It is great to hear Joy’s comments. She has a real life practical approach. All her comments make perfect sense. Ultimately all car need to have useful features like manual vent controls. Thank you for another great review.
The Blue EV tag though is on anything electrified including Hybrid vehicles at least in the state I live in all the Hybrid Camry Taxi's have them. The hooks in the back you can move around what the holes are for so you can move them around for your grocery bags. Can car camp in it even tall drivers can sleep in the car with bedding when rear seats are flat. We had them at our AEVA Expo in Hobart earlier in the month and the EV5 is a lot bigger than you think possibly Santa Fe size(at least old Santa Fe). Those haptic buttons on the dash other reviewers have mentioned them as well pushing them when doing something on the screen. What about the middle screen with HVAC between that doesn't change can you see it when you drive or do you have to move your head around to see it?(from your camera definitely hidden behind the steering wheel) Efficiency basically due to it being a box on wheels definitely not a Seal or Model 3. Agree Joy, need manual controls at least some why I love my Kona(2024). That storage in the rear in the top spec GT-Line I understand is a cooler so can keep drinks cold in it. Love the light colour interior wouldn't go with the dark interior. I think I'd prefer the EV3 as it's Niro/Kona size and the Niro EV is disappearing off the order books in Germany now the EV3 is launched so as Hollywood Riz said on Twitter will go in Australia as well same as Kona, :( , once Hyundai release their EV3 equivalent. Wish Kia put the Hankook iON EVO tyres on instead of the Kumho ones which are nowhere near the Hankook ones designed from the ground up for EV's. Should have held down the volume control on the steering wheel to turn off the stupid bing bing of the overspeed warning when you go over by 1 or 2km/h. How are the headrests compared to the EV9 which are so comfy you could fall asleep nicely with them, when parked btw. :) You're only comparing sticker price we both know the TCO for the EV will be cheaper particularly if you charge at home most of the time. That's where dealers are failing badly by not providing TCO for buyers can't imagine what a Sportage costs in fuel, maintenance/services over 5yrs vs an equivalent EV never mind the pollution and health issues from said pollution which are never factored into the cost equation. Curious to see the Hyundai equivalent once they launch as I'm sure they are watching Kia and improving their version and offering better options. I really hope this has a heatpump and all specs have heatpumps. Think I much prefer rear left or right for charge port as means I can just pull out instead of backing out which is more dangerous. Wonder what the charge curve which is more important than the peak charge rate. Kia could have learned though, think the BYD Sealion 7 has removed the butt plugs and AC port is uncovered and only a flap over the DC port like some other EVs.
@@LudicrousFeed On the topic of back of the seats I am not sure placement of the USB ports is great, I can imagine with them sticking out like that they are more likely to get bumped and broken. I think the way Kia have done it in other cars on the side of the seats keeps them out of harms way.
Questions, does it have a lead acid 12v battery unlike the Tesla LFP FOR THE SECONDARY systems? Does it have software anywhere near as good as Tesla? Is it the old BYD blade battery version 1?
The best thing about the EV5 is that it’s followed by the EV3. I think thats the one that’s going to be the Hyundai groups biggest seller by a long way
Comparing with model Y, some other things missing which (depending on what you value) makes that better value: no sentry, no heat pump, only rear camera, no wireless phone charger, hard plastics throughout, no sunroof, no passenger reading lights, smaller door bins + frunk, no phone key, no rear parcel shelf, no heated steering wheel, front passenger seat being manual, no auto up/down controls for rear windows, no driver profiles, no rear heated seats, Kia’s recommended servicing plan.
It's legacy auto garbage and I'm disappointed that it's shortcomings weren't highlighted in this video. Too many creators bend the knee to big companies
Lot of that isn't needed, no sunroof is a plus, heat pump not needed, heated steering wheels are a wank unless you live in sub freezing temps, parcel shelf who cares, Phone key would have been nice. What it does have is wireless Android Auto + Carplay, a proper dash, physical buttons, paddle controls for regen which was a must for me. I tried to buy an MY but really couldn't has it looks unfinished and all odels look like poverty packs. Very happy with my EV5 Earth purchase.
Thankyou for the great review and good to hear Joys' thoughts too. Was very keen to see this car and buy potentially but the value isnt there... no 360 cam in the earth variant like the ev9 is just a poor decision from Kia at this pricepoint.
Were you two just slowly walking around the car for the start of the video? Must’ve been funny for someone watching the security cameras😂. I like the video though!
I’m sure it is a quality vehicle and the specs are pretty good. I just think the styling is a bit too boxy for my liking and I really don’t like the wheels. Also that middle front seat bit is baffling and I don’t understand why they would have that and it’s not a seat? I currently have a Kia ice vehicle (Cerato GT) and i wouldn’t say no to a Kia EV, but the choices just aren’t compelling to me. This is just not my type of styling and the EV6 is a pricey and feels a bit out of date compared to other new vehicles coming out. Good review and I like seeing the different models available though. It will be interesting once the BYD sea lion 7 is available in Australia and you can have a longer time with it 🙂
The look of the Kia's is OK. In my opinion, what lets is down is 12.5" actual size of the info screen. If I put a 12" ruler on the dash, it would be a 12" screen. So it is wide and narrow. Now tell me, is the screen provided good for referencing maps ahead for holdups/accidents and routes around. Is it good for looking at media content when charging. What about seeing obstacles when reversing - like your children or pets. Maybe the reason Tesla/Chinese brands sell better.
It's actually 2 x 12.5" screens + 5 " screen and this was a big selling point for me rather than a giant TV screen in the middle of the dash. Add to that the physical controls it is a winner in my book.
@@addsfour3499 heat pump is also helpful in hot climates, remember it's about efficiency and an EV needs to be efficient. Not having a heat pump is lunacy and that is anywhere in the world.

Great review. Thorough as always, nice car if you dont want Chinese and dislike the minimalist single screen set up

Back of the front seats have map pockets. Although I'm not sure maps have been stored in them for at least a decade.
Map pockets! I’ll use that 🥂

How does EV5 compare with EV6 in your opinion?
For a sportier ride, go the EV6 but if you want a family sized car - the EV5 is a good option
Wow the third seater at the front. Very 50-60s era. Can put my pet dog
Interesting it doesn’t have ev station locating. My Hyundai does, so they can do it, and its just code, so its not expensive to add it in
It does actually, mine shows all the available chargers.

I really appreciate the Kia EV5 from the EV show. However, I'm patiently waiting for the Tesla Model Y Juniper to arrive before making my choice..
We’re getting spoilt for choice in Australia currently
I am assuming that there is no heat pump since the battery needs to be preconditioned for charging.
Correct, no heat pump
Even more crazy! Earth model and above EV5 in NZ gets standard heatpump!
seems Xpeng at this moment is most bang for buck.... but if people like boxy design then KIA will appeal to them...
Good to have different options!

And yet, no heat pump system on any EV5 in Australia. This was a deal-breaker for me.
Might explain why the efficiency was sitting in the high teens
