I have to replace a Sync 3 APIM with out Navigation that I bricked with a newer Sync 3 APIM with Navigation. I have watched lots of videos about this process and by far this is the best I have seen. Every other video I would pause and go back thinking "What did they just do". I now have no doubt I can do the upgrade with out breaking any plastic tabs off or ruining any connectors. Great video this is exactly what I’ve been looking for, I just bought a 15 ford edge sel it comes with sync 2 and I’ve been wanting to upgrade to sync 3 for apple car play. I have a couple questions, is this just a sync 3 head unit that you swapped ? Also I wanted to know if all of your original functions still work properly like climate control reverse camera etc.
It’s the head unit with the touch screen attached, along with the navigation antenna, and USB cable and socket adapter. It all comes with the kit, but you need to use the side mounting brackets from the old stereo. You send in your VIN number and they will program it in advance for your car. The backup camera works, steering wheel controls work, and if you have climate control on your current unit this one will work also. Go to simplymichigan.com (I believe) and check out what they offer. There’s another place on the web but it’s twice as expensive, and then there are the overseas knockoffs that are cheaper, but this was a US seller that had very good reviews and a good warranty so I went with them. So far it boots up really fast and it works awesome. The unit without Navigation is about $100 cheaper. I hope this helps.
My apologies for the late response. It is the head unit that includes the screen. All functions are maintained and more including climate control and steering wheel controls. Good luck and enjoy your new stereo! You’re gonna really enjoy sync 3.
I believe so. Most of the fords use the same stereo configuration. If you want to, check out crutchfield.com and they will list your car’s compatibility. Shop around for the best price then install it yourself and save money.
I have an issue with my sync 3. I've tried to update to newer version and and it was more than 3 hours updating ..i had to go ,because it was more time than expected and i unplug the USB before finishing.On the next day the screen was okay.. showing that Update Successefully installed ,then turned off and never turned on...The USB is not working anymore..i tried to remove the fuse 67 ,,power button with >>,the + from the battery,nothing works...The radio works,,i just cannot change the stations,Wi-FI works as well,during the night the screen is not completle black there is a light behind... Obviously there was an issue installing properly..my question is it possible to update from computer somehow ,if USB is not working.... or what how to solve this issue?
I don’t believe that I can help you with your updating issues, because I have never tried it. Reach out to Crutchfield.com and ask if they can offer any help.
It wasn’t cheap but well worth it. I think that it was around $700.00. They are pretty good about knowing what will work for just about any vehicle.

Does it work just with apple car play or Android too?
This unit works with both Apple CarPlay and Android OS systems. Our family uses both.
The stereo works excellent with both. My son uses both interchangeably.
