Just like Clapton's Cream, I feel like Taste was the best work of Rory's entire career. The intensity of his playing at that time is absolutely amazing. I liked all of his stuff after that, but for me Taste will always be a cut above. 2 great studio efforts and one incredible Live at Montreaux. He was only 21 in this vid
Methinks the director was trying to make a UFO Club 'happening' vibe (it's 1969 after all) -don't beat up on the cameraman. Think of the band as accompaniment to some acid induced 'freak out' -like Pink Floyd or Soft Machine. TV folk often get these things a bit wrong.
This is proof of what a brilliant rocking 1st rate band TASTE was. A 3 piece playing with very little equipment who could play many different styles. They were one of those very rare bands that would win you over immediately and whose music would capture your mind for the rest of your life. Is it just me or am I right, In the early days Dave Davies of the Kinks looked very much like our man Rory
This is one of the seminal albums of my youth... and nobody I knew ever heard of Taste. Definitely not played on the radio of that time. But I love this album and still have it in my collection (on vinyl).
This is the only guitarist that Hendrix thought was as good as himself ! Rory and Taste played a few times in my home town BARRY , S WALES , The Memorial Hall , Those were the days !
You know how some countries have mandatory military service, well I think all camera men who will be filming great guitarists should be required to have at least one year of guitar playing service before their allowed to get behind a camera. There would be like 10 million more likes:) Thanks for the post-really dig his playing.
I have a feeling that we aren't seeing the bigger picture, literally. The film seems cropped: the writing is slightly off centre, ect. But, yeah there's too many liberties taken by the camera guy.
This is so fkkn heavy for its time. I just discovered Taste as a 54 year old musician myself. I had no idea who Rory or Taste was. I can’t stop listening to him. The musicianship and writing is so amazing.
I seem to remember seeing the play at the Marquee Club in London, but definitely saw them playing in a support role at the Cream farewell concert at the Royal Albert Hall in 1968 - at that stage they hadn't even released their first album!
wonderfull!!ty! Rory Gallagher with the Taste 1969, Live on french TV💕 Set List: 01-Blister on the Moon 02-Born on the Wrong Side of Time written by Rory Gallagher
What a treasure you've shared. Thanks a million and more for posting, otherwise there would be so much we couldn't know. A shame the band is shadowed by the sixties TV way if filming or so ha ha. But at least it's something. The music spirit of Rory and Taste is still there.
I love Rory Gallaher. One of the best blues rock musicians ever. I just found out of his band Taste, and I love this. Thank you soooooo much. Too bad the people tapping this were tripping and not focusing on the band.
They did play blister on the moon on the radio in USA and I remember it but didn’t know the band and thats all I heard of him until youtube 7 yr or so ago.
Rory was a genius. My favourite is Laundromat. When they asked Jimmy Hendrix how it felt to be the greatest guitarist in the world,he said "Don't ask me, ask Rory Gallagher
This is as heavy as the earth Black Sabbath, thanks to the bass and drums no doubt but it's amazing to hear Rory Gallagher using so much distortion... Especially in 1969...On a strat with the stock pickups... I know that back then there already were powerful amps on the market and fuzz pedals and a few boost pedals...But nevertheless his sound is powerful...
Legendary Vox AC30 amp with Treble Boost. Classic sound back then. Brian May always used AC30's with Queen years later. Very powerful band live, I saw them quite a few times in '68 - 69.
Rory linked a Dallas Range master tone booster into his AC30 ( he showed and explained this to a young Brian May ) . Tony Iommi also used the same device with his Laney amplifiers .
@@kevinhodgson8508 It's true that a Vox AC30 can sound really mean especially with that added pedal... But of course it wouldn't be much without Rory Gallagher's strat plugged in it...
does anyone knows what bass/kick drum size did John Wilson played? it looks smallish, like a 20" maybe? and the fact that he's very jazz oriented makes sense with a bop kit... goin' in the wrong direction from other rock drummers of the same era
Gas. Could this have been Gallagher's first time on TV? I remember hearing an interview when he knocked the live Taste albums that came out after the band broke up, something to do with the choice of tracks. The two songs here were the 1st Rory ever released, as a single with the previous Taste band. The band's best moments to me were Rory's songs, not Catfish/Sugar Mama covers, which were terrible as songs. Yet Rory & drummer Wilson, on seperate ocacsions, labelled them the fan favourites.
WTF??? Camera guy f’s up the chance to film one of the greatest guitarists of all time cause he thinks he’s a filmmaker. Instead memorializes himself as a complete loser.

I completely agree. I was lucky enough to see Taste 4 times in small venues and each show was brilliant.
They were Cream support band at the Albert Hall in 1968
@@colincarroll7954 along with YES
It was actually the Isle of Wight festival
@@jacobtobias9255 My favorite is Montreaux 1970
Would have been even better if the cameraman had actually focused on Rory and the band!!!!!

@@davekenyon3978 Another instance where the director places him or herself above the music.

I checked your saying about Dave Davies : I don't agree! Sorry😀
Just like zz top
I think he looks a bit like Clint Eastwood!
Yeah, probably just you.
I think the camera guy was lost at the start of this……..
It is french and from the 70's... what did you expect? Hehe

Rory Playing Arpeggios in the first song cool he was way ahead of the time
You should check out those early fusion band, way complicated than Rory .
@@BuchuanZheng But are they as cool as Rory? Don't think so!!
His Strat still had quite a bit of finish left in 1969

RORY IS THE GREATEST EVER: ABSOLUTELY WAY AHEAD OF HIS TIME. I MISS HIM SOOOO MUCH..... RORY RULES!!! 🎸💚👑💞🍀
According to
Jimi Hendrix,
Rory was the greatest.
Irish Cream.
Seen in Rouen this year for the first time
J'aimais quand il jouer avec cette équipe de musiciens. 💐💐💐💐🙋💐💐💐🦉
This is so français: haute couture, cordon bleu, and self absorbed camera work.
😅We can also think they wanted to give the studio and the film a kind of "swinging London" mood ! Ludicrous!
Les Français just don't get it.
Mais oui !!! Hahaha

I realize its tv and 1969; but how restrained they are.
The music said it all no need for theatrics with Rory...

And just as we thought it couldn't get any better they exploded with On the boards, Great days..🏴

Was the camera team on LSD?
The whole show is LSD. No need to pop one.
Well it was the 60s
Criminal camera work. At least the sound people knew how to do their jobs properly.
Were the people on TV nowadays driven by an obsession to do something different?
This is an Irish band on French TV. Don't think it has to meet your American standarads of what constitutes proper "sound and vision".
