Nice review thanks. Had a chuckle at the emphasis on cameras to parallel park. I learnt to drive (and parallel park) in Amsterdam in the late 70s. Never use the cameras - I always use the tricks on how to do it that I learned then. I have an Atto3 and love it, including the funky interior - as per your comment it’s not for everyone and this car seems a good option.
Pleasure! 🙏 Boot: 300L with seats up I used to mention the specific capacity but I found it hard to imagine as it’s just numbers on a page so I’ve gone to more practical metrics eg the golf club as a relative measuring stick!
There’s one in the Kona too … I think that might be a space saver though 2024 Hyundai Kona Electric Australia 150kW Premium Walkthrough & Drive ua-cam.com/video/y9MY6RgwE2o/v-deo.html
A full sized spare is nice but I actually think it's wiser to take it out of the boot and leave it in the garage until you go on a trip somewhere. Around town you won't need it 99% of the time and would be better off not carrying the deadweight and having the extra boot space. When you get a flat tyre, you're well within quick reach of someone who can help bring that wheel to you. Having less weight also means you're using less power and can also accelerate faster than other cars. With full spares you're meant to rotate its use with your other tires but I don't think anyone ever does and the result is the tread remains full and even the brand is different to your regular tyres, which means uneven balance, grip, etc making high speed driving not ideal. This is because the tyre is hidden out of sight and out of mind. Seeing it daily in your garage will trigger you to rotate it into use more often. Thoughts?
For mine the DC charge rate is the issue , actually we need to see more DC charge tests in Australia to see it under our conditions in particular summer. But I guess again time consuming.
I did do a Supercharger test in my first Omoda review but admittedly that was indoors: 2025 Chery Omoda E5 Review Australia BX Walkthrough Pricing & Specs ua-cam.com/video/gX4u1ZUZMVU/v-deo.html
Good to see more competition in this segment. I've driven both the Atto3 and the Dolphin i think they're over priced for entry level EV, their China pricing reflects this. If you don't consider shape the Seal Dynamic is head and shoulders better than those 2 for $2k more.
I guess if i choose the Atto3 i need to buy the biscuit spare wheel you had and buy a frunk but also benefiting from OTA updates conversely i can opt for the chery with full sparetyre,a frunk but without OTA. Luckily in South Africa the choice had been made for me, we only get BYD Atto3, Seal and Dolphin, theOMODA ONLY comes in Ice.

What's that noise in the background I'm hearing is that wildlife if so wow at the start in the parking lot. Will be interesting to see how it goes for sales as Chery is already selling their Dino cars in the country.
Looks basically like its ICE cousins but it's apparently built from the ground up as an EV - evidenced by the flat floor (or close enough) in the second row
@@LudicrousFeed Not sure about the source of this. Just based on my year long observations in 4 major cities. You just don't see them on roads. Chery used to be a popular brand a long time ago but their presence is long gone.

Haha yes at a pinch I could probably still revert to “vision-only” when I parallel park 😁 but I gotta say the cameras make it so much easier! 😅
Would you be able to do a video where we can see if it's feasible to get an EV without home charging?
Check out Plugshare to see where your nearest chargers are located
Thanks for the review Tom. Can you mention the boot capacity next time pls
Pleasure! 🙏

@ Thanks Tom….yes the golf club and/or suitcases are also very useful to help us visualise the capacity.
Finally a spare wheel in an EV that's not a Nissan Leaf.

How do the batteries compare between the atto v omoda
Omoda uses the same battery and motor from BYD
Both cars use the same blade batteries from FinDreams (BYD)
@ thanks for that
@@LudicrousFeed
But the pictures in the on line brochure (UK) don't show a Blade battery
Would you say that the EX5 is slightly bigger/roomier than the Atto3 🤔
Um ... The Atto 3 seemed roomier tbh

The Seal is definitely in a class of its own 🥂
Joy is right. Atto3 interior put me off. Wish it’s below 45k drivaway for high spec. Still too expensive to IMHO
The Atto 3 interior is definitely an acquired taste 😁🍸

Looks good. Not a fan of front wheel drive SUVs though.
Yeah a lot of torque steering around corners
I would go for this car over the Atto3 and the power lift gate would be handy from the looks.
Yup the lift gate and the parking camera might be enough to push people to the EX variant …
prefer Atto 3 exterior but interior Omoda is more welcoming.. somehow the rear legroom is not as great?
Yes seemed a bit tight admittedly

Based on my observations in China for the past couple of years, Chery is almost a dying brand
Apparently Chery almost always features in the top 5 OEMs in China?
Among Chinese auto brands, Chery ranks second in sales and first in exports. This is the brand you call "struggling to death"

Sealion7 is suv version of seal
Bigger and faster
Better than this one I guess
Looking forward to doing some local testing when the time comes
