What's important to understand that this is a long movie, this scene is in the middle of it, and before that this character is only seen one for like a minute of screen time on a screen. If you would watch that at the time of release and had no knowledge of Tom Cruise being in it, which nobody at the time did, because he wasn't in the title, you probably would miss it, just like most people did. He felt weird, you might have suspected something, but a lot of people missed it. Especially because at the time Tom Cruise never associated with that level of comedy and had a certain reputation and image.

Because this cast wasn't the A-list cast that it is now. Iron Man came out the same year as Tropic Thunder and this was when RDJ was out of prison/rehab and struggling to find solid projects. Kung-Fu Panda also came out the same year, and Jack Black was basically only known for House of Rock. This was before Interstellar, so Matthew McConaughey was really only known for Sahara and other smaller films like Contact. Bill Hader was only known to people familiar with SNL, but even then, this was before his (arguably) most popular sketch, The Californians. With exception to Tom Cruise, Ben Stiller was probably the most famous actor at the time of this movie's release. Basically Ben was really good at networking and just happened to get a bunch of talented actors together before they achieved massive success with other franchises and movies.
The point of their terrorism is to provoke an overreaction. And yeah; the West overreacted. 🤣 Now there is more death and violence and terror than ever.
This is Tom Cruise's finest hour. And one of the funniest scenes in movie history. And let's not forget how amazing Matthew was as well. This....is comedy gold.

Tom Cruise was actually approached to play the lead, but he was too busy during the early production so the main lead role went to the director Ben Stiller. Tom did read the script however and suggested they add the character of Les Grossman to add more tension to the film. Later on, Cruise was able to free some time up on his schedule and at that point, the only character who wasnt cast was Les Grossman. So Cruise happily took the role.
You can't even say Tom Cruise didn't play the shit out of this role he was so unrecognizable and so hilarious the whole cast was I love this movie to this day
He was actually the one who came up with the props.. They wanted him to dress and act normal, but he convinced the director to make his hands look bigger. He also convinced them that his character should dance.

Also props to him for not having a big ego and actually giving all the other guys enough space for them to work on their characters, even though he also starred in the movie. Great actor and also excellent director, who knows exactly how to use the talent around him. This movie is perfect.

He truly did. It's these small details that make this movie great. Bill Harder barely says or does anything in this movie, but those little moments he gets with Tom Cruise, he just knows how to play off him perfectly and what their character dynamic needs to be. Perfect casting.

4:20 "Speedman is a dying star. A white dwarf, heading for a black hole. That's physics. It's inevitable." is so chilling and well-delivered. Cruise is too good.
It's also so very wrong because white dwarfs are actually remnants of stars that did not have enough mass to collapse into a black hole or a neutron star. All of this makes Grossman even more of a silly character and I love it.
It's so chillingly well-delivered, because it's also a fairly accurate description of Tom Cruise himself, and what will happen to himself and all of Hollywood if/when he finally implodes.

Because despite Tom Cruise being an extremely weird person he was always one of the best action actors and has a good sense of comedy which he didn't have a chance to show often.
It's his disproportionate body. Tiny head, big torso, big arms, big hands. And the bald head with glasses. Disproportionate physiological features attract attention; but his character keeps you hooked.
Don't recall exactly when I figured it out during the scenes (or if somebody blurted it out in the theater); I just recall being absolutely blown away when that character started dancing and say'n "playa". I don't think I fully realized it was Tom until his solo dance. I mean, a house had to fall on me before I "knew" it was him, he went so deep into character. I didn't know he was in it (was he on the playbill?) and was loving the movie up to that point, and Tom took it over the top. This shit's a comedy classic like Caddy Shack.

Tom Cruise was actually approached to play the lead, but he was too busy during the early production so the main lead role went to the director Ben Stiller. Tom did read the script however and suggested they add the character of Les Grossman to add more tension to the film. Later on, Cruise was able to free some time up on his schedule and at that point, the only character who wasnt cast was Les Grossman. So Cruise happily took the role.
You can't even say Tom Cruise didn't play the shit out of this role he was so unrecognizable and so hilarious the whole cast was I love this movie to this day

He truly did. It's these small details that make this movie great. Bill Harder barely says or does anything in this movie, but those little moments he gets with Tom Cruise, he just knows how to play off him perfectly and what their character dynamic needs to be. Perfect casting.

It's also so very wrong because white dwarfs are actually remnants of stars that did not have enough mass to collapse into a black hole or a neutron star. All of this makes Grossman even more of a silly character and I love it.

Don't recall exactly when I figured it out during the scenes (or if somebody blurted it out in the theater); I just recall being absolutely blown away when that character started dancing and say'n "playa". I don't think I fully realized it was Tom until his solo dance. I mean, a house had to fall on me before I "knew" it was him, he went so deep into character. I didn't know he was in it (was he on the playbill?) and was loving the movie up to that point, and Tom took it over the top. This shit's a comedy classic like Caddy Shack.
