Lyrics
Like a warrior that fights
And wins the battle
I know the taste of victory
Though I went through some nights
Consumed by shadows
I was crippled emotionally
Somehow I made it through the heartache
Yes I did. I escaped.
I found my way out of the darkness
I kept my faith (I know you did), kept my faith
When the river was deep I didn't falter
When the mountain was high I still believed
When the valley was low it didn't stop me, no no
I knew you were waiting.
I knew you were waiting for me
With an endless desire
I kept on searching
Sure in time our eyes would meet
Like the bridge is on fire
The hurt is over,
One touch and you set me free
No, I don't regret a single moment,
No, I don't (I know you don't) looking back
When I think of all those disappointments
I just laugh (I know you do), I just laugh
When the river was deep I didn't falter
When the mountain was high I still believed
When the valley was low it didn't stop me
I knew you were waiting.
I knew you were waiting for me
So we were drawn together through destiny (oh, boy)
I know this love we shared was meant to be
I knew you were waiting,
Knew you were waiting
I knew you were waiting,
Knew you were waiting for me
I didn't falter
I still believed
When the valley was low it didn't stop me
I knew you were waiting.
I knew you were waiting for me
I didn't falter
When the mountain was high I still believed
When the valley was low it didn't stop me
I knew you were waiting.
I knew you were waiting for me

Yep still listening - just the best song and singers PERFECT!
George Michael was the man..no wonder all the big names wanted to work with him and him more so with them.. I'm sure alongside Freddie, and his mate Elton, if George was alive his film would be right up there with the rest.... They do not make them like they used to.... He was truly one of a kind, unapologetically so...

Aretha looks so amazing here. She didn't get enough credit for how gorgeous she was.
One of if not the best duets. The tones in both voices always gives goosebumps. Still listening nearly 40 years later!

George Michael came to Detroit and did 2 nights of his Faith concert. What an extra special treat when he said he usually had to do this duet by himself "but not tonight! Please help me welcome Aretha Franklin!" And we got to hear this as it was meant to be heard. What a special experience!!
WOW ....

Yes, because we can go back in time:)
Sadly, no, they never will.

We have to teach them. My daughter is a young old head😅.
Speaking as someone (31) who was not raised on this kind of music and found it myself, yes, we will! We also have amazing artists in our generation too, I was brought here from the duet that Adam Lambert and Cynthia Erivo did of this song. Worth a listen because they did amazing justice in honoring these legends and carrying on a powerful music legacy
George Michael could hold his own in a duet with anyone! Him and Aretha. Him and Whitney. That man was blessed!! And truly missed 😢

@@TV-ob1if... really??? To "even" be in her presence???? Who do you think he was??? Not worthy of singing just absolutely awesome....Let me tell you something, not only was he worthy and extremely able to hold his own above and beyond, with all due respect for Mrs. Franklin, against her, but against anyone else for that matter... you might be somewhat bias and racist to your race and like making people feel less, especially when it's someone not of your race... you're just like The LeBron James's of the world... grow up and really learn to appreciate and recognize real music and true musical genuine geniuses, instead of making stupid ass comments...

I heard when it was mentioned they both didn't think they were in each other's leagues but the record companies recorded separately and put the together anyway.
@@colinellesmere Then it happened.
That's crazy --- I just a moment ago wrote above that he must have been intimidated by her because nobody is in her league when it comes to the sheer power of her voice. It's breathtaking.
He always had a powerful voice though I see how her voice can be daunting though ..she probably had a more powerful voice than Whitney and that's saying alot
He was 24 and she was 46 at the time! Amazing together! Power houses!

Two beautiful voices met and made one helluva song. 💗
What a duet ❤
This song is now 31 years old...and better than most of the shit music we are subjected to today. Newer generations missed out on such great music from the 1980s and early 1990s.
Some good stuff from the late 1970s as well, like Le Freak by Chic for instance.
Again, I can't stand people putting down musicians of any age. Your parents said the same damn thing about your music and the artist you listened to as so did their parents. Stop being so damn negative about nothing.
Agreed 💯💯👏🏽👏🏽
No Kidding , This had to have come out around 86 because it was playing all the time in the Clubs when I was a freshman ... As was Loverboys " Working for a Living " which wasn't a Favorite althought "Shattered"was Great . From the Mid 70's to about the late 80's you had such diversity anything from the Pretenders to Ramones or Then Kansas and Boston or even Blondie ACDC What do they have now ..... Well UA-cam and if there Smart they will listen to some of those Songs... I suggest they start with Hmm Eagles maybe Teq. Sunrise.?
Well.said
Look...I remember when this song came out. I was 23 years old and I knew this was 🔥 back then. I'm watching this video 35 years later and the gravity of this situation is hitting me hard. Back then, these were two _highly_ respected singers in their respective genres with only tenure separating them. Aretha earned her crown decades before, and George was the relative new kid, but his talent out-distanced his years. At the time, it was an unexpected pairing, but it only took one listen to realize this was something very special. It's music like this that makes me miss the '80s so much...
65 & can listen to these two all day long on full blast.I read George was extremely honored that she accepted to sing this w/ him.
Nail on the head, Neil Truick.👍

Whoever came up with the idea for this duet was a frigging genius
He was xx
Agreed. Years ago I used to run into the producer of this song from time to time. (Narada Michael Walden) One time I asked him about the recording. He said George was pretty nervous about singing with Aretha. And she was aware and did not just want to blow away the poor young guy with her vocals. Narada said when he got his desired vocals from George he kept wanting to do it again. Narada had to convince him that everything was fine he had gotten what he wanted. And that was a fact because it turned out beautifully!
ABSOLUTELY !!!
George's idea, he admired Aretha ever since he was young.
@Shanina Wabitson I miss them too. They were unique and this song lives in my heart untill the end of times.
Two legends who are gone way too soon.
Storm I don't think George was a big legend as Aretha was. Their levels are different.
Yeah, most of the time I focus on being a human being. I've been surfing UA-cam checking out Aretha Franklin videos that are part of the "Gen X" era.
Way too soon. I watched this video right after I learned of Aretha's passing. I was sad because now both of them are gone😢
