The only rule on covering Stairway is you don't cover stairway unless you're Nancy & Ann Wilson
Frank Zappa did a pretty decent version. The band played it fairly straight (although they occasionally slipped into reggae), and the vocal was shared between Ike Willis on the first part and Bobby Martin at the end. When it came to the solo, though, they actually played the original Jimmy Page guitar solo - but transcribed, harmonized in five parts, and played by the horn section.

Ann Wilson's vocals at 70 years of age are absolutely STUNNING. I don't know any other vocalist (especially a rock vocalist) who has stood the test of time better than her.
Ann's like a good vintage bottle of well stored wine - precious and incomparable. I love the grace of the years in her singing at this age ♥♥♥

This is how pros do it without auto-tune. BTW, these are TWO of the greatest singers in history. They harmonize just as easily and naturally as most people breathe. Nancy is often underrated, both as a singer and a guitar player. She's quite fantastic at both.

They're both wonderful. I'd say Chrissie Hynde and Rickie Lee Jones are tied with Ann and Nancy. Side note: Nancy just released her first (!) solo album in 2021.
Ann is 69 and Nancy is 65... I love them both and will always be one of the best Hard Rock groups of all time...in an all male dominated world of hard rock that says it all !!!

The original sound wasn't flute, it was a quartet of "recorders".. a flute-like sound no doubt, but not completely accurate.. when my band covers it, we use a keyboard on a modified flute sound patch setting.. close as we can get..

@@summermcpherson8209 Wow, how can I pick a favorite Heart song? At that time I suspect only the first album (Dreamboat Annie) was released. That album exploded onto the music scene like a nuclear detonation. The album was flawless. Magic Man, Crazy On You, and Dreamboat Annie were in constant play on the radio. (Anyone remember radio?) But the rest of the album also got air time which was very unusual.
Those were the days, my friend. We thought they'd never end.

marlene andrejko I adore Ann, but her voice hasn’t gotten better since the 70’s. One shouldn’t actually compare Ann then to now because her voice has deepened and become rougher ( higher range) with age. It just happens to almost all singers as they get older. Her range and sound when she was younger was incredible and EFFORTLESS. The higher notes from the earlier songbook are not reachable anymore, but the lower-mid range is still wonderful.

Best singer of a generation by a country mile and still has it all. Back in the day when all my friends had Madonna and Sam fox fixations it was Ann that got my shorts twitching she sure was my teenage fantasy. Love Heart and the fact they still sound awesome today i just hope they tour the UK in the future so I can finally see them live.

I am From Tacoma Washington they played all through the area when they were young they where a great Zeppelin cover band and they evolved from there to be who they are today it was cool to see our local bar band turn into superstars
It’s a real kick when the artist feeds off the crowd. It’s a be in the moment connection that doesn’t happen often enough. Also I can never take my eyes off of Nancy 😍

Wow, my favorite voice still sounds amazing!!! Not only does she sound great, she has aged quite nicely. I love these two ladies, and have for 46 yrs., seen them live 3 or 4 times. And was never disappointed with any of them. And let's face it. No one but no one can cover a Zeppelin tune like the Wilson sisters 😊.

Anne and Nancy have always been tuned into the Zeppelin aura, any time they play a Zeppelin song it's always true to its identity.
During a Howard stern interview Ann said they wanted to be led zeplin, amazing what to sisters created.

I have seen heard HEART do many ZEP tunes...but this FLUTE.....major kick ass....we all know...great vocals..great music..great attitide...classy ladies.....all line ups of HEART are great....this is a happening.....HEART is COOL....no need for pyrotechnics or lazers or leather pants ( though i do enjoy KISS & Judas Priest )...but these ladies are in a class all by them selves.FIRST CLASS.....Rock On❤..

I saw them 42 years ago in Asbury Park, NJ on their "Little Queen" tour. That night they did Zeppelin's "Rock n Roll" during the encore and dedicated it to Elvis who died earlier that day. We're all a little older, but they still sound great!

I grew up listening to Heart back in the 70's. Here we are in 2019 and they're still terrific performers and Ann is just amazing singing Zep songs! What a set of pipes.

It's great that after 45 years, Ann can carry 90% of her vocals. Most singers are fried well before that. Just amazing. And she never held back either. Full out Full On!
Ann's parts are hard to sing. Even a challenge for Ann now, but she still makes it work.

Could be Nancy was having an off day. Phoning it in they say. Maybe not real happy with the new band members. Nancy & Ann has been going through alot of band members lately. Who knows??

I have been fortunate enough to have seen Heart live four times. Beginning at their early, early 70’s years.
We seen them at DTE in MI. Aug.2019. Ann's voice is still amazing and better than I remember in the 70"s. I am still in Love with Nancy's guitar work, Damm so good! They both look great!

When Ann said in their book that "It had been hard to watch my sister go through such pain" (talking about Nancy's separation from Cameron Crowe), I could only imagine what she was referring to. Now, watching this video, the sadness on Nancy's face and her mood being so off from what she always is on stage (and even off), I get the vivid picture of what it's like to see Nancy "go through such pain". And yes, it´s really hard. Only now it's because of her own older sister. There are no knowing glances, no looks of mutual pride/admiration, no interaction whatsoever. It seems to me that now (January 2024) they are in a better place after seeing their December presentations. Nancy seems more animated, more integrated (or at least trying to be) with Ann's band. I don't feel like they are completely fine, but they are surely better than in 2019. I was delighted to discover in Nancy's happy birthday post for Ann in 2020, her husband's comment: "Nance is a loving sister and a class act. Love you so much for putting your love out there. LOVE RULES." I feel like he wanted to express more than what he was actually saying. But we are in 2024, and I hope everything continues to improve between them.
