I hope this observation on how they sing helps you figure out how the voice works better, so you can learn how to make smart choices in your own voice. I think Kelly and Alanis are some of the best pop singers of all time and I wish I sounded like them. I talk about harmonization and stuff. Does anyone read these? I love my dogs.

As someone that came of age when she released Jagged Little Pill, I would like to thank Alanis for singing everything we felt. 😂

My first "big" concert at age 16, I saw Tori Amos and Alanis. I think the chills lasted for weeks. A truly unforgettable experience. It was August 22 (Tori's birthday) I yelled "happy birthday" to her during a set pause. She heard and thanked me. Twelve years later, I gave birth to my daughter on the very same day. They are all linked in my heart forever. That's the power of music ♥

My favorite Alanis song is Your House. The little hidden track where you could feel her pain. We all felt it.

That one, plus Mary Jane and Uninvited are my favorites. I was 15 when Jagged Little Pill was released and I remember it was a PHENOMENON. Alanis spoke to young people about very specific things that we were all experiencing and did so in a way that hadn't been done before and I don't think has been replicated since. JLP remains in my top 5 favorite albums of all time. 🙌

I loved Jagged Little Pill when I was younger (it was an iconic staple of my childhood), kind of fell off of Alanis as I got into other things, then I found out she put out a new album and was touring last yr - total Alanis resurgence for me. I saw her in concert last summer (and will be again this summer) and she was absolutely breathtaking! She sounded so good I thought she was lip-syncing for a moment (she wasnt, there were too many impromptu changes). Its funny that she played God in Dogma bc Im convinced she's an angel lol

Jagged LittlePill was my first album and I love it to this day. Got to see Alanis life last year which was epic. I also absolutely am in awe of Kelly's voice. She can just sing about anything as well or better than the original. Such extraordinary talent.

As someone who was a teen in the 90s, this song was like our anthem. So much nostalgia. Alanis just had a voice that held the pain and anger of a whole generation of young women. And Kelly has one of the best female singing voices in decades. Fight me on it lol I will die on that hill 😂😂😂

You kinda think Kelly might be numb to the privilege of doing this kind of thing at this point having sung with so many icons but of course Alanis released this song when Kelly was a kid so I bet she still thinks back to what young non-famous Kelly Clarkson would think of her now dueting this song with someone she probably idolised. I guess even when you’ve done it all sometimes you have to pinch yourself.
And fully agree that loving Alanis’ voice means you are at the pinnacle of humanity now haha. She’s clearly preserved her voice well, she still sounds great and has her distinctive tone intact at nearly 50.

Happy Holidays Sam 🎉 Jagged Little Pill it's an album that just gets carved into your soul. Alanis and Mr. Ballard were in a complete state of grace, a conjunction of pure talent, passion and just cosmic timing. The musical on Broadway just gave me ALL of the emotions. I could retire after duetting with her 😅

You oughta know is definitely my favorite Alanis song. It's where she switched to alternative rock for the first time and she absolutely nailed it. The song has strong lyrics and she greatly conveyed her emotions through her singing. I could feel her sadness, anger and passion as a teenager and it left an impression.

I’m a head over feet kind of guy. Angry Alanis is fantastic and all but sometimes you just wanna be sweet… but also narsty.
In other news, I was today years old when I found out that Head Over Feet invented the phrase Friend with Benefits.
Man, I should really get on the vocalease karaoke this weekend

Hey Sam. I was wondering something. My brother was a singer song writer. Not famous to anyone but his friends and family.
He used to warm up his voice in a weird way. He told me he invented an exercise to loosen up his vocal cords. He called them lowlows. He would sing the word low lower and lower in pitch as loud as he could while inhaling.
I know it sounds weird but, coming from someone who doesn't sing at all , I myself go from sounding like an old wineo to Dean Martin in 15 minutes. I know it works incredibly well. My question is, is this a known exercise or did my brother really invent it. He passed away a year and a half ago.
If you do try it and it works as well for you and your students and it is unknown to the vocal coach community, and you do endorse this exercise, can you please refer to them as Piazza's lowlows.
As always i think you understand voice and music on a higher level.

I think we all should have achieved this same apex of love for Alanis at LEAST when Kevin Smith made the decision to cast her as God, if not in the year 1995 itself. But I'm willing to make allowances for those who weren't fortunate enough to have been born as a Gen X/Elder Millennial, as I was.
