Jagged Little Pill is such an amazing album. So much righteous anger.
Uninvited should have been on that album too
like a punch in the face, in a good way (as weird as that sounds even to myself)
I wish those times back when someone bought a new cd and brought it along...sitting in circles, listening to and interpretating it
Much like Lauryn Hill's masterpiece "Miseducation of Lauryn hill", jagged little pill is one of the greatest albums of all time. Both are utter perfection!
I was a metal head from the eighties. Grew up in the whole scene. I was never one to care what others thought of me. When I first heard Jagged Little Pill at a house party in 96, I was immediately hooked. The intensity and rawness of her singing and the naked emotions conveyed in her voice. It was so metal without being metal for me. It was like nothing I had ever heard. I listened to it hundreds of times. One of my all time favourite albums! Love from Ontario, Canada 😍
Boy, when Jagged Little Pill was released I was absolutely blown away by her.
It is phenomenally rare to hear one open up all of life's wounds right there for all to see. I had this CD on loop for months on end.
Congrats again on 200K subs [whoo hoo.... YAY.... ALRIGHT]
Me too!
I feel the same way now about Billie Eilish.
Maybe it is not as rare today. Alanis spoke of deeply personal things she was still dealing with at the time.
Hey! Check out my reaction to Billie here: ua-cam.com/video/snpvbKJIWPU/v-deo.html
I didn't realize I needed Alanis reactions in my life, but I do
She has an amazing band as well. Check out the entire MTV Unplugged album if you have not. It is phenomenal. :)
The emotion You Ougtha Know and the whole unplugged album holds is just simply amazing and beautiful ❤️
When I was a kid in the 90s we had to pretend we didn’t like Alanis morissette, being boys and all.
In front of friends: “oh god turn that crap off”
Alone: “🎶AND IIIIM HEEEREE TO REMIIIND YOOOUUU🎶
😂
being scared of being considered gay and all *
SquidBag Well considering i was a teenaged boy and it was the 90s, I hadn’t had much time to contemplate such wisdom yet. No boy wants to be ridiculed by their peers for liking something not cool. Plus my mom really liked alanis morissette
Tee lmao!!! This is SO true
Can relate. But when college came around in 05, they had this song on Rock Band and every guy in my dorm knew it. Fun times.
Jagged Little Pill blew my mind when it came out, and I was a staunchly metal/hard rock fan at the time. She was just undeniable, great voice, great song writing.
"Feels so honest" +1
I love the portuguese subtitles 😂
I saw Alanis Morrsette and I clicked. No brainer. Brings be back~ For those of you that don't know, in the movie Dogma, she's God lol
Same, lol 👼
And in this world Alanis is my Queen.
“That i would be good” is my favourite song of her. Gotta love Alanis.
The voice of God...Those that have seen Dogma know what I'm talking about.
@cclark101 Alanis was singing in this video, that's the voice of God here.
@@4freebird69 alanis was god in dogma, Alan rickman was "metatron" the voice of god.
@@kompound52 Are you not understanding?
The comment is about this video. Alan Rickman is not in this video. The voice you just heard in this video, is the voice of God .
@@stevensmith328 you are the one that referenced dogma.
And yeah we get it, alanis was God in the movie and its her singing. Was playing off that since you said "voice of god", it was another reference.
My farts are
I'm Brazilian and I'm really kind baffled that the video is subtitled in Brazilian Portuguese.
This is interesting... As a German I didn't understand her when I was a kid. All I could understand was "It's not fair!" and this alone and the emotions she put into it was enough to connect to her. I love her so much and even more now that I can finally understand what the lyrics are about!
This is one of my favorite albums of all time. Jagged Little Pill had so many amazing songs
ALANIS is wonderful
Absolutely brutal for me... such nostalgia.
Brilliant track from the record where Flea goes beast mode... but this is just screaming my youth from the back of my heart.
Alanis has been my absolute favorite musical artist since 1995 and I believe she always will be! Beth, this is a great critique!
Everyone of her albums is fucking incredible. I love Alanis Morrisette!
Watch her sing this on Howard Stern last year , she sounded incredible and was stunningly beautiful
+1
Yes I absolutely agree with you...
Howard stern became everything he used rile against on his show. Because he is so fake. This guy has been promoting the Russia gate hoax. For god sake.
Hey Bud, just called to tell you I heard you play on Howard Stern. Ok bud, talk to you later
Best version shes ever done and she didn't even look like she was trying
This is pretty mellow, I like the live performance she did of this song on David Letterman it was epic and angry and aggressive 💖
I love Alanis, she's amazing.
Please, a reaction to Dolores O'Riordan from The Cranberries, a very unique voice.
Dolores O'Riordan :)
@@spiderfishx jaja you're right, I was thinking in a book from Stephen King.
Hey! Here is my reaction to The Cranberries: ua-cam.com/video/ZXlD8IkxO6Q/v-deo.html
Omg I love Dolores too!
Do "Uninvited" live at the grammys I believe.
I love that song!!
I still can't believe that she didn't actually release it as a single so the big hit from that soundtrack was that crappy Goo Goo Dolls song
This
Happy you did this reaction. This is my favourite Alanis song.
Funny you found a clip with Portuguese (pt-br) subtitles to watch... #funfact. Loooove Ms. Morissette. Loved this analysis, thanks!!
I Love her passion 🤯
Spot on. You have a great ability to read the singer.
the power of Alanis voice to communicate is so powerful that for a moment you forget that she is singing, and you can believe that is a friend telling you a story
I love Alanis! She is definately the artist who influenced my vocal style the most as a youngster trying to break away from such strict singing habits from being trained in opera.
Alanis was quite a phenomena in Brazil (hence the portuguese subtitles). Maybe you should react to Robert Plant?
I could listen to that album (unplugged) from start to finish more than once. So great that sort of emotional creciendo toward the end. It was quite epic. I love her lyrics, they are so rich... and long. So well thought
What I have seen in concert is she can sing those notes sitting down. Amazing voice!
I remember watching this on tv that year and just loved it. This is my favorite live version of this song ever.
My first CD I bought myself. 😊
Might well have been my first album, it's a long time ago now!
Jesus, I've never heard this live version before, its something so special. I had Jagged Little Pill growing up as a kid!
Love Alanis, you could react to each performance in this concert, it's amazing, i remember being obsessed with it when it came out like 20 years ago on MTV, how time flies.
Great concert, as well! She's an amazing performer!
Que legal que você escolheu um vídeo com a legenda em português do Brasil 🇧🇷 fine
Thank you for this reaction video. In You oughta know unplugged Alanis shows sooooo much raw emotion, it's impossible not to feel it...❤️
I'd love to see you take on a Tom Waits song next. His voice was once described by a critic as "sounding like it was soaked in a vat of bourbon, left hanging in the smokehouse for a few months, and then taken outside and run over with a car." One of my favorite vocalists and definitely unique!
Hey! I've just done a reaction to Tom Waits - Chicago. Take a look here: ua-cam.com/video/dMHJqd-lpsE/v-deo.html
@@BethRoars Nice! Can't wait to check it out!
Alanis is one of the best singers/songwritters I've know. 😍
Yes... I do also appreciate Shakira.
@@henrimachado5581 me too

I can't possibly understand how brazillian fellow folks haven't mob crowded in this video yet, considering she's reaciting to Alanis on a PT-BR subtitled video. :P
I love Alanis too! She was there for me, when no one else was. ♥️♥️
I’ve always loved her!!
This was so good!!!! Gotta do more Alanis for sure in future episodes.
Such a beautiful song.
5 min out and 7.4k already🔥🔥@bethroars you are killing the game never stop.
The perfect singer!
I remember when this song was in heavy airplay on the radio here in the USA. My best friend and myself would be road tripping to see our girlfriends. Every time this song came on the radio, once an hour at least, we would look at each other and yell, THAT ANGRY SCORNED CHICK IS ON THE RADIO AGAIN!!! Then laugh hysterically while we sang along with Alanis. We are two guys. Good times.
I was a huge fan of Alanis in the 90's. I love her voice.
Woman I’ve never really paid attention closely to your craft, you are absolutely brilliant keep on teaching us please
Your roar in the intro is just the cutest thing.
Thanks x
FINALLY ALANIS!!! THANK YOUUUUUUUUU 💙💙💙💙💙
She's awesome and so are you. Thanks for the video.
I can't believe how good she is live. Damn.
Nice one Beth - I've always like Alanis: she's a really original and interesting songwriter as well as a distinctive singer.
If you want to review stuff from this era, why not do something by Skunk Anansie? Skin is a really fantastic singer (there's footage on UA-cam of her singing with _Pavarotti_ and holding her own!). They reformed in 2008 so there's new stuff as well as classic stuff to listen to.
Also: did I just get the FIRST comment in? Bloody Hell - that's never happened to me before!
Fiona apple also would be a nice one from this era
I remember seeing Skunk Anansie live in the 90's, and again a couple of times since they reformed. The band is really tight, and Skin has a really amazing set of pipes on her.
There's also another excellent Alanis live performance here on UA-cam of her doing "Mary Jane" off this same album. (Search "Alanis Morissette - Mary Jane - JLP Live.") I'd love to see a reaction of that as well.
Alanis really is underrated. She's probably known best as a "one hit wonder," but that really shortchanges her on how talented she was (and continues to be), and how much passion she has always put into her work.
I agree, and while breakout singles are both necessary and a curse I really liked the Entanglement album. It's richly intimate.
Even hearing this version of You Oughta Know without the 90's thrashing Alt Rock guitars makes the song new and dimensional again.
I love Alanis 😍
I'm glad you mentioned Alanis' yodel, or flip as you call it (chest to head voice). It's one of her signature vocal feats. I adore her voice. It's so unique.
I was a kid when Jagged Little Kid came out. My mom constantly played the CD. She has such a wonderful voice. I still listen to the CD,
thanks glad i found this
An outstanding album !
Such a defining moment of the 90s, I think pretty much every kid growing up then had that album, regardless of their usual favourite genre.
I came across this video and through Beth's coaching analyzations I was able to understand a new side of music I never paid attention to.
Very interesting. Thank you! Great job!
PS: you obviously got caught by the amazing voice and lost in the it's magnificence XD
You should have taken the video of Letterman, her TV debut of that single You Oughta Know. That was so intense & full-throttle emotionally charged singing. She was 19 y/o at that time
The complete Unplugged from her is so amazing.
I'm excited to hear this and other songs sung by the cast of the Broadway musical they created based on the album Jagged Little Pill
Great video Beth keep it up
Ooh i really like this performance! I like Alanis well enough but have never really explored her live performances and this makes me quite intrigued to delve into her work a bit more.
One or my favorite albums when it came out. Still love it
Wish I could ❤️ this Bethisode.
I was listened her when i was 13.... Impressive artist! Thank you Beth, you are gorgeous like her... :-)
one of my favorite female vocalists
Good jab beth😀
My dear, departed friend, Owen Stevens, was particularly fond of this song.
He had a live in girlfriend who left, for no good reason.
My poor friend never recovered. But this song gave him a small measure of comfort.
Cancer took him from us, not suicide.
I miss him.
Thank you Madonna for your greatest contribution to music bringing Ms Morrisette to our ears and hearts.
Thanks for listening
Beth, would love to see your reaction to Uninvited. The 1999 Grammy live performance is a good one.
saw alanis in her hometown Ottawa canada when she was a teen long before her fame
Hell Yes #AlanisMorissette ❤🎧👍
90's Goddess💜
This was a massive LP love it
Her voice is perfect.
All my love to her voice... to her emotions...
nunca había visto a la cabecita de fuego tan concentrada en un video!!! love it!!!
portuguese subtitle on video kkkkkk Cool!! I'm brazilian
The strings arrangement is outstanding.
Very nice!
Rawr! Love that bit
nice tone.sweet tone of voice
Perfect video react 👏👏👏 She has a unique voice. There is nothing like it! Alanis's unplugged MTV is timeless and I can't get enough of complimenting the perfect combination of voice, arrangements and ambient acoustics. All perfectly eternalized in this disc unplugged! Please react to "That I Would Be Good" or "Joining You" for this unplugged. thanks😉
From your chill playlist I see you already know Sigur Rós 8D Would love to see you analysing Jónsi's vocals :) cheers from Brazil!
Been waiting forever for alanis and you pick this....
As always, great job breaking down this vocal.
As far as interesting voices are concerned, Jewel is one of those that always strikes me. Anything from her "Pieces of You" album. Especially Who Will Save Your Soul, Foolish Games, You Were Meant for Me.
Also Michelle Shocked, Anchorage or Memories of East Texas.
One of the best records of the 90's.
One of my favourites! :) Could you do a reaction to Beth Gibbons (of Portishead)? One of the PNYC Live ones, maybe Roads? 🥰
Orjonast Yes!
My parents' gift to me on my 16th birthday was "Jagged Little Pill." It was defining....
The video of Alanis singing is subtitled in portuguese
Please react to Jewel - Who Will Save Your Soul Live 7/25/1999 99 Woodstock
Nice. She throws all her vocal tricks into that performance... almost bizarre
Please don’t
Beth... your voice is MELODIOUSLY SWEET... I enjoy listening your vids with earphones.
Great analysis as always.
I would love to see you react to the Belgian choir Scala & Kolacny Brothers. They are most known for their beautiful, elegic covers of english, belgian, french or german songs. They did cover bands like U2, Radiohead, Nirvana, Rammstein, and many many more.
Pls check out her cover of The Blowers Daughter.
It’s quite a moving piece that shows quite a lot of their strengths. Vocal and dynamic range, touching musical storytelling and they do a great job with harmonies aswell.
They did a cover of You Oughta Know too.
