It was the summer of 1970, as our family drove to Chicago from Kansas City, this song came on the radio for the first time. My heart was moved, and when the song ended, tears streamed down from my face. Miraculously, later that summer in Detroit Michigan, I would meet Marvin Gaye. ❤
Brings back the best Young Teen age years. The Happiest part of my Growing up was the R & B MUSIC. Thank God, Bless them and their Songs are everlasting in my heart. ❤ 😅
I heard Marvin once say while being interviewed 'The Holy Spirit wrote this whole album" he also said Berry Gordy wouldn't produce it, so he built a recording studio in his basement mortgaged his home and the rest was history. This album is timeless !!! GOD PRODUCED THIS ALBUM ..
The music of today - especially violent and aggressive rap rubbish - is an insult to all those who crafted and sang beautiful songs like this. Rest in peace beautiful Marvin. 🎶💙
I disagree. Some of these are only telling us about their life. And in the end, I would rather trust them more than these phony, mask wearing synthetic people anyday.
I strongly disagree. I used to have the same opinion. Some of it is rubbish. Not all. Every one of these artists have a story to express themselves. Their music tells their experiences. It actually helps some sectors of society. In the world that we live in, not every life is about love and peace. Violence is also. Hurt, pain revenge, etc. They reach folks and relate to their experiences as well.
Marvin Gaye through his song Mercy Mercy Mercy Me he made every person young & old, rich & poor black, yellow, brown & white, feel the woes of the whole world. I was only 11 years old when I 1st heard this song and I instantly felt his passion for the pain & suffering of the world & it laid heavy in my conscious and in my heart as it echoed in my ears & I realized that pain & suffering is real but only our Father who Art in Heaven can heal the hearts & minds of mankind. But Marvin Gaye brought the reality of pain & suffering to the forefront of everyone who who ever had ears to hear this song & through this song he will always be remembered.
Eu tenho sentimentos más poucas coisas fazem lágrimas cair dos meus olhos, hoje aqui essa preciosidade do Marvin aqui tão bem remodelada ! Obrigado por ter feito e compartilhado 👍🏻
I love this song and it reminds me of wanting world peace, no more molestation, no more violence, no more destruction, no more war, just no DRAMA. Free to love whoever because love is what conquers but does not divide nor destroy.
This soulful man was a visionary he. Not only sang with truth he shared his feelings within his self the songs he sang gave so much comfort and peace to everyone else blessings be upon you Marvin may the peace that you gave to others last forever with in your soul rest in peace 🙏🏿

In 1970 I was probably 16, just learning what the world was about. War, love and hope. Hope that the Vietnam war would end. Marvin was great. Right on!

It is surprising to me that neith one of his kids became music artist. rare. Marvin was the man but in a battle with satan. Drugs took control of his life. RIP beautiful soul.
Oh boy Brother Marvin, how ahead of your time were you, way back in '71 when I first heard 'What's going On' & was wondering exactly the same ! And here we are in 2024 & nothing's changed, in fact the blind are still leading the blind, those with hearing still don't hear. The kids are dying fighting in foreign countries, thugs sit in our seats of governments & voices still cry out for 'A Change to Come'. Then again, Hope continues to rise Eternal & enlightenment continues to inspire. Maybe one day 'Humankind' will stop and say, "Today is the Day, we'll become Hunan & Kind again. Will you join me" ? 😊❤
Turning 70 on Saturday the 10th of February…..this came on the radio as I sat on my bedroom floor being a teenager at 17. Although I had no mature understanding what he was telling us all about; these words hit something deep down in my heart. I had no idea!!!! Racism The Vietnam war and everything this song says began to happen. All around all of us. Only I could see a little bit better. At 70, which is way too long, I can see. So sad. What’s the matter with all of us?!!
I feel you on this one, because we have been around long enough (I am 79) to know the truth!! It's easier for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle than to live righteously on a daily basis. Too many of GOD'S PEOPLE are loving sin more than they love GOD 😢‼️
Sitting on a pile of sandbags in Vietnam thinking of family and friends. Love Marvin Gaye and his music. He had something to say. Kids today have no idea what talent really is. RIP brother.
And that's what itt all about. Music is the glue the language that brings all people together. Regardless of race religion or where you were raised. It is the conscience of the human race. Be grateful for ALL Artists. For I believe they all are a gift from the Father. He reaches us
How can you not love this man and his music. Been listening since the 70's. His music always made you feel something. Tragic that he is not with us still. His music never gets old. Thank you Mr. Gaye. Love you.
If u lived thru those times u understand the meaning. Most young people can't understand those times and what young people went thru. This song still has great meaning because we are at war somewhere in this world. The man had a great voice and he shared his gift with all of us.
I was close to people in music industry in Detroit in those days... It's been said that he and Stevie re-tracked and sang themselves, as their own back up singers. Eventually, that caught on.
Undoubtedly one of the greatest soulful artist of all time! Though he lived in a time of war, racism, poverty and social injustice.. these things are still prevalent today, therefore making his music timeless.
Thanks to all who served in Vietnam it was intense lots of men lost my husband did five tours and died from exposure to agent Orange when we married he was on dialysis then open heart surgery seemed like it was never going to stop he fought and together we got the best care i never left his side love at first sight he took my breath away before i knew it God called him home .he was navy he been gone now fifteen yrs seems like yesterday he told me something about Vietnam was angry at few things with God i can live without him i would not be here thankful for faith, love and for giving those that were a chance to come home not in a body bag.praise God.❤
Marvin was way ahead of all of us, singing, basically Preaching about society, and all of our faults against one another, how true it is today 2024!! If he was still here with us physically not mentally, oh the changes he could have made for us!! I listen too this everyday too remind me just how smart and true he was, through his Gift of singing!! Love you brother and thank you for this classic 🙏
In a way, he is…but I get your point. Marvin Gaye’s one of those talents that you figure would be doing amazing things in the studio if he was still around. I think the same thing about Jimi Hendrix. Maybe a Marvin/Hendrix collaboration…?

INDEED MISTER COLLIER HE WAS THAT GOOD IT WAS A AWFUL THING THAT HAPPENED TO HIM
@@jonathanstrong4812
And being selfish, an AWFUL THING that happened to us.
It was the summer of 1970, as our family drove to Chicago from Kansas City, this song came on the radio for the first time. My heart was moved, and when the song ended, tears streamed down from my face. Miraculously, later that summer in Detroit Michigan, I would meet Marvin Gaye. ❤
Awesome...
Great music causes a physical reaction.
Que privilégio o seu conhecer Marvin.🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷
@janisewoody5276,pas de hasard, les vibrations aux mêmes niveaux et informations transmises et reçues...❤😍😍😍💐
Brings back the best Young Teen age years. The Happiest part of my Growing up was the R & B MUSIC. Thank God, Bless them and their Songs are everlasting in my heart. ❤ 😅
Best album of all times. Great artistry with a message. Just brilliant.
Why don't we make music like this no more.
Because of Satan! He wants foul language and our young people disrespecting themselves! 🙏
They can't!!!
You are sooo right! what happened to love and happiness!! Another great singer 😂❤
They don't know how to make good music, they think cursing and screaming is music!
Yes, Sir Marvin GAY. Blessings R. I. P.
All the comments honoring this classic song are so very very true I can’t put into words how I feel
Earth needs Marvin as much in the 21st century as it did in the 20th century !
The song never gets old and neither does this loop.
This version just goes on and on …our ears are riding a soul train to paradise
The music of today - especially violent and aggressive rap rubbish - is an insult to all those who crafted and sang beautiful songs like this. Rest in peace beautiful Marvin. 🎶💙
I disagree. Some of these are only telling us about their life. And in the end, I would rather trust them more than these phony, mask wearing synthetic people anyday.
I generally agree. Music today sucks. I do think only Indy and hip hop have anything to offer

We was "WOKE" way back when!
Your salute to Marvin is truly heart felt

I love this song and it reminds me of wanting world peace, no more molestation, no more violence, no more destruction, no more war, just no DRAMA. Free to love whoever because love is what conquers but does not divide nor destroy.

I watched a special show on Motown tonight. The song he sang What's going on from the 70's can still speak for today. It touched my soul 😢
Foi embora tão cedo mas nos deixou sua linda voz com essas canções que nos toca a alma😔❤
I remember my mom playing this song over and over again, i'm 59, I really didn't understand what Marvin was saying until she passed away in 2006, and I started playing it just like she did, driving my kids crazy like she did me. so glad moms introduced me to such a awesome singer, muchlove to moms and Marvin❤

In 1970 I was probably 16, just learning what the world was about. War, love and hope. Hope that the Vietnam war would end. Marvin was great. Right on!
Welcome home bro
Wow, I’m 69 years old and I’ve seen a lot specially, what he was singing about. He was way ahead of his time damn it brings tears to my eyes
My father was a proud soldier of the United States. I miss him everyday.

Marvin had a vision that only God could have given him! Somehow people that have this power/blessings aren’t with us with longevity. His music lives on and is unmatched!!!🔥
Brings tears to my eyes!
BEAUTIFUL!! SIMPLY BEAUTIFUL. Thank you God for blessing the universe with his music!!
Too bad his Preacher Father put a bullit in his head!
@@robertbrolin6206 Satan didn’t want such a Beautiful Soul in this world, so he used marvin gaye, sr, to snuff out that Beautiful Soul. This is terrible of me, but I hope Sr suffered many years for his deed. Forgive me Dear Lord. We still hurt. ❤
I couldn’t had said better ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Thank you. Said beautifully his music will ALWAYS inspire us to be and do better.✨✨✨✨✨
So true.
Have a beautiful day
A Lot HAS changed since then, unfortunately for the worse and his music speaks to what would end up happening and he wasn't Wrong.
We are hoping and wishing that America will do the right thing.....Can I suggest Every vote matters?
Have Hope, we are in a new transition. Maybe hate will dissipate!

Turning 70 on Saturday the 10th of February…..this came on the radio as I sat on my bedroom floor being a teenager at 17. Although I had no mature understanding what he was telling us all about; these words hit something deep down in my heart. I had no idea!!!!
Racism
The Vietnam war and everything this song says began to happen.

True
Ja lieber Carsten es geht weiter, unsere Musik besteht fur ewig. Love to you.

In a way, he is…but I get your point. Marvin Gaye’s one of those talents that you figure would be doing amazing things in the studio if he was still around. I think the same thing about Jimi Hendrix. Maybe a Marvin/Hendrix collaboration…?
