People didn't pay attention but I remember seeing Rob Halford embrace his lover on the stage at the US Festival. People were shocked when Joe Lynn Turner recently removed his wig, but they didn't pay attention that his hair never moved. Some people actually believed that Gene Simmons didn't wear a wig Are the Don Dokken didn't get hair extensions back in the mid '80s along with half of the '80s bands like Cinderella and Poison. Come on man it's theater half of the world's male population starts losing their hair by the time to hit their late thirties, it's just real life. So what.
It's interesting that Izzy has this same moment in an earlier scene but from the reverse reason. The other thing that is ironic is Izzy ultimately leaves for the same reason his ideol left wanting a change and doing his own thing. But what's missed at first is you think the front man is the problem whem later you realize it's the band that's the problem and the singer is not only burnt out on the lies but of them. Great bit of writing taking many stories from the music industry through the decades and blending some good writing with it.
By 2001, when this film came out, the metal rock scene was outdated and replaced by grunge which was also passe. The tribute singer who replaced Halford in Judas Priest said the band was doing clubs and not the stadiums they used to.
You couldn't be more wrong bud. Rock and metal were at an all time high. Ozzfest was dominating the summer concert scene. Korn, disturbed, static x, system of a down, Chevelle, Marilyn Manson, etc, . were dominating the charts. Rock and metal were at an all time high in the 90s and 2000s
Yeah i even think Tim Owens ( for those who don't know he's the guy that Mark Wahlberg is playing) hated how they completely made up how he got in the band and how Rob "character" was portrayed..
I remember Rocklahoma’s first year was 2007 and everyone thought it would be a joke as it was a festival of nothing but “washed up” 80s hair bands. Ended up being a huge unexpected hit. Mid to late 2000s is really when you saw the hair metal revival, I saw Def Leppard with Bret Michaels opening around 2008 or so when Bret was doing his Rock of Love show which also help spur it on I think. I really think a big part was played by all the big hair girls now grown up and seeing the VH1 show and wanting to get back out there in their leopard pants & leather jackets & have fun again bringing their hubbies or even kids along, it just needed time for that demographic to grow up and get nostalgic.
Been listening to Priest since Rock a Rolla. First time I saw them video of them before Sin after Sin, I got the vibe Halford was and when they went full leather it should have been obvious to everyone. Never had a second thought about it, because he is such a phenomenal singer.
Saw this film on vacation up in Lake Tahoe, CA 09/13/01 two days after 09/11. Was really shaken by events and my wife suggested we go see this movie to take our minds off things. Funny thing was I heard later that M. Wahlberg was supposed to be AA flight 11 but missed his flight. Spooky.
Extremely. The singer is who 90%+ people identify as the "sound" of the band. If you're going to replace your singer, it better be before you hit your stride as a band (Iron Maiden comes to mind).
@@iamthem.a.n.middleagednerd1053I never even knew that Iron Maiden replaced the singer, because I didn't get into them till I was a teenager in the 90s. Static X is somehow making it work.
It is just a mockery, Elvis was the king and he is just the queen because he can't be the king since his gay so he will never be enough to be a king. The wig thing was just an acting decision to make it more dramatic and maybe it represents the end of his carreer. Like hanging the tie.
In addition to what @marcobrenes explained as it being a riff on elvis, "queen" refers to a gay man. And its a general riff on the effeminate style of rock and roll bands.
That’s true how many of the most genetic British talented artist came from England 🇬🇧. Who better for entertainment and still to this day from music especially, movies/film and some interesting intense kinky porn than the Brits!?!?♥️🏴🇬🇧🎩🌂✨🤹🏻♀️🎭🥁🎶🤯
2:10 Why didn't you just show up to all the recording sessions and gigs like a professional? First time I watched this movie I felt bad for the singer as he was getting kicked out. It was only in later viewings that I listened to the band's reasons. "I AM Steel Dragon!!" This guy was ate up with LSS and it was time to put a foot down.
Fine fine acting right here.
lol
This does foreshadow the rest of the film's journey.
A truly underrated movie, too bad because in my humble opinion I really enjoyed it and still watch it every now and then to this day 🤘🏼
In the space of two minutes, Chris Cole's idol dissolves before his eyes.
Disagree. It has nothing to do with the idol, rather the pretender gets a lesson in reality.
Baltimore P.D.'s undercover department is serious work.
McNulty still trying to take Avon Barksdale but completing side missions in the process 😭
::tried not to choke on his drink from laughing:::
He had to go Greek to get the Greeks.
Kim’s a guy?? lol 😂 great line delivery by wahlberg

I remember one of the girls on Rock of Love calling out Bret Michaels and his hair extensions. He came forward and admitted to having them.

They did Rob Halford dirty in this movie.

Yup
Great camera angle of them staring at us as Mark Wahlberg. Great acting & actors. Underrated movie.
The similarities between SD and Marks cover band when he split are awesome. But yeah, never meet your heroes.
Good movie, very underappreciated.
Really showing things full circle 👁️
Never meet your heros.
He “had a never meet your heroes” moment.
This move was ahead of its time. America didn’t embrace the 80s until 2015 and all the back to the future day craze hit

nothing you said made any sense
I’d say the 80s popularity boomed from Grandtheft Auto Vice City an early 2000s game.
Nah, 80s nostalgia began in the late 90s and 2000s
🎭He killed the ending of that scene.
McNulty and Rawls in another dimension
"What the fck did i do?"
0:14 I love that movie
No I got both my nipples pierced bought a house in Morocco because I'm John f&$kng Wayne! Haha!
Zakk Wylde... Oh man.
"Yew calm down yew wankah!!"
Zakk still running the frets in the scene.
LOL!!! @ 00:36
Is that McNulty from The Wire
Actually a pretty sad scene.
Marky Mark, Rachel Green, Peter Pettigrew, Jimmy Mcnulty and Lord Otto High Tower in a recording studio.
I bet that was a shock to the system😅😅
Me finding out Rob Halford was Gay
Been listening to Priest since Rock a Rolla. First time I saw them video of them before Sin after Sin, I got the vibe Halford was and when they went full leather it should have been obvious to everyone. Never had a second thought about it, because he is such a phenomenal singer.
No true metalhead gave a single f that Halford was gay. Like every metalhead knew Freddy Mercury was gay, but none of us cared.
How many bands when through the lead Singer, Lead Guitar, Drummer Syndrome.
lol you left out the bass player ... the most easily replaceable member... i joke bassists

If Wahlberg had been on that flight those hijackers would have never succeeded. According to M. Wahlberg.
Dominic West looks exactly like Dean Davidson from Britny Fox.
Zakk 😂
Funny because Robs playing with Judas Priest again
brian may dan mick jagger bertengkar dg british accent nya 😂 anw, gitarisnya sebelum jadi agen jahat dan ngejar mr bean ya
I’m glad Mcnulty landed on his feet after being fired from bpd!
Mark Wahlberg looks like Grand Funk Railroad’s Mark Farner.
Isn't it actually hard to replace the main singer???

Zakk wants it hard but I guess he was just born to lose.
McNulty! 😂
Am I an idiot for not getting the "and I'm just the queen" line? Like what is the significance of him wearing a wig
