No, you must do all of the work in the video unfortunately
No it’s a whole different touch screen and APIM module on the back. I did it in my F150 and it was so worth it for CarPlay.

My son has a 2016 Fusion. The Bluetooth on the Sync system stopped working. Ford said it was the APIM. He has the smaller screen with the mess of buttons. Would changing the head unit help him? Also would be be able to change to the larger screen head unit? Lastly, i was told you have to program the unit to the car. Is that true. Thanks for any info you can give. Thanks for the video as well.
Your info is accurate. You can replace the smaller screen with the sync unit, but it will require a full reprogram. It may be better in your case to use an aftermarket radio instead of the ford parts in your case

Through the radio. You must mirror the programming from the old APIM EXACTLY
Hey, I have the sync 2 on my Ford Fusion 2013, but the touchscreen does not work. Should I upgrade to a Sync 3 or get an aftermarket android stereo? I rather keep it original for the bumper sensors around it.
Sync 3 for sure. It integrates to the rest of the car. You will lose MANY of the features of the car if you go aftermarket.
@@TheGaginator you can still get those functions to work but it requires you to buy an addon that adds those functions such as idatalink to a custom head unit. Friend of mine did that removing his sync 3 head unit from his 2019 cause he wanted a customer head unit and speaker system. when you do the custom route it can become very expensive around 1200 to 1500 not including speakers and amps

I have a 2016 Ford Fusion SE with Sync 2. I’m considering upgrading to the Phoenix Automotive Tesla style 13.6” radio/screen. My question is, in this video, why did you need to add another GPS module on top of the factory GPS module that was already there?

I used a wireless adapter for mine. Either wired or wireless OBD adapters work fine
do you really need to place the gps deep behind the wheel like that ? cant you just tuck it slightly in that direction ?
Yes, other places in the dash have too much metal above them, and will impeded GPS signal

I bought a 8 inch to upgrade my 4inch sync 2 but would I just need a converter cable and a regular programmer bc it came with the usb and front panel but not the cable

So on my 2015 fusion it has the heating and cooling seats integrated into the screen. Will that be an issue??

I absolutely want to do this to my 2015 explorer. But I'm scared of taking all that apart. My "infotainment center" navigation no longer works. I keep getting an error message "SD card fault" and it just crashes every minute or so. So damn frustrating.
At least yours still works somewhat. My wife would only get a black screen. No ability to use radio, heated seats, or any other features!

Do I need to disconnect batter before installing? And on an unreasonable note my ford fusion is only getting like 340 miles on a full tank it’s a 2016 SE with 80,000 miles idk if that’s just how much it holds but it feels off and if it is weird is there any fix I can do to get more miles? (Ps still averaging 31 mpg freeway and like 20 ish on street)
Yes always a good idea to disconnect the battery when doing electrical. 31mpg is pretty good. My plug in Fusion gets 45 mpg only because of the battery getting us 12 miles free each day on a charge
@@TheGaginator I get average 44.5 mpg easy and I mostly drive in city... let's say 70-30% city/highway. Mine is not plug-in hybrid either, just a normal hybrid
So irritating that Ford doesn't offer this upgrade! Their stock price just fell off a cliff, this is one area where they could make a ton of extra cash. They could send out emails to all the people who bought their cars years ago and offer upgrades to the crappy Sync 2 system, grrrr.

Can you just swap the APIM?
You can swap sync 2 to sync 2, but you cannot upgrade only the APIM

To be honest I do not remember.
Really want to do this but I’m afraid my heated seats won’t work, or any of my climate controls, since they’re all in the screen.
If you have any issues, you can always get it reflashed by the dealer for $100, or flash it yourself with Forscan software and a laptop!

And i have a question about the native functions, on the driver board in the right display, with sync 2 we have the GPS information ( actual street or if is on navigation, the next route step ) that function stills works after the sync 3 upgrade? Im from Argentina and i have a 2016 ford mondeo ( same as fusion but with other name for the local market )

Hello there, I have a ford s-max 2016 (Europe). sync 2. does the one you show fit the S-max? Also missing digital speedometer, does it work if I change to sync 3. Or is the digital speedometer a separate unit and do I have to/can I change it to the later version which for the s-max 2017 who has digital speedometer
So my questions:
* Do I have to change both, i.e. touch and speedometer
Does the switch you did get automatic speedometer?
*Can I even do this swap on a ford s-max?

The only thing I know for sure is, If your vehicle has sync 2, it can for sure take sync 3. The gauges wont make a difference.
I know its much later, but digital speedo is the firmware on the Gauge Cluster screen, Sync 3 will not add it, nor (as far as I am aware) is it possible. At least not without somehow replacing that Gauge cluster screen firmware.

Feel like this is a lot of work for not a whole lot gained... Don't really understand why people want sync 3 so bad.

It is a massive improvement really. Especially when your sync 2 dies and only have a black screen! haha. That was my reason for the "upgrade" My wife could not access her radio, climate control, etc.
