      @@michaelkirkby6306 I saw the sisters interviewed on a Sunday morning show and that performance was discussed. It seems there was preparation prior with the musicians and choir but because of a commitment the ladies flew in from Miami to Washington just a few hours before the Kennedy Center event..they had done that song many times before but not with that arrangement. They had been up for hours between the Miami concert and the Kennedy Center show. Absolute professionals!

      @@cronistamundano8189 I recommend you see and hear "An All-Star Tribute to Brian Wilson" at Radio City Music Hall (2001). Sir George Martin introduced the show-stopper: "Good Vibrations". As Martin said, "G.V." is notoriously difficult to do live, "but this band can do it." This Band = Ann & Nancy Wilson fronting choristers (Harlem Boys Choir), instrumentalists/harmonies (Wondermints + Taylor Mills = The Brian Wilson Band), and an operatic baritone (Jubilant Sykes) for the Mike Love parts. It is not as transcendent as their "Stairway to Heaven", but it is truly impressive. The Wilson Sisters gave great tribute to the Wilson Brothers (Brian and deceased brothers, Dennis and Carl).

      Condolences to you on the loss of your son. I almost lost mine twice and I can't imagine how that feels. I'll be 77 next month and love the rock songs from the 60s and 70s especially as a lot of them came out during the Vietnam war. I never went to any rock concerts for various reasons but now I am living them on my deck with a cigar and a gin & tonic. I can play them as loud as I want on my 10 acres.
      BTW, your comment saved me from repeating the praises of Heart and Led Zeppelin, better than I could ever have. I would love to have the instrumental section they played when my soul separates from my Earthly body. Cheers, Bob from upstate NY.

      I never got to go to any concerts as a young adult. However, I did take my Son to see Rod Stewart in Pensacola, Chris fell in love with the music of our generation. He bought all the Beatles albums.
      Enjoy the concerts thanks to UA-cam. Ones I loved was listening to Steve Perry of Journey. I hear that all the music now is auto tuned before they let us hear it. Too bad. Randy Meister's voice was more perfect as it was. Perfection should be left alone.

    This will go down in history as one of the greatest performances in rock. Ann Wilson had complete control of that stage and of her instrument. The addition of the chorus was a fantastic surprise element. There was not a "miss" in this whole thing. I've watched it at least a dozen times since the original performance and it never ceases to give me goosebumps. The fact that she could sing this at 62, after years of touring and recording, and still nail every note while making it look easy speaks volumes about her vocal prowess. She's nearly unmatchable in music - regardless of age.

    I can not watch this enough. It is hard to believe that "only" 39M views. I can only think of one other voice that might be able to do what Ann does in this cover...in front of arguably the greatest band ever...and that is Pat Benatar, but even then...Ann is the perfect choice. I don't know who had the more difficult job for this, Ann singing in front of Robert Plant or Shane Fontayne (guitar solo) playing in front of Jimmy Page...and both of them just nailing it. For those under 40 who think Beyonce and Taylor Swift are true superstars, you can bet your last dollar that neither can pull this off. Pure excellence without digital backing or sampling. Thank you Heart, Zeppelin, and Kennedy Center!!

    The most beautiful thing about the whole deal is how she never tries to make it about herself, but she's always concentrating on being a messenger of the original song. But - in the process - the perfect delivery, the raw emotion, and her talent makes it hard to ignore how very few people can top this performance.
    Everyone should at least experience once this song. When the chorus comes in it's hard not to feel goosebumps all over.

    • @Magneticitist
      @Magneticitist Рік тому +25

      Honestly she sang it better IMO. It's subjective of course but the original lacked in timing and tone in certain places while Ann's lacked in the same emotional almost-crying lines. She not only 'corrected' some of the delivery but also did stay true to some of the small little details in the inflections and timing. Everything about this rendition is probably better than anything Led Zeppelin could have done live mainly because of how well Ann can belt out notes lol it's crazy. They are sort of harmonizing tracks like a chorus in the studio version, Plant runs out of breath live, and Ann at over 60 years old seems to dominate that vocally. It's not to put down Led Zeppelin to any degree but I look at it like taking a worldwide classic song and finding a way to dream team it into sounding better than ever before.

Supposedly they all practiced together for six months to get ready for the concert. So he was no stranger to playing with or in front of the band. It's like saying move to Sugar Sugar from the Archies to ... something else. No matter how well you sing it, it's just ... no. Ronstadt though? Take another look, in case you forgot. At 5:42, when the curtain in the back is rising to reveal a choir of about 70 singers, the song hits its apex and Jimmy and John are just grinning and getting excited, but Robert Plant remains stoic, though visibly emotional. You just don't know what he is thinking until the end, when he is the first one to stand and applaud, with a giant smile on his face. What it must feel like to be so honored for your life's work at the end of a career.
    For me, watching this is almost a spiritual experience, especially the lyrics at the end, "When all are one and one is all."
