustic on some show in 95, it’s here on UA-cam. They don’t look like they would sing like this. It’s pretty cool though. They host says “you guys are gonna be hit someday” lmao

My favorite Goo Goo Dolls song is "Acoustic #3". Not the best title, I know, but they did a great live performance of it in Alaska in 2003. The video is beautiful, so that's the one to check out.
Oh man, I forgot all about that song. I'd blast it in the car and then add a harmony part to sing along with him. Back during the 90s, when this song was out, my roommate had me go with him and his girlfriend to the Korean restaurant because it had a karaoke bar in the back. After a long look; I came upon this song, which I knew very well, so that was the song I sang. It will always be one of my favorite songs

Just recently saw these guys live. They always put on a great show - "Long Way Down", "Black Balloon". This is a great tune! John Reznik wrote this about his childhood. His parents died when he was young and his sisters raised him - ""We're grown up orphans who never knew their names" reflects his past. His dad was an alcoholic and part of the song describes his moment of flirtation with an MTV VJ Kennedy where they shared a kiss and had romantic phone calls even though he was married at the time. Kennedy didn't want anyone to know her real name - "I won't tell no one your name" is inspired by that. time.
I've never been much into religious beliefs, but this song to me represents him talking to someone close to him who had passed thst he wishes for their return, and he wouldn't tell God their name.
