Garrett ATX: Aussie Gold!

- On a recent trip to the goldfields we pick up a lovely 0.9 gram gold nugget from some heavily detected hot ironstone/quartz rubble with the Garrett ATX. On this short video, we also demonstrate the settings used and a bonus 'live' dig on a bit of old timers scrap metal deep in the bedrock! This excerpt will be included in a much longer video of the trip coming soon. Thanks for watching and subscribing and Happy Fossicking! Hi Warren,
I’m Chuck.
Got your site from The Weekly Dirt. I love watching Australian videos. I have a Mine Lab Xterra 705. Just started watching you but I will continue. Good hunting and I will see you on your next video
Really interesting to watch and the little nugget was awesome! Very cool Warren~
Thanks for commenting Digsa - Colleen was behind the camera on this occasion! Hope you are well and getting out on some digs soon. Happy Hunting! Warren and Colleen.
The doc says I have to wait at least 1 more week before I can go digging but might have to sneak a try this weekend :) So great to be starting to feel like myself again :)) Hugs to you two from Ohio!!
Both those signals had to be investigated - and you were well rewarded for the effort. Well done Warren - always good to see a nugget being retrieved - and from from well flogged ground too. Nice camera work Colleen. Cheers GL & HF Ian.
Thanks for commenting Iroc - 'dig everything' policy in the goldfields. I probably dug 20 targets down that little gully and one was the nugget. Colleen appreciates you appreciating her camera work LOL. HD/HF mate. Warren.
Fantastic Warren!
Happy prospecting.
Paul.
Thanks for watching Paul - Happy Fossicking mate! Warren.

Nice one Warren, Not much chance of finding gold nuggets here but always nice to see you finding them. Well done mate. Take care and HH. Tony
Thanks for your comment Tony, it may be up to you to discover the first Welsh gold reef LOL. Happy Fossicking mate! Warren.
Warren, now this is what gets my detecting juices going - gold! A great demo of the capabilities of the ATX in gold country. Looks like from what I saw that there has been surfacing in the area so your instinct to detect the eroded areas is a good one. Couldn't help but laugh at the difference in your detecting environment and mine for my recently uploaded gold video from the NSW south coast. GL and HH Ian
Thanks for commenting Willo - actually your latest video where you discovered the 'Old Timer's' shaft was almost identical to one I filmed not far from that ironstone area. There are a number of deep leads (not so common in Queensland) in the area, the old shaft was 4-5 metres deep in a beautiful quartz/ironstone alluvial wash - I assume there was a horizontal drive at the base. Scouting around, the ground appeared to be way too deep to detect - no bedrock for hundreds of metres - best bet was your strategy of the old mullock heaps - except there weren't any! The old timers had taken the lot! A few costeans in the area showed where they had investigated ground further out. Must have been very rich ground in its day. Could you imagine walking into that country with a metal detector in the 1850s! LOL Happy Fossicking mate! Warren.
Great find Warren, I am with you mate the DD coil on the ATX is deadly on those little nuggets.
Matt
Thanks for watching Matt - looking forward to watching your digging up some big ones this year! Happy Fossicking! Warren.
Awesome video ! Congrats on finding the nugget and good luck on your next hunt !
Thanks Yulelah, appreciate the comment mate - HH to you and Indian Had Joe! Warren.
Good one, Warren. Getting out into the WA goldfields is on my bucket list. I'm more of a coin and relic person, but I want to try the nugget hunting at some point.
Appreciate the comment Tex - we are like yourself and actually do a lot more coin and relic hunting, with the occasional trip to the goldfields. Always nice to come home with a nugget though! HH mate! Warren.
Very nice find, Warren...that ATX is one sweet machine for prospecting! Funny, I use Minelab gear here in the states, while you use Garrett machines in the outback...maybe the gear passes somewhere in the night :-) Happy hunting! - Jim
Thanks for watching and for the great comment Jim, yes we have been using Garretts for many years - best thing about our great hobby is the choices we have! Happy Fossicking mate! Warren.
Awesome find and video once again Warren . Its been a little over 2 months since we've found any shiny bits and am starting to get withdrawal symptoms . But i guess the next best thing is watching others find it . Cheers from cold old Melbourne
Thanks for your comment David - hope the winter isn't too severe this year and you can get back up in the goldfields. Happy Fossicking mate! Warren.
Nice gold nugget Warren.
Nice machine and a nice nugget!
Thanks for taking the time to watch and comment James - Happy Fossicking mate! Warren.
Looks like getting there is half the fun Warren. Gold... Nice job with that ATX bud.
Be well,

Thanks for your comment Al - and spot on - getting there is a big part of the adventure. Happy Hunting mate! Warren.

Nice little nugget, i hope you find more of them.
Thanks for your great comment - we are already planning our next trip to the goldfields. Happy Fossicking! Warren.
Warren,
Nice little nugget mate
Thanks Guy - all the best and Happy Fossicking mate! Warren.
Hi Warren i want a rover like yours but wife says i cant have one. but said i could go live with you...LOL....YOU HAVE GREAT VIDEOS.
have you used the new coil yet I am very interested to see how it goes
Is there a way to easily release the ironstone from the nugget? Nice find Warren. GL and HH Hugh
Hugh I believe you can drop the nugget in hydrochloric acid for a few days and it will dissolve the ironstone - I have never tried it - I think the natural state of the gold/ironstone as unearthed is the best way to keep it. For a commercial operation, I suppose the gold would be treated in acid and remelted. Thanks for your comment - Happy Fossicking! Warren.
Awesome find
Great equipments
Did you homemade that digging tool? If it is, that'd be so cool!!
Nice find dude
Hi Warren love the vids, mate totally new to gold detecting , who in QLD handle Garrett atx detectors ? and would you know the cost of the unit, i like the way they find the smaller size nuggets as well. cheers keep up the good work.
Thanks for the comment, if you contact Ben at Gold Diggers Metal Detectors in Mt Gravatt (Brisbane), he will be able to bring you up to speed on the ATX and all its features. It is very easy to use, basically switch on and go with no settings as such, but you do need to put the hours in like any detector to get to know it really well. Hope you do well with your new machine - Happy Fossicking! Warren.
@@NQExplorers Thanks Warren.
Nice gold Warren.
Thanks for your comment Shawn - Happy Hunting mate! Warren.
Great! Never realized a PI could give so much differentiation of target tone. A practiced ear could have a high degree of confidence.
nice nugget :)great video :)
Thanks Michael - always appreciate your comment mate. Happy Hunting! Warren.
enjoyed your video, ATX is quite sensitive, i might be thinking of buying one! how good this machine with coke, do u think this could be used for pasture us, farm fields?
Thanks for your comment Wayne, the ATX is very sensitive and almost immune to EMR. It will run quite smoothly in the most mineralized of soils so should run quite well on farm fields with coke/coal. HH mate! Warren.
Dos any one know were I can get a replacement coils/shaft for my aml 1000
Hi Warren, I have just picked up my new ATX and have a question. How tight do you set the tensoning screw on the DD coil, as I have found that I have to reset the angle of the coil every few minutes. Any tips would be great as so far it has been a great detector only a few small problems. Cheers
Thanks for your comment Tristan, I know that the tensioning screw issue involves the DD coil and neither of the monos - If you continue to have problems with the DD sagging, check with your Garrett Dealer as it may be a warranty issue for replacement of the screw/washers etc. Hope you are making some great finds mate - all the best and Happy Fossicking! Warren.
How long does it take to become familiar with the Garrett ATX and its settings? cheers
One day.
Hey NQ could you please help me out with this, how do you clean coins such as pennies ,2 cents , shillings etc without de valuing the coin thanks heaps😁
G'day Corben, actually you make a good point - ANY cleaning will devalue a valuable coin. All I use is soapy water and a soft toothbrush - use a wooden toothpick to remove any blemishes or 'copper cancer' on the bronze Pennies and Halfpennies. I don't clean the tarnished silvers - I like the look of them and any scratch will devalue them. Less valuable coins you can tumble or use electrolysis, plenty of coin cleaning videos on UA-cam. Hope this helps mate. Happy Fossicking! Warren.
Hey NQ thanks heaps mate that helps me a lot, thx for letting me know about the tip.also for detecting ghost towns and parks etc which is better a Garrett at pro or gold thanks heaps
have a great day
Corben Collard Corben, if you are into old ghost towns or modern parks, the AT Pro International would be your best bet. You can also use it at the beach. The AT Gold is aimed more at gold prospecting in highly mineralized ground, although it is still an outstanding relic hunting machine. Happy Fossicking mate. Warren.
Nice find
Thanks for watching and commenting Sean, and Happy Fossicking mate! Warren.
What is maximum depth you find gold with atx?
Hi Warren i finally bought ATX 11/ 13 coil
Q. It's not discriminating hold detector beside target push and hold discri wait for 2 beeps then wave over target and it just keeps singing away .
Any help would be much appreciated thanks Pat.
Iron check
@@NQExplorers thanks Warren are must be mono it was the latest 11/13 coil. Something about motion mode too or pinpoint . But all good just have to keep swinging and digging lol . But handy to find some clear info along the way.
I honestly thought there was only 1 ,11/13 coil to buy didn't know of DD .
Plus i bought it from a garret dealer camping outdoor supplier maybe i should've bought a barby instead.
All jokes aside prob my fault to haven't read book yet just thought with all your great vids i was on my way and assume the coil would work with all functions the detector has . Love the detector and i know it'll find me gold when i came across it.
But seems to me I'm a step back choosing this coil.
Going to concentrate more golden triangle vic. Am i better off with 10/12 DD ?.
Thanks Warren your help will be greatly appreciated.
REAL YELLOW - The best of it for sure mr warren. i like it. i hope that location is not far from your home.
i am becoming impressed with this ATX i must say. i kinda like it so far.
good luck on your next adventure - i hope you and colleen have a great spin or spins.
see ya
Thanks Max - the ATX would be great on the beaches that you haunt too mate - top notch in the salt water. All the best mate and HH! Warren.
