25 years later I still can't figure out why Creed got so much crap from the pundits. They put out some great music. It's good to see them getting some love.
@jimihicks Everyone....or MOST people loved their music. The hate didn't come till they drank their own Kool aid and acted like they were levitating above everyone else. Even other bands that had to tour with them started hating their holier than thou attitudes. Pretty sure Scott Stapp has acknowledged that. The music was always great.
"My own Prison" has ALWAYS been my favorite CREED song. Creed has always had their own sound and feel. Great reaction you two. I always enjoy watching!
Two other Creed Songs you will Absolutely Love “What If” “What’s This Life For” Jay won’t be able to Contain Himself listening to What If Meaningful Lyrics Powerhouse Vocals Amazing Guitars Powerful Bass Lines Killer Drums What’s This Life For will also Blow You Away and I Think Amber will connect with the Lyrics and the way Scott Sings them
I just saw them live and they blew me away! Absolutely perfect performances from every band member. You should see if they're playing anywhere near you.
Scott wrote the lyrics, Mark Tremonti (guitar) wrote the music. Incredibly powerful. Scott questions his faith and finds himself having created his own prison in his mind. Lyrically, Scott can write some amazing songs. He pulls you into his world with the stories and his vocals. Mark is an incredible guitarist.
The first time many people, myself included, heard of Creed. I could be wrong, but I think this was their debut single. Great chords, thick bass, Stapp's delivery....they all combined to make them a force to be reckoned with here!
My Own Prison, the album, does not contain a single bad song. I was 15 when this album was released. Such a coming-of-age album for me. Brings back so many fond memories...
I was 17 or 18. This band significantly influenced me over the years. I love their writing style and how their songs are composed. Even when the guys broke up and then created Alter Bridge, they continued to put out amazing songs to this day. I’m glad they continue to get together and give us some shows here and there. Great band.
I find it amazing how I can’t remember what I walked into another room for, but remember this word for word. Haven’t heard it in many years! Love you 2!
I got to be on the summer of 99 and Beyond Creed cruise. It was so awesome to see Creed back together, people on the cruise loved every second of their performances, during their shows, the whole crowd was singing every word to all their songs, some songs you could just hear Scott Stapp singing over the crowd singing. amazing experience. More Creed to listen to is "Faceless Man", "Rain". You should also listen to his solo stuff, "Purpose for Pain," "Gone too soon." And Alter Bridge "Blackbird", "Watch over you", and "Open you eyes." Love your channel, keep it up, music is what joins us all together.
Have listened to them since before they were even on the radio. They are also awesome live. I've talked to Scott a couple times years ago just before they released "With Arms Wide Open". Good guy.
This was my gateway song into Creed. However I remember playing this song for a friend and his life wasn't where he wanted it. He had tears in his eyes when the song was done, it made a big impact on his life.
Yay! So glad y'all finally got to react to this one!! Scott Stapp has got one of the most richest baritone voices just like Eddie Vedder of Pearl Jam! Just like Pearl Jam, Creed also has some very introspective songs. Glad y'all liked it!
I’m going to see Creed in concert in Alpharetta, GA this month. I never thought I would get to see them, but I have made changes in my life that have allowed us to have the opportunity. I have been clean from my own culprit for almost 8 years now this November. This song has been my favorite song from Creed since my dad played it before he had to leave us for military reasons. It gets me every time. Thanks for not hating on Creed.
This is where my Creed journey began with this particular song back in the late 90's and my 8 year old self was immediately hooked. Now at 32 I love everything they did from My own Prison through Human Clay to Weathered
Creed has reunited and is currently on tour! I'm going to see them in August and I can't wait! You should check to see if they will be touring near you! ❤❤❤❤
Love Creed and I get a little giggle every time I see Jordan react to rock because I remember back when he first reacted to AC/DC and said he didn’t like rock and now look at him he has embarrassed it .
I'm going to see Creed next month! I can't wait. Ya'll should check out Scott's solo work. Especially the new album, and the song Dancing in the Rain. Amazing!
I'm super late, but for anyone reading this, the music video is missing half of the first verse after "alone I drop and kneel" (it's on the album): Silence now the sound My breath the only motion around Demons cluttering around My face showing no emotion Shackled by my sentence Expecting no return Here there is no penance My skin begins to burn
❤Always my favorite Creed song. This just works in every way. It really is a perfect studio recording. This is from their debut album from 1997 and of course they wrote this song. Jay this is considered Grunge and their later stuff is Post Grundge.
This is their first single and I remember getting a promo cd single from a record store as a means of creating a buzz. For me this is their greatest moment.
This song is special to me I was idk 12_13 when it came out. It's a very powerful song it was when I first heard it and all of these years later it still is. My own prison is so relatable for someone who has been an addict. Am I fan of the softer stuff not at all but Creed had something special here. It's definitely a song that marks my youth and takes me back to the late 90s.
It is so wonderful not only listening to you two and your thoughts on this kind of music, but watching you enjoy this. Closing your eyes and getting into the movement and the rhythm - you two are such a joy to watch!
Im pretty sure this is the first single they ever put out. I remember being 15 and listening to this album front to back days on days.. man those were the times. I love this song. thanks for taking me back to those days!
Mark Tremonti definitely deserves all the credit he gets for his phenomenal guitar work, but I really overlooked how great his voice is on this song until now. When I was younger, I didn’t even realize he shared vocal duties, because his vocals are similar to Scott’s, but they go together so well on this song.
yay! I love Creed so much!!!! PLEASE check out Alterbridge, which is like Creed x100000. All the band members from Creed, but with the most AMAZING lead singer, Myles Kennedy. He legit has one of the BEST voices out there. Do Alterbridge- Open Your Eyes as your first song by them.
I wasn't happy that Creed had broken up, but most people could see it coming. After the first time hearing Open Your Eyes, I was content that we'd still have a great band to continue that sound with. Just with a tenor voice instead of a baritone.
Saw them in concert back in the beginning, was a great show. I've never understood the hate, Scott's voice is somehow smooth and gritty at the same time.
As a Christian this song moves me like no other. If you ever get a chance read up about where Scott Stapp was (mentally and spiritually)when he wrote this.
This song made me want to write and perform my own music. To this day still one of my favorite bands. My first introduction to Mark Tremonti as well. One of the greatest rock guitarists of all time.
I'd just like to point out this is from the 90s. Jay has come around to the nineties but sometimes he still seems on the fence even though there are so many artists he raves about from the nineties. Just a fun, friendly reminder that this is just one more band he loves from this era. Love your reviews!
Just saw them live 9-1-2024 "summer of 99 tour" they sounded just the same, it was amazing. I dare anyone one of faith not to raise the head (and hands) up high when creed is performing. If you get the chance, go see them. You won't regret a single moment. 3 doors down wad also amazing. Don't sleep on 90s rock bands, they still got it!
Creed set the stage for all of the members to make tons of music. After they broke up from Scott, the other members became Alter Bridge where the singer has killer vocals at a higher range. Scott has 2 or 3 solo albums and the lead guitarist from Mark Tremonti has several albums with his own band, Tremonti. The rabbit hole from here is large, I recommend checking out Dying Machine by Tremonti and Overcome by Creed which was the first song from the album they did when they reunited.
Man I was such a huge Creed fan from like 13-16. Great music, still listen to them to this day. People who don't like Creed can leave me alone with that ha!
One of their songs you still haven't done that I really like is "One Last Breath". You might give that a listen.... It is about someone regretting their choices in life. Thank you for your reactions. ❤
Great song, great album. Love Creed! I love the track "Pity for a dime" from the same album (wasn't released as a single). "Bullets" , "Freedom Fighter" & "Who's got my back" from the 'Weathered' album are also stand-outs for me!
This is one of their best songs as well as Torn from the first album. My Own Prison and Torn were on the demo tape they sent to radio stations trying to get discovered.
This song sets you up with the clean vocals/guitars for the first few minutes, then they dump that hard rock style on you which makes it more impactful
Man, I did not know that Mark sang the chorus! I thought it was an overlay with Scott's "and I said ohhhhhhhh". I have ALWAYS loved this banger. And can we mention the base guitar in this please? Wow.
Not a huge Creed fan but I LOVE this song. Maybe the fact that it's a bit more early 90s grungy vibe is part of it but the lyrics are absolutely phenomenal too
3:55 Exactly Jay this was in that cool period of Nu metal, Grudge rock where it was coming out of the 90's and really helped me. Creed, Stand, Counting Crows, Hootie & Blowfish, Nickleback, Puddle of Mud, Linkin Park that went to like 2005/2006 where it became more emo/punk/alt
Great reaction and the meaning of the song can go many different ways according to ones perspective. Scott Stapp is a Christian (as I am too) and I hear "My own prison" speaking of the cross as the key to freedom and redemption as he reflects on his struggles both past and present. That's how I've always heard it🙂
“Whats this life for” will always be my favorite Creed song. It was my introduction to Creed song.
Same
love that song but my own prison album is what broke them thru to stardom. torn is another great song
I traded a PS1 copy of Twisted Metal to someone that had 2 of this back then. Whats is my fave Creed song
25 years later I still can't figure out why Creed got so much crap from the pundits. They put out some great music. It's good to see them getting some love.
All criticism was much deserved.
Why?
@@jimhicks4188Because they were totally derivative of Pearl Jam. Nothing original. At least Alterbridge was original and had a better vocalist
This happens when a mid band gets real popular. Same thing happened to Nickelback.
I LOVE the Lyrics.. Gabriel stands and confirms.." I'VE CREATED MY OWN PRISON"
"My own Prison" has ALWAYS been my favorite CREED song. Creed has always had their own sound and feel. Great reaction you two. I always enjoy watching!
I literally screamed when I got notified!!! This song…. I forget sometimes how much I love Creed and how clever Scott Stapps lyrics are!! ❤❤❤
Scott has a lovely wife.
there is nothing clever about his lyrics---embarrassing.
@@MichaelGris-u2othat's just not accurate at all lol
@@ryanm776 The lyrics are embarrassingly bad. Stapp is a nut-job alcoholic who writes tedious lyrics about a non-existent fake god.

"Torn" and "What If" are bangers...
Torn is my absolute favorite!
I hope they react to these
@jadenruiz1722 me too brutha...
Faceless man and weathered
This is my favorite song from Creed. And you are right they have their own sound.
Yep, one they quietly acquired from Pearl Jam.
They stole their sound from Pearl Jam, and were 8 years late to the party. Horrible embarrassing lyrics. Nutty druggy-alcoholic singer.
@@bellodradelol. That’s what I thought when Jay said “they have their own sound”. 😂
Nothing but a cheap Pearl Jam rip off. Garbage band.

What’s This Life For will also Blow You Away and I Think Amber will connect with the Lyrics and the way Scott Sings them
Mark Tremonti is an absolute beast on the guitar. His solo albums would make Jay happy. His Alterbridge stuff is great as well.
Agreed, I have tried to get so many reactors to check out Alter Bridge.
and even if Jay knew of Mark’s solo charity project where he sings like Frank Sinatra
@@davidsanders5788 check out the fable sphere, he’s done every AB song

Alter Bridge are amazing! Movie crossover: lead singer Myles Kennedy was in the movie Rock Star, the one with Mark Wahlberg and Jennifer Aniston.
They are finally getting back together! One of the best lead singers in my opinion
Great! Are they releasing a new album?
I just saw them live and they blew me away! Absolutely perfect performances from every band member. You should see if they're playing anywhere near you.
Man! Creed and 3 Doors Down are coming to Corpus Christi TX days before my birthday. Can't wait to go check them out. 🤘
