That tree you seen that was bent,that is what they call a "trail tree",the indians marked trails by bending small saplings over and tied them so it marked a trail that they often used,kind of like a major highway.

Great video nuggetnoggin thanks for sharing it. The ATX was designed for Prospecting and it's very good at doing that. Any PI machine isn't as accurate in discriminating like the VLF machines. At least the ATX does have some amount of discrimination which is more than what I can say for the other PI machines. Keep up the great work nuggetnoggin and don't get discouraged by what other people say about this machine, you will always find Whyners where ever you go. :)

That tree at 13:00 is most likely a marker or signal tree. I do know the natives warped trees for markers for their trails. It could be a pointer for a treasure cache.
Nugget; The Garrett machine looks heavy and unwieldy- how did you find the ergonomics? In other words,was it comfortable to use and fairly light? It looks heavy. The machine you should get in your hands on is the XP Deus detector- wireless headphones and coil,light weight and looks extremely powerful and accurate- I may replace my AT Pro with the Deus. I hate going through the weeds and underbrush with all the wires and from the reviews it looks like the Deus is very light and extremely adjustable-4 frequency settings,etc. What's your opinion?

You can tell if the target is ferrous or conductive by the tone the detector makes when passing over the target. High-Low means conductive 10:45 , and low-high means ferrous 4:58. The Garrett Infinium works similar to the ATX except the ATX has the confirm low grunt button. Using the tones helps speed up searching in trashier areas.
You know nuggetnoggin, I think I'll stick to my AT Pro and Minelab 705. But there is one feature that I dearly love on this machine you test drove today, and that's it's ability to fold up in such a small package. The XP Deus has a similar ability to collapse. Great ideas!!! Metal detectors are so awkward to carry back into the deep woods on long hikes. You either end up with a large pack on your back, or have the machine swinging around smacking into the sticks and bushes and such. Obviously I don't need to tell you this, with all the times you've headed out to old house sites, but here in Germany, it's not uncommon to walk in 5-8 miles to get to a WW2 battle site. Sometimes there are forest roads, because roads helped the army with mobility in trying to maneuver onto the enemy position, but often if a particular force had retreat out of an area, and try to flank an artillery position, such as the Battle of the Bulge, there simply aren't roads. When men's lives are at stake, under a hail of German 88's, they pay very little attention to the road way. During this hellacious battle, the lines surged and flexed back and forth, and it ended up with the Americans and Germans using the same fox holes over and over. It's very common thing to find German rations and mess kits and Mauser ammo, in the same hole that you find American mess kits and canteens and Garand ammo. What a hell of a fight!!! Now, even with all the evidence around you that something really violent and bad happened there, it's a beautiful and peaceful place. In fact even more so than most of the European forests and old battlefields. Just something different about that place. About 90,000 casualties each on both sides during that fight. But it's difficult to swing your detector and carry it along through the thick stuff, as you hunt down the direction of troop movements during the fight. Having the ability to fold up your detector into a small package like that, is a nice thing!!! Maybe with all your pull over at Garrett ;) you could get them to make a retrofit package for the AT models!! Mars makes something that allows you to push the coil forward, similar to the XP Deus, as a one size fits all, but it's pretty expensive for it here in Germany, and they're difficult to find. Most of the detector retailers are up in the UK, very few in Germany and in Austria. They always seem to be sold out off them. What do you think nugget? Willing to get Garrett to make a folder for the AT series? Love your channel, and have been a sub for a very long time. I have just opened another channel called Behind the Coil, and plan to start filming some of my hunts. Still waiting on my Piranha from Predator tools to arrive. According to the Customs email, it looks like it will be after the snow starts falling before it gets here. In the meantime, I'm stuck with a White's detectors shovel and really don't care much for it. Long handle and a really short blade. Just doesnt work so well when much of the targets are down over a foot. At least the good targets. My AT Pro is one of the newer International versions.. Just got it a couple of weeks ago. I have to say, that I'm pretty darned impressed with it!! Between you and aquachigger, and the hoover boys, y'all are the ones that convinced me to give the AT Pro a try out. Using the stock coil on that, in a high iron, high acid super dry clay ground, clay like cement, I was able to find a 1 Reichs pfennig from 1908 at 35cm, under a couple of nails and bolts. It was picking up both targets. But that 1 pfennig (1 cent) showed up clear and strong. The 1 pfennig is the smallest coin that Germany ever minted. about the size of my little finger nail. It is very tiny. But rang in at a solid 58 and stayed at 58 all the way down to it. It's in beautiful shape for a coin that size, made out of some kind of a bronze type material for over 110 years. If you ever want to try a dig over here nuggetnoggin, just drop me a note on either of my channels. The most expensive part of a Euro vacation is the hotel room, and while it's the most uncomfortable couch I've ever fallen asleep on, you're welcome to it. Airfare is actually pretty cheap, and Delta flies nonstop to Stuttgart daily from Atlanta Ga. Check out one of the cheap tickets websites. I've seen nonstop from Stuttgart to San Francisco (near my stateside home) for as low as 200 euros, or about $225 at that time. But in the $500-$700 is pretty commonly available. That pine tree had it's trunk broken off at some point in it's youth. What you're seeing is called an epicormic sprout, which roughly means 'middle center' or 'middle of trunk'. Since the main trunk was gone, it grew a branch out of the side of the stump, curving it upwards and thickening it until a new trunk was formed. You can tell by the texture and direction of the bark, it resembles a scar and it points out how the new branch grew.
Mike,check out "Indian Trail Tree on Flint River",type that into your search,it's a video of a tree just like the one you found although it's just a different specie of tree.As much as you're out and about keep an eye out for these trees they are big time historical.
Very expensive machine to say it still gives a good signal, then dig up to find its iron youve dug up. Does the same job as a lower cost detector. Great video. Good review

The ATX might be good for getting small gold nuggets out in the dessert. But for relic hunting i would go with an AT pro. And if you live in an area with hammered coins and small silver pieces go for a XP Deus for the 3 times faster Reactivity. Regards from Denmark :)
Nugget, I just read an article concerning trees that were bent exactly like the one you showed on camera in this video. They were bent by Native Americans and used to mark important trails, burial mounds, water sources, etc. Do a google on Native American bent trees/trail markers.

I bought the ATX Pro, just for gold hunting, and haven't found squat (which I know can happen with any detector). The part that ticked me off though was I was out and a guy had a Minelab SDC 2300 and comes over to show me his find (little nugget at Rye Patch). The ATX would not even detect it with either coil, evdn touching the coil on it! I got my Whites GMT and it was loud zip zip even at a distance of 3" away from the nugget and then even placing a rock on top of the nugget. But, I sure find nails, tiny pieces of rusted cans and bullets galor with my $2,300 machine. It's one thing to not be lucky in finding gold but madening to put the coil (both of them) right ON a nugget and not get a signal when 2 other brands and two technologies detect it. Even adjusted disc and sensitivity.
Yes, Prairie Bilton, it was. I just got it back from the factory shop. It had so much wrong with the coil and stem (smallest of the two that come with the Pro model), they just gave me a new one. It's been retuned too and the large coil is great in air tests now. Really excited to get into the gold field again. It was more like $2,700, I'm not sure why I typed $2,300 before.
I think PI machine's are cool. I'd take that sucker to a beach or the desert or. Look for gold nuggets down under... Cool to see that machine in action. That tree you found is actually a historic marker... Native American's bent trees over like that and tied them down to point in a direction. Of a town/settlement or something important that people needed to find. That tree is relic itself... Do a goolge search for Indian Pointing Trees, you can see pictures of them and read more about them. I think they can be reported and recorded. Cool find in itself, its really a historic tree !! Keep @ it and HH !!
That appears to be a very good machine,its the 2500 price that's hard to swallow.Now if i lived in Alaska,Arizona or Australia i would own one. Good setup and use video.Any one of those 22 rounds could of been a nugget.
Love your vids; keep them coming. I detect in Oregon, and have a White's Classic 3 SL that I bought back around 1999 that I still use. I will eventually upgrade to the ATX I think. Beautiful machine. Seems like not many people use White's machines any more. Happy hunting!
If you got any military buddies. You should see if they can hook you up with a military detector and record it. I'm talking about the ones they use to find mines and stuff. That'd be really cool.

+Dawn Lindgron I wouldn't recommend it as a beginners detector. The ATX is very heavy and it takes a while to learn the sounds, plus it's only good for gold prospecting in bad dirt and hunting deep relics. For most metal detecting sites an Garrett AT pro metal detector will be your best choice. The AT pro is more affordable as compared to the ATX in this video. some FMJ-bullets are magnetic as well as they have a steel jacket... why I know? because I have a 50cal FMJ bullet that has a slight damage as it got hit by an other bullet in the catching wall that was filled with sand :)
best atx test I have seen and on every day sights. and you say what you see . great job. BUT you still like your at pro and it gives you your depth. pity you coundnt get a ctx 3030 against atx. mr garrett should give you a job a natural in all aspects of metal detecting. nice one:-)
The nail looks like an old handmade nail. Anyway years ago it would be common for people to burn down old houses so they could get the nails to re use them.

In pi machines, don't use either ground balance or disc unless you really need it. They reduce the detection depth.

AT pro is a VLF system and ATX puls system, I am sure ATX can go more deeper than AT Pro for relic hunting!

thanks, i found an arrowhead back in 2009 at the same site maybe 800 feet from the tree. indians supposly occupied the area in the mid 1700s there

I think PI machine's are cool. I'd take that sucker to a beach or the desert or. Look for gold nuggets down under... Cool to see that machine in action. That tree you found is actually a historic marker... Native American's bent trees over like that and tied them down to point in a direction. Of a town/settlement or something important that people needed to find. That tree is relic itself... Do a goolge search for Indian Pointing Trees, you can see pictures of them and read more about them. I think they can be reported and recorded. Cool find in itself, its really a historic tree !!

That appears to be a very good machine,its the 2500 price that's hard to swallow.Now if i lived in Alaska,Arizona or Australia i would own one. Good setup and use video.Any one of those 22 rounds could of been a nugget.
Love your vids; keep them coming. I detect in Oregon, and have a White's Classic 3 SL that I bought back around 1999 that I still use. I will eventually upgrade to the ATX I think. Beautiful machine. Seems like not many people use White's machines any more. Happy hunting!

Would this be a good beginners metal detector ? Are they really spendy ?
+Dawn Lindgron I wouldn't recommend it as a beginners detector. The ATX is very heavy and it takes a while to learn the sounds, plus it's only good for gold prospecting in bad dirt and hunting deep relics. For most metal detecting sites an Garrett AT pro metal detector will be your best choice. The AT pro is more affordable as compared to the ATX in this video. some FMJ-bullets are magnetic as well as they have a steel jacket... why I know? because I have a 50cal FMJ bullet that has a slight damage as it got hit by an other bullet in the catching wall that was filled with sand :)

best atx test I have seen and on every day sights. and you say what you see . great job. BUT you still like your at pro and it gives you your depth. pity you coundnt get a ctx 3030 against atx.

The nail looks like an old handmade nail. Anyway years ago it would be common for people to burn down old houses so they could get the nails to re use them.
