  • I was wrong about a calorie deficit.. Kind of.
A calorie deficit is simply staying that you are eating less calories than you are burning. This is the simple law of thermodynamics that allows you to lose weight.
In this video I talk about how a the principles of a calorie deficit isn't inherently inaccurate, it's more so the implementation of a calorie deficit.
I aim to help give you the top 3 mistakes people make when they go to implement a calorie deficit in this video.
I hope it helps and if you enjoy the video, feel free to leave a thumbs up & subscribe to the channel!

Maaannn you are on my street today! This video was RIGHT ontime. I've been a little overwhelmed with the nutrition piece of my fitness journey. Even though im getting at least 10,000 steps daily, have been consistent in working out 3 to 4 times a week (which was like pulling teeth for me lol/ never thought I would actuallyWANT to workout lol) and have been incorporating AND enjoying weightlifting/ strength training. I've went from a size 14 to now a size 10. My mom tummy isn't flat yet though lol🤦‍♀️ but I'll take it. I've been so hard on myself and losing sight of these major changes I've made since November of last year. I've changed my habits of eating but I still enjoy a cookie or doughnut every now and again 🙃 and that's ok . Your videos are awesome! Thanks for sharing!

I think this is such great content, per usual Eric!
I was just doing a study TODAY for a group I lead about how small habits, whether positive or negative, store up into results, if we keep at them long enough. Also, that we don’t rise to the level of our goals, we fall to the level of our systems.
What I love about your videos, are systems that you explain to carry us to the goal.
Mentioning your channel to the group tonight! 😉

omg this was the best video. I’ve been getting frustrated with my calorie deficit bc I assume I should be seeing crazy results by now.. (I’m only like a month in, lol) & I’ve fucked up on many days which is OKAY! Things take time. Appreciate the reminder! 💪🏼✨

That last point really stuck with me. This “new life” of implementing lifestyle change will soon become my norm because this is a forever thing lol. So there really is no rush. I’ve always struggled with my nutrition and I’m finally learning that it’s really about being intentional every single day and for the rest of my life. Thank you for this video. It was incredibly helpful.

Bingeing your channel and you just provide so many gems! so many a-ha moments thank you for all of your videos and the work that you put into this. When you said make this be the last time you start & the first time you commit it really hit home and the way you explain things is so much better than all the quickfix garbage out there which I have admittedly been listening to and it’s definitely not working. Started this week for the last time ever :-) I am still unclear on calories, I watched all of your videos (including the one for shorties) but I am 5’2, 44yrs & 150 lbs which is my all-time high and wondering if I should do my ultimate goal weight (117) or my first goal (129) still not sure on whether I should multiplied by 10 or 12 like you said so many times it seems like too many calories to eat 1400 considering my TDEE AT Desk job & limited activity but plan to get more steps and add in weight training from your 52 exercise program in the next few weeks. Thanks again for all you do you deserve it so many more subscribers and I’m sure you will get them once people discover you and all of your amazing informative videos!! 🥰

I'm literally in a battle with killing my overwhelmed outlook. I barely know anything about strength training / weight lifting. Thank you for this video. I keep telling myself to take it easy. Start very small and eventually everything will fall into place. Even if I am going to the gym just to use 3 different machines. 😅 I'm looking at long term, being patient, and don't set high expectations.

Thank you for your videos! I have done yo-yo diets my entire adult life. This year I decided I needed a change for my health (I've reached the age of where health issues start in my family and I do not want to go down that path if I can prevent it). I wasn't sure how to eat healthy and not starve myself. In June, I started following your videos and Instagram. I've lost 6 pounds. I've been in a moderate calorie deficit following some of your guidelines (eat 5x's a day, protein, fruit, veggies, one BAS). I have enjoyed eating this way and still work in some treats. I feel like I've finally found a way to eat for the rest of my life that doesn't involve restricted diets and starving. The pounds are coming off slowly, and that's okay....I'm learning so much on this journey to healthy. Exercise is something I've enjoyed for several years, but im learning to make it work better for my body (i.e. weights). Thank you, Eric!

Im also in it for the health and avoiding my family genetics. I started weight training a year ago and have lowered my blood pressure, and lost 3% of my body fat percentage and increased muscle mass. Clothes are looking better and I am getting stronger too. This year I added in doing walks 3x a week started at 10-15min walks, now doing 45mins. Next I will be focusing on my sleep. Can I recommend a book for you -Forever Strong by Dr. Gabrielle Lyon. As an older adult, I think weight training and building muscle is what ultimately makes the fat loss sustainable and benefits us not just physically but hormonally and mentally, especially as we age.

I find the walking part quite difficult, even though I am not a lazy person. I like hiking, I workout everyday but for some reasons I cannot convince myself to go and “just” take a walk. I am thinking about getting a walking pad though because I am more consistent with my workout as well if I get to do it at home. 😊

    • @vanessahobbes3072
      @vanessahobbes3072 Рік тому

Get the walking pad! I struggled staying disciplined with walking, but it’s easier now to hop on, even in my pjs for 5-15 min. I still like going for a walk outside and lifting weights, but the walking pad really made a difference in my step count. I work from home so taking a little break to walk a few minutes has also really helped me mentally.

This is very true. I went on an overseas study program to Europe for about 6 months, and ate literally whatever I wanted + exponentially more than I would’ve at home.
Thought for sure I would gain weight but couldn’t tell since I didn’t own a scale then. Was so surprised that I ended up losing a couple of kilos when I got back and finally weighed myself.
Over the past few months, my weight has steadily gone back up.
The factor? I attribute it solely to walking all over when I was in Europe, all the time. Think I was averaging like 8-10k steps daily as compared to now back home where I take public transport to most places.
Low intensity workouts work for sure, and the great thing is you don’t feel like it’s a workout if you make it part of your daily routine. Thanks for the content!

Question: I saw somewhere that you should do a deficit for two weeks then eat at maintenance for two weeks and continue that so your body doesn’t adapt? Thoughts? I’ve been in a deficit for two weeks now and don’t want to change it up because it’s working and I feel good.
The thing that has changed for me lately to allow me to stay in a calorie deficit is focusing on my protein! I have more energy and don’t crave food as much

I think, I set moderate calorie deficit and I think is sustainable for me. After one week I don't see any actual weight loss, just fluctuation.
How long I should continue, to be sure I have to change it?
I am 5'2 and 122lbs, currently eating on average 1400kcal. I move rather little during the week, bit more on the weekends. For now, I don't want to make any changes in my activity level, as I have no reference point of how much calories I actually need...
