- Aretha Franklin - I Never Loved A Man (the way i love you)
a song that means so much to me!!! :-)
thank you aretha.
You're a no good heart breaker
You're a liar and you're a cheat
And I don't know why
I let you do these things to me
My friends keep telling me
That you ain't no good
But oh, they don't know
That I'd leave you if I could
I guess I'm uptight
And I'm stuck like glue
Cause I ain't never
I ain't never, I ain't never, no, no (loved a man)
(The way that I, I love you)
Some time ago I thought
You had run out of fools
But I was so wrong
You got one that you'll never lose
The way you treat me is a shame
How could ya hurt me so bad
Baby, you know that I'm the best thing
That you ever had
Kiss me once again
Don'cha never, never say that we we're through
Cause I ain't never
Never, Never, no, no (loved a man)
(The way that I, I love you)
I can't sleep at night
And I can't eat a bite
I guess I'll never be free
Since you got, your hooks, in me
Whoa, oh, oh
Yeah! Yeah!
I ain't never loved a man
I ain't never loved a man, baby
Ain't never had a man hurt me so bad
No
Well this is what I'm gonna do about it

The first #1 hit on the Rhythm & Blues charts for the woman who would later become known as The Queen of Soul. It was also the 157th #1 R&B song of the Rock Era. It also hit #9 on the Top 40 charts.
When Soul was tough. One mother of a bass line and two drummers at the end.
I was listening to pandora and this song came on, I haven't heard it in a while so I favored it and put it on repeat till my 6 year old knew the song by heart, just passing on the real r & b soul music
She Had it Right Then....She Sing With Such Soul... I can Feel Her pain....
The Queen still rules her Kingdom!
She earned the name "Queen of Soul" rightfully so..this one has that soulful-bluesy sound..one of her best!!!!!

The Queen....
For me,nobody can sing that song like Aretha did,!!
Quality music, where has it gone, this is good music here, and you know all the words
This song came out back in the day when I was very young. I was crazy in love with a guy named George (a/k/a Mickey), although I thought he felt we were just friends. We were always together! An incident happened which made me realize he had deeper feelings for me than I thought and we began to date, but it didn't work out. In spite of a romance not working out, I still miss the friend that he was for so long, so wherever you are, George, this song is for you because it makes me think of you.
I came here because I've seen "The Commitments" just recently.
Maria Kennedy Doyle is doing a fantastic job covering this amazing song.
Aretha just blows me away...this song comes with so much power and yet emotion....almost too good to be true...
However, you should not miss checking out Maria Kennedy Doyle's version of this song!

RIP Rod Hicks, who you hear here on Bass..!
QUEEN OF SOUL FOREVER !!!! BY THE WAY WHO ARE THE 6 ASSES WHO DISLIKED THIS ???
sing it woman! this is a great song!!
Rod Hicks Ampeg fretless bass the best electric bass player until Jaco burst upon the scene...listen to the 1968 live version, he also played for Saint Ray Charles...on his Love Country Style album go listen to the bass on those tracks...he then joined the Butterfield Blues Band and I got to know him some and wonder at his bass playing he just flew over that neck played everything you could possibly hear in a given tune. Butterfield always told me playing harp follow the bass, he followed Rod!
"I'd leave you...if I could..." man. That. Is a lyric.

Yas! Soul music can't get enough.
This was just a minor hit in this country in May 1967, nevertheless, I now consider it to be the greatest soul record I have ever heard in my life - it expresses such incredible feeling the likes of which you cannot match these days - the saxophone backing is amazing.
Aretha is the best there ever was,,,,,,,,,,,to me.
Aunt Vivian kills it
One of those reach down into the belly and pull your guts out songs. Woohooo!
That's my favorite movie and you quoted it perfectly. :]

Every woman need her some Aretharapy!!!!!
@babygirl91580 You can say that again, i grew up with her music, and always knew she was the most gifted singer in the world. When i die, i want her music at my funeral.
But I love my wife the way she loves me. And she is a lucky woman.
Spooner on Wurlitzer, it's his riff that made this tune.. Muscle Shoals..
Killer Groove. White southerners. Who would have thunk it.
That's what my boo told me, she thought I would run out of fools. But I got one that will never leave.
Not many people know she cut this song in muscle shoals alabama. Bout an hour from where I live
actually she was labeled that way before this classic album. it just caught on after this was out

So good!
i never loved a men
Ooooh u betta beleive that!! XD
Ooooh.
@tranurse It occurs to me that the backing band - if it's the usual suspects from Memphis - would have been mixed. That guitar-player for example, I am sure, is Steve "The Colonel" Cropper.
