i suppose, but the sheer vastness of the imperium, combined with its current situation, makes things like that impossible to implement everywhere. every imperial commander is trusted to take a planet or defend one for the emperor by any means necessary. “We’re the Death Korps of Krieg, son. Did you think this was just a pretty name? We never retreat. We fight an we die, that’s the Krieg way.” - Lieutenant Konarski
Generalfoley, they weren't raised on Armageddon they were raised on Kreig. Your thinking of the Steel Legion. But yes they are very fanatical in their devotion to the God-Emperor, and martyr themselves in the bloodiest battles they get sent to. Gotta love these mini Dorns for that.
why do we argue ww1 Germans or ww2? I think the German army in both of those conflicts were as brave as any American Or Russian they are the embodiment of Germany's will just for the good of all mankind.
TheREALMcChimp yea it can be really seen in the death corps doctrine of siege armies. they use very little amount of tanks and focus on artillery and infantry formations very ww1 German style nothing like blitz Krieg
Natasel This is a little hypocritical-the only reason biological/chemical weapons weren't used in world war two is mutually assured destruction. Unknown to the allies, the Germans had developed nerve gases, but thought that the allies had them as well due to the relevant research disappearing from scientific media. This was in fact because the allies wanted to keep DDT, a pesticide, secret. The allies, on the other hand, had developed and were manufacturing biological agents such as anthrax and had a whole biological/chemical warfare campaign involving it planned out. Again, they didn't use them because the feared a full scale chemical/biological war, an idea that they found hard to swallow. The British plan, should an amphibious German landing occur on their shores, was to drench the landing grounds in mustard, a chemical agent they had large supplies of. Read a book called "A Higher Form of Killing" by J Paxman and R Harris, it's a very interesting read.
Natasel Against an unprotected population, advanced biological weapons can be almost as devastating in terms of casualties as nuclear weapons. Both they and chemical weapons are considered weapons of mass destruction and are truly terrifying. I may misquote this horribly, but one of the reviews on the back of that book I mentioned says that "this book serves as a reminder that the world may not end with nuclear fire but instead with whimpers of fevered agony" or some such thing.
The Hive World of Derondis withheld its annual tithes and regiments of Krieg's Death Korps were deployed to act as the honour guard of the Departmento Munitorum investigation team. After the Imperium officials were hanged by the rebellious populace, the Krieg troops redeployed into the towering mountains that overlooked the primary hive city. Several artillery and siege companies began to bombard the city spires and the inhabitants were mercilessly gunned down as they tried to break out from the besieged city. After ten standard years of relentless shelling, the hive was reduced to naught but rubble and dust, two years after all signs of life from the hive had already ceased and five years after the hive had plaintively issued its unconditional surrender. That is how you deal with heretics and traitors.
It's called the Ragnarok and is unique to Krieger units. It was a homebrew tank they developed themselves during their Civil War to replace the Leman Russes getting shot to pieces. It's EVEN SIMPLER than the Russ and easier to manufacture (and therefore replace) so the Kriegers have continued to use it since losing a Ragnarok during a brutal frontal charge is much less of a pain than losing a Russ.
Some heretics have dared to press dislike, this action will be punished and the burning of the flesh of these heretics will bring honor to us the loyal servents of the Emperor.
My uncle served under Rommel's command and I can vouch for Rommel's units. They not only served honorably but did so well beyond that. Few generals can ever claim to have such a record. While Rommel may have been defeated, he never broke the rules of war to win.
Love my brothers of Kreig. I'm a Cadian man myself(ya know cause they have women! lol) but the men of Kreig know how to dig in and lay siege like its no ones business. For the Emperor brothers! -Side comment- When I was in high school I took art just for the credit, for one assignment I made a near perfect sketch of a Cadian Storm Trooper and a Corps of Kreig soldier shaking hands after a victory, I wanted it ta look like a East meets West thing, ya know like at the end of WW2. Jake Harris I knew a guy in elementary school who got good marks for drawing numerous pictures of Guardsmen being impaled by Tyranids. I guess we'd be around 11 or so then. I guess it really just depends on whether or not your teacher is cool.
Darth Panzer What's so bad about it looking similiar? Many of the Imperial Guard regiments are based of real-life armies. One of the most obvious is the Vostroyan Firstborn, based off of WW1 Russia. If you want to cosplay as a German Soldier, then cosplay as a German Soldier, if you want to cosplay as a Krieg Guardsman then cosplay as a Krieg Guardsman. Cosplayers don't really go for the easiest option. And also, "cos-play", seriously?

Darth Panzer But there are still a few differences between cosplaying as a German Soldier and a Krieg Guardsman. Namely, the Spiked Helmet. And if you go to a Warhammer Convention, I think everyone will know what you're cosplaying as.
Death Korps of Krige, make up a full 25% of the Grim dark of the 40K universe, I love them for a few simply reasons, that they understand and willingly accept that there will be and going to be deaths in combat no matter what you do and accept it as it is, They engage in one of the most gulling and dangers forms of warfare, diseases and other weapons that are realty seen in open war are often deployed ageist them. and they look so dam cool

What frightens me is that they never speak, never scream, never cry out. Unless giving an order or relaying information, they make no noise of their own. There is nothing more frightening - nor inspiring - than watching a guardsman be torn in half by a traitor and hearing nothing from him." -Lord-Commander Issac Crowe, 67th Hodran
WWI German style trench/siege/attrition warfare specialists who are utterly fearless and relentless... Damn, I wish I had at least a fraction of the amount of balls they had.
You are correct in pointing out the Korps' French inspirations; but on a whole the Death Korps of Krieg is mainly based off of the Imperial German Army of WWI. This has been confirmed by GW. Their appearance takes from all forces that fought in Europe in WWI, but their name, tactics, and overall atmosphere are mainly based off the Germans.
I think ,of all the Imperial Guard regiments, the Death Korps are the most representative of what the Imperium is now in 40k. They're basically WW1 trench troopers, armed with lasguns and plasma weaponry, accompanied by humongous war robots, who fight off against aliens and demons, some of which having very powerful psychic abilities, to redeem themselves for something that happened FETHING CENTURIES AGO. And they're badass.
Guard are pretty badass on the table top, mainly because they are capable of some really crazy shenanigans: whole platoons 2+ cover saves and 135pt fast skimmers with three Twin linked las cannons come to mind. (only scratching the surface of IG craziness) (Also, I play IG and love stomping Marine players left and right)
"Commander, the enemy is regrouping 3.8 clicks up north-west. Your orders ?" " Well, I say we hold the line in our trenches, gather a dozen or so artillery regiments and smother them with shells for a few days, while we enjoy a cuppa and take the piss at the commissar !" "What a brilliant strategy Sir !"
To add my few cents. It's trench warfare, guys. World war 1. It's a shoutout to the war, not the countries. It has German and French inspirations because of their participation in that war. Krieg are specialists in attrition and siege warfare and will ruthlessly storm over a 'no mans land', dying in droves to accomplish their objectives. They are the embodiment of world war 1 taken to its logical extreme, in psyche, mind and body. And I really like the mask, it's badass.
@Beaviz81 Infact the Uniforms of the Armageddon Steel Legion are pretty close to German WWI Uniforms with a WWII Fallschirmjäger (Paratrooper) Helmet. Even their Lightning Insignia is very close. Also they favour mechanized Warfare more then the Krieg's Siege Tactics. Think Blitzkrieg vs Trench warfare. The Krieg troopers however are more of a French WWI style. You are spot on with the commissars. They are essentially soviet political officers in SS garb. Allo Allo is awesome btw!
@Skorndar i`m german too, and the helmet is quite french and german. it`s a combined uniform, jacket from french army, mask from germany. so you`re both right ;)
KV2. my god. i was pretty sure that if i ever started playing TT id go with the IG but now there is no mistaking which regiment. Derpguns! all kinds of derpguns!
@Beaviz81 I was strictly referring to the uniforms, not the gas masks. The yellow coats are partly based off from what British infantry wore in 1914 (specifically, the 1914 Utility Tunic).
I’m a bit new to the warhammer 40k universe but I like it so far, and what I’m getting from the Krieg death korps is a whole planet and regiment of futuristic German ww1 soldiers
I was watching the news the other night and i noticed then that when new french president whent to germany he got a millitary parade, their uniforms apart from the head ware has pretty mutch gone back to the awsome looking stuff.
and what you die for brother. in the words of Lieutenant Konarski, 933rd Death Korp of Krieg. "We're the Death Korps of Krieg, son. Did you think that was just a pretty name? We never retreat. We fight and we die, that's the Krieg way. "
Indeed, and many WH40k players realize this, what he means is that "the Death Korps of Krieg" title is often shortened to "kriegers" when referring to guardsmen from that particular formation. The internet does not speak german it seems. It's mostly used on the /tg/ board of the various chan sites.
@aarham imperial guard are very effective, space marines are heavily armored but not impenetrable, but are brothers in the imperium but skirmishes between these two armies are common (more or less an honour battle)
Another reason why they have been granted permission to cloning is that their soldiers have the pure will to fight to the last man. They're fearless and back down at no costs despite terrible odds against them. The only way they feel as though they can repay their debt to the emperor, from Kriegs heresy back in the day, is by dying gloriously in battle. The siege of Vraks is a perfect example.
@Acecombatfighter Yes. The Death Korp of Krieg is an Imperial Guard regiment recruited from the planet Krieg. 1500 years before the current 40k time period, a rebellion for independance from the emperor began. But the loyalists wouldn't let that happen. The planet was the plunged in nuclear warfare, and the surface of the planet quickly deteriorated, leaving nothing but an arid crust with a few radioactive marshes. and so the population of Krieg remained underground...
@Beaviz81 I am going from the distinct masks with hoses, which are similiar to the ones the allies used and the buttoned back greatcoat and wrappings over the boots, which were typically french. But their creation process probably went like this: Put everything that is iconic for WWI in a pot, heat slowly sprinkle with a teaspoon WWII german stuff, then sculpt it into minis. The Armageddon looking like foreign legion is new to me, but that seems interesting. I'll research that.
@Herbymac0811 They're an amalgamation of various WWI armies: Look at the helmets, for example, they have that french-style ridge across the top and yet sport a german-style rear.
I'm not complaining, but every Warhammer movie or game is about the Space Marines. I want one with Krieg!

+CaptainFedora
They make up 1/5 of the grimdark.
I mean I know suicidal charges are kind of Krieg's thing... But I can't actually Imagine a death korps member dying... They're that badass.
They do die, in droves. And they don't care; that's why they're badass.

yes... yes it would

Death Korps of Krieg is the best and my favorite troopers in the Warhammer's university
So badass EPIC
(only scratching the surface of IG craziness) (Also, I play IG and love stomping Marine players left and right)
@killkrusha Audio is "Crimson Tide Theme (Roll Tide)" by Hans Zimmer.
It's in the description. The music is the main theme from the movie Crimson Tide, by Hanz Zimmer.
"Commander, the enemy is regrouping 3.8 clicks up north-west. Your orders ?"
" Well, I say we hold the line in our trenches, gather a dozen or so artillery regiments and smother them with shells for a few days, while we enjoy a cuppa and take the piss at the commissar !"
"What a brilliant strategy Sir !"
best imperial gard vid ever ...FOR THE EMPOROR
>Needs World of Tanks to know about Armour from WWII
>Needs ANY video game to know ANYTHING about WWII
To add my few cents.
It's trench warfare, guys. World war 1. It's a shoutout to the war, not the countries. It has German and French inspirations because of their participation in that war.
Krieg are specialists in attrition and siege warfare and will ruthlessly storm over a 'no mans land', dying in droves to accomplish their objectives. They are the embodiment of world war 1 taken to its logical extreme, in psyche, mind and body.
And I really like the mask, it's badass.
every battlefield we tread, the path to release.
every enemy we fell, an offering to the Emperor.
every drop of blood we shed, the price we pay.
EPIC!
@187jfk gotta admit love the combination of the uniforms shows pride in all it E
ntails
Best Halloween costume ever.
I was watching the news the other night and i noticed then that when new french president whent to germany he got a millitary parade, their uniforms apart from the head ware has pretty mutch gone back to the awsome looking stuff.
Sad how history repeats itself because it wasn't heard the first time :(
Hence exactly why I cut off that flute [:
@Gim6759 its actually a Ragnarok pattern Leman russ which, of course, as you pointed out, looks like a KV-2
and what you die for brother.
in the words of Lieutenant Konarski, 933rd Death Korp of Krieg.
"We're the Death Korps of Krieg, son. Did you think that was just a pretty name? We never retreat. We fight and we die, that's the Krieg way. "
@Wefer990 You gotta love the old german militar Apparel. not exactly effective in russian winters. But for a day on the Parade-Deck. AMAZING!
@TheOneStooge There a mix of the GERMAN Pickelhaube and Stahlhelm. Also their uniforms are the German Feld Grau.
@DrMabuse2006 thanks for the info...so they are more life defensive rather than offensive?
as imperial guard no dubt death korps of krieg are the real hammer of the emperor !!!!!!
Where can I get heads and figures of the death corps of kreig? I reckon they look the most badass out of all imperial figures
@thedarkprinceVvvvV The Gear takes aspects of both WW1 and WW2, WW1 Helmet/Gasmask, WW2 and their well equipped state (Jacket, Boots, Gloves, etc.)
I'll research that.
all your videos...so fucking epic
@Herbymac0811 They're an amalgamation of various WWI armies: Look at the helmets, for example, they have that french-style ridge across the top and yet sport a german-style rear.
