The sound on the end of the notes Dolores sings is keening, a traditioning Irish wailing sound used to grieve. Such a beautiful voice we are all keening her loss.
Yeah, I think that they should certainly try listening to Sinead O'Connor also. Mandinka or The Emperor's New Clothes would be a good start because they're rockers. To really go down the traditional Irish path, Loreena Mckennitt - The Mummers Dance and Clannad - An Gleann are very beautiful songs. Or for something different Ashley MacIsaac and Mary Jane Lamond - Sleepy Maggie.
@@keithosmond5730 Not even, born and raised in San Diego. However, I wouldn't have considered myself unlucky to have grown up in British Columbia or the Canadian Rockies, very beautiful places.
Someone get this man a Cranberries greatest hits album right now. I appreciate you brother. I used to go to sleep to her voice when I was a teenager. You got to try Promises. Great review guys 👍
I saw The Cranberries in concert back in the late 90s. When they got to this song, they brought out this young girl from the Make-A-Wish Foundation and had her sing the song with them. It was the girls biggest dream to sing with her favorite band. There wasn't a dry eye in the house... There were at least 5000 people at the concert. I'll never forget it. :)
I absolutely love watching Brad listen to Dolores! His smile says it all. And to see Lex look at him and smile is so sweet. We love you guys! Thank you guys for everything.
Judging by Brad's smile nearly throughout this entire reaction, and prior Cranberries reactions, I think he has found his favorite band that they've reacted to. Note to Brad: The Cranberries aren't a band you need to "sneak listen" to.
The most beautiful voice I've ever heard, such sadness she left us to soon RIP Dolores, the big man upstairs has his lead vocalist back that's for sure.
One of my favorite things about these reactions is when Lex smiles while looking over at Brad. Just the light up in her expression and those check bones. That smile is contagious.
lol I've never seen Brad so happy. I definitely wouldn't have expected this to be the group he connected with, but that's the beauty of '90s alternative rock... so many different and unique vibes. You guys should delve deeper into the genre and he'll probably find lots more stuff he likes!
Highly recommend "Ode To My Family" or "When You're Gone" by the Cranberries. Dolores' voice is angelic on both songs... But if you want to hear the raw power of her voice, their song "Promises" live in Paris is absolutely incredible!
I definitely want "Promises" (see my comment). The only "problem" with the Paris performance is that they don't do the "oooh-oooh" part at the start and go right into the song. Still great, but…
"...never quoit as it seems..." I love that Dolores sang with her own accent. PS It's called "keening". It's an Irish thing: traditionally a whail of grief for a loved one, often at funerals.
Irish female singers are some of my favourites. They have so much depth to them. Two Irish sisters are some of the best I've ever heard. One, and probably the most famous out of the two, is Enya and the other is her elder sister Moya Brenin who was the lead singer for the band Clannad. There's just something about the Irish singing voice for me. It's beautiful.
Hopefully i'm early enough that you'll see this before it gets lost in the hundreds of comments. You will get a lot of recommendations for Ode To My Family, When You're Gone and Salvation... all good songs, but also all singles that got a lot of radio play. I would recommend going for some deeper cuts and checking out songs like.. Them, Daffodil Lament, Yeat's Grave (there's 2 short spoken bits in this song so you really get to hear her lovely Limerick accent), and Sunday. Some underrated and underappreciated songs, but all with great sound (as always) in Dolores's voice. And Lex rightly points out at 4:38 about the layering of her voice. The way she harmonizes with herself is amazing and adds to that angelic sound that she produces.
Been binge watching y'alls reaction to metal music, cuz I grew up listening to it, along with country, rock and 80's music. But, Dolores from the cranberries does bring a smile to your face and a calm to the soul. This song and her voice is beautiful. RIP Dolores
It's really nice to get to see Brad really enjoy a song. I feel like a lot of times he's just along for the ride, and he isn't really enjoying the music that much.
This is the most excited I’ve ever seen Brad about anyone, he has such a huge crush on Dolores. And You can tell Lex is a little jealous. These two are so entertaining!
Dolores brought so much beauty into this world and her beautiful work continues through her music. She is changing and transforming lives of people she will never meet or know.
Just came across your channel tonight and I've been binging all night long, about three hours now. Though all the videos I've watched I never saw Brad smile so much and soften his facial expressions. More Cranberries for Brad, please. By the way, outstanding reaction channel, you two rock!
So sad that she passed away…she was beautiful and had an amazing voice. Really a very talented artist. It seems like the most talented people in the world are taken away from us too soon 😢
And the band themselves are outstanding. Imagine meeting a woman with that voice, who wants to be the singer in your band, and you have to find the way to support and frame her, and never be in her way but always be propelling the music forward... They do an amazing job.
It was one of my favorite bands when I was a teen in the 90s. I was blown away when while taking a walk listening to the news on headphones I unexpectedly learned of her tragic death.
This song has always been one of my favorites of theirs. It's just so beautiful. The outro especially, when the full band comes in with that melodic guitar and those huge foot-stomping drums, there's just something uplifting about it. Music can make you feel all kinds of things, and the outro to this song just makes me feel pure joy. Like the perfect happiness of a beautiful dream.
The sound is known as keening. It’s, oddly enough, an Irish tradition that was done at funerals in times past. Professional mourners would be hired and they would weep, wail and keen for the deceased. While this practice has now gone out of style in Ireland, the great thing is that Dolores O’Riordan (the woman singing this song and the lead singer for The Cranberries) took something originally based on loss and sadness and make it an expression of joy and happiness.
I grew up here in Ireland, it's strange to think that this traditional Irish singing technique is unusual in other parts of the world, especially since all my favourite female vocalists have come from African American gospel and Jazz music
I think this is the first time we've ever seen Lex be a little jealous! If you want to hear another angelic, fairy-like voice, listen to Aurora. She is otherworldly. I suggest It Happened Quiet--Live at the Current
Another unique voice with sort of a "yodel" effect is Jewel (also pretty big in the '90s). Check her out... best starting point would probably be her first big single, "Who Will Save Your Soul".
She seems to sing as effortlessly soft as she does beautiful! We already do Zombie and are more of a rock / metal band, but have been thinking about this one for awhile! Love your channel guys! R.I.P. Dolores!
I'm so glad Brad is finding some things to like, and I'm right there with him on Dolores' beautiful voice. Not sure what he would think of Sarah McLachlan or Sinead O'Connor.
I loved Brads smile as soon as that first line was sung. He’s thawing out! You just need to find the music that touches you personally. I’m so used to seeing Lex lose herself in the music and now Brads on his way.
When your gone is another good one, ode to my family, no need to argue one of my favorite. She has so many more that shows off her writing and vocal skills.
Well if we’re going with their most popular songs we should probably continue with their singles between 1992 & 1997, since that when these songs dominated mainstream radio air play: “Sunday,” “Ode To My Family,” “Ridiculous Thoughts,” “Salvation,” “when You’re Gone,” & “Free To Decide.” If you turned on VH1 in the mid ‘90s, you were going to see one of their videos at some point over the next hour or so.

Brad is a fan. I agree that she had the voice of an angel, but now even more so, that she's singing with the actual angels.
Totally agree. Angel's voice, good memories of my youth!!!

Right? Lucky guy
Exactly what sahinberg said
She’s a special girl.. Intelligent and attractive in every way. Your a lucky man Brad!
And Brad seems like a pretty cool, intelligent guy, himself.. I loved his reaction, here..
Brad usually looks so intense. I'm glad to see Dolores' voice can make him smile like that.
Her abs were just about as amazing!! Definitely a teenage crush!!
Yip the moment she started his smile just grew a mile love from New Zealand stay safe and well whanau
This is an adorable reaction from both of you. Brad's icy heart has melted, and Lex's tinge of jealousy was funny to see.
This. The tinge of jealousy is so cute
Agreed! Lex also knows why Brad likes it...but isnt a dick with her jealousy. Great relationship guys. Im jealous.
Yes, I was thinking the same...
@@InTheOuter lex is totally jealous! Fucking so funny to me! Typical woman!
A tinge perhaps. Lex is quite something herself and im sure Brad knows how lucky he is! :)
there is something ethereal about an Irish woman's voice that can sing.
