- Grand Prix racing at its best! At the last competition day we finally had Bora wind, which is perfect to fly ridges in the Livno area. It was a very exciting race and at the end I was high enough to win the race. Special thanks to Aeroclub Livno for hosting this perfectly organised event! I will come back flying in this wonderful landscape again, that´s for sure ;-)

After watching Sailplanes videos and wondering "What if"... Yesterday, September 18th, 2019, I joined a soaring club ant took my first flying lesson with the Tampa Bay Soaring Society. Thanks so much for sharing. Your videos has been an inspiration for me!!! Greetings from Florida, USA.
yes! I am so happy for you. Thanks for sharing your experience in such an elegant and delightful way.
I’m currently learning how to glide at London gliding club, Dunstable (UK). I’m only 13 and dream of one day flying national competitions like you!!
Yeah kid.. nobody watched this events
@@DaBeezKneez watch football, we will fly...
Wish you all the best. 👍👍
when are you starting a youtube channel? ;-)
It does not matter how old you are. Sound like you have rich parents that got you into the hobby. Good for you!
World best championship ever. Best of luck.❤
Wow! Platz, Hammer-Speed!
Vielen Dank!!
Beautiful!!! I have been flying Radio Control Sailplanes since 1977 and in the late 80's while stationed at Sembach AB, Germany I was able to fly in a full scale Grob Twin Astir at a local club field and WOW what a sweet ride...
Congratulations on a great win!
Espectacular, vídeo. 👌
Superb video, what a task! incredible view and flying! Congrats on winning!
Thank you ✌🏼
Like a real life video game! Always stay up😁.
Awesome 👏STEFAN congratulations!
Thank you 👌🏼
Fantastic video and great flying Stefan, well done 👍
Thank you a bunch 👍🏼
Vielen Dank, freut mich!
Great cuts. God job!
👍 👍 👍 Gratulation Stefan!
Wow that’s awesome low ridge flying with other gliders 👍
@2:22 Modesty will get you everywhere in life!!
12:00 Congratulations Stefan, on your Epic Win!
Congrats !!
Well done Stefan and thanks a lot for the videos 😉
Thank you, more to come 😉
Gratulation 👍🏻
Gratulation! Bin beim Zusehen ins Schwitzen gekommen. Großes Kompliment!
Danke, freut mich!
Congratulations! Amazing footage. I would have loved to have seen the full video with some commentary to show how choices and styles of flying and glider advantages/disadvantages work in the race. I was always waiting to see if you could overtake or get overtaken and what choices would lead to that but the video would always cut at that point. .Also to get an overview. Thankyou for your uploads. More please.
fantastic show
Congrats Stefan smooth landing
Sehr schönes Video und Gratulation.
Congratulations on the first place in the race and fourth place overall.
Thank you 👍🏼
Would've been fun to sit on one of those ridges and see you fly by low and fast. :)
Oh, yes!
Congrats!
Thermals hopping was pretty nice.
*AND IT'S LIGHTS OUT!!AND AWAY WE TAKE OFF!!!!*
Herzlichen Glückwunsch zum ersten Platz!
Dankeschön!
Congratulations! You did very well in this competition. Well done! Now to see you beat Sebastian Kawa.
As a glider pilot (who doesn't race--yet), I much prefer to watch the SGP format of racing. Much more exciting and fun to watch.
It is also much more fun to fly 😉
Thank you!
Thank you for not adding music +1
Seconded.
Formula 1 of the sky is fast jets. This is sailing, the best kind!👌
I noticed that your favourite soundtrack for many films is "Angel Dust" AGST :)
Good job
I love flying, i fly hang gliders, but flying a sail plane would be the best, I watch you fly and so easy on the controls, it's incredible.
Thanks Steph, really incredible flight ! And performance between gliders seems so close and made this compétition crazy, congratulations!! Did you fly with tour asg29?
It really is beautiful isn't it!
Beautiful! What is it you are controlling with your left hand?
Sehr schön! Grüße vom Farrenberg
YEAH!!! #1 Great Overall Standing
Thank.you.I.like.it
Congratulation Stefan...
Hi Stefan, sehr cooles Video! VG
Sehr schön!
Danke Leo!
How fast were you cruising along that ridge?
well done stefan you remind me of helmut richman its the best compliment i can give you seamus
Thank you!!
Would you be able to make an emergency "crash" landing with a glider on a calm lake? If there was only woodlands around😥. And no other way to touch down, safely? Or would your glider wings break, on impact and force your cockpit/plane cabin to nosedive or tumble?
Hi, why the Transponder is off ?
Ich. Bin. Verliebt. In. Dein. Flugzeug.
Gliding is more of an endurance race than F1 don't you think ;D.
This type of competition is more like F1. The task is relatively short with about 200 km and about 1:40 hours. It's proper racing on the ridge and every second is impotant...
@@SteFly
Well i still think that the term endurance race would perfectly describe it. Racing on the edge with minimum energy usage is what one would describe as the 24h of Le Mans race (these races usually not only account for efficient use of fuel but also for car reliability and for car performance).
@@mandernachluca3774 in germany we call you Erbsenzähler

this looks fun! where is this?
Awesome....congrats!!. Are you modifying flap angle with your left hand?
Thank you!! Yes, that's for the flaps
@@SteFly it is such a blessing to be able to fly like you do. I am a hang glider pilot for over 25 years (I am 52 now but still flying) I always dreamed about a glider like yours but never happened. Now we are sad as government in Mexico is taking away all opportunity heading to socialism-comunism fearing for the worst
more like the tour de frace of the sky
👍
The second place was Klaus Kalmbach, right?
Hi! Nice video! For what do you put water into wings?
Hi! It improves the glide ratio at higher speeds, especially when the lifts are strong. We had a max. allowed wingloading of 50 kg/m², so 525 kg takeoff weight with my glider.
Stefan Langer thanks Stefan!! I’m new in this “world”, but I’m working in Airbus 😂 Hi from Hannover!!! 👋
Hi, as an aviation enthusiast I understand the basics of what is happening but curious to know what the left hand is controlling? Is it some form of flap /air brake to slow ground speed during ascent /uodrafts? Probably wrong, just curious
Its a lever to open airbrakes. I only use when landing, at least for now while I'm learning the basics.
I suspect you are incorrect. Many of the high performance sailplanes employ flaps to give optimum L/D ratio dependent upon airspeed. The airbrake would only normally be used for landing or to assist with descent. Flaps are to optimise glide performance and this is why the pilot is constantly altering their position subject to airspeed
@@ybliga Guys, on flapped gliders there is an optimum speed setting with the flaps so as to reduce the induced drag of the wing profile. The faster you fly the more lift and induced drag and so by using negative flaps you reduce the lift but also the drag therefore increasing speed.
How to gliders stay vertical when the velocity is finished after landing? Do they lean on one of the wings? If so doesn't it damage that wing?
Hakan Inan they just rest on a wing and no they don’t get damaged
How much cost glider?
is this glider yours?
Who has right of way when you are flying in such close formation?
Yes, it would be great to see a video on what the rules are. Which glider has to give priority. What penalties exist.
Whats the longest you could fly one direction on a ridge there?
The "good" ridge is about 50 km long, but it is also possible to fly longer distance only with wind.
Beautiful flight. What is the left hand lever for?
Thank you
Air brake
Thanks I used to fly radio control gliders and it is such a pleasant feel .
@@eduardodemariaycampos2396
I can imagine, I have one of those rc gliders too, but I've never flown it
@@federalbureauofinvestigati9494 The small handles he was using all flight are the flaps, the large sliding handle during landing only is the air brake - normally long vertical panels that rise on the upper wing surface to disrupt airflow and stop the glider from flying.
They should have a heli or something filming the whole event from above.
It looks more like World Enduro Championship, then like Formula 1 ))) But its great anyway ))
please answer, are you opening lessons to make a plane? And if there is a tuition fee for making a plane with you?
Congrats, but where's your bucket hat?
Hi Stephane I have a dream to get my own plane soo can you gave me an advice what should I buy first
Small one
How much the price of this plane i want to buy this plane.
Fantastic. I like to do it. Where this place? I from Brazil
Angelo Antonio Rebelo my home town, Livno, Bosnia and Herzegowina
Do they have engine?
13 of the 15 gliders in this race had engines, but only to avoid outlandings. The complete race was flown without engines 😉
you have any videos with a full take off, no edits please.
Which liquid he's putting in the wing?
Water
Location? Great video
Livno, Bosnia 😉
Whh r they filled witg with water?
TheLiasas more weight, lets you fly faster
@@Alex-dr6sv tyvm for the answer. Now looking at that terribad spelling of mine im actually x2 glad you did answer lol
When do you come to France to fly with me?
Usan combustible🤔🤔🤔?
early
What was he pouring in the tail? At 0:15 and also at 0:22
Water
@@pr1ce213 for? ballast? drinking?
@@psycopirla1 Ballast. Or more specifically trim weight to fine tune center of gravity. The main ballast tanks in the wings are in front of the CoG (for structural reasons), so filling them makes the glider nose heavy. To compensate for this, weight in the tail is used. But then dumping only the main ballast would make the glider tail-heavy, which is a dangerous configuration, so the tail ballast must be dumped as well, hence the use of water rather than fixed weights.

Why fast forward. What's the point. I understand its your video.
How much for a planes ?
My sailplane costs about 100.000 € and it´s one of the less expensive ones in this race ;)
You can get used ones for a lot less though. The Standard Libelle is a beautiful plane from the 70ies which will put you back ~€12-15k (can be more depending on accessories). You get an awful lot of bang for your buck there. Until not too recently Stefan was posting videos in a Libelle but I think he sold it to upgrade to an ASG-29 (which is a top performing glider as you could see).
Haha NO F1 to see here folks
Hi brother good video I make the video with some parts of you videos if you give permission yes or no ok .
