The Imperium of Man
Overview:
The Imperium of Man is the galactic empire under which the majority of humanity is united. The founder and ruler of the Imperium is the god-like Emperor, the most powerful human psychic to date. Founding the Imperium ten thousand years ago, he continues, at least nominally, to lead it.
The Imperium is the largest and most powerful political entity in the galaxy, consisting of at least a million worlds, which are dispersed across most of the Milky Way galaxy. Consequently, an Imperial planet might be separated from its closest neighbor by hundreds or thousands of light years. As a stellar empire, the size of the Imperium can not be measured in terms of continuous territory, but only in the number of planetary systems in its control.
Several aliens and forces (the forces of Chaos, Tyranids, Eldar, Dark Eldar, Orks, Tau, Necrons) challenge the supremacy of the Imperium. From within, the Imperium is threatened more insidiously by rebellion, mutation, dangerous psykers, and subversive cults.
Without the protection of the Imperium, mankind would fall prey to the countless perils that threaten it.
Even a man who has nothing, can still offer his life.

Bro, Chaos Gate (the video game btw) came out somewhere in 1990s, if I'm not mistaken. It's back when like 3rd edition was the newest one. Also cinematics were a thing in Epic 40k Final Liberation, that one is from 1990s too. But yeah fan animations weren't really a thing I guess
There's no way I will ever be able to afford to play Warhammer 40K, but it still has to be one of my favorite fictional universes out there.

Like it or not the emperor badly messed up chaos's planes by defeating Horus, and you may say well its only a temporary set back (if you can call 10,000 years temporary) it dosnt change the fact faced the CHAOS GOD'S plans and destroyed them.

This happened during a Only War roleplay session where Black Templars (played by the GM) have given the idea to the officers of the Imperial Guard to abandon the civilians of a hive world because he saw them as "unworthy and a waste of time of their habilities and resources" against Dark Eldar raiders. My character ( a Colonel-Sniper of a regiment created by me, the Gunmetallican Longbolters, a infiltration and sniper regiment) was so pissed with that that he slapped the Black Templar Captain in the face, and the rest happened as follows:
BTC:"Do you dare to raise your hands against a Servant of the Emperor?"
Me:"No, Space Marine, I dare raise my hands against a sociopath who is so full of arrogance and hubris to the point he had forgotten to what reason he is fighting for!"
BTC:"You know nothing of my of Duty, weakling!"
Me:"I cannot be a superhuman soldier, Astartes, but I know more of Duty then you could even perceive in your entire existence!"
BTC:"They are civilians! If they cannot fight for themselves they are unworthy of our help!"
Me:"So, why the Emperor had fought for the Unification of Terra? Why He fought the Great Crusade? Why created the Primarchs and Space Marines? Why He created you? Why, even today, are we fighting for? For Honor? Glory? Medals? Odes for our feats of battle? No, Astartes! We fight to protect Mankind! And when I talk of Mankind, I talk ALL OF IT! It doesn't matter if they are of the Adeptus Mechanicus, the Administratum or the Adeptus Ministorum. I dont care if they live in a Feral or Hive world. If you cannot show at least a MINIMUM OF RESPECT FOR THEIR WORK AND DIGNITY, then all what the Emperor have made, all of what He fought, sacrificed and dreamed for ALL MANKIND, would be for nothing! Now, "gentlemen", if you excuse me, I'll be doing my Duty, protecting the "unworthy" civilians, because I cannot even trust a fucking superhuman soldier to do the fucking job!"
My character left the room, arranged the regiment to defend the civilians, and after a gruesome battle saved them, but my character died fighting the Dark Eldar leader. All the players have even cried manly tears in the funeral, and my regiment gained the enmity of the Black Templars ever since.

As soon as you "slapped" that space marine, what really would've happend is that you would have a chains word slicing you in three and a commissar looking on in approving disgust. Your character is filthy heretic given the amount of history he knew.

Also, the Ultramarines didn't do shit up until the first Tyrannic war. During the Horus Heresy they got led around the nose by the Word Bearers, their shit kicked in by the World Eaters when they finally managed to catch up to Lorgar, then got led around AGAIN by the Alpha Legion and arguably couldn't even determine Alpharius from some random marine. Then to top it all off, Guiliman pretty much gets gibbed by Fulgrim.

The Star destroyer may be bigger,but the typical Imperial ship carries more weaponry per square foot.
Actually the "Dauntless"-Class Light Cruiser, the most widespread Imperial vessel is about 4.5 km in length. That equals to three Imperial-Class Star Destroyers.
180791sanguinius Battle Barges are big, maybe 1 or 2 used by each Space Marine Chapter. And if we're going by Great Crusade standards, the Gloriana class Battle Barges used by each Primarch were huge at 14km on average. Roboute Guilliman's, the 'Macragge's Honour' was 20km in length. The Emperor's Barge, known as the 'Imperator Somnium' was as big as one of Holy Terra's sub orbital plates. The pilots had to steer the Somnium very carefully when entering Ullanor's atmosphere for fear of destabilising the natural weather system.
Wouldn't matter who is bigger, one side has a nova cannons and deep striking Terminators...

The Imperial Titans and starships have void shields, which displace ordinance fired at them, sending them to the warp, so even turbolasers would have a difficult time taking on imperial ships. SW ships only have deflector shields, while the Imperium has Disruption Macrocannons, which could overload the deflector shields. The Imperium also has void torpedoes, which tear open warp space and send their targets (or pieces of their target) to the warp.
