if your between 30-40 years old and this reminds you of being a kid, back before you had to take the world seriously, back when we were mentally free of stress, the most difficult decisions we made were playing inside or outside. I hope to meet you all again when we return to Innocence.
I'm refusing to age the 90s are even coming back so we can be comforted in the fashion and music.....even the artists are coming bac too...look at slim shady who knew he'd show his face again ......peter pan had it right all along I was in such a rush to grow up I forgot to take the time to enjoy my youth so here I am with my inner child doing whatever she wants I'll give her x
Random teenager here. I won't pretend to be one of the people who listened to this song originally. But my dad loved this when he was my age, and it's thanks to him that I'm here. There's this feeling from special kinds of music that you can't find anywhere else. Some day, I want to inspire the same sort of feelings that this did for me and my dad at such different points in time. Love this music.
I firmly believe that someday our lives will be laid out in front of us for us to see and it will probably be explained to us because all we. Did was go through life? We never knew what was going to happen tomorrow but all the crazy things that did happen all the crazy things we learned. All the crazy things we went through and did we'll. Be laid out? For us? And then we'll understand. And we will all meet each other and we will know who we are. It won't be necessary to give out names because we already know that when we meet and I hope everyday of my life this will happen.
Man...1994. I was 7. Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina. Absolute devastated warzone. We rarely had electricity or gas or running water in between Serb shelling and sniper fire. We'd get some power for maybe a day or two, thats when you'd get things done if there was something to cook or improve or whatever. I distinctly remember this song when it would be on tv, or radio. It wasnt often, but when it was on I'd listen. Thats the memory I have of this song. I know, not as pretty or cozy as some other comments on here but damn, it was one bright spot of my childhood. Respect and thanks for lighting up my life at times. 🤘

@1:34 The singer chanting this part is an indigenous person from Taiwan. He is a highly respected elder in his tribe, named 郭英男 (Guo Yingnan). The high-pitched female voice is that of his wife, 郭秀珠 (Igay Duana). The song they are singing is called "飲酒歡樂歌" or "老人飲酒歌" (palafang). The band Enigma did not obtain permission or authorization in the process of creating their song "Return to Innocence," which led to an international lawsuit that was eventually settled. After this, Guo Yingnan says 「as long as everyone knows that this song comes from Taiwan's 阿美族 (Amis) people and that it was sung by him and his wife.」 He hopes that everyone can become more familiar with and listen to the singing of Taiwan's indigenous people.
There is just something so peaceful and yet tragic about this song. It really does feel like you are spending your final moments of life, going back and remembering your whole life from the start. Reminding you of your own mortality, and that time is precious. It's beautiful and humbling.
Everything we do or say stays with us. What we learn and act upon then is set in stone in human form, our spiritual self is on a different adventure and we have to align the material and spiritual to further gain wisdom or to be illuminated. Our fate is inevitable but the energy we carry with us is forever
The background throat singing was from a tribe in Taiwan that was the last to practice the art and when they passed away they took this art to their grave. That is why the song is partly tragic, you can think of it as the last of the Mohicans
I have searched for this song to no avails. I caught a break today Jan 13th 2024. This song meant a lot to me as a kid. I don’t understand music, I don’t know how to make music but this song left a number on me. I am from Cameroon 🇨🇲 this music right here is truly special.
Just found it also,Was watching "Man of the house" and it was at the end of the movie..Brings back younger memories for sure.Gkad you found it as well.
this resonates with me so much. this song deeply impacted me at 13 yrs old, when i first heard it. just came back after several years not hearing it. thanks for sharing your experience with the power and impact of this music.
My dad lost his fight with pancreatic cancer in 2021. We needed one song for the closing of his cremation. I sat for 2 hours on my own going through every single song we ever listened to together, and this song came on and I cried 😢 😭 this was dad's song for as long as I could remember. So this played as the catafault was closing and his body been lowered. Perfect fitting song to the most amazing human to ever grace us with his presence.. HE RETURNED TO INNOCENCE. I love you dad with all my heart and soul. YOU ARE MY PHOENIX ❤
I'm sorry about your father:) I lost both my parents already and many others. There is nothing easy about the ones we love leaving us behind. This has been the hardest thing I have been dealing with as I get older. Now, I just lost my father-in-law two months ago and it starts all over again. Stay strong!

I'm 45 years old now and I'm only just beginning to understand how important the song is in my life, even though I've always loved it.All that matters in your final second is that you were a good person and had a fulfilling life.
My mom loves this song. She's currently dealing with breast cancer and everytime I pick her up at the hospital after the treatment, we play this song because she loves it. These past couple of months have been really tough and I just want to see my mother dancing and jumping again to this song like back in the days. I hope so.
Prayers for a speedy recovery ❤ My mom died of this right during the pandemic and I’m still grieving for her to this day 😢I can’t seem to move on with my life without her 😢😢😢 there is not one day not one heart beat not one breath I take do I not miss my mom 💔💔
This song echoes through me transporting me back to a time I've forgotten. Things seem so crazy and complicated as an adult. This gives me a second to breathe and regroup.
THIS IS NOT AN ENIGMA SONG. I hate to burst your bubble, but they STOLE this recording from an Aboriginal married couple named Difang and Agay who were singing this DRINKING SONG in a bar in Taiwan!!! They were never paid royalties and did not even know their song was the theme of the 1996 Olympic Games and a mega money making hit until a village neighbor asked them about it 20 YEARS LATER!! They sued Enigma and the recording label, and they received a crappy payment. There is NOTHING SPIRITUAL about this song, it is not an Native American song, it is a stolen performance of the Ami Drinking Song. You may Google it for proof if you'd like.
This song has always made me cry. It’s so deep and the lyrics are how we should try to live our life’s. I’m nearly 60 and to all the younger generation listening to this….. believe in yourself 🕊
This song makes me sad and makes me shed tears every time. Every time, I remember my childhood and how it passed and ended. Truly, you start appreciating something only when it's gone.
Listen I’m 38 and been listening to this song for 20 years, no matter what your going through no matter how hard, have a drink and listen to this. We as people are strong and can get through anything. Just have faith your stronger than you think. I truly wish anyone that’s listening to this song all the best you guys are great x
@DivadZi23 The chant in Enigma's 'Return to Innocence' is not Native American, but from the Amis people (Taiwan) and is called "Elders' Drinking Song",
Love Devotion Feeling Emotion Don't be afraid to be weak Don't be too proud to be strong Just look into your heart my friend That will be the return to yourself The return to innocence The return to innocence And if you want, then start to laugh If you must, then start to cry Be yourself don't hide Just believe in destiny Don't care what people say Just follow your own way Don't… That's not the beginning of the end That's the return to yourself The return to innocence That's return to innocenc
My dad passed away yesterday and now I'm making a playlist with all the songs he loved and I remember him by. This is one of them. Thank you dad for showing me the greatest artists of all times. Loved, missed and never forgotten 🤘🔥❤
*_"My dad passed away yesterday and now I'm making a playlist with all the songs he loved and I remember him by."_* I'm so sorry for your loss. That's a good way to remember his life and treasure the memories. {:o:O:}
I'm sorry for your loss. Play his music, remember how happy it made him, and revel in the time you shared together. If this was your dad's music then he & I are probably similar in age, and if so you'll want to add Stepping Out by Joe Jackson to your mix; it's a great tune.
I feel lucky to be born on the same year when this masterpiece was released. Its that kind of song that can bring you to tears, transcending boundaries of identity and status in the modern world. Its evocative melodies and profound lyrics resonate deeply, inviting listeners on a spiritual journey of self-realization. The song encourages a return to a pure state of being, reminding us of the beauty and simplicity of life. It serves as a powerful catalyst for reflection, helping us reconnect with our true selves and the deeper truths of existence. Peace.
I have this same case 🙂 i found this song today. Many time i was singin this song to my girl,, to my friends , nobody know tittle 🙂 bat today i found. 🙂🙂🙂 This song sound do great. I love world, i love everyone ♥️♥️♥️
The chorus brings tears to your eyes and makes your heart clench. It's a strange feeling of simultaneous regret for your mistakes and hope that things will finally get better.
You are exactly where you need to be 💫🌌 embrace the darkness , the light & everything in between ❤ figure out who & what you really are in the process 🙏🏼 you are more powerful & divine than you could even imagine . I love you as you are the other me ❤
It must be 25 years ago, I stepped into the store where my older cousin worked and this song was playing in the background, I was so star struck it felt like I was walking on clouds and this song has Forever taken me back to that moment: such a sweet memory ❤️
This song has extra special beauty for me as it was on a tape from a dear friend when we were 17 and I remember thinking this song was magical and she gave it to me, she died a few months later in a car accident, im crying as I write this as I miss her so much. But this song is my gift from her, she was amazing. I miss you Viki Lunn x
My best childhood memory is watching this video with my dad... i was 6..7 years sitting in my dad’s lap he explained me what’s this video about. how life pass so fast... that are the memories i’ll never forget... this video is the best when i need to remember what are the truthly valuable things in life
You're lucky. I just watched the music video on TV years ago by myself. "Whoa, sounds like tribal or something." Didn't understand a word of it, no one was around to explain to me. Years later, decades really, I saw it again on TV, this time I saw the title. Then forgot about it, found it on UA-cam, forced myself to not forget the title, and a year later I kinda missed the song, and here I am.
It is uncanny how this song inspires the same emotion in so many people, which literally is, now looking back, the feeling of a 'return to innocence'. That saudade feeling of a purer time, the halcyon days of our care free youth. Powerful stuff.
@@TheVoiceOfMan This is a long shot as this is an old comment but I never heard "saudade" being used in English like this. If you don't mind, could you tell me where it's used, and if it's a common thing? I'm really curious now
My parents passed in the same year(2020), they were in their 50's, this was my mom's favorite song. I listen when I feel down and need to sing. Beautiful song. Thank you. It's been very hard.
Back when life was easier and you had everything to look forward to and now you’re sat here listening and looking back thinking where did it all go so wrong but we’re still here that’s the most important thing ❤
This song will always hold a place in my heart. I wish I could go back and be my younger self but knowing as I get older I have to cherish everything I have.
We all want to be our younger innocent selves again. I feel moving away from society would help, somewhere remote and self sufficient surviving… the things that really matter come in nature and being around what you love, and the ones you love.
I am from Scotland and i played this for my hero,my Dad 22yrs ago and he loved it so much.He has since now passed and i miss him every single day. This will always be in his and my heart for always. My nephew Stephen reminded me and sent me this.Love you son.👍🏴❤️

@KRYO BOY Armageddon needs to come. You have no idea how vile it is. There's no freedom here, never was. Its literally almost always a second to midnight
This is a repurposed drinking song. People over in Taiwan get hammered to this song left and right. Look it up. This song isn't as innocent as you think.
I remember me and my little brother that passed away listening to this song and partying together until he couldn't party no more. The good Lord took him away to heaven 🙏 But he was a true believer. God bless him.😢 3:37
There's something really magical and spiritual about this tune. Also takes me back to a specific time in the 90s I can't quite put my finger on. I just love this song x
Born in the 80’s and this song brings tears to my eyes since I NOW starting to understand my life and how quick it goes and whats important in this short stay we have on earth.
My father told me He played this song for me when i was a baby. He loved the native American traditions. He passed away last year Oktober with 74. He was a special man and the person who i loved the most in my Life. RIP Roger Petersen.
The old man died and his whole life flashed before his eyes in reverse order. He remembered where he had been, where he worked, whom he loved, how he walked under the same pear tree when he was a child. And he even remembered the moment of his baptism. He was apparently a good man who lived an honest decent life. Goosebumps. An ingenious clip!
2022 has been a tough year, this song has helped sooth my soul and suffering many times and still does very much to this day. God bless Enigma for creating such an amazing song certainly cuts to the core every time
"Return to Innocence" is such a soulful piece. That blend of Gregorian chant and modern sounds creates a meditative vibe that just takes you somewhere else. Really fits our earlier talk of spirituality and peace, doesn't it?
28 years ago in 1993 I was 22, bought the cassette, rode home from the store jamming it with my girlfriend at the time. Now I'm 50, and life is passing faster and faster it seems. I would trade anything to be that kid again. Enjoy it and slow down. Maybe we can Return to Innocence ourselves
Couldn't agree more, I'm 62 and have been wishing with each passing year that if only time could run backwards. This video proves that you can! If only it were really true....
I think many people want to go back when they were children ... no problems, always playing, endless laughter ... many relatives and friends ... I think this song wants us to come back at least with our thoughts in those good times.
This song changed my Life. I was 15 around the time it was released getting into trouble pretty much giving up on everything and putting stress on my Mother. I've always loved Rap music apart from today's mainstream so never really cared about Enigma back then. Return to Innocence would pop up on the radio quite often. I woke up one morning and turned the radio on and here's this damn song again lol.. I sat there just listening to this song while my mother was doing dishes looking stressed. I started feeling weird I was getting emotional. I got up and helped her and started to realize the importance of taking care of her, being there for Her. Will always love this song
1993. I am 11 years old, and I learned to swim, went to the pool. This music was often played there. I remember the sun shining through the glass ceiling. I dive to a depth of 2.5 meters and feel these sounds all over my body. And the sun's rays sparkle and shimmer.

Mid 90s, I was in grade 4 or so, my elder brother (in his early 20s back then) explained to me what was happening. This video taught me how to see life. My brother is a blessing to me, and this video is a part of the blessing.
I just cannot listen to this without tears in my eyes and no other song has this power over me. I should thank my dad who has a great taste in music and used to play Enigma in the car during family trips back then in 1994 when I was 7 years old

I finally understand this song. We must return to innocence. The person who is our true selves,, that is love, peace, joy. The outside world made us accustomed to their ways, their beliefs. There is only one path, that is ours,,. Not everyone else’s. We must follow our own path. From birth we’ve been taught how we should act, what we should believe, what we should think. It’s time to find peace from Within, and be at peace with and love ourselves, forget what everyone else says or thinks. What do you think? I hope this helps someone.
On another level, and thrown out there in the video, what it means is that no matter what you do in life, you just reset, so your original ideas are your last ideas.
I'm 57 1/2. I haven't lived. For the past 30 years comparing to my goals, I've stagnated, trapped in my timeline. I've done everything 'right' like they told me. The rest depended on decisions others, and not me. I lost the battles for my existence - all which needed others. I. e. I've an empty life. I'd rather had a full life and dead at 45 than the torment of the absents of simple things in life. No pie in the sky, simple goals - all miles too high. Chasing dreams that run faster than me. I begged my younger friends under 30, don't end up like me.
One of the most beautiful Work of Art that i have ever witnessed since a child. It still resonates. That's the language of Life's Suffering. Thank you .❤🩹
The melody of my childhood, i've been looking for this song in such a long long time. I listend to this song from my father's old casstte since i was 5 or 6 years old but with my young mind at that time i didn't remember any thing about it except the melody. Even my father he has no idea about the artist or name of the song. And today, by chance i heard it in a Japanese restaurant in Barcelona. It really makes me speechless and my father so happy. Thanks to make my childhood unforgettable with this wonderful rhythm.
Wow you just described my memory. Altough I rediscovered the song with Ishkur Electronic Guide. My problem is that I also remember other songs in the cassette of my childhood but I just cant find them, not even singing them by me with Soundhound or Shazam, its just in my memory :(
Honestly, one of the most enthralling, captivating and haunting songs there is in music history. A classic and timeless song! The 90's is simply the golden age and era of pop music!
Every aspect of the 90's - theater, music, movies, sports, comedy, retail...it was the golden age of everything. Once they ended, something within us died. It's truly tragic.
Love Devotion Feeling Emotion Don't be afraid to be weak Don't be too proud to be strong Just look into your heart my friend That will be the return to yourself The return to innocence
Dropping my roses. I cried throughout. The algorithm never provides us inspiring beauty - only uninspired, disposable new-age time waste. The system despises beauty.
I agree and grieve for those years and the fact my children won't know a world like it was in those decades. The best of everything was back then including this song..
I remember first hearing this song as a child when watching the movie Man of the House. After my dad passed last year I was looking at old things remembering him and man this song touched my soul. Thankful that I had a father in my home to raise me that cared. The words you cannot express at times is embodied in this one song. Mind, heart, and spirit! Love ya Dad! Thanks for everything!
While watching that very movie, I heard this song for the first time too! I never new the name of the song or who sang it until coming across this 90’s play list here on UA-cam! I am visualizing JTT doing rain dance as this song plays! I need to watch that movie again!
The amount of nostalgia I feel when listening to this is beyond measure!!! Amazing vibes🙌🏻 to anyone reading this I just want to wish you a beutiful eternity, love you all💚🌍
This song always puts me to tears, after reading all comments here. Everyone has a story to tell, l missed some of my family members that passed and friends lve loss... Good day to you all.
Whoever is here scrolling through the comments. I wish you all the best in life. We may never ever meet in this world but I hope you find encouragement and peace wherever you are. This song sounds like it came from heaven itself✝️. Makes me feel indescribably positive. ♥️

But they can't because they are quite an...Enigma....lol
Yeah enigma stole this song
Agreed.
Do what?
song for the ages... the pendulum will swing back. God bless
The background throat singing was from a tribe in Taiwan that was the last to practice the art and when they passed away they took this art to their grave. That is why the song is partly tragic, you can think of it as the last of the Mohicans
Tragic why? Life is not tragic, it's the way it is... beautiful.
The world needs this song right now.

А мне было 17 и я училась в школе, эх как я торопила время тогда..хоть на денек бы вернуться в 1993
я завидую тебе
This is one of the most beautiful comments on You Tube I've ever read. It's poetry!
One of the most beautiful songs I've ever heard. 27th February 2021 listening from north west England UK. 11:55am, Mi. Sun is shining ☀️🇬🇧
i used to people that was my 'deep' contribution
One of the very most beautiful songs ever made.
jesus is just a human being and messenger
Human being like me and you .
Jesus did not know the unseen,
Jesus did not know the Hour,
Jesus could not do anything on his own,
Jesus was sent by God,
Jesus was praying to God
Jesus is not God or the son of God
Jesus is a man, mortal .

I should thank my dad who has a great taste in music and used to play Enigma in the car during family trips back then in 1994 when I was 7 years old
😎
you do have an exceptional dad if this is what he listened to with you

My Mom loved this song. First time I heard it I was 8. She's not here anymore but I always feel like she's not far when I hear this song. This song will always make me feel emotional.

Yes ! Finally found it after 22 years. Always had it in my mind. So much peace comes with this song.
what an undertaking! 22 years to return to innocence? :P We all started there, but maybe, we all return there as well?
It’s a damn difficult song to trace!!!
@@tarrynmunro5393 like most things, we can't trace much. Time erases the work that we've done. My whole life I've been looking for truth, but I think it's asymptotically impossible. What a thing.

Beacause there is part of a indegenous cant!
True.
I haven't heard this masterpiece in over a decade. Tears welled up when I truly listened to the lyrics this time.
I heard it in 1998 for the first time at 13 years old. I loved it and never heard it again until now. Amazing song. Makes me feel tribal. 😂
Yeah! Dude😍
yes so true
We are all in charge of our own destiny aimee
Thank you .❤🩹
I'm 63 years old now. And this is still one of the most beautiful melodies I have ever heard.

Thanks to make my childhood unforgettable with this wonderful rhythm.
i'm agree with you!! my childhood in this song, my father loves this music.
Beautiful story. I've had similar experiences with music that gets lost in time but then gloriously rediscovered.
Suzie Q Good memories! Its makes our lives truth.
You made me cry with this coment... I feel the same!!
Wow you just described my memory. Altough I rediscovered the song with Ishkur Electronic Guide.
My problem is that I also remember other songs in the cassette of my childhood but I just cant find them, not even singing them by me with Soundhound or Shazam, its just in my memory :(
If only time could go backwards!!! I'd go back to the nineties! Who's with me?
I'm with ya
I am 100000000000% with you ..I can’t turn back the hands of time but surely surely can make rewinds each second of my life listening to old classics
I would definitely go in a heartbeat
I'm in
90's was my Decade too where i did many things that make me want to go back.
Dá até vontade de chorar vendo essa moça girando na floresta. Coisa linda demais. 👏👏👏👏👍🌹🌷🥰♥️
Honestly, one of the most enthralling, captivating and haunting songs there is in music history. A classic and timeless song!
The 90's is simply the golden age and era of pop music!
We should be enjoying it every chance we get before we can no longer access it.
Every aspect of the 90's - theater, music, movies, sports, comedy, retail...it was the golden age of everything. Once they ended, something within us died. It's truly tragic.
But,this isnt pop. It's totally culture. The culture of all the earth's people

@Shrek senpai I love that part
Dropping my roses. I cried throughout. The algorithm never provides us inspiring beauty - only uninspired, disposable new-age time waste. The system despises beauty.
This song takes me way back. So many great memories of friends. Some still here. Some gone. The 80’s and 90’s were such great years.
Everyone of us one Day will die but what is left is music
I cannot agree with you more!!! Life was so different back in the 80's and 90's. Such wonderful years with unforgettable experiences and memories 😔😔😔😔
this song was released 1993. but yeah i feel ya

He will always be with you, this song is just one reminder ❤️
While watching that very movie, I heard this song for the first time too! I never new the name of the song or who sang it until coming across this 90’s play list here on UA-cam! I am visualizing JTT doing rain dance as this song plays! I need to watch that movie again!
I remember this song in that movie too.!!

This song always puts me to tears, after reading all comments here. Everyone has a story to tell, l missed some of my family members that passed and friends lve loss...
Good day to you all.
