- Meet Gustav Salminen - the world champion in advanced glider aerobatics 2017! It was a pleasure working with Gustav on this film. He is a great talent and truly know how to fly a glider with total control. We will hear more from him in the future so remember this name - Gustav Salminen.
Music by Jon Luc Hefferman (freemusicarchives). - Наука та технологія
I went to high school with Gustav. have not heard anything from him in years. Then all of a sudden this shows up in my recommendations? Crazy. I know he used to fly planes, or at least his dad did. Used to see their little runway and hangar almost every day. Can't believe his a fucking World champion. Damn dude. That's sick
:-D
Cool man. Did you guys ever meet again.
The pilot has a complete understanding of the machine he is flying. Awesome pilot; beautiful demo.
Thank you!
@@gusalmiak Hi Gustav, can you told me what are max +/- G´s you have in Fox with your aerobatics style?
Looks so peaceful and graceful. But I know it feels like the Gs are trying to push your stomach out of your ear holes.
Aerobatics on the glider is one of the most impressive things. Thank you for the video. Good luck in competitions!
You all prolly dont care but does any of you know of a way to get back into an Instagram account?
I stupidly forgot my account password. I love any tricks you can give me
@Gatlin Huxley instablaster =)
Now this is falling, with style.
Outstanding! Awesome flying management in the elements!!!!!! Managing energy, lift, and situational awareness!!!!! Excellent!
Thank you!
Many congratulations, well done, and thank you for the beautifully produced video!
Every year I tell myself I wil begin to learn flying a glider, but this year I am determined to start indeed, and so is my son (14 years). Flying a glider is pure aerodynamics, and aerobatics is completely magic !!
Pure skill - this is immense!
Gorgeous maneuvers ! Best of luck and keep safe.
This is really cool, also the production quality of the video is awesome!
man ... that sure was inspirational , amazing stalls at 1:25 .. amazing everything really thankyou , im a student , and learning ....marvelous upload ,, cheers from Vancouver Canada
What fabulous footage, flying and production. If this doesn't inspire flying aspirations nothing will. Thank you for putting this together - it's a pleasure to watch such quality on all counts. Cheers from Sydney, Australia - Dave (used to fly powered, may have to consider un-powered now!)
Thanks my friend :) Cheers!
When I was 14 (50 years ago, learning to fly at Harris Hill in USA) we were taught that sailplanes couldn’t do that (outside loops) because the wings wouldn’t handle the stress. Very impressive. Well done, all around!
@@randomguyinanglider The latter part is not necessarily true. For example, aerobatics are not allowed with any LS gliders. They're also not allowed with most Schemp-Hirth gliders.
Awesome man and with my favorite glider sickkkk!
An inspiring story. Breathtaking imagery. Cinematography is of the highest quality. The music is enthralling and the execution of the aerobatics is exhilarating, not to mention their sheer perfection.
Mario John Thank you Mario :) i was suprised how many stupid comments this video got. Im glad you are not one of them. Some people has severe braindamage :) Thanks for you nice comment!
You're very welcome, Jesper. I suppose when we visit UA-cam there will always be that small army of hateful individuals making stupid comments. I think this video is one of the best I've seen on the subject matter.
P.S. Great channel!
Philo Kvetch could not have said it better myself
Jesper Rådegård Hi jesper,
My dream since I was a kid was to be a Pilot, so i did, but i never got to see this part of flying that much, and it seems you have introduced to me a small opening into another world of flying so thank you!
This is so beautiful
Learning how to master energy and stalls on a plane without any sort of thrust is the peak of flight knowledge
Amazing, really great skills.
3:15 - I love those tumbles. The big wings of the glider magnify their effect.
Beautiful!
Thanks!
Fantastic !
What a flier. Fabulous stuff.
Wow I didn't know acrobatic gliders even existed.
crimsontiger6 aerobatics*
Most gliders are rated for basic aerobatics. Cant be said for your typical small powered aircraft.
you're young :))
Fox, solofox, szd acro, swift - all aerobatic gliders from Poland. Speciality.
Thats usa for u, brain dead.
Just beautiful
So beautiful!!!!
That looks hella fun! It was a nice video too.
Fantastisk godt gået Jesper! Mange hilsner fra en dansk broder! Jeg håber du får et godt nytår og at dine drømme om et ny fly bliver opfyldt i 2018!
Wow... fantastic!
Aerobatics in it's purest form!
Just magnificent!!!!!!!
what camera did you use for the onboard shots
Gopro4
Oh that was him in the Paris Air show of this year?
I couldn't hear his name, it started after the propelled aircrafts and jets show, I was wandering around and chatting with US crews because I thought it was over - like countless others - when I saw a silent bird with its red smokes in the air. Absolutely amazing, very graceful. I didn't knew aerobatic gliders existed before that.
Hello, no it wasn't me on Paris Air Show, it was Nicolas Honnons of France :)
Wow. I bet that tail slide is amazing in the silence of a glider.
You're a very good aerobatic pilot!!
breath taking 🤙🤙🤙🤙 no words...
Superb!
Impresionantes maniobras...yo pude acompañar a un instructor en NEUQUÉN Argentina en un vuelo acrobático y la sensación es realmente hermosa. El instructor era mí abuelo. Héctor Lorenzo Macarrón. Salusos
Awesome!
Que belleza!
I’ve flown a glider a few times and I have no idea how you do that
Amazing Fox glidder
man this makes me want to get back into gliding, been grounded for 3 years
would be cool to have a glider with jet propulsion. You know, self take off then land at point b.
Awesome Thank You =)
Super Jesper min vän. Helproffsig produktion.
Tack Tommy! Ja det var kul jobba med Gustav. Supertalang! :)
Då ska vi inte tala om dig Jesper... :D
Yeah, but does it have an ejection seat in case the engine fails?
Very cool
awesome
The fact that this guy gets in the glider with a personal parachute is badass.
Magnificent! Is he blind? Really incredible that he can pilot the glider being blind !! I admire him!
Someday I would love to take a ride in a glider.
wargor don’t just take a ride, join a club, go solo, best decision I ever made.
Take a ride - I did . . . .now here I am 450 flights later . . .
All fun and games until they drop you as ballast.
Pretty cool 😎👍
Nice video, thanks! Since gliders are crazy about reducing drag, I wonder why they didn't put the canopy hinges on the inside 0:25, or make the landing wheel retract in flight 1:04?
it is because the fox is optimized purely for aerobatics. If they intended for it to also be for cross-country they would have but in aerobatics absolutely perfect aerodynamics are not the biggest concern.
Bravo molto bello!!!!!
Do those stalls put alot of stress on the airframe?
Absolutely amazing. To ascend to an an altitude glider needs propulsion assistance. After reaching certain altitude the upward movement while looping is astonishing. Just a question is it possible to commute from one location to another by glider after its airborne ?
You use thermals, they are rising columns of warm air, so you can get higher and fly further. If there's enough thermals, a glider could theoretically fly forever.
good job
Awesome! I've subbed to your channel, as I am really looking forward to you getting your "Swift" glider! Though now at 56 years old I don't think I'll ever get my private lic., I can still dream and fly my fleet of RC's ..A 600n heli, 180 electric, a carbon Z 150 Cessna, and a few others, I just recieved a 250 sized race quad that is so fast, ..but maybe someday, I can build and fly my own ultra light! If I do, I'll be sure to record and send to you! God be with you, and as always, Happy Landings!
We have people as flight students which are way over 50, beter late than never :)
@@randomguyinanglider4090 sadly, now just passing the 60 mile stone, and spine issues more than i have fingers on one hand, the best id hope for is to build my own ultralight with float's! just down the street from me is a private lake i belong to the association that owns it, perfect for flying from and landing on! being a fine furniture crafter for near 50 years, yes a portion with my dad, teaching the basics and further as a grew older! im sure I can build my own and it be strong, right and tight, as well most importantly, airworthiness! thanks for the reply and info, as well as your kind words of encouragement!
That was impressive. I prefer seeing that over jets
Cool!
I want it so much!
This fuselage with the U-2 wings
What a life!
I would like to buy a Fox, but I'm much too tall. Such is life. I have only done some aerobatics in an old heavy aluminum glider, It was wonderful.
Such is life? Oh c'mon! It's a problem when you are to poor to fly at all like me :D
jacekmak87 I think that if you are smart with your priorities, and disciplined with your money, this is achievable. Multiplying your take home salary by 10 years, and you should be able to afford a used Fox, even after basic expenses. If you aren't able to find employment at a level befitting your age group, then I agree, it might be impossible. First, you must really want it. Most people prioritize having a spouse first.
For me, 2 inches would have to be removed from my legs, and 2 inches removed from my spine, and that is too great a cost.
Admittedly I've only flown standard trainer gliders, nothing with a high rating, but surely there must be other acrobatic gliders out there? I've seen 3 different models just from this vid and two with Luca Bertossio
Two seat, known to be too small:

Grob G103c Twin III Acro with structural repairs?
Sick
(hopefully!!) I will be taking glider lessons at 16 very soon! There is a gliding club not to far, any tips?
I hope you pursued this path! Its very fun.
For me, the biggest hurdle wasn't learning to fly, it was getting overt the pants-sh*tting terror of "Will this flight be my last? Why do I do this?"
Funnily enough, I only had those thoughts when I WASN'T flying. The way I got over that was by just going to the club once a week and flying, and then it happened.
One day, when the tow plane started up its engine, my stomach didn't drop and my heart didn't leap into my throat. I was calm, and knew that yes in fact, I CAN do this. I can fly, and the glider is mine to command.
Even if you're not flying, hanging around the glider club if you can is awesome. You learn so much. If you are interested, trying out a flight sim with a stick and pedals does help your "sight picture" on the off days or off season (but a flight sim is never a replacement for actual gliding). I recommend Condor 2 or XPlane 11 (on Steam).
Good luck!
A Viking in an Aircraft 👍🏻
What is the smoke generator you are using? Wire pull smoke grenades?
First of all this is a fabulous video: great cinematography and editing! Then two questions: 1) which video editing program do you use (and why)? 2) Which platform do you operate on (Mac or Windows)?
sey1yes2 Thanks! Adobe premiere pro cc on PC. It works great!
Damn bro you are f*****g crazy. RESPECT !!!!!
Thanks!
More people showing this Guy's modesty would make the World a better place! BTW, that slippery Fox must accelerate like crazy after being stalled nose straight up......do you have telemetry? Thanks for the upload :)
Mike Holt Thanks my friend.
"hey check out this guy's modesty"
Awesome. Apart from competitions do you have any plans to perform in airshows?
Thanks! Yes, I have some airshows booked for 2018 and recently bought a powered Pitts S2C that I will use for airshows and competitions aswell.
It's MDM-1 Fox, designed and manufactured in Poland : www.marganski.pl
Wow!🥇
Will it ds?
Wow!
Have you flown a JS1?
4:30 is that a pitot tube?
I was surprised to see that you are using a glider with fixed undercarriage. Doesn't the extra drag matter so much for aerobatics?
Super! I used to fly the fox! BEST PLANE ever built!!!! Where in Sweden is your club?
nice polish made glider beside swift
My dream
Clear sky, No cumulus for thermals...where is your lift coming from to do such a display?
Getting towed pretty high and use no thermal at all.
話には聞いたことあったけど、へえ~いいなぁ
what is the make of this glider please. I am not sure my life long dream of flying a glider will ever be fulfilled in India. At least i can see the videos :)
The model is a ''Fox'' made in Poland. Marganski & Myslowski MDM-1 ''Fox''
very Beautiful
Thanks! :)
Spoken like a true stoic.
what whas the music name???
Jonathan Julbe Thank you! Music from freemusicarchive. By Jon Luc Heffermaan. Free to use and thats why i use it. No copyrightroblems.
If you have the skills and training is there an attitude the pilot or the glider cannot recover from and therefore would avoid it and never put him/herself in that situation?
Jes it depends on what plane your flying and what position youre in aswell as how much energy you have left
The world's safest aircraft with no boundaries on maneuver ability.
I didn't even know that glider aerobatics was a thing
Superman
MDM - 1 Fox is great glider. Made in Poland.
'
very good skill flyer pilot fly the plane...
look alike U-2 plane...
can use 2 small support wheels with 2 servos on the long end wing same as B-52
Thank you!
I think the weight would be the smallest problem, but the drag would be a huuuuuge loss of performance.
What do you do to make a living Gustav?
Aircraft mechanic most of the time :)
whats dest music please ?
Music by Jon Luc Hefferman (freemusicarchives).
which song is it if i may ask ? amazing video though
Real
