As RAW as it gets. Watching Rory rip, it really looks like he’s having an inner argument with his strat, and it doesn’t feel like toning down at all. Pure magic.
This number no words for the lead guiter, just remember we all love famous musicians, the best thing to do is when they are gone is to pray whatever religion you are that they are happy on the other side love there music but pray for them. That they would love. We are all only human. ❤
The Strat had a little more paint on it back then. Seriously! I have seen hundreds of performers and I will always believe Rory was the most intense live musician I have ever seen. He was like a meteor!

That Rangemaster box…such an incredible tool in his hands. Gives him the ability to make all his single-note lines sound like they’ve got pinch harmonics going on. Such a fat, whistling, wailing sound to play with. Long love RG!
If you're interested. There is a video on Beat Club with Rory Gallagher player an acoustic. He is one of the more underrated guitarists to come out of the era, but certainly respected.
I first saw Rory and Taste back in the seventies at the Montreux Festival, I came there to see Deep Purple and Black Sabbath who were performing on the same night. I didn't know Taste at the time, I was stunned to see how three men could sound better and play better and be more soulful than the other guys. RIP Rory.
I never tire of listening to Rory play. If I had 10% of his talent, I would be a happy man and my neighbours wouldn't have to bang on the wall so much.
Those pinched harmonics at 7:20 blow me away. One of Rory’s tricks that he was happy to share after a show (June 1974 at University of Nottingham) I recall.
With out doubt one of the best live bands (Taste) you could have seen, all three were top musicians but Rory was on a different planet,at 68 I still find there sound something special .The sound of Taste and Rory will live on,R I P Rory.

Was in my local record store circa 71/72 the guy behind the counter was playing Rory's live in Europe album in its entirety, after listening to it, just had to buy it!, Shortly after, he came to my town, with his beat up amp & his beat up guitar, proceeded to tear the house down! Have been a lifelong fan ever since, very humble guy, what you saw, was what you got.
I would have to say that this is Rory Gallagher's best performance period! I can not take my eyes off him. If I had of been there, I would have been getting as close as I could get to the stage. Its a shame they broke up. Rory as a solo artist was amazing but when he was with Taste, phenomenal! Love him to bits!!
I dont think any other guitar player is as fluid as Gallagher. The way he plays using such concentrated technique and feeling while grooving his whole body is just so inspiring.
This is ultimately the most incendiary and transcendent performance one could ever hope to see (and Rory was known to have given plenty of those, of which I saw a few). It's electrifying in every sense of the word and makes your god damn hairs stand on end! No one really came close to what Taste did at the Isle of Wight, not then, not later. And to think this was their last gig. What a legacy!
John Wilson - what an incredible drummer! The break-up of Taste was a calamity formented by a deceitful record company. John Wilson realised this later in life. It’s both futile and yet tempting to speculate on the heights Taste could have attained.
In only the last few days have I come to realize how exceptional Rory was. I'm now addicted to Rory! He's now inspiring me to pick up my guitar to try to be 1% as good as he is. An awesome performance here (though I can't imagine him ever giving a bad performance!).
I think Rory would have performed for free, as long as he did, and longer, just so he lived a comfortable life. He really loved bringing his music to the fans and he fed off of how they enjoyed it! Nobody loved entertain the fans like him, he was practically dead near the end of it all but was still up there for his fans despite how painful it must have been, other musicians do it for the fans too, but not with the heart he did! RIP

Raw, pure heart & soul........... He fleetingly, with little effort, rose far above the hype, the theatrics, the politics, the pop culture, and the industry jackals..... to be one of the few, genuinely magnificent white bluesmen of the era. Kind, quiet, humble, but ruthlessly competent in delivering a scorching fireball of intense blues through your skull; every single night. He was a cherished part of our lives that transcended all the bullshit and ballyhoo that many tried to force down our throats. He was a giant of our youth that continues to carry on into our old age. God Bless you Rory; you gave us so much. We Love You
+ whiskey river - very finde words, i hear you... :-) i like that you don´t speak of rejecting ALL music after him and disqualify it as minor or no quality, like so many others do... i´m 60 and since about three years on a revisiting trip, which i started to show my daughter (15) some of the musical heroes of my youth - my absolute faves were the who with crazy keith moon on drums, and rory was the hero of our first band - we had a brilliant guitarist who played a cover of "laundromat", and who also introduced the delta blues men to us (for instance)... what shocked me when i read the comments to my old music, was the extreme scournful chauvinism of the people of my age and older towards modern pop music, embarrassing and disgusting! i´m fairly fed up with that, and i feel ashamed of my generation... :-( i´m a musician myself and i have developed a lot in all those years, i´m very open minded and have an extremely wide spread taste in music, old and new, raw or smooth, sophisticated, punky, wild, or simply pathetic, folky, ambientish, digitalized to the limit or whatever - i´m always curious, so i´ve also been investigating new stuff galore - there are still many, many musicians who keep working on "transcendenting the bullshit" (oh lord, i know, i´m one), but they don´t necessarily play the blues - especially the really young ones with their humble little home recorded lofi hiphop (mainly short melancholic instrumental pieces) are very decent in their comments - they exchange experiences, talk about their problems of growing up, their anxieties, very peaceful and tolerant... while the members of "the love generation" act like grumpy, stubborn, intolerant dullheads, tied with cobwebbs from their long white beards to their comfy chairs (haha, i actually saw some of them like that before my inner eye), see what i mean? of course i´m generalizing, but this is the feeling, the bitter taste that is left from my excursion.... :-( three very different gems i found lately, i hope you like them either? ua-cam.com/video/3hGSqqhhokE/v-deo.html ua-cam.com/video/o5zb0WTSLsY/v-deo.html ua-cam.com/video/cG8dCuMibdI/v-deo.html so once more, thank you for just praising rory gallagher and giving him the respect he absolutely deserves, without scourning to the other side - much appreciated... :-) love and greetings from germany btw. i think i still have a cassette with a recording of our first live appearance in 1973 or 74, which i remember well, because my drum solo was mentioned in the local newspaper, haha - to be honest: it was a copy of parts of the drum solo on the grand funk railroad live double LP (which i later gave away for the who "live at leeds" album and never regretted that!)
@@friesiamans1966 We have alot in common. Many musicians and seniors are not open minded at all but prefer to argue and insult each other about supposed conversations from 50 years ago that are likely no more than urban legend. A generalization that does irk me is alot of musicians and fans of Rory, Gary Moore, Clapton, SRV etc have never listened to Hoodoo Man Blues or Live At The Regal. Where do they think this stuff came from? Ireland or Wales? I don't get it.....Even Clapton said that when he was younger, if you didn't know who Robert Johnson was ....He wouldn't talk to you. BTW.... that was a good trade for Live At Leeds.
@@jeffdelaney8934 hey, i´m very delighted about your reply, thank you so much - i tend to write wordy i know, but i don´t get much response - just the other day a neighbour was here, about 70 years old, and he kept talking about dave clark five and the searchers like it was all happening today, hah? it´s crazy, so many people seem to live on their attic in a museum of dusty relics of yesteryear - and when someone comes in and tells them about the sunshine and the fresh green grass outside, and the birds that are singing, they say: you don´t know what REAL life is, that´s here on the attic........ oh boy, i´m glad i´m still young enough in my mind to understand and like at least some of the modern music... btw. it WAS a good trade, haha... :-) cheers my friend

Yeah, let me expand on this a little more. Most guitarist at this time were using a Wah wah or Univibe, or Fuzz face, or Overdrive, or Delay. using a treble booster on a clean channel on any amp just boost the signal a little and cuts the bass ( low end ) Rory was still pretty dry considering it's a Live show, any guitarist knows if your playing live and you have very little in the effects chain, you better not F-up...
@@bulzah Not really I've got a 1963 AC30 similar to the one in this vid and you really need a boost. It doesn't have to be a treble boost any boost will do as long as it goes in the 'Normal' channel tp push it into overdrive. Without a boost they can be a bit too mellow sounding.

As RAW as it gets. Watching Rory rip, it really looks like he’s having an inner argument with his strat, and it doesn’t feel like toning down at all. Pure magic.
Saw Rory live early eighties in the SFX. Unforgettable.
Great explanation!! He was making love to it too.
🥰@@KittyGrizGriz
This number no words for the lead guiter, just remember we all love famous musicians, the best thing to do is when they are gone is to pray whatever religion you are that they are happy on the other side love there music but pray for them.
That they would love. We are all only human. ❤
The Strat had a little more paint on it back then. Seriously! I have seen hundreds of performers and I will always believe Rory was the most intense live musician I have ever seen. He was like a meteor!
What a band , incredible playing by all , so underrated , Rory Richard and John on fire 🔥

Rory Gallagher ..No Frills. No B.S....A man who refused to toe the line and lived for the music and the fans..a true legend and an absolutely incredible guitarist ..R.I.P.
One more in the forgotten book ❤
That might just be the most Strat sounding Strat I've ever heard!
Lol perhaps.. indeed.. most straty..😊
That Strat has a story.
That straty strat has a Rory story
Well Said
YOU'D BE RIGHT
Rory!
Gentleman, humble genius who paid his dues and then some!
The drummer is incredible too!!
Never was aware of this guy, and missed his best stuff… thanks
Legend. Rory WAS the 70s. Never before, never since. A man on a mission. He was only 22yrs old here!!!!! Anyone who saw him live was hooked for life.... Miss ya Rory..
Saw Rory twice in the ‘70’s as a teen; he opened on a Nazareth tour with Slade as support in Los Angeles! He was brilliant! Poor Nazareth had follow Rory night after night! He also played on ZZ Top’s first US tour with Johnny Winter and brother Edgar! What a blues show that was in SoCal! Rory is my life long favorite guitarist!
The people who gave this a thumbs down must have been looking for Justin Bieber videos
People who dislike are dead inside !
@@miti314 they are impotent for sure .. can't handle real stuff .
Or they did it not because of the music but because of the idiots who recorded the vid and think that guitars are played by nose.
Justin didn’t have strings on his guitar, maybe he does now?? Lol
No... just tuned up guitar with full harmonics. Not fucking treble boost broom out of tune.
I Love Rory Gallagher and would have been in heaven to be in the crowd here…great band whew!! ⭐️⭐️⭐️
He had such a straightforward guitar tone that was just amazing. Little gimmicks just pure raw soul, passion and talent.
Green with envy.
Just one of the most naturally talented of all time. It was in his blood.
To be at the front and centre, to sing and play with control and freedom of expression. He is a rare talent.
The last performance of Taste... I was there and it was brilliant..
Their last performance was in Belfast according to wiki
I was at this gig too.I was 29 years old and I still listen to Gallagher and Taste all the time.Absolutely Fucking Awesome guitar player.
Joe Bonamassa today doesn’t come remotely close and he’s considered a Superstar.I seen Slash a few weeks ago and the same thing, imitators and charlatans some say.Wankers I say. There will never be a player like Rory Gallagher and I’m happy to say,I dont know how many times I saw that Bastard play.
An undeniable Legend
Andy T In fairness to Joe B, yes, he’s considered a superstar, but he is the first to say that Rory was the master and that he owes a lot to Rory for inspiration...
Andy T Davey Knowles isn’t too bad......
Tell me more...
I have seen Rory 2 times in Cologne „Sporthalle“ (doesn‘t exist anymore!!) Unforgetable athmosphere, soooo intense!!!!! What a musician and what a guy!!!!!
Oh 🤩!! You were so lucky!! I’m Jelly!
Just discovered him 3 yrs ago (live in the US). I missed out but loving these vids. Phenomenal talent who loved his fans…plus he’s pretty hunky 😅

@@DavisSchulz All good mate, so many great guitarists out there, and so many are sadly underrated, but regardless we the fans no better.!!!
That Rangemaster box…such an incredible tool in his hands. Gives him the ability to make all his single-note lines sound like they’ve got pinch harmonics going on. Such a fat, whistling, wailing sound to play with. Long love RG!
thank youRory for the great music and the great times ,always missed… legendary Irish musician.☘️🎼🎼👏👏
Geez, how have I never heard of this band until now? The guitarist's playing is totally over the top!
I don't know what's going on with UA-cam's algorithm today but I'm liking it.
You've now heard him, that's what matters. Enjoy the music!
If you're interested. There is a video on Beat Club with Rory Gallagher player an acoustic. He is one of the more underrated guitarists to come out of the era, but certainly respected.
Check out Rory’s live “Do you read me” - Rock goes to college it’s amazing

A Strat, a treble booster, and a Vox AC30 and a whole lotta soul.
I first saw Rory and Taste back in the seventies at the Montreux Festival, I came there to see Deep Purple and Black Sabbath who were performing on the same night. I didn't know Taste at the time, I was stunned to see how three men could sound better and play better and be more soulful than the other guys. RIP Rory.
Rory was even better than Deep Purple and Sabbath? Holy sh*t he must have really been something else
Rory was already at the peak of his playing in 1970 . What a talent !
Cannot and will not get better then Rory
I never tire of listening to Rory play. If I had 10% of his talent, I would be a happy man and my neighbours wouldn't have to bang on the wall so much.
Those pinched harmonics at 7:20 blow me away. One of Rory’s tricks that he was happy to share after a show (June 1974 at University of Nottingham) I recall.
Allez Rory , fait péter ta guitare et encore et encore,je suis un super fan ,je ne pas m'en passeeeee. 🎸🎸🎸👏
The great Rory Gallagher. Taste were a brilliant band.
Thanks for this.
😊😎🎸🇬🇧🇺🇦
What a talent!What a feeling!He don't play guitar, the guitar played him! 🎸💜
With out doubt one of the best live bands (Taste) you could have seen, all three were top musicians but Rory was on a different planet,at 68 I still find there sound something special .The sound of Taste and Rory will live on,R I P Rory.
Can people that don't like Rory Gallagher stop commenting on how much he sucks! Why are you watching this video he you think he sucks. People on here are huge fans of him and enjoy these videos, we don't want jerks on here bringing us down.

There will always be idiots on the internet. Enjoy the music. 🎶
Yeah Rory and his band were immense. All you haters should stop being jealous or fuck off
Hai perfettamente ragione !
Spätestens nach diesem Auftritt im Alter von 22 Jahren !!! hätte JEDER erkennen müssen : Rory ist nicht zu stoppen. Er war in meiner Jugend so prägend.....und ist es heute IMMER noch...mehr denn je.... ! BEST RIP RORY
It's always a better day when you hear Rory play. Great guy and a sad loss.
He makes that Strat scream in pain
Wonderful performer
I was there, second time to see him, he blew us all away, 7 encores!!!
A major talent. Back in the day few of us in the USA even heard of Rory.
Had this on vinyl when I was 13, taste live LP. Knew every note. First tune I ever downloaded from iTunes. Still play it regularly. True genius.
Look, listen - you don't need a floorboard full of pedals to sound great, just talent.
I'm telling folks I lived in the time when guitar gods roamed the earth. Beastly!
Well said my man.
Don't play a musical instrument or follow modern players?
A little bass when younger. Homme, Gary Clark Jr, Morello, Cantrell not ancient but all 35+ are favorites
That drummer is unreal. Brilliant.
Would have given old Mitch Mitchell a run for his money.
J P it’s all about style , John had way cooler jazzy beats and brought a different element to the songs , rod probably fit rory in general better tho
A little bit Mitch Mitchell alike...:))
John Wilson - what an incredible drummer! The break-up of Taste was a calamity formented by a deceitful record company. John Wilson realised this later in life. It’s both futile and yet tempting to speculate on the heights Taste could have attained.
I saw him in Shea Stadium New York City. With Robin Trower and Jethro Tull. The Tullivision tour. Rory was awesome live!!!
Saw the same tour in San Diego! 😀
In only the last few days have I come to realize how exceptional Rory was. I'm now addicted to Rory! He's now inspiring me to pick up my guitar to try to be 1% as good as he is. An awesome performance here (though I can't imagine him ever giving a bad performance!).
Nothing but THE Rory.
I'm just very glad that someone was able to capture Rory on film while he was in his prime, and before he left us.
lt's hard to believe this is over 50 years old!
We be getting better not older like a fine wine.
RIP
The level of chills I'm getting from this is over the roof
This is fucking beautiful
This is all I will ever need from a drum kit
You know, latel, I've BEEN listening a lot to this here, one Irish guy name of, Rory Gallagher, and I've listened to him a bunch of the time, particularly, in the ’70's .Well, these days, having lost all my reb 1:40 records, cassette s(you young ones go dig up one grandies& ask 'd
No matter how many clips and bands and guitarists i see on youtube, i always come back to Rory. With all respect to other bands and guitarists, he is the best. No doubt.
Rory is the best blues guitarist ever. So underrated.
Not so much underrated as not widely known...anyone who heard him rated him highly.
If you listen really closely you can hear in the solos (which there are many of) just exactly how perfect the ideas were.Rory was exceptional
A Strat, a Treble Booster and Rory = Paradise ❤❤❤❤❤❤
Fantastic. Band listening to each other and reacting. Magic. Saw Rory a few times back in the day, always brilliant. Grabbed the head of that Strat at a Birmingham Union gig once. For a brief, glorious moment Rory and I locked eyes. I gazed adoringly at the master. I’m pretty sure he was thinking, “let go of my guitar you twat”. What a man!
And this was before the Iconic Irish tour '74 album, BEST ever!!
There have been many talented guitarists through the years, but none better than Rory Gallagher.
Is not a competition
You know what he was best at? Being Rory Gallagher. I love that about him.
I respectfully disagree, Allman bro’s in their prime 69-71. Music they played was awesome. Very different but awesome. Rory is more raw, and very under-rated and over looked. Too bad for those that do not listen to his awesome talent
Much like Roy Buchanan very over looked and under-rated
None?
i like that you don´t speak of rejecting ALL music after him and disqualify it as minor or no quality, like so many others do...
i´m 60 and since about three years on a revisiting trip, which i started to show my daughter (15) some of the musical heroes of my youth - my absolute faves were the who with crazy keith moon on drums, and rory was the hero of our first band - we had a brilliant guitarist who played a cover of "laundromat", and who also introduced the delta blues men to us (for instance)...
what shocked me when i read the comments to my old music, was the extreme scournful chauvinism of the people of my age and older towards modern pop music, embarrassing and disgusting! i´m fairly fed up with that, and i feel ashamed of my generation... :-(
i´m a musician myself and i have developed a lot in all those years, i´m very open minded and have an extremely wide spread taste in music, old and new, raw or smooth, sophisticated, punky, wild, or simply pathetic, folky, ambientish, digitalized to the limit or whatever - i´m always curious, so i´ve also been investigating new stuff galore - there are still many, many musicians who keep working on "transcendenting the bullshit" (oh lord, i know, i´m one), but they don´t necessarily play the blues - especially the really young ones with their humble little home recorded lofi hiphop (mainly short melancholic instrumental pieces) are very decent in their comments - they exchange experiences, talk about their problems of growing up, their anxieties, very peaceful and tolerant... while the members of "the love generation" act like grumpy, stubborn, intolerant dullheads, tied with cobwebbs from their long white beards to their comfy chairs (haha, i actually saw some of them like that before my inner eye), see what i mean? of course i´m generalizing, but this is the feeling, the bitter taste that is left from my excursion.... :-(
three very different gems i found lately, i hope you like them either?

so once more, thank you for just praising rory gallagher and giving him the respect he absolutely deserves, without scourning to the other side - much appreciated... :-)
love and greetings from germany
btw. i think i still have a cassette with a recording of our first live appearance in 1973 or 74, which i remember well, because my drum solo was mentioned in the local newspaper, haha - to be honest: it was a copy of parts of the drum solo on the grand funk railroad live double LP (which i later gave away for the who "live at leeds" album and never regretted that!)
@@friesiamans1966 We have alot in common. Many musicians and seniors are not open minded at all but prefer to argue and insult each other about supposed conversations from 50 years ago that are likely no more than urban legend. Or the model of Rory's treble booster.
cheers my friend

You've fired flaming arrows of truth into
the essence of The Great Rory Gallagher!
I thank you sir!
@@friesiamans1966 Humble, very humble.
You know, latel, I've BEEN listening a lot to this here, one Irish guy name of, Rory Gallagher, and I've listened to him a bunch of the time, particularly, in the ’70's .Well, these days, having lost all my reb 1:40 records, cassette s(you young ones go dig up one grandies& ask 'em what cassettes areーーmaybe on a Ouijaboards),and all CDs, i've been on my not-too-smart-phones(I must've dropped it one too many times, it' working not hardly at all. So, anyway, lately, everyti me iput on ol' Rory, I find myself, going, " Man, that's the best I've ever heard him play." Everytime. and I mean, EVERYTIME. So, here's tune called, "Sugar Mama" It's the best I've ever heard him play.
The unforgotten and still beloved 'IRISH WIZZARD' at his very best.
He's playing through a dry amp and playing with clarity and intensity that most couldn't do with multiple effects...
From the Taste era till the mid 1970s Rory used a Dallas Rangemaster Treble Booster with his Vox AC30 and Fender Tweed amps.
ua-cam.com/video/2xG4mnm0bBQ/v-deo.html
Yeah, let me expand on this a little more. Most guitarist at this time were using a Wah wah or Univibe, or Fuzz face, or Overdrive, or Delay. using a treble booster on a clean channel on any amp just boost the signal a little and cuts the bass ( low end ) Rory was still pretty dry considering it's a Live show, any guitarist knows if your playing live and you have very little in the effects chain, you better not F-up...
@@manf9593 yep, in fact treble booster make it in even more harder to play.
